Luther O'Neal Hughes
Shawnee resident Luther O'Neal Hughes, 82, died Tuesday, April 19, at his home.

He was born March 10, 1923, in Hominy to Luke Henry Hughes and Berie Ann Wheeler-Hughes.

Hughes was reared in southern Oklahoma and graduated from Wilson High School. He joined the Army Air Corps in 1943 and served until 1945. During World War II, he was a crewman onboard a bomber that lost an engine and was forced to land in Switzerland. He was instantly taken prisoner and lived as a POW for 18 months.

On Aug. 27, 1949, he married Marie Theola Harvey in Gainesville, Texas.

Hughes retired from Oklahoma Natural Gas after 36 years. His job took him and his family from Ardmore to Wetumka and then to Shawnee in 1976.

He was a member of University Baptist Church where he served as deacon. He also was a member of the American Legion Post No. 16 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1317 in Shawnee.

Hughes is survived by his wife, Marie Hughes, of the home; son, Johnny Boyd Johnson and his wife, Penny, of Alpharetta, Ga.; two daughters, Patricia Ann Johnson and her husband, Fred Williams, of Jenks, Debrah Yvonne Walter and her husband, Don Walter, of Little Rock, Ark.; two sisters, Marcella Bohannon of Del City, Lee Ola Heath of Oxnard Calif.; eight grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.

Formal visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Gaskill Funeral Chapel.

Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at University Baptist Church with full military honors provided by the Disabled American Veterans Chapter No. 85 of Oklahoma City. The Rev. Bob Searl will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Greg Cullison, Craig Walker, Michael Cappo, Joe Hall, John McCulloch, Craig Ward and Larry Walker.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Heartland Hospice, 3700 N. Kickapoo. Shawnee.

Louis Monroe Pettyjohn
Shawnee resident Louis Monroe Pettyjohn, 93, died Thursday, April 21, at a local nursing home.

He was born Nov. 7, 1911, in Talco, Texas. He lived most of his life in Shawnee.

Pettyjohn served in the U.S. Army at Fitzsimmons Army Base in Denver, Colo. After he moved to Shawnee in 1945, he was a bus driver for the city of Shawnee. He later retired from Tinker Air Force Base after 27 years. After retiring, he worked for Western Christian University in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. He also delivered "Meals on Wheels" to the elderly when he was 85 years young. Monroe was a founding member of the Northridge Church of Christ. He also had been a teacher of the gospel at many small Church of Christ congregations in Earlsboro, Maud, Meeker, Little, Saint Louis and Prague. He was active in numerous mission efforts throughout the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Stella (Curtis) and Charles Pettyjohn; two brothers, Vertis and Hubert Pettyjohn; three sisters, Ethel Boucher, Virgie Boyles and Mae Mills; his beautiful wife of almost 65 years, Barbara Pettyjohn on July 21, 2002.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Cathy Pettyjohn of Shawnee, Robert and Marty Pettyjohn of Shawnee and Paul and Pam Pettyjohn of Sand Springs; one daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Bill Stephenson of Bellmont, N.C.; four granddaughters, Misty and Mike Martin of McLoud, Tiffini and Kirk McLeod of Olathe, Kan., Whitney and Chelsey Pettyjohn of Sand Springs; three grandsons, Monty and Diana Pettyjohn of Plano, Texas, Stacey Pettyjohn of Sherwood Ark., and Travis and Andrea Pettyjohn of Fort Smith, Ark.; nine great grandchildren, Cynthia Pettyjohn of Prague, Austin and Tate Pettyjohn of Plano, Texas, Afton and Branson Martin of Choctaw, Trent and Trevor Pettyjohn of Fort Smith, Ark., Miles McLeod of Olathe, Kan., and Zach and Jake Russenberger of Sherwood, Ark.

Service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Northridge Church of Christ. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Walker Funeral Service of Shawnee.

Lorretta Marie Wade
Lorretta Marie, 66, of Macomb passed away from this life Monday, April 18, at her home in Macomb.

Lorretta was born May 11, 1938, in Anadarko to Frank and Clara (Bedorka) Exendine.

She married Edwin Wilson in 1955 in Russellville, Ark. To this union was born four children. On May 26, 1978, Lorretta married Wayland Wade in Oklahoma City. To this union was born one son. Lorretta loved her family and children were her life.

For the past 10 years, Lorretta had spent a lot of her time as a wildlife rehabilitator. She was an avid bowler and loved to sew. She was a member of the Delaware Tribe. Lorretta will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Lorretta was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and one sister.

She is survived by her husband, Wayland "Bud," of the home; two sons, Ed Wilson of Lawrenceville, Ill.; Wayland C. Wade II of Kansas City, Mo.; three daughters, Mary Beth Thomason of Hinton; Beverly Garrison of Hinton; Traci Hardy of Midwest City; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many loving friends.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. today at Romulus Baptist Church in Macomb with Darrell Witten officiating. Burial will follow 3 p.m. at Memory Lane Cemetery in Anadarko under the direction of Smith Funeral Home of Anadarko.

Dean D. Bratcher
Dean D. Bratcher, 77, of Noble, died March 28, 2005 at home. Funeral services will be 2PM Thursday March 31, 2005 at Guardian-Norman Funeral Home with burial to follow at Noble I.O.O.F. Cemetery. A visitation will be held Wednesday from 5PM to 8PM. Guardian-Norman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Dean was born June 15, 1927 in Tribbey, Oklahoma to Lige and Ida (Ginn) Bratcher as the second of ten children. He graduated from Tribbey High School. He served honorably in the US NAVY aboard the USS Ganter. He graduated from Oklahoma State University and was an avid Cowboys fan. He married Zelma McKiddy in Gainesville, Texas on September 2, 1949 and they raised four children together. He retired from Materials Management with Tinker Air Force Base in 1982. Dean loved playing golf, fishing, singing, and ranching. He was a member of Etowah Baptist Church for over 45 years serving as Sunday School Teacher and Director and the Music Leader. He served on the Board of Directors of Oklahoma Electric Cooperative for 21 years and 8 years on the Board of Directors for Western Farmers Electric Cooperative. His grandchildren were extra special to him and each one felt like they were the most important one of all the grandchildren.

Dean is survived by his wife Zelma of the home; his two daughters Deanna Coventon and her husband Wayne of Oklahoma City and Retha Asklund and her husband Dan of Ada; his two sons Curt Bratcher and his wife Dianne of Moore and Kevin Bratcher of the home; his grandchildren Robyn Coventon of Moore, Ryan Coventon of Oklahoma City, Mandy Bean and her husband Clint of Centerton, Arkansas, Missy Schubert and her husband Gary of Springdale, Arkansas, Blake and Daniel Bratcher of Moore; and one great granddaughter on the way; his brothers Harold Lloyd Bratcher of Midwest City, J.T. Bratcher of Lawton, Derrell Bratcher of Eufaula, and Larry Bratcher of Choctaw; his sister Lavon Parson of Tecumseh; and many nieces and nephews.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers Gordon Bratcher, Jerry Bratcher, Jim Bratcher, Jack Bratcher.

Franklin D. "Pete" Cast
Franklin D. "Pete" Cast, 75, of Salisbury and formerly of Snow Hill, died peacefully at home surrounded by his lived ones, Monday, March 28, 2005. Born in Acme, Oklahoma, he was the beloved son of the late Olin J. Cast and Henrietta McAllister Cast and step-mother, Oleta Smith Cast.

Mr. Cast retired as a quality control engineer with L.T.V. Aerospace and Defense at Wallops Flight Center, after 35 years service. He was a past member of the Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Helen Stone Cast of Salisbury; three children: Karen Cast Garner of Port Royal, VA, Doris Cast Glovier and her husband, George Glovier of Pocomoke and Robert D. Cast and his wife, Vanessa Budd Cast of Snow Hill; seven grandchildren: Christopher, Joseph, Bethany and Kara Garner, Jason and Emily Glovier and Brian Cast; six brothers and sisters: Ronald Cast, Rudy Cast, Phillip Cast, Marketa Cast McConnell, Lana Cast Anderson and Celia Cast Bryan; ten great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Cary Cast.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, March 31, 2005 at 2 PM at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Pocomoke City. The Rev. Gregory Powell and the Rev. Frederick Willis will officiate. Interment will be in First Baptist Cemetery in Pocomoke City.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Coastal Hospice, PO Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802

Arrangements are being handled by Holloway Melson Funeral, 103 Linden Avenue, Pocomoke City, MD 21851.

Wilbur Dean Moore
Tulsa resident Wilbur Dean "W.D." Moore, 75, died Wednesday, Mar. 30, in Tulsa.

He was born December 15, 1929, in Meeker to the late Clifton W. and Jewel Faye (Flowers) Moore.

He was an Air Force Veteran of the Korean War. He retired as a mechanic from McDonnell Douglas with 33 years of service. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and Shriner and a member of Daylight Lodge #542. He also was a member of the NRA and the ABATE Motorcycle Club.

Survivors include two sisters, Margaret Ann Yeager of Chandler and Delois Sackett of Oklahoma City; brother, Bob Moore of Oklahoma City, two nieces, Debbie Dickson and Rhonda Bruno; nephew Greg Yeager; four great nephews and a dear friend and companion, Eva Brown, and her children and grandchildren.

Service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Freeman Harris Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be 2 p.m. at New Hope Cemetery in Meeker under the direction of Freeman Harris Funeral Home of Tulsa.

Bessie Newell
Tecumseh resident Bessie Newell, 92, died Wednesday, Mar. 30, in Shawnee.

Family will receive friends 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Cooper Funeral Home.

Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Avoca Church of Christ with the Rev. D.W. "Red" Barnes officiating. Burial will be at Wanette Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Kathy Rene Ashcroft
Shawnee resident Kathy Rene Ashcroft, 40, died Tuesday, April 19, at her home.

She was born Aug. 19, 1964, in Hot Springs, Ark., to John W. and Mary Lee Thomas. She graduated from Bearden High School in Bearden, Ark.

On June 15, 1988, she married Craig Allan Ashcroft at the Atlanta Latter Day Saints Temple. She was a wife and mother and was a substitute teacher at the local school.

Kathy has a great love for teaching small children at Primary in church. She was very supportive of Craig and his being in the Guard.

Survivors include her husband, Craig Allan Ashcroft; son, Mitchell Ashcroft; daughter, Elizabeth Ashcroft; father, John W. Thomas and sister, Donna A. Finney.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. tonight.

Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Bishop Jason Murray. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Walker Funeral Service of Shawnee is directing arrangements.
