Shawnee resident Marvin Walker, 85, died Tuesday, March 1, at his residence.

Tribal rites will be held Thursday night at the Walker home, 5801 N. Harrison. Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Wakolee Cemetery.

Walker Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Charles "Gene" Bussey
Longtime Maud resident Charles Bussey, 60, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, in McAlester.

Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Cummings Cemetery with the Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating.

Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home is directing arrangements.

William D. Parton
Anadarko resident William D. Parton, 67, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, in Oklahoma City.

Service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Anadarko. Burial will follow at Parton Family Cemetery in Anadarko.

Smith Funeral Home in Anadarko is directing arrangements.

Lucille M. Houin Valeton
Former Shawnee resident Lucille M. Houin Valeton of Metairie, La., 88, died Sunday, Feb. 20, in Metairie.

On Aug. 27, 1916, she was born in New Orleans, La., the daughter of Carmen Raymond and Henry L. Houin.

On April 29, 1939, she married Harold T. Valeton. He preceded her in death April 27, 1994.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Carmen Houin and Gloria Sandoz; and two sisters-in-law, Bertha and Dotty Valeton.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Ellen and William Martin of Shawnee, Barbara Helm of Kenner, La., and Charlotte and James Robertson of Metairie; 12 grandchildren and their spouses, Michael and Rina, Mark and Katie, Matthew and Sheila Martin, Ronald Jr. and Lisa, Joseph and Stacy Helm, Kelly and Keith Meyn, Kim and Brian Bowes and Kristy and Brent Starring, Jennifer and Charles Sumrall, Charles and Christina, James and Christopher Robertson; brother, Henry L. Houin Jr.; sister, Helen D'Amico; 19 great-grandchildren, three stepgreat-grandchildren; one stepgreat-great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Service was held Feb. 24 at Our Lady of Divine Providence Church, Metairie, with burial at St. Louis Cemetery No. 3, New Orleans, La.

Marjorie C. Davis
Longtime Seminole resident Marjorie C. Davis, 83, died Saturday, Feb. 26, in Seminole.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Maple Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Gary Wilburn officiating.

Swearingen Funeral Home is directing arrangements.

Robert Carl Warden
Prague resident Robert Carl "Short" Warden, 85, died Saturday, Feb. 26, at his home south of Prague.

He was born Jan. 4, 1920, west of Paden to Dan and Ora (Baize) Warden. He attended Garden Grove school.

At 13, he quit school to farm with his father during the depression. In 1939, he joined the Civilian Concentration Corp and worked in a camp near Yuma, Ariz., building trails which are still in existence today in the Grand Canyon National Park.

Warden joined the U.S. Army in October 1941, serving in the Army Air Corps in St. Louis, Mo., Greensboro, N.C., and Panama City, Panama.

On Oct. 31, 1942, he married Katherene Suggs at her parents' home in Paden.

He was discharged from the Army in December 1945. He bought the family farm in January 1948 and remained there 57 years. He was a farmer, oil field worker, plumber, water well driller and a school custodian.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years in 1997; his parents and twin brothers, who died as infants in 1918.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Marty Warden of Shawnee; one daughter and son-in-law, Jenny and Jerry Pratka of Prague; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Alfred and Sibble Warden of Shawnee, Raymond and Billie Warden of Eufaula and Russell and Shirley Warden of Muskogee; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Hazel Muzny of Oklahoma City, Ida Molander of Oklahoma City and Barbara and Dean Lane of Seminole; six grandchildren and spouses, Rob and Pattie Warden of Florissant, Mo., Jason and Angie Winchester of Luther, April and Carey Humphrey of Shawnee, Rob and Heather Winchester of Prague, Josh and Carrie Pratka of Prague and Marria and Doug Brydon of Mesquite, Texas; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. today at Little Church of Christ with Rusty Dawson officiating. Burial will follow at Prague Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague.

Fred Bertram
Shawnee resident Fred Bertram, 82, died Saturday, Feb. 26, at a local hospital.

He was born March 29, 1922, in Guthrie to Maxwell and Mary (Ballsinger) Bertram.

He attended Guthrie schools.

Bertram was married to Gladys Mickleson for 54 years. She preceded him in death Dec. 1, 2004.

He was an oil field worker for Gearhart Industries Inc. He also was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Max and Julia Bertram, Steve and Sherry Bertram and Mike and Anita Bertram, all of Shawnee; six grandchildren, Joshua Bertram, Chris Bertram, Isaac Bertram, Amanda Bertram, Christene Bertram and Ryan Sheppard; one great grandchild.

Service will be 10 a.m. today at Walker Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Lewis Walters officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.

Virginia Sue Williams
Tecumseh resident Virginia Sue Williams, 65, died Monday, Feb. 28, in Shawnee.

She was born June 6, 1939, to Omer V. Williams and Susan Katie (Leeper) Williams.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Marie Thompson and Pauline Means; two brothers, Donald and Vester Williams; and two brothers-in-law, Charles Means and Bob Crouch.

Survivors include brother and sister-in-law, Orval and Marie Williams of La Habra, Calif.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathryn Crouch of Shawnee, Wanda and Foy Pitman of Williston, N.D., Ruth and Milo Garver of San Diego, Calif., and Martha and Jack French of Tecumseh; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Resthaven Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Paul Zahler officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Resthaven Funeral Home is directing arrangements.

Janice Lynn Trammell
Tecumseh resident Janice Lynn Smith Trammell, 58, died Monday, Feb. 28, in Shawnee.

She was born April 19, 1946, in Cameron County, Texas, to J.D. Smith Jr. and Maxine (Britt) Smith.

She graduated from Shawnee High School in 1965. She attended Shawnee School of Cosmetology. She later attended Gordon Cooper Technology Center, where she received her practical nursing degree.

She worked as an LPN for the last 36 years.

She volunteered with the Tecumseh Roundup Club for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Paula Michelle Smith; and daughter, Margaret Maxine James.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Shelly and Larry Scott of Tecumseh; son, Jay Malone of McLoud; three granddaughters, Megan Maxine Hackney, Danielle Nicole Lantz and Hannah Mae Malone; brother and sister-in-law, Dee and Karen Smith of Kingston; sister and brother-in-law, Debbie and Larry Scott of Moyers; five nephews; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with Wayne Bryant and Tracy Bryant officiating.

Cooper Funeral Home is directing arrangements.

Betty Foster Cronin
Stroud resident Betty Foster Cronin, 80, died Monday, Feb. 28, in Chandler.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Stroud Cemetery with the Rev. Doyle Seeley officiating.

Parks Brothers Funeral Service is directing arrangements.

Doyle E. Smith
Longtime Shawnee resident Doyle E. Smith, 88, died Monday, March 14, in Shawnee.

He was born Jan. 1, 1917, in Chandler to Franklin Dewey Smith and Effie Key-Smith.

He attended Dale schools.

On Dec. 28, 1939, he married Addie Mae Watson in Tecumseh. He owned and operated Doyle's Service Station, on the corner of Broadway and Highland, for 30 years.

Smith was a longtime member of Liberty Baptist Church, and he was a member of the Masonic Lodge for more than 50 years, including Shawnee Composite Lodge No. 107, the McAlester Consistory and India Shrine of Oklahoma City. He also was a member of Shawnee American Legion Post No. 16 for more than 50 years.

He served with the U.S. Army Air Corps (now the U.S. Air Force) during World War II for 43 months.

Smith was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers and sisters, Loyal Smith, Alpha Rowan and Ernest Lee Smith.

Surviving relatives include brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Harold and Dean Watson of Tecumseh, Violet Watson of Shawnee, Jackie Watson of Wetumka and Kozelhua and Heborn Young of Modesto, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews, including L.C. Smith and Eva Lee Smith of Kerrville, Texas, and Alpha M. Ledgerwood and Ronnie of Lubbock, Texas.

Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Liberty Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Matthews and the Rev. Phil Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery in Shawnee.

Arrangements are under the direction of Gaskill Funeral Home.
