Perkins

Funeral service for Robert L. Perkins, age 82, retired fire chief, of Frederick, now of Berryville, Ark., will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003, at the Burkhardt Chapel in the Frederick Memorial Cemetery with Rev. David Kline, pastor of the Valley View Baptist Church, in Eureka Springs, Ark., officiating.

Perkins died, Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003, in Berryville, Ark. Burial will be under the direction of Gray Gish Funeral Home in Frederick.

Robert was born on April 12, 1921, in Wichita Falls, Texas, to Leonard & Sally (Holly) Cook. He graduated from Frederick High School in 1939. He was World War II Veteran, where he served in the United State Air Force, from 1941- 1945. He married Trudi Hall on June 7, 1942, in Frederick. He worked at many different positions for the city of Frederick, but retired as fire chief for the Frederick Fire Department. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents, step brother: Johnny Cook. He is survived by son: Robert L. Perkins, Jr., and his wife, of Eureka Springs, Ark.; and two daughters: Merle Hollie Neugebauer, and her husband, Dennis; and Merry Helen Moiser, both of Waurika; seven grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.

Brownlow

Helen Maxine Brownlow, 84, of Chandler, Texas, formerly of Eldorado, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003 in Tyler, Texas. Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003 at the Eldorado Cemetery with Bill Osborne officiating under the direction of the Chandler Memorial Funeral Home. Kincannon Funeral Home is coordinating local arrangements.

Helen was born Jan. 11, 1919 in Eldorado to Fred Thomas and Maud (Cazell) Hill. She married the late Harold Brownlow. They farmed in the Eldorado area and also owned and operated the Sooner Boat Company. She worked tirelessly as a homemaker and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Eldorado.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Harold Brownlow. She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Hughes of Chandler, Texas; her son, Gail Lynn Brownlow of Buda, Texas; four grandchildren, Kent Hughes, Cary Hughes, Angie Hughes and Jermy Brownlow, and six great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Eldorado Church of Christ.

Long

Clarence "Ray' Raymond Long Jr., 64 of Altus died Dec. 11, 2003. Services will be held at a later date in Ada. Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in Altus is in charge of the arrangements.

Ray was born April 12, 1939 in Ardmore to parents Clarence Raymond Long Sr. and Georgia Brown Long. Ray was a veteran of the United States Air Force and was a gifted carpenter.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A register book at the funeral home will be available to sign on Monday thru Wednesday, 8 a.m. to

Ledbetter

T.L. Ledbetter, age 76, of Altus, passed away Dec. 13, 2003. Arrangements are pending with Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.

Stepp

Former Altus resident Zelda Stepp, died peacefully in God's arms on Dec. 4, 2003 from cancer. She leaves her husband of 53 years, and her four children: Lynda (rebecca), Michael, Keith and Annette. Grandchildren: Rachel, Megan, Daniel and Dale. Great grandchild: Ayla.

She was born April 20, 1934 in Tyler, Texas. She was a great mom, ever supportive of her kids no matter how good or bad they were. Zelda and Bill raised hogs for many years in Missouri and Arkansas before retiring to California in 1994. Zelda had many friends and extended family that loved her and will miss her deeply. Services were held at 10 a.m. Dec. 8, 2003 at East Lawn Mortuary, 5757 Greenback Lane, Sacramento, Calif. The family requests that any donation be made to the American Lung association or to the American Cancer Society.

Smith

Dollie Marie (Boling) Smith died at her home on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003.

She was born on July 24, 1924 in Mangum to William and Ellen (Fred) Boling. Dollie graduated from Mangum High School in 1943. After graduation Dollie attended PBX school and was an operator in Mesa, Texas and California for a short time.

Dollie married Edward Guy Smith of Willow on Aug. 10, 1948 in Oklahoma City. She was a loving wife and mother and wonderful homemaker all her married life. She enjoyed sewing and teaching her daughters how to cook and sew. Dollie helped on the farm until she became ill in 1968.

She was also a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Willow. Dollie was preceded in death by her parents and brothers: John, Ray, Joe, Clarence and Bill Boling.

She is survived by her husband Guy of the home in Willow; two daughters, Guyla M. Carnes and her husband, Stan, of Duncan, and Janet D. Smith and her husband, Jay Hayes, of Lone Grove; one grandson, Brett Carnes, of Duncan; two brothers, Floyd Boling and Roy Boling, both of Altus; and a sister, Lillie Mae Wrinkle, of Colorado Springs, Colo.

A service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, at the Baptist Church in Willow, with the Rev. Arol Steverson officiating. Interment will be in Willow Cemetery in Willow.

Family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Greer Funeral Home.

Arrangements are with Greer Funeral Home in Mangum.

Long

Clarence R. Long died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003, in Altus. Services pending with Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

Dickson

Martha Lou Dickson, 91, of San Angelo, Texas died Dec. 6, 2003 in San Angelo. Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday Dec. 11, 2003 at the First Christian Church with Rev. Ben Hubert officiating. Interment will follow at Fairmount Cemetery. Martha Lou was born Aug. 14, 1912 in Marshall, Texas to her parents Robert L. and Lillie Hix Forston. She grew up in Marshall, Texas and Graduated from Marshall High School, the College Of Marshall with honors in 1931 and from Baylor University cum laude in 1933 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. While attending Baylor University she was a member of the Alpha Omega Social Sorority and Kappa Delta Pi and Sigma Tau Delta honorary fraternities. Martha Lou was also the curator of the Browning Collection the largest in the world and also graded for the head of the English Department, Dr. A.J. Armstrong.

After graduating she taught three years in the Elysian Fields High School where she achieved affiliation in English IV with the State Department of Education. She also taught for three years in Pine Tree High Schools where she also achieved the same affiliation. On June 1, 1939 Martha Lou married Bryan Dickson, the superintendent of Marshall Schools. While raising her children Martha Lou served the community in a number of capacities. She was member of the first Grand Jury of Tom Green County that allowed women on it; a member of the Civic Theater Board, the Girl Scout Board, the first United Way Board in San Angelo as head of the women's division, an honorary member of the Delta Kappa Gamma, honorary education fraternity, the board for Rio Concho Manor at its inception for three terms, Past President for two years of the 32 Study Club, past President of AAUW, Federated Women's Clubs, Teacher of the Henson Sunday School Class at First Christian Church for 50 years, "Mother of the Year" for the church in 1963, a member of P.E.O. and DAR, deacon at the First Christian Church for 10 years, an elder for the church for eight years and was a book reviewer and also spoke publicly for many clubs and organizations including the Rotary Club of San Angelo as head of women's activities for the district meeting in San Angelo. Martha Lou also taught for one year at San Angelo Business College, two years at San Angelo College and 14 years for San Angelo Central High School from which she retired. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 50 years Bryan Dickson, one daughter Mary Catherine Cheek and one sister Rebecca Fitch. She is survived by her loving family: Daughter and Son-in-law: Elsie and Ed Rankin, of Ft. Worth, Daughter and Son-in-law: Jeanne and Lawrence Wilson, of San Angelo; Daughter and Son-in-law: Allene and Charles Martin, of Altus; grandchildren, Cathy Ann Walger of Scotland, Wendell Cheek of Salt Lake City, Cynthia Cheek of Casper Wyo., Debbie Cheek Price of Casper, Wyo., Carl Cheek of Fort Worth, Texas, Jerry Rankin, of Charleston, S.C., Dick Rankin of Arlington, Texas, George Rankin of Fort Worth, Texas, Ron Wilson, of Lake Worth, Fl., Kelley Millican, of San Angelo, Martha Kimberly Nootbaar of Frisco, Texas, Patti Lamle of Cache and Jenifer Siemens, of Anniston, Ala.; 19 great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, one niece, Becky Lou Rowe, of Sanger and one great niece, Mindy Yates of Watauga, Texas.

There will be a family visitation from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003 at Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church in San Angelo, Texas.

Neal

Tessie Mae Neal, 93, of Altus, passed away Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003, at Plantation Village Nursing Home.

She was born March 2, 1910, in Hopkins County, Texas to John Thomas and Jennie Victoria (Crocker) Tillery. She married Charlie Pratt Neal Nov. 1, 1928, in Hobart. She and her husband lived and farmed in the Jackson Country area for a number of years. When her children left home, her husband, Pratt, thought about buying another pickup. "Don't buy another pickup," Tessie advised. "Buy another tractor!" And with that, she became a full time partner in their farming enterprises.

Tessie was very active physically. She started going to the swimming pool at Western Oklahoma State College in 1979 and was a regular four times a week with few absences. At 92, she said she didn't know if she would still be walking if she hadn't taken those classes for so many years.

She was not only a mother to her own children, but she mothered her grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as others who loved her dearly.

She loved to shop and drive her little red car until the age of 90. Tessie was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church and for the last three years attended the First Baptist Church in Altus with her daughter.

Tessie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Pratt, Sept. 1, 1994; an infant son who died at the age of 11 months; two sisters and two brothers.

She is survived by daughter Lois Brazell and husband James of Altus and their children: James Neal Brazell and wife Cathy of Norman, Randy Pratt Brazell and wife Marci of Seattle, and Jeffrey Scott Brazell and wife Irasema of Oklahoma City; Lois and James' grandchildren: Helen Brazell, Amber Schacter, Amanda Brazell, Jessica Brazell, James Dale Brazell II, Quinton Brazell, and Marli Brazell.

She is also survived by daughter Patsy Rivera and husband Oscar of Altus and their children: Susan Caldwell and husband Thomas of Paris, Texas, and H. Bennett Talley and wife April of Yukon; Patsy and Oscars' grandchildren: Thomas Ray Caldwell III, Taylor Rene Caldwell, Tobey Talley, Tanner Talley, Logan Talley, and Tara Talley. Five great great grandchildren also survive.

A family visitation for Tessie Neal will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9 at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Madison Clinton officiating. Interment will follow at Altus Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

Lee

Ester May Lee, age 80 years and 16 days, passed away at Mangum City Hospital early Sunday morning on Dec. 7, 2003.

Ester had lived most of her lifetime in the Mangum area. She was born on Nov. 21, 1923 in Platter. Her parents were William Robert and Angelina (Allgood) Henson. She moved to Mangum with her parents in 1940. She married Jesse Lee on Feb. 2, 1973 in Wellington, Texas. Ester worked at a restaurant as a cook and waitress during her working lifetime. She was a kind and loving person and a member of Trinity Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one brother, Alva Lee Henson; and four sisters, Myrtle Ainsworth, Pauline Sanders, Alline Henson, and Lois Goucher.

Ester is survived by brothers William Henson of Gracemont and Chuck Henson of Midwest City; sisters Ann Dorsey of Hobart, Margrett Groseclose of Verden, and Dolly Oleta Shoopman of Oklahoma City; aunts Thelma Allgood Fennell of Fort Worth, Texas and Lazell Dillahunty of Mangum; an uncle, Fred Dillahunty of Mangum; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 8, 2003 at Greer Funeral Home in Mangum, where the family will greet friends. A service will be held for Ester May Lee at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9 at the Trinity Baptist Church in Mangum. Officiating will be the Rev. Dava Moore. Interment will be in Willow Cemetery in Willow.

Arrangements are with Greer Funeral Home in Mangum.

Rolston

John T. Rolston, 76, of Choctaw died Tuesday. He was born in Weleetka to Butler and Kate Rolston. He served in the Army during World War II. He is survived by his wife Venita Rolston of Choctaw; one daughter Jeannie Huber and husband Dick of Altus; two step children Carol Jones of Poteau and Johnnie Jones of Choctaw; two granddaughters Tammi Walbeck and husband Mark and PJ Boucher, all of Altus; two grandsons John Rolston and Donald Rolston and wife Heather, all of St. Louis, Mo.; four great grandchildren Cody and Kristi Walbeck and Dusty and Nina Boucher, all of Altus; and many other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Charles (Chuck) Rolston of Altus and one step son David Jones of Midwest City.

Services are pending at Noble Funeral Home in Noble.

Massey

Seleeta V. (Kelso) Massey, 69, of San Antonio, Texas died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003. We will miss your sense of humor and your strength of character. You were one of the bravest people we ever knew and we love you very much. She is preceded in death by husband, William H. Massey; parents, Herbert and Louise Kelso. She is survived by her son, Jovey Massey and wife, Patty of San Antonio, Texas; daughters, Trina Massey of Castroville, Texas, Seleeta Massey of Reno, Nev.; grandchildren, Skylar, Starlyn, Chris, Arlene, Felicia, McKynna, Devon, Dylan; great grandchildren, Oceanna, Angelique; sister, Virginia Dean of San Antonio, Texas

Graveside services are set for 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, 2003 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.

Clanton

Allen Clanton, 46, died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Services pending at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

Ayers

Nolan Harold Ayers, 68, of Roosevelt died at the Integris Baptist Hospital Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003. Graveside services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Roosevelt Cemetery officiated by the Rev. Jean Law.

Arrangements are with Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. Ayers will lie in state at Hackney-Gish Funeral Home in Hobart until service time.

Ayers was born Feb. 14, 1935 in the Consolidated-8 community near Roosevelt and was the son of A.D. (Bud) and Nettie Glee Ayers. He married Julia Ann Law June 17, 1960 in Roosevelt. He was a construction Foreman at Alltel for 34 years before retiring in 1993. Nolan served in the United States Army as well as the Army Reserve.

Survivors include his wife, Julia, of the home; one son, Neal Ayers and his wife, Kristi, of Dill City; one daughter, Sherry Downen and her husband, Jerry, of Roosevelt. Two sisters, Carol Hunn and her husband, Jake, of Hobart and Charlene Maxwell and her husband, Bill, of Midwest City; six grandchildren, Kyle, Laira, Jordan, Lindsay, Jennifer and Jerry Lynn. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Dawayne and Bill.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation Alzheimer's Division.

Abernathy

Velma Abernathy was born Oct. 30, 1910 at Carlsbad, N.M. She was the daughter of the late Charles O. and Lilly (Rogers) Abernathy. She died Nov. 23, 2003 in Altus.

Velma grew in the Ozark Community where she graduated from Ozark High School. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Altus where she taught a Sunday School class. She worked at the County Court House for many years where she was a Secretary. She also worked for the Bill Luderson Agency and for Gregg Buck and Roberson Agency. She was an original member of the ABWA.

Survivors include: a brother, Charles Abernathy and wife, Mary, of Altus and a host of nieces and nephews and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Raymond, Dan and Roger Abernathy and three sisters, Mae Gates, Freda Holloway and Mildred Rowlett.

Services for Velma Abernathy are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003 at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home with Dr. Jeff Moore officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
