Stone

Jack R. Stone, Sr. a former resident of Altus and most recently residing in Dallas, Texas died on June 15, 2000 at the age of 92. He was born Dec. 22, 1907 in Blue Mountain, Ark.

Jack was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother to his family and a good friend to many throughout his lifetime. He was respected as a good man, businessman and community leader of which he was very proud. He lived his life as an example for his family of which his family is immensely proud. His sense of humor and love of life was an example for all and he was a hero to many.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Doris Elizabeth Jones Stone; survived by his sons, Barry E. Stone, Altus, Oklahoma and Jack R. Stone, Jr., Dallas, Texas; sister, Gwendolyn Seikel, Westminister, Colorado, Granddaughter, Shelly Lyn Armstrong; Grandson, Steve M. Stone; Great-grandchildren, Caitlin, Clair, Jarret and Gabrielle Armstrong; Sabine and Danielle Schaffers; and twins on the way.

As the son of E. and Mittye Stone, he started his business career with Firestone in Shawnee, Oklahoma from 1930 to 1938, then as a successful merchant in Tucumcari, New Mexico from 1938-1958; and later owned the First National Bank in Tipton, Oklahoma before retiring in 1977.

Vaughan

Arrena B. Vaughan, 89, died Wednesday in Altus. Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home with Sonny Tims officiating. Burial will follow at the Resthaven Cemetery in Quitaque, Texas under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. Memorials may be made in Arrena Vaughan's name to JCMH Hospice.

She was born April 16, 1911 in Hollis to Dan and Dora (Burns) Johnston. She had been a resident of Altus and Jackson County for 20 years. She was a homemaker and a child care provider. She worked at Mothers Day Out at the First United Methodist Church for nine years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Senior Perspectives.

Survivors include two daughters, Arrena Sue Littrell of Bethany and Carrleen Coffin of Altus; a son, Elbert Vaughan of Bethany; three sisters, Nancy Smallwood of Plainview, Texas, Kathryn Meeks of Hollis and Dephena Crownover of Amarillo, Texas; seven grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother, J.D. Johnston; a sister, Girtha Mae Vaughan; one grandchild and one great-grandchild.

Wagoner

Wag Wagoner, 86, died Tuesday, June 6, 2000, in Altus. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Friday at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Bill Osborne officiating. Interment will follow at Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

Wagoner was born Sept. 4, 1913, at Montecito, Calif., the son of Jess and Nora (Lyles) Wagoner. He was raised in the Ozark Community, graduating from Ozark School.

He was stationed in England during World War II, receiving six bronze stars and the distinguished unit badge. He retired from Liberty Nation Bank where he served as vice president in 1974.

Wagoner returned to Altus after his retirement and did volunteer work at Jackson County Memorial Hospital, as a dispatcher for Southwest Transit and at the Altus Public Library. He was also a 32nd degree Mason.

Survivors include: one brother, Harry Wagoner of Altus; two nieces, Donna Hughes of Oklahoma City and Vicki Avant of Altus; one nephew, Denny Wagoner of Lawton and many great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family will greet friends from 6 until 7 p.m. today at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

Wilson

May Jean Wilson, 63, Altus, died Tuesday at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Louis Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home.

She was born March 31, 1937 in Altus to Neely and Lucille Griffin Lidy. She attended schools in Vernon, Texas and Pampa, Texas and was a licensed vocational nurse. She worked in nursing homes for several years in Texas and Oklahoma before her retirement in 1992. She married Frank S. Wilson June 3, 1993 in Vernon, Texas. She was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church in Altus. Her hobby was collecting figurines and spending time with children.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Neely Lidy, Jr.

Survivors include her husband, Frank S. Wilson, Altus; a daughter, Jewdy Hill, Altus; three sons, John L. Weaver, Houston, Texas; Clarence E. Weaver and Bryant K. Jackson, Altus; her step-mother, Annie B. Lidy, Altus; six sisters, Mary Copeland, Altus; Oretha Moore, Lubbock, Texas; Yolanda and Shalonda Lidy, Altus; Emma Jean Wilson, Stockton, Calif and Dorothy Barber, Oklahoma City; five brothers, Roy Glen Lidy, Altus; Jackie Barber, Oklahoma City, Leonard, Marcus and Ricky Lidy, Tipton; a mother-in-law, Sarah L. Wilson; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Anderson

Linda Kay Pierce Anderson, 53, of Mangum, died Wednesday evening, July 12, 2000, at Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City. Funeral services are set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Mangum Church of God with the Rev. Samuel Studer officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Stewart Funeral Services.

Anderson was born Oct. 10, 1946, in Arizona, to Herschel and Mamie Langston. She lived in Mangum for four years. She was a member of the Mangum Church of God.

Survivors include: five children, Kenneth Pierce and his wife Sharon of Mesa, Ariz., James Pierce and his wife Donita, also of Mesa, Renda Rodriguez and her husband John of Chandler, Ariz. and Brian Pierce, also of Chandler; her mother, Mamie Alexander of Mangum; three brothers, Paul Langston of Orange Grove, Calif., Charlie Langston of Oklahoma City and Bobby Langston of San Angelo, Texas; two sisters, Ola Mae Cartwright, Mangum and Connie Langston of Phoenix, Ariz.; seven granddaughters; six grandsons and one great granddaughter.

Baker

Dolores Ann Baker, Altus, died Sunday after a brief illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Kincannon Funeral Home Chapel with Father Joseph Jacobi as the celebrant. Arrangements are under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home.

She was born Nov. 12, 1930 to Paul and Regina Williams of Tulsa. She attended Holy Family High School, graduating in 1948 and attended Oklahoma A&M College, where she graduated with Bachelors of Science Degree in Sociology and Elementary Education. She was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority.

She married Boy "Pappy" Baker in October, 1952 at Norman, Tulsa and Claremore before moving to Altus in 1962. She worked in her husband's law office for five years before being employed by the Oklahoma Department of Human Services in 1968 as a social worker. She served as social worker, supervisor and retired in 1993 after serving as county director for 13 years.

She served on the foundation boards for ACMI House for battered women's shelter and the Tumbleweed Work Center. She served many years on the boards of Southwest Community Action and Head Start. Her hobbies included reading, dancing and taking trips with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Boyd, of the home; a son, Michael Brett Baker, Oklahoma City; a daughter, Kerry Lebowitz and her husband, Marc, Richmond Va.; three brothers, Bob Williams, Aurora, Colo., Paul Williams and wife, Donna, Tulsa, Lee Williams and wife, Ellie of Toledo, Ohio; a granddaughter, Tausha Baker; an aunt, Bernice Mathews, Advance, N.C.; several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Barber

LAWTON-Funeral services for Raymond P. (Ray) Barber, 78, of Lawton, were held at 1 p.m. today at Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Elder Glen Williams, Primitive Baptist Church of Eldorado, officiating. Burial was at Walters Cemetery with military honors. Barber died Wednesday, July 12, 2000, at Mangum City Hospital.

Barber was born Oct. 26, 1921, in Wheeler, Texas. He grew up in Shamrock, Texas. He married Hazel Akin on Nov. 18, 1941, in Walters. He served in the Army from September of 1942 until November of 1945. He was a veteran of World War II and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with one silver service star, World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal with Germany clasp.

He worked for Raulston Furniture as a salesman for 30 years.

He was a member of the Northside Baptist Church for 45 years, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5263 and was an avid golfer.

Barber was preceded in death by a grandchild, Kendall Barber; six brothers, Pearson, Earl, Charley, Gene, Alvie and Walter and a sister, Mary Gibbins.

Survivors include: his wife of the home; a son, Fred Barber and his wife Nell of Chickasha; a daughter, Paula Willis and her husband Jim, of Blair; a sister, Pear Parker of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren, Todd, Chad and Suzanne Willis, Carol and Pamela Barber; three great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Barnes

Wanda Lynne Barnes, 84, died Saturday, July 15, 2000, in Huntsville, Texas. Graveside services are set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Martha Cemetery with the Rev. Doug Burr officiating. Lowell-Tims Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Barnes was born April 18, 1916, to Alva Franklin and Lillie Viola (Rodgers) Doughty, in Martha. She graduated from Martha High School and earned a degree in education from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford. She taught school in Martha, Vernon, Texas and Brownsville, Texas.

She married Cleatus Gammill and later married Ennos Barnes. Both her husbands preceded her in death. She was a member of the Methodist church.

Survivors include: two sons, James E. Gammill, Huntsville, Texas and Jimmy Barnes of Lubbock, Texas; two sisters, Doris Evans of Greensboro, N.C. and Charlsie Pricer of Wichita Falls, Texas; four grandchildren, Hudson "Bucky" Gammill, Gina Allen, Tina Gammill and Jessie Barnes and three great grandchildren.

Bruce

Kevin Francis Bruce, 31, died Sunday at his home in Norman. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Faith Assembly of God Church in Norman. Pastor John Gifford will officiate.

He was born Sept. 16, 1968 in Showlow, Ariz and grew up at Guam. After graduating high school in Guam, he enlisted in the United States Army. He was stationed at Fort Sill and German before returning to Altus. He married his wife, Angie, Dec. 18, 1988 in Altus.

He moved to Norman where he attended the University of Oklahoma and Moor-Norman technology Center.

Survivors include his wife, Angie; two children, Justin and Racheal; parents, Rachel and Gene Bruce of Conroe, Texas; a brother, Donald and his wife Cathy, of San Diego; a sister, Janine and husband Bill Mills, of Vineland, N.J.; his mother-n-law and father-in-law, Julia and Tommy Revilla of Altus; a sister-in-law, Rachel Revilla of Altus; three nieces; three nephews; two grandmothers and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Cansler

Lillie Belle Hendricks Cansler, 84, died Friday at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Hollis. Services were held today at the Hollis Church of Christ with Bill Osborne officiating. Burial followed at the McKnight Cemetery and was under the direction of Stewart Funeral Service of Hollis.

She was born Nov. 12, 1915 to Roy and Gracie Hendricks at Hugo. She graduated from Hollis High School in 1937 and she married A.R. "Bob" Cansler Jan. 21, 1939 at the home of Earl Breechen in Hollis. She was an active member at the Churches of Christ in Shrewder, Gould, and Hollis. She donated many hours mending clothes and making james and jellies for the Westview Boys Home. Her hobbies included gardening and being outdoors.

Survivors include two sons and two daughters-in-law, Robert Roy and Gail Cansler of Gould and Leonard Lee and JoAnn Cansler of Hollis; two grandsons Roy Cansler and wife Reve of Fairview and Kevin and Melissa Cansler of Poteau; two granddaughters Karrie and husband Michael McAlister of Hollis and Holly and husband Jamie Boone of Hollis; a borther, Don Hendricks of Pampa, Texas and a sister Lola B. Masters of Hollis and five great-grandchildren.

Collins

Wayne Jess Collins, 82, Warren, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 4, 2000, from his home. A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Landmark Missionary Baptist Church of Blair with the Rev. S.K. Robinson officiating. Burial followed at the Warren Cemetery.

Collins was born Oct. 29, 1917, in Tipton, to Paul S. and Lena Pearl (Adams) Collins. He graduated from Lainge School, near Tipton. He spent his childhood on a farm near Tipton.

He married Juanita E. Melton on Jan. 20, 1940, in Hobart. They raised their family in southwest Oklahoma.

Collins began working as a farmer, later becoming a mechanic for 18 years in the Altus area. He was co-owner of the Ford dealership in Tipton for several years. He then became an insurance agent until 1964. For the next several years, he owned two service stations in Altus as well as a trucking company.

For the remainder of his career he was employed by Southwest Seed Delinting, retiring from there three years ago.

He was a member of Landmark Missionary Baptist Church of Blair and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and being outdoors near the water.

Collins was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, LaVern Herman Collins and a daughter, Glenna Sue Collins Sanchez.

Survivors include: his wife of 60 years, Juanita Collins of Warren; two sons and daughters-in-law, Don Wayne and Wanda Collins of Elmer and Garry Dale and Joy Collins of Columbus, Miss.; one daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Doug Jackson, Warren; eight grandchildren, Mark Collins, Dallas, Texas, Cheryl Cain of Elmer, Dale Jackson of Maysville, Pamela Spence of Roosevelt, Jason and Jeremy Collins, both of Columbus, Miss., Tina Sissneros, Denver, Colo. and Stephen Sanchez of Oklahoma City; 11 great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Donations in his name may be made to Jackson County Memorial Hospital Hospice or Landmark Missionary Baptist Church.
