Putman

Leta Mae Putman, 70, died Friday, June 30, 2000, in the Bryan County Manor in Durant. Graveside services will be Monday, 10 a.m. at the Blair Cemetery under the direction of People's Funeral Home, Lone Wolf.

Putman was born February 9, 1930 in Hester, Oklahoma to Melvin and Nova (Smith) Putman. She lived in the Hester community and attended both the Hester and Mangum schools.

She enjoyed playing the piano. She was a resident of the Bryan County Manor for the last 17 years of her life. Her grandparents, James B. and Zora (Wallace) Smith were Hester pioneers, both being very active in Greer County church and community life.

She was preceded in death be her parents, grandparents and her uncle, James Denzil Smith. She is survived by a number of cousins.

Rodriquez

Phil Rodriquez, Jr., 44, of Altus, died Sunday, July 16, 2000, at his home.

Memorial services are set for 10 a.m. Thursday at Kincannon Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mark Olson, Jerry Madrid and Steven Madrid officiating. There will be no public visitation, however, friends may sign the memorial register at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. until service time.

Rodriquez was born Aug. 18, 1955, to Conception "Phil" Sr. and Margarita Jimenez Rodriquez, in Salina, Kan. He attended Altus Schools, graduating from Altus High School in 1973. He also obtained an associate of arts degree in computer programming from Condie College in San Jose, Calif.

He had worked for the City of Altus in the data processing department for 22 years. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed raising, training and riding horses.

Rodriquez was preceded in death by his mother, Margarita Rodriquez and his sister, Rosalie Madrid.

Survivors include: a daughter and son-in-law, Amber and Tommy Pride of Altus; a son and his wife, Chad and Tracy Blankenship of Tahlequah; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Yolanda and Peter Avila and Melba and Jauquin Martinez, all of Altus; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Maggie Madrid, Colorado Springs, Colo., Steven and LaTonya Madrid of Urbandale, Iowa and Alex Rodriquez, Altus; a grandson, Keegan Pride of Altus and many other nieces and nephews.

Roeder

Viva Roeder, 90, died Wednesday at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Services will beld 10 a.m. Tuesday at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Keith Wiginton officiating. Burial will follow at the Restlawn Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

She was born Dec. 5, 1909 to John and Eliza Isabel (Laws) Rodenhouse. She married Harry Ernest Roeder March 2, 1929 in Altus. He preceded her in death.

She was a Sunday School teacher at the First Baptist Church for many years.

Survivors include her daughter, Lola Crittenden; son-in-law, James Crittenden of California; her sister, Jonnie Byrd of Missouri; brother-i-law, John Roeder of Missouri and many nieces and nephews.

Russell

J.T. Russell, 83, long time Jackson County resident, died Saturday, July 22, 2000. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 25 at the First Baptist Church in Altus with the Rev. Melvin Moody and Rev. Bob Maxey officiating. Burial will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home.

He was born August 29, 1916, in Altus, to O.A. and Lillie Mae (Blackwell) Russell. He graduated from Martha High School and married Eva Mae Truitt in the First Baptist Church in Altus, December 12, 1939.

He had farmed and ranched in Jackson County all his life. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, a member of the Oklahoma Cattlemen's Association and the Farm Bureau. He enjoyed raising cattle and working the hay fields. He also made many friends over the years by supplying vegetables out of his large garden and fruit out of his orchards. He cherished his children, grandchildren and church friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a daughter, Lillie Mae Russell, a sister, Leta Loveless and two brothers, W.D. and Claude Russell.

He is survived by two daughters, Brenda Caudell and Linda Williams, Altus; a son Buck Russell and wife Joyce, Altus; one brother, Caroll Streetman, Nachadaouches, Texas; one sister Mattie Lee Russell, Altus; seven grandchildren, eight great children and many friends.

Taylor

Donny C. Taylor, age 47 of Mangum, passed away at his home, June 30, 2000.

Taylor was born November 21, 1952 in Mt. Pleasant, Texas, to Bud and Thelma (Finney) Taylor. On December 3, 1986, in Paris, Texas, he and Jacquelyn Greb were united in marriage.

He had lived in the Greer and Jackson County area since 1997. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and trips to Red River. Most of all he enjoyed the precious time he spent with his family and friends.

Taylor worked in the funeral industry for many years. He considered this his ministry, and he always wanted to help anyone at any time. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mangum.

Memorial service is scheduled for Monday, July 3, at 2:30 p.m. in the Greer Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Pitson officiating. A graveside service will be held in Paris, Texas, on July 8 at Evergreen Cemetery at 2 p.m.

The family requests that donations be made to Integris Baptist Medical Center Foundation, attention 1107470, mark for liver research, 3300 NW Expressway, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, 73112.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Greer Funeral Home.

Taylor was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife Jacquelyn Taylor; a son, John Taylor: Arlington, Texas; a brother: Bob Taylor of Paris, Texas; a sister: Jeanie Melton of Greenville, Texas; parents-in-law: Charles and Greta Greb of Mangum, a good friend, Sasha and several nieces and nephews and many friends.

Choate

Hollis Franklin Choate, 89, Altus, died September 28, 1999, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were held 2 p.m. today at Burkhardt Chapel in Frederick. Burial will be in Frederick Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the People's Cooperative Funeral Home, Lone Wolf.

He was born May 28, 1910 in Tillman County to Steve Strickland and Ethel Mae (Triplett) Choate. He attended school at Otter Creek. He married Lou M. Edwards May 17, 1928 in Elk City. She died July 11, 1962. He later married Larain L. Shafer in 1964 in Vernon, Texas. She died in 1987. He worked at the cotton gins in Altus and was a member of the Ridgecrest Church of Christ in Altus.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wives, Lou and Larain, and two brothers, Walter and Lawton.

He is survived by two daughters, Frankie Coella Mann, Denison, Texas, and Shirley Ruth Netherton, Oklahoma City, one stepdaughter, Jeraldine Kinman, Sweetwater, Texas, and three brothers, Bailey G. Choate, Abilene, Texas, Jack Choate, Sweetwater, Texas, and Cecil Choate, Roscoe, Texas. He is also survived by three sisters, Cleo Reid, Abilene, Texas, Irene Ballard, Oklahoma City, and Virgie Shankles, San Diego, Calif., seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ridgecrest Church of Christ.

Davis

Edna Mae Davis, 90, life long resident of Harmon County, died September 28, 1999, in Wichita Falls, Texas. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church, Hollis, with the Rev. David Furlow officiating. Internment will follow at Fairmount Cemetery under the direction of Patterson-Greer Funeral Home, Hollis.

She was born May 27, 1909, in Hollis to William Ed and Lillie Mae (Bowles) Hunter. She married George L. Davis June 6, 1928, in Hollis. She was a homemaker, long time active member of the Hollis First Baptist Church. She also had the distinction of being the first female born in Harmon County after Oklahoma became a state.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one daughter, Elaine Davis, and one son, Lee Davis.

She is survived by three sons, Max Davis, Gainesville, Texas, Billy Davis, Amarillo, Texas, Darron Davis, Bullhead, Ariz., one daughter, Carron Martin, Wichita Falls, Texas, and one sister, Ionia Gorshing, Arapaho. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren.

Massey

Hattie Massey, 95, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 1999, at Harmon County Memorial Hospital. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Fairmount Cemetery with the Rev. David Manney officiating. Services are under the direction of the Stewart Funeral Service.

She was born Nov. 17, 1904, to S. H. Farris and Florence Keeton Farris. She married Claude Ingram, son of a Harmon County pioneer couple, January 13, 1920. She and her husband farmed in the Hollis community for many years, and she was very active in community affairs. He died in 1963. She married Robert Massey, Tulia, Texas July 20, 1978. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Hollis.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, her parents, three sisters, and five brothers.

She is survived by one sister, Macie Pierce, Hollis, one niece, Shirley Smith, Hollis, and several other nieces and nephews.

Patterson

Dorothy Lee Patterson, Altus, died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 1999, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Services Brown/Christian Funeral Home.

Riggs

Graveside service for Homalene Novella Riggs, 79, of Pleasant Valley, will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003, at the Rogers Cemetery, Tipton.

Riggs died Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, at Winlen Oaks Living Center, Frederick. Burial will be under the direction of Gray Gish Funeral Home.

Homalene was born on May 4, 1924, to Homer Edward and Lilly Mae (Ferris) Davis in Navajo. She attended Navajo and Friendship Schools. She married James Riggs on July 26, 1943. They lived and farmed in Pleasant Valley. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, who passed away on March 9, 1997. She continued to farm in Pleasant Valley until her recent illness. She was a member of the Iris Unit of the Garden Club in Snyder. She was a member of the Pleasant Valley First Baptist Church and then later a member of the Snyder First Baptist Church. She was an artist and teacher of painting.

She is survived by a son, Lynn Riggs; two grandsons, Jimmy Riggs and Jack Riggs, two brothers in laws: Howard Riggs of Miami, Florida and Carroll Riggs and his wife Mayme, of Riverton, Wyo., Uncle Bud and Dutch Ferris; many aunts, uncles, cousin and friends.

Smyers

Graveside service for Donald Keith "Pete" Smyers, of Brownfield, Texas, will be at 11 a.m. Friday, October 17, 2003, at the Davidson Cemetery, with Rev. Ronnie Chadwick, pastor, First Baptist Church, Davidson.

Smyers died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003, in the Brownfield Rehabilitation Center, in Brownfield, Texas. Burial will be under the direction Gray Gish Funeral Home, in Frederick.

Pete was born on Feb. 27, 1930, in Maud to M.A. and Cecil (Clower) Smyers. He graduated from Wilson High School in Davidson, in 1952.

He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean War. He moved to Brownfield, Texas, in 1971. He worked for Citi Services and OXY since 1956, retiring in 1990.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, June Dickerson.

He is survived by two sons: Lonnie Smyers and his wife, Gloria, of Brownfield, Texas; Terry Smyers and his wife, Neisha, of Perryton, Texas; six grandchildren; three sisters; and one brother.
