Survived by children, Evelyn (David) Surdell, Norfolk, Va., Joyce (Carl) Sellers, Lebanon, Pa., Terry Sue Tanner, Mt. Vernon, George (Carolyn) Bachman, Baltimore; daughter-in-law, Evelyn Bachman, Carroll; 9 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ilo Bradley, Lithopolis, Mildred Reichert, Columbus; sisters-in-law, Norma Norris, Eloise Norris, both of Carroll; nieces and nephews. CROGNALE Stanley J. Crognale Sr., age 80, died Tuesday, April 10, 2001 at Riverside Methodist Hospital. He was a retired Car Inspector with the New York Central Railroad, a member of Saint Matthias Catholic Church and the Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church, A member of Amici D'Ori, and SFI Lodge where he served as an officer for 32 years. He was a World War II veteran of the Coast Guard. He is preceded in death by his wife of 53 years Levia Crognale. He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Stan and Carol Crognale; daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Paul Emlich; grandchildren, Amy O'Connell, Lee Crognale and Michelle Emlich; great-grandchildren, Megan, Cori and Sammy Crognale and Heather Kirschenbauer; sisters, Terri Tocci, Janet Search and Rose Pivetta; brother, Art (Jane) Crognale, sisters-in-law, Mary Bernardo, Olga (Bill) Mathias, Norma Antonelli, Jo (John) Gallucci; brother-in-law; Geno (Ellen) Buzzelli; and many nieces and nephews. DAY Robert A. Day, age 58, of Upper Arlington, died suddenly April 8, 2001 in a boating accident in the British Virgin Islands. Survived by wife, Peggy E. Day and father, Lewis I. Graduate of Upper Arlington High School 1960. Ohio State University 1965. Member of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity. Captain, United States Army 1966-1968. MBA, Bowling Green University. Executive Vice President with Ohio Manufacturers Association 1974 to 1991. Current partner and Executive Vice President with the insurance agency Blazer and Associates Inc. Current member of the Columbus Association of Health Underwriters. Treasurer of Ohio Delta Company of Phi Kappa Psi, 1975-1988. Board member and recently elected Treasurer of East Central Ohio Food Dealers Association Credit Union. Member of Ohio Society of Association Executives, the Athletic Club of Columbus and Scioto Country Club. Lifelong member of First Community Church. Devoted Upper Arlington and Denison University swim parent. The family will receive friends Saturday April 14th beginning at 11 a.m. at First Community Church, 1320 Cambridge Blvd. in Brownlee Hall. DEAN Necie Collins Dean, 87, of Pataskala, Oh., formerly of Olive Furnace, Oh., died Thursday, April 12, 2001, Mt. Carmel East Hospital, Columbus, Oh. Born April 6, 1914 in Greenup, Ky., daughter of the late Ballard and Sara Nipp Collins. Retired School Bus Driver for Decatur Washington School District. Member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Preceded in death by husband Arnold Dean in 1979, 1 daughter, 3 great-grandchildren, 4 sisters and 4 brothers. Survived by sons, Kenny Dean of Pataskala, Oh., Gomer Dean of Reynoldsburg, Oh., Douglas Dean of South Webster, Oh., Gary Dean of Peebles, Oh. and Melvin Dean of Alliance, Oh.; 6 daughters, Lenora Morgan of Riverside, Calif., Loretta Clouser of Calif., Geneva Ellis of South Webster, Oh., Janet Dean of South Point, Oh., Debbie Galentine of Columbus, Oh. and Evelyn Powell of Pataskala, Oh.; 3 sisters, Dorothy Addis, Nora Donohoe and Nancy Craiuse, all of Alliance, Oh.; 30 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren. FELTY Patricia Jean Fitzgerald Felty, age 60, formerly of Columbus, died suddenly from complications of cancer on Monday, April 9, 2001 in Pennsylvania . Survived by daughters, Kathryn (Carl) Earls of Westerville, Katie (Ken) Lippincott of Delaware; grandchildren, Carl, Cody and Nathan; sister, Sandra (Bob) Westfall; brother, W. Michael (Susan) Fitzgerald; niece, Mollie Jean Fitzgerald; nephew, Michael Edward (Claire) Fitzgerald; great niece, Susan Abigail Larsen; also many other relatives and friends. An accomplished artist and poet, she possessed an inner beauty and a fine sense of humor. A 1959 graduate of Upper Arlington H.S. and attended DePauw University. Former owner of Globe Galleries, Inc. and for 13 years a graphic designer with Frontiers International in Pittsburgh, Pa. While living in Columbus she did volunteer work with the Pleasure Guild and Columbus Cancer Clinic. She was a former Worthington Hills Golf Champion. The family will recieve friends 6-9 p.m. Friday at SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 6699 North High Street (* mile South of I-270), where funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, April 14, 2001. GOLDSMITH Sadie Goldsmith, age 91, died at Convalarium at Indian Run on April 12, 2001. Mrs. Goldsmith was preceded in death by her husband Max Goldsmith. Survivors include 3 sons, Harold (Marilyn), Bruce (Carol) and David (Pat); 6 grandchildren, Andrea Pirri, Susan Goldsmith, Michelle Platt, Allison Goldsmith, Jennifer Goldsmith and Michael Goldsmith; 1 great-grandchild, Brittany Adams. GRAUL Charles S. Graul, age 52, of Grove City, passed away Tuesday April 10, 2001 at Mt. Carmel Medical Center. He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Employed by Ohio Auto Auction and was a U.S. Air Force veteran during Vietnam War. Survived by mother, Rose Graul; aunt, Mary Catherine Stewart; cousin, Bill (Martha) Graul and family. HARPER Robert Paul "Squirt" Harper, age 79, Tuesday, at Grant Medical Center. Retired building contractor. Granduate of Hamilton Township High School, Class of 1940. Life member and past Commander of American Legion Post #144. Life member of VFW Post #3424, Veteran of WW II, Army-Air Corps. Member of Columbus Slow Pitch Softball Hall of Fame. Played for numerous Columbus Softball Teams. Played Baseball for Red Birds, Cardinals and professional Baseball for New York. Avid gardner, fisherman and golfer. Loving and dedicated "Papal". Preceded in death by parents Romie and Mary Bayliss Harper., brother Roy "Pete" Harper, first wife Eunice Snider Harper and second wife Helen Schull Harper. HOAGLAND Benjamin Franklin Hoagland III, D.D.S., went home to be with the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday morning, April 10, 2001. He was born May 28, 1934 and was reborn again in November of 1961. He was a graduate of the Columbus Academy and the College of Dentistry at The Ohio State University. He practiced dentistry with his father and mother, Drs. Benjamin and Mary Hoagland for 16 years and with his son, Dr. Steven Hoagland for 15 years. He practiced anesthesiology at Union County Memorial Hospital in Marysville, Oh. for many years. He was a member of Grace Brethren Church of Powell, the Columbus Dental Society, the Athletic Club of Columbus, Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity and Rocky Fork Headly Hunt. He was past board member of Word of Life Fellowship in Schroon Lake, NY. He is survived by wife of 45 years, Kay Kelsik; son, Steven (Beckie); daughter, Susan (John) Harper; 5 grandchildren, Marielle and Benjamin Hoagland, Carolyn, Joe and Grace Harper; 2 sisters, Norma Jean Loving and Mary Jo Price. Memorial service at the new Grace Brethren Church of Powell, 7600 Liberty Road (just south of Home Road, phone # 740-881-6200), on Saturday, April 14 at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Private burial. The family suggests contributions may be made to Grace Brethren Church of Powell or Word of Life Fellowship, Schroon Lake, NY 12870. Dr. Hoagland is fondly remembered by his many friends as "Benjy." One of his favorite Bible verses was Romans I:16: "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation, for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Gentile."
