Woodrow Wilson Lewis
Woodrow Wilson Lewis, 86, died Monday in Shawnee.

He was born Feb. 13, 1917, in Scottland, Ark., to Edgar Willie and Amy Colorado (Chastain) Lewis.

He service as a sergeant in the Army Air Corps.

He worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps for two years and helped build the New Mexico dam.

He was employed more than 30 years as a forklift operator with Wilson Foods before retiring in 1979.

After retirement, he and his wife moved to Stidham.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Opal Lewis; his infant son, David Allen Lewis; two brothers; and three sisters.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Jerry Lewis of Shawnee; daughters and a son-in-law, Pamela Lewis of Shawnee and Mary and Terry Tyler of O'Fallon, Mo.; brothers and sister-in-law, Buster and Helen Lewis of Mustang, Clarence Lewis of Redbluff, Calif., and Eugene Lewis of Ardmore; grandchildren, Laura Lewis, Travis Tyler, Michael Tyler and Michelle Adams; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday in the Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel at Southwest 104th and Walker in Oklahoma City. Burial will follow at the Resthaven Memory Gardens.

Arrangements are under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home of Oklahoma City.

Eunice E. Hayes
Eunice E. Hayes, 60, of Maud died Sunday at her home.

Survivors include her husband, David Hayes of the home; son, David Hayes Jr. of Waymart, Pa.; daughter, Kimberly Hayes Pellman of Maud; brothers, Verle Welch of Celeste, Texas, and Jessie Welch of Victoria, Texas; sisters, Naomi Parker of Los Lunas, N.M., Ruth Peterson of Taylorsville, Utah, and Becky Haws of Maud; and three grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church of Maud with the Rev. Tim Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Cummings Cemetery in Maud.

Arrangements are under the direction of Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home of Maud.

Eula G. Cross
Eula G. (Wilson) Cross, 98, Newalla, died Monday in Midwest City.

She is survived by a brother, Monty Wilson of Delta, Colo.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside service will be noon Thursday at White Rose Cemetery in Reydon under the direction of Smith-Parks Funeral Service of Harrah.

George P. Johnson
Noble resident George P. Johnson, 59, died Wednesday, June 16, in Oklahoma City.

He was born Sept. 17, 1944, to Milo Bert and Cordelia (Rieff) Johnson in Luther.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam.

He retired from Tinker Air Force Base, where he was a pneudraulic systems mechanic.

On June 24, 2000, he married Jane Leist Tague in Norman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Erwin Bert Johnson; and sister, Wanda Fay Johnson.

Survivors include his wife, Jane of the home; a son, Allen Bert Johnson and wife Marnie of Chandler; daughter, Crystal Renee Johnson of Ada; stepson, Paul Tague and wife Christy of Edmond; stepdaughter, Karen Brown and husband Shane of New Jersey; brother, Billy Johnson of Del City; two sisters, Shirley Heck and husband Harold of Shawnee and Dora Nealis and husband Jerry of Oklahoma City; and three grandchildren, Nicollas Johnson, Sydney Tague and Jarrett Brown.

Service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Primrose Chapel with the Rev. Gary Bohanon officiating. Burial will be at Noble IOOF Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Primrose Funeral Service.

Joseph W. Rice
Meeker resident Joseph W. "Jo-Jo" Rice, 70, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, in Shawnee.

He was born April 22, 1934, in Cushing to Lucien Rice and Louise (Shunatona) Rice.

He attended Centerview School in Prague.

He was married to Eloise Bushyhead for 37 years.

Rice was an Ocularist, artist-in-residence with the Oklahoma Arts Council (Indian cultural lecturer and traditional artist) and master craftsman.

He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a member of the Native American Church of Cheyenne Chapter 1 and the Oklahoma Seniors Indian Golf Association. He also was chosen as master of ceremonies for dances and major pow-wows as well as a participant for the Smithsonian Folklife Festival and the State of Oklahoma Representative for State Arts Council as a traditional artist to go to Taiwan.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Loy K. Panzer.

Survivors include his wife, Eloise Rice of the home; godson, Henry Foye; five sisters and two brothers-in-law, Shalah Rowlen and Carl, Jessie Tofpi, Edith Harjo, Delores Kahrahrah, Rosita (Pawnee) Duncan and Charles; three brothers, Lucien Rice II, Archie Rice and Bill Rice; numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, adopted nieces and nephews and other relatives.

Service will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Rice Family home place with burial at the Rice Family Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.

Memorials may be made to kidney donations and research.

Nicole Renee DeHuff
A memorial service for Nicole Renee DeHuff, 30, will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at the Cinema Centre 8, 3031 N. Harrison. DeHuff died Feb. 16 in Los Angeles, Calif.

She was born Jan. 6, 1975, in Antlers to Michael and Patsie (Myers) DeHuff, who now live in Shawnee. She attended elementary school in Broken Bow, then her family lived in Oklahoma City from 1984 to 1992. She graduated from Putnam City High School in 1993. In 1998, she earned a bachelor of arts degree in drama from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pa. She was an actor in the movie industry in Hollywood and was a member of the Screen Actor's Guild.

On Nov. 11, she married Ari Palitz of New York at a ceremony in Las Vegas, Nev.

Preceding her in death were her grandparents, Dorcas and Frank DeHuff and Delma and James R. Myers.

Surviving relatives include her parents of Shawnee; her husband of Hollywood Hills, Calif; a sister and brother-in-law, Gretchen and Marty Leahy of Ponchatoula, La.; three uncles, two aunts and several cousins.

A memorial service has already been held in Los Angeles.

Earl Wilkerson
Longtime Maud resident Earl J. "E.J." Wilkerson, 72, died Thursday, March 31, in Granbury, Texas.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Trinity Baptist Church of Maud with the Rev. Wayne Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Cummings Cemetery of Maud.

Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home of Maud is directing arrangements.

N.A. "Papa" Stevens
N.A. Stevens, Hutchinson, Kan., died Wednesday, April 27, in a Hutchinson Hospital. He was 76 years old.

Service will be 10 a.m. Monday with military honors at Riverside Baptist in Hutchinson with Pastors Richard Haley and Bob Raigoza officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Hutchinson under the direction of Elliott Mortuary.

Memorials may be sent to Riverside Baptist Church or American Diabetes Association.

Jo Dee Bussey
Tecumseh resident Jo Dee Bussey, 68, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 27,

A devoted wife, mother & grandmother was born Dec. 21, 1936 in Seminole to Arval & Doris Morris.

She was married April 30, 1954, to Joe Bussey in Shawnee. They were married for 50 years. She went on to graduate from Shawnee High School in 1955.

In 1968 she became the first married woman to graduate from St. Anthony School of Nursing. Once attaining this milestone, she went on to work and help run the family business of nursing homes. She later started the first Hospice in Shawnee.

She touched many in her life with her devotion to her profession and to her lord.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tecumseh. She enjoyed quilting, cooking, toile painting and gardening.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arval and Doris Morris.

Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Joe Bussey; three children and their spouses, Dee Mace of Shawnee, Mike and Sandie Bussey of Shawnee and Tracey & Jeff Fraser of New York; four grandchildren, Eric Lloyd, Micah Bussey, and Clint & Calli Johnson; brothers, Ronnie & Rose Morris of Alex and Larry Morris of Shawnee; brother-in-law, Don & Brenda Bussey of Guin, Ala.; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Viewing will be from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. today at Cooper Funeral Home. The casket will not open following the service.

Service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Tecumseh with Dr. Tim Walker officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park, Shawnee, under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Vinita C. Richards
Former Shawnee resident Vinita C. Richards, 87, died Wednesday, April 20, at a hospital in Texas.

She was born in Pittsburg, Okla., April 14, 1918, to Zen Corn and Francis (Harber) Corn. On Dec. 28, 1935, she married Thomas Richards Jr. in Okemah. They lived in Shawnee many years and all over the state of Oklahoma. Their last move was to Richardson, Texas, in 2003.

Vinita was a beautician for many years as well as a homemaker.

She is preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Johnnie Porter.

She is survived by her husband, Tom Richards Jr., of the home; two children, Jimmie D. Richards and his wife, Linda, of Richardson, Texas; Linda Francis Welch and her husband, Fred, of Wetumka; one brother, Eugene Corn of Salinas, Calif.; one sister, Pauline Barker of Pittsburg, Calif.; 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Resthaven Funeral Home with the Rev. Rene Ross officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Visitation is today at Resthaven Funeral Home.
