Everett W. Goodnight
Everett W. Goodnight, 86, died Monday, April 25, at his home in Shawnee.

He was born June 28, 1918, in Econtuscha Bottom to Arthur Webb Goodnight and Annie Mae (Smith) Goodnight. He attended Valley View Schools.

On June 26, 1937, he married Lorene Poole in Shawnee.

He retired from the City of Shawnee Street Department and for many years cared for the Johnson Cemetery.

He was a member of New Life Christian Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jim Goodnight; brothers, Charlie, Elvis, John and Clayton; and one great-great-grandson.

Survivors include his wife, Lorene Goodnight of the home; daughter, Glenda Kennedy of Shawnee; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Bill and Barbara Goodnight of Shawnee, Gene and Linda Goodnight of Seminole and Leon Goodnight of Wewoka; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Agnes Duncan of Portersville, Calif., and Pauline and Orville Shepherd of Wewoka; one sister-in-law, Ruth Goodnight of Portersville, Calif.; 22 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. today at Johnson Church of God with the Rev. Charles Higgins and Charles Sutton officiating. Burial will follow at Johnson Cemetery.

Walker Funeral Service of Shawnee is directing arrangements.

Johnny Richard Barnhart
Lifelong Earlsboro resident Johnny Richard Barnhart, 71, died Monday, April 25, at Mercy Hospital.

He was born Feb. 12, 1934, in Harjo, the son of John F. Barnhart and Stella (Nadeau) Barnhart.

He attended grade school in Harjo and high school in Earlsboro.

On Nov. 5, 1953, he married Patricia McCormack in Tecumseh.

He retired in 1987 after 25 years of working as a supervisor of construction for the Oklahoma State Department of Human Services.

Johnny was a true humanitarian. He gave himself to everyone, but his delight was spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Stella; his grandparents who raised him, Vincent and Leila Nadeau; and sister, Carolyn Sue (Barnhart) Thomas.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Barnhart, of the home; three children, Markeeta Little of Earlsboro, Johnny Barnhart Jr and his wife, Terri, of Old Hickory, Tenn., and Joe Don Barnhart of Shawnee; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Vincent Junior Nadeau of Earlsboro, Jessie Joe Nadeau of Earlsboro, and Gene Raymond Nadeau of Earlsboro; several nieces and nephews.

Service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Resthaven Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Brain Pain officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Chester Sadler
Edmond resident Chester Sadler, 53, died Sunday, April 24, at his home of an apparent heart attack.

He was born Jan. 20, 1952, in Guthrie to Cecil Ray Sadler and Leota Jewel Sadler.

He was raised and lived in the Shawnee and Guthrie area most of his life.

Sadler was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his son, Chris Sadler; daughter, Lori Blystone of Springfield, Mo.; three brothers, Cecil Sadler of Oklahoma City, Billy Bob Keller of Edmond, and Gary Mac Cole of Louisiana; sister, Rita Mae Jarvis; three grandchildren, several uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews.

A private burial will be held Friday at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Baggerly Funeral Home of Edmond.

The family requests no flowers be sent. Donations may be made to the American Heart Association in lieu of flowers.

Thomas Olen Pringle
Shawnee resident Thomas Olen Pringle, 76, died Tuesday, May 10, at a local hospital.

He was born March 10, 1929, in Newalla to Homer and Kelly Pringle. He grew up in the Shawnee area and moved to California with his parents around the age of 14. He graduated from Polytechnic High School in Los Angles in 1947 and then returned to Shawnee in 1948. He went to work as a meat cutter for Public Market. He worked for Scrivner for most of his career. Scrivner was subsequently purchased by Fleming Foods and he retired from Fleming in 1995.

On Oct. 11, 1948, he married Juanita M. McDonald in Wichita Falls, Texas.

He was a musician and organized several bands that played western swing at various functions.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Teddy Dwight Pringle.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita Pringle of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Amber Pringle of Shawnee; two granddaughters, Lindsay and Sarah Pringle of Shawnee; two step-grandchildren, Herbie and Tryston Brandon of Shawnee; one sister, Oneta Edwards and her life companion, Earl Brewer of Oklahoma City; one brother-in-law and his wife, Hodge and Vera McDonald of Shawnee; and numerous other relatives.

Service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Chapel of Walker Funeral Service with the Rev. Sam Matthews officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park with Bill Matthews officiating.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Artie Hall
Shawnee resident Artie Hall, 49, died Monday, May 9, in Shawnee.

He was born Oct. 2, 1955, in Seminole to Forrest Lee and Geneva (Cruise) Hall.

Born in Seminole he grew up in Shawnee. In 1973 he graduated from Shawnee High School.

Hall worked for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation since 1980. He was an original member of the Santa Fe Gunfighters.

He enjoyed traveling on his motorcycle, hunting and fishing.

Hall was preceded in death by his father, Forrest Lee Hall.

Survivors include his son, Darrell Hall of Seminole; mother, Geneva Hall of Shawnee; brother, Donald L. Pierson of Oklahoma City; numerous nieces and nephews.

Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Pioneer Baptist Church, Shawnee, with Pastor Charles Bascue of Pioneer Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home.

Emma Pauline Manning Bess
Tecumseh resident Emma Pauline Manning Bess, 79, died Saturday, May 7, in Oklahoma City.

Service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Assembly of God Church in Tecumseh with the Rev. Robert Rider officiating. Burial will follow in Mars Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home.

Robert Van Small
Former Harrah resident Robert Van Small, currently of The Village, died Saturday, May 7, in The Village at the age of 56.

Visitation with the family will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Smith-Parks Funeral Service, Harrah. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at the Asa Smith Memorial Chapel, Harrah.

Services are under the direction of Smith-Parks Funeral Service.

Tonya Morgan-Ledford
Tonya Carol Morgan-Ledford, age 65, died Monday, May 9, 2005, at Unity Health Center in Shawnee.

Tonya was born April 23, 1940, in Hamilton, Mont. the daughter of Elmer William Luedecky and Gladys Henrietta (Breckenridge) Luedecky. She attended school in Libby, Mont. She was married to Samuel Morgan who preceded her in death. She later married Fred Ledford. Tonya worked as a housewife and homemaker. She was a member of South Rock Creek Assembly of God. Tonya enjoyed being a caregiver as well as sewing, cooking, and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Samuel; one brother, Roger; and one infant son.

Survivors include her husband, Fred Ledford of the home; four children, Donny Morgan and wife, Tami, of Tulsa, Tammy Martin and husband, David, of Abilene, Texas, Scott Morgan and wife, Toni, of Shawnee, and Jeff Morgan and wife, Tami, of Holdenville; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren (and one on the way); three brothers, James Elmer Luedecky, David Douglas Luedecky and Donald Dean Luedecky; one sister, June Eleanor Clark; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Resthaven Funeral Chapel. Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Resthaven Memorial Park with the Rev. Bob Hedge officiating.

Resthaven Funeral Home of Shawnee is directing arrangements.

Benny Leon Kellogg
Paden resident Benny Leon Kellogg, 54, died Wednesday, April 11, in Oklahoma City.

Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Burnett Mission Church in Paden with Bro. Paul Heard officiating. Burial will follow at Paden Cemetery..

Emma Pauline Manning-Bess
Emma Pauline Manning-Bess, 79, of Tecumseh died Saturday, May 7, in Oklahoma City.

She was born Aug. 24, 1925, in Macomb to William Alfred and Maudie Alice (Cathey) Manning.

Emma was reared in the Macomb area. She attended elementary school at Hope school and was a 1943 graduate of Macomb High School. She lived in Norman while attending nursing school.

On March 2, 1945, she married George Andrew Bess in Norman.

In 1946, she earned her registered nurse degree at Oklahoma City General Hospital (now known as Mercy Hospital). She served in the Cadet Nurses Corp. from 1944 to 1946. She then moved to West Los Angeles where she worked at the VA Hospital for 25 years. She returned to Shawnee area in 1970 and worked at the VA Hospital in Oklahoma City. Emma later became head nurse at Unity Hospital-North Campus in Shawnee. She volunteered at the Shawnee Senior Citizens Center for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, John A. Bess.

Survivors include her husband, George A. "Buster" Bess, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Timothy A. and Pamela K. Bess of Escondido, Calif.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ray E. and Edith Manning of Shawnee, and Roy E. and Heather Manning of Northridge, Calif.; nieces and nephews, Jenifer Cinicco of Shawnee, John Manning of Vista, Calif., Jay Manning of New Bern, S.C., Mark Manning, William Manning, Laurie Redwine and Pamela Desrosiers, all of Riverside, Calif.

Service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Assembly of God, Tecumseh, with the Rev. Robert Rider officiating. Burial will follow in Mars Hill Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home.
