RATCLIFF Virginia L. Ratcliff, age 71, of Columbus, passed away Thursday, April 5, 2001 at her home. She was a member of Grove City United Methodist Church. Virginia loved life and was an avid bird watcher and gardener. Preceded in death by husband Harry J. Ratcliff and brother John Bixler. Virginia is survived by her daughters, Pamela (John) O'Brien and Sandra (James M.) Barrett, both of Grove City; granddaughters, Jennifer and Emilee Barrett; life long friend, Patricia Wiseman. Visitation will be Sunday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 2697 Columbus St., Grove City, where the funeral will be Monday 10 a.m. Pastor Ken Kirk officiating. Interment Grandview Cemetery in Chillicothe. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to American Heart Association, P.O. Box 182039, Department #013, Columbus, Oh. 43218-2039.

ROGERS Mildred E. Rogers, age 91, died April 6, 2001 at Columbus Alzheimer's Care Center. Retired bookkeeper at Burgess and Niple. Member of Boulevard Presbyterian Church. Survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Jay Schoedinger, Sandy and Dick Snide; grandchildren, Laurie and Gardiner Porter of Denver, Colo., Randy and Marcy Schoedinger, Scott and Lisa Schoedinger; great-grandchildren, Julia and Austin Porter, Vella Schoedinger. Funeral service Sunday April 8, 2001, 6 p.m. at SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 6699 N. High St., Worthington. Minister Rev. James Sledge officiating. Family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service. Interment Kingwood Memorial Park.

ROSS Frank T. Ross Sr., age 62, of Columbus. Died Thursday, April 7, 2001 at his residence. Mr. Ross had retired from D.S.C.C., graduate of Fairmont Senior High, Fairmont State College and was a member of T.B.I Fraternity. He is survived by son, Frank T. Ross Jr., Sacramento, Calif.; daughter, Dawn (Jeff) Pucci, Pacifica, Calif.; brother, James (Laurie) Ross, Colorado Springs, Colo.; nephews, Daniel, David, Nicholas and James (Lynette) Ross and family; niece Jennifer (Marc) Sisler and family; and other nieces and nephews in Springfield, Oh; and numerous cousins. A special thanks to all who were helpful during his time of need. Mr. Ross awaits his special friends. Friends may call 5-9 p.m. Sunday, at SCHOEDINGER EAST CHAPEL, 5360 E. RUNYON William O. Runyon, 75, died Saturday, April 7, 2001 in Dr.'s Hospital North. Preceded in death by wife Katherine (1995). Retired property underwriter for AAA, and W4 Warrant Officer for the Army Reserves after 42 years. Member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church and the church choir. Survived by sons, Bob O. (Margene) Runyon and Tom (Dodi) Runyon, Canal Winchester; 4 grandchildren, Tommy, Phillip, Julia and Creighton Runyon; and 1 great granddaughter, Alexis. SHORTRIDGE Maria Elizabeth Shortridge, age 67, of Columbus. Died Saturday, April 07, 2001 at O.S.U. Hospital East. Preceded in death by her husband Franklin D. Shortridge. Survived by children, Franklin D. Shortridge Jr.; Giovanna Marie (Roger) Armentrout; Raymond James (Joyce) Shortridge; Ida Mae Shortridge; Oscar Daniel (Lisa) Shortridge; 23 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Joseph Pepe; sister Concetta Graziano and numerous other relatives and friends. SMITH Mark E. Smith, age 39 of Sarasota, Fla., died unexpectedly Thursday, April 5, 2001 in Sarasota. Formerly of Columbus, Ohio and Detroit, Michigan. Owner and Franchisee of several Domino's Pizza stores in the Sarasota and Naples, Florida area. Former manager and area supervisor of Domino's Pizza in Columbus and Detroit. Former president of the Domino's Franchisee & Owners Association. A 1980 graduate of Westerville North High School and attended the University of Dayton. Mark is survived by his former wife, Denise Smith of Sarasota; son, Mark Jr., and daughter, Brianna; father, Charles Smith of Columbus; sisters, Gabrielle Tammer of Columbus, Virginia (David) Huffman of Upper Arlington, Ann Margaret Heiser of Louisville, Ky.; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Jeannine and Joseph Zing of Tampa; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. SMITH Ruby I. (nee Eveson) Smith, age 88, of Huber Heights, passed away Thursday, April 5, 2001. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Everett on July 28, 1965; her daughter Edna in 1997; her son Everett Smith Jr. (Smitty); sister Flory Foster; and her brother Thomas Eveson. Ruby was born on August 4, 1912 in Windsor Ontario, Canada. She married Everett R. Smith on March 9, 1931 in Bowling Green, Ohio. Ruby was a lifetime member of the North Dayton Democratic Club. Ruby is survived by her daughter, Betty Bishop & husband Dan of Bryan, Ohio, 8 grandchildren, Denny on Huber Heights, Jerry & wife Nelia of San Diego, Ca., Craig Bishop & wife Cheryl, Pam Shuck & husband Dan, Dina Culler & husband Mike, all of Bryan, Oh, Chris Smith of Dayton, Stephanie Smith of Kettering, Chad Smith of Dayton; great-grandchildren, Missy and Dennis, both of Grove City, Oh., Mark, Jamin, Hannah, and Michael, all of of Ca., James, Colin, Sarah, Salli, Nick, Bernie, Sean and Sammy, all of Bryan, Oh., and Elizabeth of Oregon, Steve, Michael and Kristin; great-great granchildren, Brandon, Christopher, Justin, Derrick, and Gregory, all of Columbus, Oh.; special nephew, Morris Foster of Windsor Ontario. SMITH Vera B. Smith, age 88, a former longtime resident of Upper Arlington, died Friday, April 6, 2001 at Riverside Methodist Hospital after an extended illness. She was preceded in death by her husband Howard D. Smith, Sr. in 1995. Vera is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Susie Smith of Powell, Oh., Howard and Patricia Smith of Columbus, Oh.; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Jim Bodard of Columbia, Mo.; grandchildren, Lisa Cox, Janie (Alan) Ehret and Sunday Smith; great-grandchildren, Jessica Cox, Derek Cox and Anna Marie Ehret. Funeral service will be held 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2001 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Rd., where the family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Tuesday. Rev. G.A. Haubrich will officiate. A private interment will be held at a later date for the family at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

SOUTHARD (SHANER) Kathryn Marie (Shaner) Southard, age 49, ended her fight with cancer on April 6, 2001 at the Kobacker House. She is a graudate of Bishop Watterson High Shcool and attended The Ohio State University. Last November she completed 25 years of service at OSU and was employed by the Fisher College of Business for the last 20 years. Preceded in death by spouse Breck A. Southard and father-in-law Ollie E. Southard, M.D. Survived by daughters, Shannon Honora and Tara Caitlin; father and mother, Robert J. and Mary Ann Shaner; sisters, Margaret Shaner, M. Suzanne (William) Childs, all of Columbus and Theresa (Mark) Yeagle of Berthoud, Colo.; mother-in-law, Marian Southard of Charlotte, N.C.; brothers-in-law, Ollie Edward Jr. (Sherri) of Charlotte, N.C., James Blair (Roey) of Mountain Lakes, N.J., Curtis Alan (Barbara) of Louisville, Ky., Richard Neil, M.D. (Suzanne) of Dallas, Tex. Also survived by nieces and nephews, Hannah Childs, Anna, Alex and Abby Yeagle, Julie, Jesse, Carrie, Sarah, Erik, Axel and Liv Southard. She is also survived by many close and dear aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Friends and family may call on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at the EGAN-RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 403 E. STEELE Vincent Jerome Steele, 48, Friday, April 6, 2001 at Doctors North Hospital. He is preceded in death by his father Albert Steele, Sr. and sister Nettie Mae Steele. He is survived by his mother, Lemmie Ruth Jordon; daughter, Keisha Lige; favorite brother, Albert (Val) Steele, Jr; siblings, Cecelia Steele, Dorinda Jordan, Reginald (Deborah) Steele; second mother, Esther Bridges; aunt, Gladys Jordan; uncle, Thomas Hall; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends. Mr. Steele was a lifetime member of Greater Jordon's Temple. Thompson James L. "J.T." Thompson, age 61, of Reynoldsburg, passed away Friday, April 6, 2001 at Mt. Carmel East. He was retired from Bob Boyd Lincoln Mercury and an associate member of the Whitehall VFW. Jim was very well loved by friends and family and will be greatly missed. OSU Buckeye garage parties won't be the same without him. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert C. Thompson. TROTT Frank A. Trott, age 68, of Lake Worth, Fla., formerly of Columbus, Oh., passed away on April 4, 2001. Mr. Trott was a member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, West Palm Beach, where he served as an usher at the 8:45 a.m. Sunday Mass. He was a member of Southeast Florida Square Dance Association and Gold Coast Camping Dancers, Chapter 080. He is survived by his wife, Ada Steinberger; four daughters, Chris (Jim) Hatem, McArthur, Oh., Terry (Kevin) Lamb, West Palm Beach, Fla., Kathy (Rick) Myer, West Palm Beach, Fla., Jane Fike, Kannapolis, NC; two stepdaughters, Celeste (Norman) Platte, Palm Springs, Fla., Arlette Steinberger, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; stepson, Donald Steinberger, Miami, Fla.; 12 grandchildren, Jill, Mike and Matt of Ohio, Kelly, John and Mark of West Palm Beach, Fla., Stephanie, Tom, Nancy and Jessica of West Palm Beach, Fla., Jacque and Brandon of North Carolina; two step-granddaughters, Nicole and Tasha of Palm Springs, Fla.; four great-grandchildren, Katlyn, Kyle, Hunter and Araea; three step-great-grandchildren, Caitlin, Hayle and Jonathon. Van HOOSE Dr. John Van Hoose, age 57, died April 5, 2001, Cone Hospital, Greensboro, N.C. A native of Columbus, Oh., Dr. Van Hoose was born June 14, 1943 to Claude Joseph and Josephine Leahy Van Hoose. He graduated from St. Charles Prep School and The Ohio State University. Received his docorate from Indiana University. Dr. Van Hoose joined the faculty at the School of Education at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro in 1983 after serving on the faculty of University of South Carolina for 8 years. He served a term as President of the North Carolina Middle School Association and received that organizations' Ken McEwin Award for distinguished service. Dr. Van Hoose achieved the rank of Lt. Col. in the Army Reserves. He is survived by wife, Dale Marie Albert; son, Matthew Van Hoose; daughter, Sarah (Matthew) Banko; grandson, Joseph P. Banko; brother, Daniel D. Van Hoose; sister, Mary Margaret Gerlach. Preceded in death by brother Martin Van Hoose. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Monday April 9, 2001, St. Paul the Apostle Church, 2715 Horse Pen Rd., North Carolina. WEAVER Robert E. Weaver, age 83, of Upper Arlington, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001 at Kobacker House. Mr. Weaver was a retired Cataloger at Defense Supply Agency, and was also a builder. He served as a Technical Sergeant in the U.S. Army, 4th Infantry Div., during WW II and received the Purple Heart for wounds he suffered at the Battle of Normandy. He was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Disabled American Veterans, and American Legion Southway Post #144. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Betty L. "Lou" Weaver; son, Jeff Weaver; sister, Grace Johnson; brothers, Edgar F., Arlie E. (Jane), Warren O. (Bea), Neil O. and Gene (Lois) Weaver; sister-in-law, Maridel Weaver; many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his brother Walton O. Weaver. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, April 9, 2001 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road. Private inurnment Union Cemetery.
