Davidson
Mona (Hunter) Davidson, of Gould, passed away Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003, in her home at the age of 77. She married Talmadge Davidson on Feb. 27, 1946 and they made their home and farmed in the Bethel Community for 57 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Myrtle Williams and Leatrice McLaughlin, and two brothers, Hestle Hunter and Herbert Hunter.
She is survived by her husband Talmadge of the home; one son, Terry Davidson of Gould; one daughter, Diane Basler and her husband Bob of Leedy; four grandchildren: Lindsey Davidson of Oklahoma City, Colby Davidson of Hollis, Joel Basler of Salt Lake City, Utah and Kristin Basler of Leedy; two sisters, Velma Thacker of Canyon Lake, Texas and Omega Groves of Hobart, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Services for Davidson will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, at the First Baptist Church of Gould with Reverend Ralph Chapman and Reverend Sid Lutts officiating. Interment
will follow at the Louis Cemetery southwest of Gould. Arrangements are under the direction of Patterson Greer Funeral Home in Hollis.
Mills
Opal Inell Mills, 77, died Nov. 22, 2003 at Harmon Memorial Hospital, Hollis. Graveside Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003 at Lone Cedar Cemetery, Mannsville. Services are under the direction of Stewart Funeral Service.
She was born Oct. 24, 1926 at Cedar Creek, Ark. to William Henry and Maudie Thelma Pittman. She married Paul Kenneth (Rabbit) Mills Nov. 7, 1953 at Gainesville, Texas. She was a seamstress and housewife, who loved to sew. She worked at Jo Kay's in Ardmore, sewing leather where she made vest and coats, then working at a pants factory. Mills loved going fishing, sewing for her family, watching the Price is Right and TBN, but mostly talking to her family about when she was growing up. She moved to Hollis in 1976.
Mills was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul on April 3, 2001; one son, Garland Lee Pittman; one brother, Omer Pittman; four sisters: Ruby Webb, Thelma Bailey, Hellen Huey and Levenia Pugh; one granddaughter, Peggy Pittman and one great granddaughter, Micheala Omega Bower.
She is survived by four children: Earl Ray Pittman and wife Cheryl, of Atoka, Kenneth Wayne Mills of Hollis, Sallie Ann Myers and husband Donnie of Hollis and Charlotte Robinson and husband Donald of Hollis; one brother, Nethel Pittman of Atoka; one sister, Wynema Pugh of Milburn; ten grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Davis
Sherman (Spider) Davis Jr., 73, Altus, died Friday, Nov. 21, 2003 at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003 in the Memorial Chapel at Kincannon Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Jackson officiating. Burial will follow services at the Atlus City Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home.
He was born July 10, 1930 in Earlsboro to Sherman and Willella (Briscoe) Davis. He attended school in Stillwater and later continued his education at Western Oklahoma State College. He married Ruby Lee Richards on June 15, 1950 in Altus. To this union five daughters and four sons were born. Davis served in the United States Army from 1948 to 1955. He worked as a Medical Supply Technician in the Civil Service at Altus Air Force Base from 1968 until his retirement in 1993. He was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church in Altus for several years. He also served his church as an ordained Deacon. In his retirement years he enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby Lee, of the home in Altus; five daughters: Loretta Veals and Lisa Davis, both of Altus, Arletha Davis and Carla Simpson, both of Dallas, Texas and Sonya Davis of Lawton; four sons: Eddie Davis, Galveston, Texas and Nathaniel, Joseph and Sherman Davis III, all of Altus; two brothers, Nathaniel Davis, Stockston, Calif. and Wilson Davis, Altus; 15 grandchildren; six great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
Abernathy
Velma Abernathy died Nov. 23, 2003 in Altus. Services are pending with Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
Slack
Funeral service for Edwin Hamill Slack, 86, of Frederick, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, at the First Baptist Church in Grandfield with the Rev. Vernon Floyd, pastor of Bible Baptist Church of Frederick officiating.
Slack died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. Burial will be at the Grandfield Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Gray Gish Funeral Home in Frederick.
The family will receive friends on Monday, Nov. 24, 2003 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Gray Gish Funeral Home in Frederick.
Edwin was born on Nov. 30, 1916, to Charles Hamilton and Lena (Hamill) Slack, in Grandfield. He attended schools at Fort Auger School and Grandfield High School, where he graduated. He attended Oklahoma A&M University. He was united in marriage to Marion Overton on Sept. 6, 1941, in Wichita Falls, Texas. He was a World War II Veteran, where he served in the Army Air Corps at Sheppard Field from Sept. 8, 1942 to Nov. 26, 1945. He was a successful farmer and rancher in Tillman County for more than 60 years. He was involved in many farming organizations, where he was also an Honorary FFA Chapter Farmer. He was a member of the Bible Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Virginia Bezzanna Slack Miller and Rhoda Faye Slack Kost; two grandchildren: Benjamin Lee Thornton and Sterling Charles Slack.
He is survived by his wife, Marion, of the home; son, Nevel Overton Slack and his wife, Lisa, of Milan, Mich.; daughter, Carol Ann Slack Cole of Wichita Falls, Texas; five grandchildren, Saylor Welter, and her husband, John, Jeff Thornton and his wife, Misty, Andy Thornton and his wife, Sandy, Shannon Thornton Padron and Aaron Slack and seven great grandchildren.

Ford
Heather R. Ford, 21, Olustee, died Nov. 20, 2003 at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Graveside funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24, 2003 at the Olustee Cemetery with Bill Osborne officiating. Services are under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home.
Ford was born Oct. 8, 1982 in Altus to Danny Bart and Linda (Ward) Ford. She attended Olustee schools. She loved her family, especially her nephew, Jason. She loved photography and taking pictures. She adored cats and referred to them as her children.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Jennifer Dawn Ford; her grandfather, Bill Ward and her aunt Debra Ward.
She is survived by her mother, Linda Ford of the home; her father, Danny Ford of Big Sandy, Texas; her sister, Melissa Von Wert of Altus; her grandmother, Joyce Ward of Olustee; her great grandmother, Jewel Ward of Olustee and her nephew, Jason Von Wert of Altus.
Guttierrez
Joshua Jermaine Gutierrez, infant son of Beatrice Rivera and Greg Gutierrez, died Nov. 19, 2003 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Graveside services were held at 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, 2003 at Fairmount Cemetery under the direction of Stewart Funeral Service.
Joshua was born Nov. 18, 2003 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his mother Beatrice Rivera and father Greg Gutierrez, both of Hollis; grandmother Rachel Rivera of Plainview, Texas; grandfather Manuel Rivera of Lovington, N.M.; grandmother Mary Hope Gutierrez of Hollis and grandfather Gregorio Gutierrez of Bryan, Texas.
Donnel
Funeral service for Dorothy Lorene Donnel, age 82, of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., formerly of Frederick, will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 24, 2003, at the Burhardt Chapel of the Frederick Memorial Cemetery with Chaplain Jim McGuire, Hospice of Lawton Area, officiating.
Burial is under the direction of Gray Gish Funeral Home, in Frederick.
Donnel died Nov. 18, 2003, peacefully in her daughter's home.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003, from 2 to 3 p.m.
Dorothy was born on April 2, 1921, to Roy & Iva (Perry) McKelvy, in Marlow. She moved to Manitou and then to Frederick in 1948. She owned and operated City Cafe and her children grew up working there. She was a very astute business woman. She made Lake Havasu her home seven years ago, after moving there from Gold Beach, Ore. She loved quilts, crafts, and going to yard sales. She loved people and never met a stranger.
She is survived by her beloved family, son, David Lee Key, and his wife, Pat, of Banning, Calif.; three daughters, Geri Leipart, and her husband, Charles, of Lake Havasu, Ariz.; Peggy Williams, and her husband, Tom, of Banning, Calif., and Claudine Roglin, and her husband, Leon, of Post Falls, Idaho; three sisters, Cora Miller,of Yucaipa, Calif.; Francis Brown, of Tahlequah; and Ruth Cornwall, of Lubbock, Texas; eight grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

Davis
Sherman Davis Jr., 73, Altus, died Friday, Nov. 21, 2003 at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral Services are pending with Kincannon Funeral Home.
Gilley
Patsy Ruth Gilley, 66, Comanche, died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003 at Comanche County Memorial Hospital in Lawton. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 24, 2003 in the Memorial Chapel at Kincannon Funeral Home with Bill Osborne officiating. Burial will follow services at the Martha Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home.
She was born in Sopher on Dec. 20, 1936 to Jim and Lizza (Pritchard) Keck. She attended school in Martha. She married Bob Gilley on Nov. 26, 1952 in Altus. To this union four children were born. She was a homemaker taking care of the children and had worked as a cook at the Mountain Park School for some time. She was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed being outdoors, lawn work, cooking and spending time with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother Cecil Keck and a sister, Mary Keck Kincannon.
She is survived by her husband Bob of the home in Comanche; one daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Jerry Wilson, Mangum; three sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Linda Gilley, Duncan, Garry and Jo Ann Gilley, Altus and Jerry and Karen Gilley, Blair; twelve grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren and many friends.
McCurry
Funeral services for Eldo D. "Mac" McCurry, 86, Snyder, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Church of Christ, Snyder, with Mike Hinton, Minister, Church of Christ Snyder and Ardron Hinton, Minister, Church of Christ Roosevelt officiating.
McCurry died Friday at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Burial will be in Mountain Park Cemetery under the direction of Becker Funeral Home of Snyder.
McCurry was born Oct. 13, 1917 in Lindale, Texas to Asa and Alice McCurry. He was one of thirteen children in the family. He graduated from Wapanucka High School in 1933 at the age of 16. He worked for the Federal government, the Corps of Engineers and the Bureau of Reclamation, from which he retired after 37 years of service. He had worked on twelve different projects. He married Joyce Chenault Archer on Aug. 7, 1969 in Las Vegas, Nev. They were married for 34 years. From 1988 to 1996, he owned and operated the Tom Steed Bait Shop. He was baptized into the Church of Christ on Oct. 17, 1993 in Crowder.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Michael and Denis; eight brothers, Curtis, Horace, Ellis, Watson, Lenis, Don, Daniel and Buford and two sisters, Lucy and Eunice.
Survivors include his wife Joyce of the home; children Jon McCurry and Brian McCurry, both of Davis, Tad McCurry of Reseville, Calif. and Linda La Pierre of Yerington, Nev.; step children Randy Archer of Mountain Park, Larry Archer of Lone Grove and Jacqueta Narviaz of Las Vegas, Nev.; two brothers, Odell McCurry of Wapanucka and Dewey McCurry of Tucson, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Jason McCurry, Jodie Jennings, Byron McCurry, Aislinn McCurry and Jimmy Jackson; six step grandchildren, Amy Hill, Will Archer, Diedra Snyder, Brad Archer, Brian Archer and Kaye Winn; 14 great grandchildren, Jaylee, Jarod, Westin, Bryce, Maddie, Wyatt, Andrew, Dayton, Katelyn, Issaiah, Billy, Asja, Dakota and Colin.

Brookman
Opal Brookman, 98, died Nov. 21, 2003 at Colonial II nursing home in Hollis. Services will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003 at Stewart Funeral Chapel, Hollis. David Manney and Bob Garton will be officiating. Burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery.
Hilda Opal Curb was born Sep. 9, 1905 in Harmon County to Edwin Andrew and Ethel Abercrombie Curb. She graduated from Vinson High School in 1924 and was a life long resident of Harmon County. She married Vanny M. Brookman Sep. 9, 1924 at Tea Cross, north of Hollis. She was a member of the Baptist Church and was a devoted housewife and mother and helped Vanny with the farming and ranching.
She is survived by one son, Darrell Brookman of Hollis; one grandson, Darin and wife Jeanette of Hollis; one granddaughter, Judy Messenger and husband Sam of Gradbery, Texas; four great grandchildren, Katy and Seth Brookman, Amy Coker and Josh Messenger. She was preceded in death by her husband on May 12, 1999; two brothers, Ralph and Olaf Curb and two sisters, Alma Putnam and Joyce Claxton.
