Jimmie Yerby
Jimmie Yerby, 103, died Sunday, April 17, at Unity Health Center in Shawnee.

He was born Jan. 10, 1902, in Alvord, Texas, to John L. Yerby and Janie (Porter) Yerby.

He moved to Petrolia, Texas, in 1920 and moved to Oklahoma in 1929.

He was married to Perl Waters and later married Shorty Thompson in 1975.

Yerby was a member of the Oklahoma Centernarian Club and Northwest Missionary Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one wife, Pearl; one son, Glendel Yerby; two brothers, B.B. Yerby and Leslie Yerby; one sister, Ethel Mae Zimmerman; and one step-son, Floyd Thompson.

Survivors include his wife, Shorty Yerby, of the home; two sons, Johnny Lee Yerby of Oklahoma City and Curtis L. Yerby of Oklahoma City; one step-son, Howard Thompson of Shawnee; one step-daughter, Juanita Lee of Prague; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. today at Northwest Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Ed Fox officiating. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Gaskill Funeral Home of Shawnee.

Meliton V. Ramos
Meliton V. Ramos, 70, of Tecumseh died Monday in Tecumseh.

Survivors include his wife, Herlinda Ramos of Oklahoma City; three daughters, Dora Olga of Colorado, Olga Stone of Midland, Texas, and Cleta Babbit of Tecumseh; one son, Mike Ramos of Oklahoma City; three sisters, Andrea Sanchez, Nicolasa Flores and Julia Avela; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Wake services will be 7 p.m. today at the Baggerley-South Funeral Chapel.

Graveside services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at the Highland Cemetery in Tecumseh.

Services are under the direction of Baggerley-South Funeral Home in Oklahoma City.

Harvey L. Geyer
Harvey L. Geyer, 92, of Tecumseh died Wednesday in Tecumseh.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Cooper Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Brown Cemetery.

Services are under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

John C. Scarberry
Bowlegs resident John Scarberry, 60, died Thursday in Seminole.

Survivors include his wife, Kay Scarberry of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Mike Atyia and Cherry and Terry Howard, all of Seminole; four brothers, Winford Scarberry and Dale Scarberry, both of Cordell, Clifford Scarberry of San Antonio, Texas, and Charlie Scarberry of Tecumseh; three sisters, Florence Woods of Burnsflat, Annie Patterson of Seguin, Texas, and Bertie Neely of Mustang; and six grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Kelvin Moseley officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Robert H. Whiteside
Robert H. "Bob" Whiteside, 66, of Tecumseh died Wednesday in Shawnee.

He was born Aug. 25, 1936, in Leroy, Minn., the son of Harry and Mildred (Fox) Whiteside.

Whiteside later lived in Kansas, Illinois and Davenport, Okla. He moved to Tecumseh in 1971. He attended school in Pawhuska, Kan.

He married Barbara Smith on Aug. 3, 1995, in Tecumseh. He owned Whiteside's Used Cars in Tecumseh from 1972 to 1977. He had owned and operated Bob's Auto Sales in Tecumseh since 1988.

From 1957 to 1959, he served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Robert Henry Whiteside II.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Whiteside of Tecumseh; two sons, Ken Whiteside of Lafayette, La., and John Carter of Tecumseh; three sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel and Jamie Whiteside of Davis, Randy and Mary Whiteside of Tecumseh and Russell and Jennifer Whiteside of Stratford; a daughter, Ruby Carter of Tecumseh; a daughter and son-in-law, Tracie and Linny Adkins of Tecumseh; 13 grandchildren; and other family members and friends.

A service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Cooper Funeral Home chapel in Tecumseh with the Rev. Clint Dawkins officiating. Burial will be in the Davenport Cemetery.

Arrangements are being handled by Cooper Funeral Home.

Buford Ray Rider
Shawnee resident Buford Ray Rider, 80, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, in Shawnee.

He was born June 21, 1924, in Oklahoma City to Floyd Buford and Stella Katherine (Cogle) Rider.

He lived in Oklahoma City for many years and in Texas as a young child. He moved to Seminole County in the early 1970s and to Shawnee in 1997.

Rider attended Jackson Junior High and was a graduate of Central High School in Oklahoma City.

He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II on the submarine USS McLanahan.

In April 1968, he married Oma Jackson in Gainesville, Texas. She preceded him in death Jan. 12, 2000.

He worked as a jet engine mechanic at Tinker Air Force Base before retiring to his Seminole County farm where he ranched for many years.

In his earlier years, he was a member of Agnew Avenue Baptist Church and later was a member of Cromwell Baptist Church. He also was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the American Legion and the Boot Scooters Dance Club.

He also was preceded in death by infant twin sons; two brothers, Buddy Rider and Gene Rider; and one sister, Dorothy Champion.

Survivors include two daughters, Diane May of Oklahoma City and Shirley Rider of Shawnee; one sister and brother-in-law, JoAnn and Don Wood of Mustang; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Donald and Cathy Rider and Jake Rider, all of Oklahoma City; four grandchildren, Jeff Packham, Jim May, Shelly Packham and Theresa Stehr; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Cooper Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Little Cemetery. Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh is in charge of arrangements.

Mary M. Decker
Chandler resident Mary M. Decker, 82, died Friday, April 1, in Stroud.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Oak Park Cemetery in Chandler with Kim Evans officiating.

Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service of Chandler.

Lula M. Coddington
Shawnee resident Lula M. Coddington, 79, died Friday, April 1, in Shawnee.

She was born Sept. 25, 1925, in Pink to William and Grace (Boles) Panther. She was a homemaker and a member of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe.

She married Clarence L. "Bud" Coddington in Van Buren, Ark. He preceded her in death in 1989.

She also was preceded in death by her parents and four sisters.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law Ann and Everett Miller of Shawnee; two sons, Will Coddington of King City, Calif., and Mike Coddington of Shawnee; a sister, Mary Birdtail of Newalla; a brother, Junior Panther of Shawnee, eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and many other relatives.

Service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with Jimmy Anderson and Ken Daughtery officiating.

Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Binger Cemetery. Cooper Funeral Home is directing arrangements.

Esther Grace Key
Former Chandler resident Esther Grace Key, 86, died Friday, April 1, in Sedwick, Kan.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Friends Church in Chandler with Bruce Newby, Homer Smuck and David Robinson officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Park Cemetery in Chandler.

Parks Brothers Funeral Service of Chandler is directing arrangements.

Brenda Joyce Banks
Lifelong Shawnee resident Brenda Joyce Banks, 61, died Wednesday, March 30, in Oklahoma City.

She was born July 23, 1943, in Shawnee to Alvin and Mary Jackson. She graduated from Shawnee High School in 1961.

She was married March 11, 1963, to Cardell Lee Banks in Shawnee. She was a homemaker and member of Cedar Street Church of Christ in Wewoka, where she taught Sunday school and helped with the ladies' seminar and "Second Sunday" meals.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, James Curtis.

Survivors include her husband, Cardell Banks of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Maury and Audrey Banks of Broken Arrow, Maurick and Stella Banks of Shawnee and Mauren and Leslie Banks of Broken Arrow; Cardell's siblings who she helped raise, David, Delphia and Danny Smith; eight grandchildren,Amber, Adam, Cassandra, Anthony, Brandon and Denzel Banks and Taylor and Corey Smith; five sisters and three brothers and their spouses, Vivian White, Verda Mae and Roy Massey, Vera Myers, Gladys Jackson, Melvin and Mary Jackson, Maurice Jackson, all of Oklahoma City; Hattie Jackson of Columbus, Ohio; Ervin and Melinda Jackson of Muscle Shoals, Ala.; stepmother, Thelma Jackson of Shawnee, seven stepsiblings and many other relatives.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Central Church of Christ in Shawnee. Walker Funeral Service is directing arrangements.

J.C. Yates
Shawnee resident J.C. Yates, 76, died Thursday, March 31, in Shawnee.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Silo Cemetery with Michael Bradley officiating.

Viewing will be Monday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Cooper Funeral Home.
