STARLING Armeda Starling, age 81, passed away on April 6, 2001 while vacationing in Mesa, Az. Armeda was born in Beaverdam, Ohio on June 30, 1919. She was raised in Delphos, Ohio and graduated from Bowling Green State University. Armeda was an elementary school teacher who loved each and every one of her students. She taught for thirty-five years, including twenty years at Indian Run Elementary School in Dublin City Schools. She was a member of the Northwest United Methodist Church, Dublin Women's Club, Dublin Arts Council, Ohio and Franklin County, Ohio Retired Teachers Association and Delta Kappa Gamma. She was married to John T. Starling on January 27, 1951 and they enjoyed celebrating their golden anniversary in January. Armeda is predeceased by her parents Clark and Goldie Van Meter and her brother Dale Van Meter. In addition to her husband, John, she is survived by her sons, David and Steven Starling; her daughter, and son-in-law, Susie and Jeff Gafford; her beloved grandsons, A.J. and Jordan Gafford; her sister-in-law, Wanda Van Meter; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Rodney and Janet Starling and Byron and Betty Russell; loved ones, Thelma and Armeda Sawmiller and a host of nephews, nieces and wonderful friends. The Starling family would like to thank, Corrine Wires and Della Linson for their kindness during Armeda's illness in Arizona. A memorial service will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 12, 2001 at Northwest United Methodist Church, 5200 Riverside Drive, Columbus, Oh. 43220 with Rev. Harold Davidson officiating. Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at RUTHERFORD FUNERAL HOME AT POWELL, 450 West Olentangy Street (Powell Road), Powell. Private family graveside will be held in Dublin Cemetery. Those who wish may contribute to the Northwest United Methodist Church in Armeda's memory.

STEELE Vincent Jerome Steele, 48, Friday, April 6, 2001 at Doctors North Hospital. He is preceded in death by his father Albert Steele, Sr. and sister Nettie Mae Steele. He is survived by his mother, Lemmie Ruth Jordon; daughter, Keisha Lige; favorite brother, Albert (Val) Steele, Jr; siblings, Cecelia Steele, Dorinda Jordan, Reginald (Deborah) Steele; second mother, Esther Bridges; aunt, Gladys Jordan; uncle, Thomas Hall; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends. Mr. Steele was a lifetime member of Greater Jordon's Temple. Funeral service will be held 8 p.m. Monday, April 9, 2001 at Greater Jordon's Temple, 52 Reeb Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43207 where family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. TAYLOR Dorothy J. Taylor, age 82, passed away Saturday, April 7, 2001 at St. Ann's Hospital. Retired from Rockwell. Survived by sister Octa W. Kessel, Sun City, Cal.; many nieces and nephews; special friends, Wilma Adcock, Dan Mullet, John Springer. Preceded in death by husband Ralph J. Taylor. Funeral services Tuesday 10 a.m. In the LONG FUNERAL HOME, 5528 Cleveland Ave. (one block South of SR161). Family will receive friends Monday 6-8 p.m.

THOMAS (DOWNEY) Eloise (Downey) Thomas, age 75, of Columbus, went home to be with her Lord Sunday, April 8, 2001. Born July 15, 1925 near Cumberland, Ohio. Preceded in death by her husband William in 1993 and by her brother Robert and sister Verna. Eloise was a devoted wife, committed mother and grandmother and a caring and giving person to everyone she came in contact. She was also an active member of Grace Baptist Church of Westerville. Her survivors include her sons, John (Sharon) and Ron (Renee); daughter, Cheryl (John) Miller; ten grandchildren; sisters, Pauline (Richard) Harmer and Mary (Ray) Gillespie; brother, Harold (Nita) Downey. Funeral service will be held 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2001 at Grace Baptist Church, 3475 Paris Blvd., Westerville with Pastor Murray Murdoch and Pastor William E. Abernathy, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Cemetery. Friends may call at the RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 515 High Street, Worthington on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at church on Wednesday. VANDYKE Pearl VanDyke, age 73, April 6, 2001 at Doctor's Hospital West. Employed by Lazarus until her retirement in 1990. (Donna) Wheeler of Dayton, Oh. and Paul Richard (Susan) Wheeler of San Diego, Ca.; grandchildren Rev. Harley W. WILEY Norah Belle Sullivan Wiley, age 89, died Sunday, April 8, 2001. Born September 7, 1911 in Prices Creek Wayne, Co., W. Va. Preceded in death by parents Lewis and Levisa Belle Sullivan; brothers, Golden, Eugene, Wayne, Dewey and Cecil Sullivan; sisters, Anna Simms, Frances Harper, Emma Becket and Lola Josselson. Survived by daughter and son-in-law, Mondra and John Rose of Columbus; granddaughter, Mondra and her husband, Ali Fazely; great grandson, Michael Fazely all of Baton Rouge, La.; several nieces and nephews. WRIGHT Luther T. Wright, age 86, Thursday, April 5, 2001 at Grant Medical Center. He retired from Conrail after 40 years of service. He attended Hosack Street Baptist Church. A U.S. Army Veteran of WW II. Preceded in death by his parents, 5 sisters and 5 brothers. Survived by his loving and devoted wife, Rhea Brown Wright; Godson, John G. Jackson; sisters-in-law, Delores Jackson, Constance Brown, Geneva Logan, Lyle Brown and step mother-in-law, Anna Brown, all of London, W.Va.; favorite niece, Ruby Campbell of Roanoke, Va.; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. BARGER James Ralph Barger, gone but not forgotten, passed away April 4, 2001 in San Jose, Calif. WW II U.S. Army veteran. He retired from the IBEW local 683 in 1977 after many years of service. Born to the late William and Mae Bargar in Cadiz, Oh. on January 12, 1915. "Ralph" was one of 5 children. Preceded in death by sister Nellie. Survived by wife, Wilma; children, Cindy (Bart) Nollenberger and Bobbi Barger, both of Calif. and James (Colleen) Barger of Columbus, Oh.; grandchildren, Tiffany, Tyler, Dax and Nick Nollenberger; 3 step-grandchildren; 1 step-great-grandson; sisters, Irene, Mary and Alta; many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. DAWSON Richard "Rick" D. Dawson Sr., 60, of Columbus, Sunday, April 8, 2001 at Riverside Methodist Hospital. President and founder of Network Printing & Graphics, Inc., a commercial printing company in Worthington. Veteran U.S. Navy Lieutenant JG, F 4 Phantom Fighter Pilot off carriers in early Vietnam War, member Port Clinton Yacht Club. Survived by wife, Cathy; son Richard (Janet) D. Dawson, Jr.; 3 granddaughters, Kyle, Morgan, and Delaney; and brother Steve Dawson, Memorial service will be 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2001 at RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 515 High Street, Worthington, where friends may call 1 hour prior to service. EMSWILER Helen L. Emswiler, 87, of Westerville, died Sunday, April 8, 2001. Born July 21, 1913 in Luray, Ohio, Helen was a member of Etna United Methodist Church, Pataskala Senior Citizen's, Sew and Blow and the Etna Grange. Survived by her three children, Mary Lee (John) Hall of Sunbury, Richard (Mary Lou) Emswiler of Gahanna and Glen (Beverly) Emswiler of Lincoln, Neb.; brothers and sisters, Ronald Eyman of Alexandria, Margaret Knepper of Pickerington, Kathleen Barrett of Reynoldsburg and Mary Watson of Pataskala; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband Lee Emswiler; parents Frank Eyman and Golda Eyman and one brother William Eyman. She was preceded in death by her husband John W, parents Charles and Cora Belle Darling, brothers Frank, John and Ralph Darling, sister Ruth Noe. She is survived by daughters, Phyllis Love, Patty (Isaac) Kinser; son, Charles W. (Janice) Gayton; brother, Dr. Fred Darling, Richmond, KY.; sister-in-law, Imogene Darling, New Boston, OH.; 11 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren and special friends at Franklin Woods, Edith and Andrew.
