Edward Lee Adams
Eufaula resident Edward Lee Adams, 74, passed away Thursday, July 7, at the Muskogee Regional Medical Center.

He was born April 28, 1931, in Ada to Clarence Edward and Ola Mae (Parks) Adams.

Adams graduated from Vamoosa High School.

On Dec. 19, 1952, he married Loretta Pauline Knight in Konawa. They had two daughters, Melba and Lee Ann. Loretta preceded him in death Feb. 7, 2000. Edward then married Lucille Scott Feb. 8, 2001, in Eufaula.

Edward was a colonel in the U. S. Army Reserves and the Oklahoma National Guard. He was a veteran of the Korean War. While in the service, Edward was an industrial arts teacher.

Also preceding him in death is his parents and sister, Ren Ruth Sharver.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille, of the home; daughters, Melba Bryant of Eufaula, Lee Ann Harrelson and her husband, Bob, of Shawnee; grandchildren, Kameron Cole, Annie Harrelson, Merry and Nigel Rampergash; great-grandson, Ethan; stepson, Lee Roy Lane and his wife, Becky, of Lenna; stepdaughter, Judy Polson and her husband, Jack, of Eufaula; granddaughters, Emily Polson and Dalina Lane; grandson, Josh Lane and his wife, Tanika; great-granddaughter, Hallie Lane.

Service was 10 a.m. Monday at North Fork Baptist Church with the Rev. Bruce Sanders officiating. Graveside service was 2 p.m. Monday at Vamoosa Cemetery, Konawa, under the direction of Hunn, Black & Merritt Funeral Home.

Betty Lou (Nelson) Cox Hamby
Former Shawnee resident Betty Lou (Nelson) Cox Hamby, 70, died Saturday, July 9, in Fort Worth, Texas.

She was born July 28, 1934, in Wellston to Freeman R. Nelson and Vernal M. (Christy) Nelson.

Betty attended school in Shawnee. She has lived in Granbury, Texas, since 1980 and was married to Russ Hamby.

She was a member of the Church of Christ and a honorary member of the Tecumseh Hattitudes Red Hat Society.

Preceding her in death is her parents and three sisters, Verneta Hays, Veldean Grainger and Norma Jean Nichols; husbands, Darrell Bostick and James Herbert Cox.

Survivors include her husband, Russ Hamby of the home; daughters, Cynthia and Harold Hall of Oklahoma City, Debra Warner of Dublin, Texas, Kathy Lane of Shawnee, Jamie Westland of Durant; son, James and Annette Cox of Helena, Mon.; 14 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and George Martin of Tecumseh; niece, Dottie Null of Memphis, Tenn.; nephew, Randall and Leslie Martin of Ada; great-niece; two great-nephews and many friends.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fairview Cemetery with Bob Anderson officiating. Services are under the direction of Wiley Funeral Home of Granbury, Texas.

Howard Arthur Poe
Lifelong Pottawatomie County resident Howard Arthur Poe, 88, died Monday, July 11, in Shawnee.

He was born May 9, 1917, in Pottawatomie County to Robert Poe and Cora E. (Cox) Poe.

On July 1, 1939, he married Lucille Curtis in Earlsboro.

Mr. Poe was a farmer, rancher and truck driver. He was an active member of Fairview Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Mary Eula Poe; wife, Lucille; sister, Dorothy Zula, and two stepbrothers, Orville and Sam Evans.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Curtis Don and Karen Poe of Shawnee; grandson and wife, Curtis Dean and Tracey Poe of Shawnee; three great-grandchildren, Katelyn Dawn, Caleb Dalton and Cory Daniel; five brothers-in-law, Raymond and May Curtis of Elephant Butte, N.M., Roy and Ruby Curtis of Shawnee, Kenneth and Edith Curtis of Tecumseh, Wilbur and Hilda Curtis of Fort Worth, Texas, Darrell and Shirley Curtis of Shawnee; numerous other family and friends.

Service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Resthaven Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Claude Chambers and Junior Mize officiating. Services are under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

Michael C. Harman
Former Oklahoma City resident Michael C. Harman, 60, died Tuesday, July 5, at his home in San Marcos, Calif., after a long battle with renal cell carcinoma.

He was born Jan. 31, 1945, in Hays, Kan., to Jewell and Viola Harman.

Mike moved to Tecumseh at a young age and graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1963. He graduated from East Central University in 1967.

He was manager for SW Bell in Lawton, Oklahoma City and Enid. After leaving Bell in 1978, he moved to California.

Survivors include his longtime companion, Lois Matz and her family and grandson, Dominic; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Jack Taylor; nephew, Rick Dinger; nieces and their spouses, Shelley and Jim Roberts, Teresa and David Daugherty, all of Oklahoma City; six great-nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be 3 p.m. Monday at Guardian West Chapel. Services are under the direction of Guardian West Funeral Home, Oklahoma City.

Jo Smart
With her family by her side, Jo Smart died peacefully on Tuesday, July 12.

Her enthusiasm for life and joy in living each day remained with her even during the past few months as she succumbed to cancer.

Jo was born May 25, 1927, to Vivian and Grady Nelms in Wewoka.

She married Jearl Smart in 1949 and remained in Wewoka to raise four children.

A graduate of Wewoka High School, she attended college until her marriage and returned to receive a bachelor's degree from the University of Oklahama at the age of 59.

Jo was an avid supporter of Wewoka and Seminole County as well as a devoted community servant and enthusiastic club member. She served as board member to the Wewoka Library, Seminole Nation Museum, Jasmine Moran Children's Museum, Oklahoma Heritage Association and Seminole State College. Jo was a founding member of the Carnation Club in 1954, and held various offices in PEO, DAR and Athenaeum.

She was a lifetime member and Sunday School teacher at the First Baptist Church, a graduate of Mastering Gardening and special initiate of Chi Omega sorority.

Jo leaves behind close friends in the Second Monday Bridge Club, Wewoka Arts and Crafts Club, Cookie Club and Red Hat Society.

She will be missed by her theater loving friends who regularly attended the ballet, the symphony, plays and movies with her.

Jo received the Wewoka Chamber of Commerce's Distinguished Service Award 2004 and was the recipient of the 2005 Distinguished Alumni of Wewoka High School.

Jo chaired the Jo and Jearl Smart charitable foundation for the past 10 years. She gave numerous educational scholarships and grants of support to organizations in Seminole County and throughout the state of Oklahoma.

Jo is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jearl Smart; and sister, Billye Sharp.

Survivors include Jeary and Mike Seikel of Oklahoma City; John and Teresa Smart of Wewoka; Jim Smart and Vicki Radar of Wewoka; Julie and Brian Tibbs of Oklahoma City; eight adoring grandchildren, Emily and Matt Seikel, Jennifer, Jamie, Jill and Jack Smart, and Claire and Bonnie Tibbs. A community of friends also mourn her death.

Visitation will be held prior to service at Stout Funeral Home. Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of Wewoka. Burial will follow at Oak Wood Cemetery under the direction of Stout Funeral Home.

Kenneth (Tuck) Newby
Newalla resident Kenneth (Tuck) Newby, 77, died Monday, July 18, at a McLoud nursing home.

He was born Aug. 7, 1927, in McLoud to Dave and Grace Newby.

Newby grew up in the McLoud area attending McLoud schools and later joined the U.S. Marine Corps. He served four years including an overseas tour. After discharge from the Marines he went to work at Tinker Air Force Base and retired as an aircraft production section chief in 1982.

He married Ina Mae Abshire in 1949. He and Mrs. Newby were lifelong residents of Newalla.

Newby was a member of Newalla Rodeo and dedicated to his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren's activities.

He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, George, Jake and Dave Newby, and a sister, Evelene Barnett.

Survivors include his son, Mike Newby of Purcell; daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Monte Chancellor of Newalla; two sisters and brother-in-law, Dorothy Hudson of Oklahoma City, Gene and Shot Robinson of McLoud; four grandchildren, Lori, Monica, Cristi and Melissa; five great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the chapel of Walker Funeral Service with the Rev. Bill Derrick officiating. Burial will follow at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery in Newalla under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.

Dorothy W. Lonelodge
Dorothy W. Lonelodge, 89, died Friday, July 15, in Tulsa.

She was born April 13, 1916, in Horton, Kan., to Bill Whitewater and Ethel Whitewater.

On June 6, 1936, she married Eddie E. Lonelodge in Shawnee. He preceded her in death in 1998.

She worked as a nurse at St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Oklahoma City, Indian Hill Club, Star Hawk Society Cheyenne-Arapaho.

Dorothy enjoyed sewing shirts and shawls.

Also preceding her in death are her parents and one son, Wayne Lonelodge.

Survivors include her son, Charles Edward Lonelodge Sr. of Shawnee; two daughters and sons-in-law, Ethel Deanie and Billy Rodrick of Asher, Loretta and Kirk Dale of Tulsa; 15 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, George Whitewater of Kansas City, Kan.

Wake service will be 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. today at Resthaven Funeral Chapel. Service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Resthaven Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
