Virginia loved life and was an avid bird watcher and gardener. Preceded in death by husband Harry J. Ratcliff and brother John Bixler. Virginia is survived by her daughters, Pamela (John) O'Brien and Sandra (James M.) Barrett, both of Grove City; granddaughters, Jennifer and Emilee Barrett; life long friend, Patricia Wiseman. Visitation will be Sunday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 2697 Columbus St., Grove City, where the funeral will be Monday 10 a.m. Pastor Ken Kirk officiating. Interment Grandview Cemetery in Chillicothe. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to American Heart Association, P.O. Box 182039, Department #013, Columbus, Oh. 43218-2039.

REED Robert C. Reed, age 63, of Sunbury, Oh., April 4, 2001. Employed by the Village of Sunbury where he was former two-term Mayor and Village Council member. Survived by wife, Martha; daughters, Renee Dobson of Delaware and Michelle Johnston of Columbus; grandchildren, Adam Polt of the residence, Nickolas Johnston and Alle Reed; sisters, Mary Nelson and Linda Balis; brothers, Robert Reed, Douglas Catron, Richard Reed and Clyde Catron; several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by mother Frances Catron, brothers Leroy and William Reed and Donald Nolan. Special thanks to the Palliative Care Unit at St. Ann's Hospital. Friends may call at the MORELAND FUNERAL HOME, 55 E. Schrock Road, Westerville, Friday 5-8 p.m., where service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m., Pastor Larry Griffin officiating. Private interment. ROGERS Mildred E. Rogers, age 91, died April 6, 2001 at Columbus Alzheimer's Care Center. Retired bookkeeper at Burgess and Niple. Member of Boulevard Presbyterian Church. Survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Jay Schoedinger, Sandy and Dick Snide; grandchildren, Laurie and Gardiner Porter of Denver, Colo., Randy and Marcy Schoedinger, Scott and Lisa Schoedinger; great-grandchildren, Julia and Austin Porter, Vella Schoedinger. Funeral service Sunday April 8, 2001, 6 p.m. at SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 6699 N. High St., Worthington. Minister Rev. James Sledge officiating. ROSE Audrey Louise Rose, age 58, Wednesday, April 5, 2001 at St. Ann's Hospital. Affiliated with Infinity Mortgage. Preceded in death by mother Helen Courtney Bailey. Survived by husband, Bernard Rose; sons, Bernard (Elizabeth) Rose and Jason Aaron Rose; grandchild, Rachel E. Rose; brothers, Richard (Sue) Bailey and David Bailey; sisters, Verlena Bailey and Arlena (Gary) Winters; father, Lynn Bailey; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dean (Sharon) Rose, Noah (Linda) Rose and Floy (Janet) Rose; father-in-law, Noah Rose; 5 nieces; 2 nephews. RUFF Alice "Rose" Ruff, 90, a lifetime resident of Lancaster and Fairfield County, passed away Thursday April 5, 2001 at Crestview Manor Nursing Home. Her parents were Webster and Clara Deeds of Sugar Grove. She was a life-long member of Emanuel Lutheran Church and a member of its Ladies Aid Society. A member of Olivedale Senior Citizens and a member of the former Farm Bureau Council #17. She is survived by daughters, Lillian Miller of Lancaster and Marjorie (Bill) Rowland of Vinton, Oh.; son, George E. (Cookie) Ruff of Upper Arlington; 6 grandchildren, Jeff (Marianne) Miller, Diana (Tim) Horn, Greg (Adele) Ruff, Jayna (David) D'Herete and Justin and Joshua Roland; 6 great-grandchildren, Griffin and Grant Ruff, Nathan Horn, Ava Rose D'Herete, Autumn Miller and Thunder Shahan; sister, Mildred Cochenour; sisters-in-law, Hulda Kull and Lola Deeds; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Herbert H. Ruff, son-in-law David C. "Sam" Miller, sisters Esther Starner and Helen Darling, brothers Frank, Elmer and Paul Deeds. Funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Monday at Emanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Mark R. Raddatz officiating. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery. SHILLING Ira Dean Shilling, 53, of Columbus, Ohio went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, April 3, 2001 at 7:59 p.m. in her residence. She was born June 14, 1947 in Soperton, Ga., the daughter of Robert Lee and Clora Mae (McDougald) Thompkins. She was an avid bowler. She is survived by her mother, Clora Thompkins; her husband of 26 years, Kenneth E. Shilling; two daughters, Mitzi Cain (Herbert Cornett) and Kendra Shilling, both of Columbus; one son, Shane (LaTricia) Thompkins of Columbus; 5 sisters, Maurine Brinson of Columbus, Cynthya Kull of Delaware, Oh., Cora McClendon of Columbus, Ramona King of Dublin, Ga. and Renna Moton of Soperton, Ga.; one brother, Ronald (Debbie) Thompkins of Columbus, Oh.; 2 grandchildren, Britney Suel and Ja'Quon Thompkins, both of Columbus; mother-in-law, Aletha Shilling of Columbus; sisters-in-law, Carolyn (Charles) Wolfe, Denise Shilling (William Wilson), all of Columbus; brothers-in-law, Floyd (Gwen) Shilling, Dennis (Barbara) Shilling, Gary Shilling, all of Columbus, and Terry (Precy) Shilling of Trenton, Oh.; and a host of other relatives and friends. Friends may visit Saturday, April 7, 2001 in Victory Deliverance Church of Christ, 1718 Myrtle Ave., Columbus after 3 p.m. with her family present from 6 p.m. until the time of service at 7 p.m. with Minister Floyd Shilling officiating. In accordance with her request her body will be cremated following the service. The final tribute is a service of the PORTER-QUALLS FUNERAL HOME, Springfield Chapel, 823 S. Yellow Springs St., Springfield, Oh.

SMITH Vera B. Smith, age 88, a former longtime resident of Upper Arlington, died Friday, April 6, 2001 at Riverside Methodist Hospital after an extended illness. She was preceded in death by her husband Howard D. Smith, Sr. in 1995. Vera is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Susie Smith of Powell, Oh., Howard and Patricia Smith of Columbus, Oh.; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Jim Bodard of Columbia, Mo.; grandchildren, Lisa Cox, Janie (Alan) Ehret and Sunday Smith; great-grandchildren, Jessica Cox, Derek Cox and Anna Marie Ehret. Funeral service will be held 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2001 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Rd., where the family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Tuesday. Rev. G.A. Haubrich will officiate. A private interment will be held at a later date for the family at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

SOUTHARD (SHANER) Kathryn Marie (Shaner) Southard, age 49, ended her fight with cancer on April 6, 2001 at the Kobacker House. She is a graudate of Bishop Watterson High Shcool and attended The Ohio State University. Last November she completed 25 years of service at OSU and was employed by the Fisher College of Business for the last 20 years. Preceded in death by spouse Breck A. Southard and father-in-law Ollie E. Southard, M.D. Survived by daughters, Shannon Honora and Tara Caitlin; father and mother, Robert J. and Mary Ann Shaner; sisters, Margaret Shaner, M. Suzanne (William) Childs, all of Columbus and Theresa (Mark) Yeagle of Berthoud, Colo.; mother-in-law, Marian Southard of Charlotte, N.C.; brothers-in-law, Ollie Edward Jr. (Sherri) of Charlotte, N.C., James Blair (Roey) of Mountain Lakes, N.J., Curtis Alan (Barbara) of Louisville, Ky., Richard Neil, M.D. (Suzanne) of Dallas, Tex. Also survived by nieces and nephews, Hannah Childs, Anna, Alex and Abby Yeagle, Julie, Jesse, Carrie, Sarah, Erik, Axel and Liv Southard. She is also survived by many close and dear aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Friends and family may call on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at the EGAN-RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 403 E. Broad St. Prayer service 4 p.m. Memorial Mass of Resurrection Monday at 10 a.m. at Holy Name Church, 154 E. Patterson Ave. Msgr. James Ruef, Celebrant. TACKETT Laura Mae Tackett, 53, of West  Jefferson, died Thursday, April 5, 2001 at Doctors Hospital West. She was a member of Springfork Baptist Church. Preceded in death by her parents, sister and infant daughter Carla. Laura is survived by her husband, Jimmie; daughter, Jodie (Tony) Hutcheison; son, Jamie Tackett; step-daughter, Nita Kaye Baldridge; 4 grandchildren; brothers, Paul "Buck" (Ethel) Chaffin and David (Rhonda) Chaffin; and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the SCHOEDINGER NORRIS CHAPEL, 3920 Broadway, Grove City, where the funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, April 9, 2001. Interment at Pleasant Cemetery.

TORTORELLO Jeanne M. Tortorello, age 68, died April 4, 2001 at the Forum Health Care Center after a prolonged illness. Preceded in death by husband Joseph Tortorello, Longtime and active member of St. Timothy Parish. 25 years of nursing at Mt. Carmel West. Devoted mother and wife. Survived by daughters, Anne Tortorello (Kirk Wall), Donna Tortorello, Lynn Tortorello, all of Columbus; sons, Paul (Rebeccah) Tortorello, St. Louis, Joseph (Lindsey) Tortorello, Chicago and Timothy Tortorello, Columbus; grandchildren, Michael J., Jacqueline, Donald, Colleen, Mathew, Joseph and Michael P.; 3 sisters; 2 brothers; and many nieces and nephews. WARNER Charles W. "Bill" Warner, age 65, of Baltimore, Thursday, April 5, 2001 at his residence. Born April 5, 1936 in Pekin, Ill. to the late George W. and Thelma M. Warner. Graduate of Bradley University. Retired accountant from Hygeia Dairy Co. and had previously been with Borden Dairy Division for 34 years. Survived by his wife of 40 years, Patricia; daughters, Robin (Kerry) Goodyear, Reynoldsburg, Kimberly (Mark) Walden, Columbus; grandchildren, Joshua, Jeffrey and Joel Goodyear, Amanda Walden; brother, George W. "Tim" (Roseann) Warner, Morton, Ill.; nieces and nephews. Private service and interment will be in Pekin, Ill. Friends who wish may contribute to the American Cancer Society in Bill's memory. WEAVER Robert E. Weaver, age 83, of Upper Arlington, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001 at Kobacker House. Mr. Weaver was a retired Cataloger at Defense Supply Agency, and was also a builder. He served as a Technical Sergeant in the U.S. Army, 4th Infantry Div., during WW II and received the Purple Heart for wounds he suffered at the Battle of Normandy. He was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Disabled American Veterans, and American Legion Southway Post #144. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Betty L. "Lou" Weaver; son, Jeff Weaver; sister, Grace Johnson; brothers, Edgar F., Arlie E. (Jane), Warren O. (Bea), Neil O. and Gene (Lois) Weaver; sister-in-law, Maridel Weaver; many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his brother Walton O. Weaver. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, April 9, 2001 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road. WRIGHT Luther T. Wright, age 86, Thursday, April 5, 2001 at Grant Medical Center. He retired from Conrail after 40 years of service. He attended Hosack Street Baptist Church. A U.S. Army Veteran of WW II. Preceded in death by his parents, 5 sisters and 5 brothers. Survived by his loving and devoted wife, Rhea Brown Wright; Godson, John G. Jackson; sisters-in-law, Delores Jackson, Constance Brown, Geneva Logan, Lyle Brown and step-mother, Anna Brown, all of London, W.Va.; favorite niece, Ruby Campbell of Roanoke, Va.; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral 8 p.m. Tuesday April 10, 2001 at the Chapel of C.D. WHITE & SON FUNERAL HOME, 1217 Mt. Vernon Ave. Rev. Robert Goff, Officiant. He is survived by his wife, Joyce; daughters, Angela and Patricia; son, Patrick III; and 5 step-children; 3 brothers; and 5 sisters; 4 grandchildren. Survived by daughters, Debra (Tony) Loschiavo of Canal Winchester, and Kathleen (Mark) Waldrop of Reynoldsburg; brothers, Junior Evans, and Donald (Dorothy) Evans, all of Columbus; sister, Norma Wilson of Worthington; 5 granddaughters, Kelly Cordle, Shelly Mann, Teresa Osborne, Angela Hunter, and Sheena Mickey; 1 great grandson, Ryan Cordle.
