Rev. Schroeder, Elder teacher

The Rev. William Schroeder, former pastor at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Anderson Township and at St. Aloysius Parish in Shandon, died Sunday at St. Margaret Hall. He was 80.

Rev. Schroeder was a priest for more than 50 years.

He was pastor at St. Aloysius Parish from 1966 until 1972, when he became pastor at Immaculate Heart of Mary. He was pastor there until 1984.

Rev. Schroeder taught at Elder High School and was chaplain at the former St. George Hospital.

He also was chaplain at the former Fort Scott Camp in New Burlington and directed the camp from 1959 until 1966.

He also served as associate pastor at St. Martin of Tours, Cheviot; St. Lawrence, Price Hill; St. Catherine, Westwood, and St. Antoninus, Western Hills.

Survivors are a brother, Robert Schroeder, and a sister, Ruth Donnelly, of Cincinnati.

Visitation is 4-6 p.m. Thursday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Mass is 10 a.m. Friday at the church.

The T.P. White Funeral Home, Mount Washington, is in charge of arrangements.

Sister Rose Teresa Schneider, educator

Sister Rose Teresa Schneider, O.S.F., of Oldenburg, Ind., a former teacher and principal at Sacred Heart School in Fairfield, Ohio, died Wednesday. She was 81.

Sister Schneider was born in Cincinnati, made her final vows in 1940 and then devoted herself to tri-state schools.

She taught at St. Louis School in Batesville, Ind., and St. Bonaventure School in South Fairmount, and served as both a teacher and principal at Sacred Heart. She also was a librarian with the former Our Lady of Angels School in Cincinnati.

Survivors include sisters, Rita Amschler and Gloria Almond; and brothers, Charles Schneider and Cletus Schneider, all of Cincinnati.

Mass: 3 p.m. EST Friday at Sisters of St. Francis Motherhouse Chapel, Oldenburg. Visitation: 1 p.m. EST Friday at the motherhouse.

Harry Leland Zerbe, prominent attorney

Harry Leland Zerbe, 76, Indiana attorney and former Dearborn and Ohio county prosecutor, died Thursday at his home in Villa Hills, Ky.

Born in Columbus, Ohio, Zerbe served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and returned to graduate from Ohio State University, Columbus, in 1948 and from the Salmon P. Chase law school (now at Northern Kentucky University) in Cincinnati in 1955.

Mr. Zerbe was a candidate for the 9th Congressional District seat in 1964 and served as prosecutor in Dearborn and Ohio counties from 1958-66. As prosecutor, Mr. Zerbe used the first Indiana anti-hate law to enjoin the Ku Klux Klan from its plans for a rally in Dearborn County.

After leaving the prosecutor's office, he was a successful criminal defense attorney. Three of his six children followed him into the practice of law and worked with him in his practice.

''He was a devoted and beloved father,'' said a son, David Zerbe. ''Each of his children would say he was the best friend we ever had.''

Mr. Zerbe and his wife, Elizabeth, celebrated their 50th anniversary last July.

He also leaves other sons, Hank and Dr. John Zerbe, both of Cincinnati, and Matthew P. Zerbe, of Lawrenceburg, Ind.; daughters, Pamela Kirwin Zerbe, of Cincinnati and Angela Strohmeier, of Cyprus; and 13 grandchildren.

Mass: noon Saturday at St. Lawrence Church, Lawrenceburg. Memorials: St. Xavier High School, Cincinnati. Arrangements: Radel Funeral Home, Delhi Township.

Charles Taylor, started fire department

Charles Eugene Traylor helped start the New Hebron Fire District and spent 14 years working in the Hebron, Ky., Fire Department.

Mr. Traylor, 66, of Hebron, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.

In the fire department, Mr. Traylor served as a captain, treasurer and emergency medical technician from 1972 until 1986.

He also directed the Memorial Day parade in Hebron and was a retired punch press operator with Wadsworth Electric in Covington and Erlanger.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Ann Ruddick Traylor; a daughter, Amy L. Traylor of Walton; sons, Donald W. Traylor of Walton and Alvin L. Traylor of Florence; a sister, Lucille Seitz of Cincinnati; a brother, Arthur E. Traylor of Falmouth; and four grandchildren.

Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Hebron. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
