Calvin Almo Jacobs
Calvin Almo Jacobs of Bethel Acres passed from this life at the Talihina Veterans Center on Thursday, June 23, to spend eternity with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

He was born on Dec. 21, 1924, in Abilene, Texas, to Orval and Rosa (Curtis) Jacobs, the youngest of 10 children. His parents and brothers and sisters preceded him in death.

He attended Shawnee schools, being awarded many yearly perfect attendance awards. He was on some of Coach Ray LeCrone's football squads as a tackle.

In 2003, by an act of Oklahoma Congress, he received his diploma from Bethel High School. On Aug. 10, 1943, he was inducted into the U.S. Marine Corps. He served in the South Pacific and the China occupation. He was honorably discharged on March 29, 1946.

In November 1948, he became a journeyman brick layer in Dallas, Texas. He was a union member until his death.

On June 1, 1950, he married Patsy Curtess of Bethel Acres in Plainview, Texas. Charles and Dixie (Jacobs) Taylor were their attendants.

He and his family moved to Roswell, N.M., in 1956, living there and Alamogordo, N.M., for 20 years. He was active in his church, coached little league baseball and was Scout Master for an Explorer Boy Scout Troop.

Survivors include his wife, Patsy, and son, Richard, of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Annette and Patrick Page of Fredericksburg, Va.; longtime family friend, Sherry Farris, of Tulsa, who Calvin often introduced as "my other daughter;" two grandsons, Dwayne Duncan and his wife, Christina, of Alamogordo, N.M., and Dustin Duncan and his wife, Jessica, of Tularosa, N.M.; five great-grandchildren, Taylor and Emily Duncan, Jonah Callinan, Sebastien and Annika Duncan; sister-in-law, Jean Jacobs of Oklahoma City; brothers-in-law, John Windel of Shawnee and Mustafa and his wife, Hamida, Curtess of Rockport, Texas, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Gaskill Funeral Chapel with pastors Larry Sparks and Mike Taylor officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.

The family will be receiving friends at Gaskill Funeral Chapel from 4 to 6 p.m. today.

Julia Gomez Martinez
Julia Gomez Martinez, 74, died Wednesday, June 22, at her home in Shawnee.

She was born Jan. 9, 1931, in Shawnee, the daughter of Lorenzo Y. Gomez and Maria (Padilla) Gomez. She graduated from Shawnee High School in 1951. On March 31, 1962, she was married to Andy Martinez in Shawnee. He preceded her in death on Dec. 28, 1985. Mrs. Martinez spent most of her life as a housewife and homemaker. She was a member of St. Benedict's Catholic Church. Her joys were her faith in God and her four grandchildren.

Survivors are two children, Amelia B. Martinez of Shawnee and Elaine C. Maston of Shawnee; four grandchildren, Tyler R. Maston, Andrea E. Maston, Trey M. Maston and Seth R. Maston, all of Shawnee; sister and brother-in-law, Sara and Frank Martinez, of Clinton, Mich.; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Debbie Gomez, of Lancaster, Texas, and numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

She also was preceded in death by her parents.

Viewing will be at Resthaven Funeral Home until 5 p.m. today. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. at Gaskill Funeral Chapel. Rosary service will begin at 7 p.m. today at Gaskill Funeral Chapel.

Funeral will be noon Monday at St. Benedict Catholic Church. Resthaven Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions can be made to the National Kidney Foundation.

Frankie Hopkins
Lifelong Maud resident Frankie "Daryl" Hopkins, 54, died Thursday, July 7, at Mercy Health Center in Oklahoma City.

He was born July 19, 1950, in Shawnee to Benjamin Franklin and Relta Mae (Roberts) Hopkins.

On May 7, 1993, he married Pamela Fay (Lee) Hopkins in Van Buren, Ark.

He attended Seminole State College and East Central University on a baseball scholarship.

Daryl was a rig superintendent and troubleshooter for Nabors Drilling Company out of Tyler, Texas, covering areas of Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico and Louisiana.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Maud.

Daryl coached little league baseball.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother-in-law, Marie Lee in 1990, stepfather, Doug Templeton, and one grandson, Richard James Boren in 1995.

Survivors include his mother, Relta Templeton of Maud; wife, Pamela Hopkins of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Frankie Daryl Jr. and Amanda Hopkins of Tecumseh, Nicholas Bryan and Jennifer Hopkins of Emory, Texas, Billy "Brac" and Melisa Boren of Hutchison, Kan.; daughter and fiance', Latisha Dawn Boren and Ryan Brandt of Oklahoma City; mother and father-in-law, Ray and Mimi Lee of Maud; and eight grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Terry Morris, Richie Birdwell, Charlie Carter, Tommie King, James Garretson, Frankie Blain, Charles Hutchins, Shorty Snodgrass and Max Hunt.

Viewing will be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday at Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home, Maud. Service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, Maud, with the Rev. Jim Kirkendall officiating. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Mission Cemetery under the direction of Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home.

Edmund A. Grywalski
Shawnee resident Edmund A. Grywalski, 85, died Thursday, Aug. 11, in Norman.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Rose Hill Cemetery, Ardmore. Viewing will be 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Cooper Funeral Home.

Other information will be announced by Cooper Funeral Home.

Virginia R. Davis Braden
Longtime Chandler resident Virginia R. Davis Braden, 86, died Thursday, Aug. 11, in Oklahoma City.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Oak Park Cemetery in Chandler with Brother Lyndal Warner officiating.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to Infant Crisis Services, 1933 N.W. 39 St, Oklahoma City, OK 73118 or to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation.

Parks Brothers Funeral Service of Chandler is directing arrangements.

Jeffrey Lee Ogden
Lifelong Lincoln county resident Jeffrey Lee Ogden died Wednesday, Aug. 10, in Okfuskee County at the age of 35.

Jeff was born Feb. 9, 1970, in Claremore to James Lee Ogden and Helen Earline (Montgomery) Ogden.

He graduated from Prague High School with the class of 1988.

Survivors include his parents, James and Helen Ogden of Prague; brother and sister-in-law, Brian and April Ogden of Shawnee; nephew, James Trenton Ogden of Shawnee; uncle and his wife, Roger and Becky Ogden of Portland, Ore.; aunt and her husband, Maeline and Jeff Smith of Quinton; six cousins, Megan Ogden, Lauren Ogden, Candice Bruce, Billy Bruce, Ashley Bruce, and Brookelynn Smith.

Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church in Prague with Bro. Tim Emmons officiating. Burial will follow in the Prague Cemetery.

Parks Brothers Funeral Service of Prague is directing arrangements.

Nellie Mae Love Bower
Choctaw resident Nellie Mae Love Bower, 83, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 10, in Midwest City.

She was born July 3, 1922, in Junction City, Kan., to Josephine Stensass and LeRoy Love.

Nellie loved spending time with her family and her extended family at the Choctaw Senior Citizens Center. Memorials may be made to the Senior Citizen Center, 14653 Dean St., Choctaw, OK 73020.

Nellie was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Margie Williams; and one son, Lester Lawrence Huff.

Survivors include three brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Frances Love of Louisville, Ga., Ed and Liz Williams of Choctaw, Harold and Alice Williams of Midwest City; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Jim McGaha of McLoud, Loretta and Bill Groth of McLoud, and Linda Fagg; six sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Mary Ann Huff of Newalla, Don and Annette Huff of Choctaw, Darrel and Sandy Huff of Choctaw, Larry and Linda Bower of Midwest City, Mike and DeAnn Bower of Choctaw, and Jerry and Bonnie Bower of Choctaw; one daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Charlie Lucas of Del City; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.

The family will be receiving friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Candlewood Chapel, 315 S. Sooner Road.

Service will be 10 a.m. Monday at Faith Community Christian Church, 100 S. Choctaw Road, Choctaw. Burial will follow at the Dale Cemetery in Dale.

Ford Funeral Service, Midwest City, is directing arrangements.

Bette L. (Lowe) Cass
Maud resident Bette L. (Lowe) Cass, 79, departed from this life on Saturday, August 27. She died due to complications from brain cancer. She graduated from Will Rogers High School in 1944 then moved to Maud.

She was married in 1952 to Charles Bennett Cass, who was from Springfield, Illinois. He preceded her in death in 2001. They had been married 49 years.

Bette and Charles were very active members in the St. Mark's Methodist Church, belonged to several organizations and served on many committees for Maud.

Bette volunteered many hours at the Seminole Hospital as a Pink Lady in the Gift Shop. She belonged to the Eastern Star. She was a very loving and giving person and will be missed and loved by her family.

The family would like to thank all Bette's friends for their kindness and help during her illness.

Survivors include her son, Charles Bennett Cass II of the home; sister, Norma L. Hufford of Tulsa; brother Richard Leighton Lowe of Cambridge, N.Y.; three nieces, Linda L. Difrancisco Jr. of Texas, Norma Jean DeVault of Tulsa, Bette L. Holtam of Broken Arrow; two nephews, Paul Thomas Hufford of Tulsa and Warren Lowe of New York, and many cousins.

Bette will be buried in the Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Seminole between her husband, Charles Cass, and her father, Ernest Lowe. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.

Cremation Services are under the direction of Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home in Maud, Oklahoma.

Lois Helene Braman
Lois Helene Braman, 87, of Shawnee passed away Sunday Aug. 28 at her home.

She was born February 15, 1918 in Arkansas City, Kan., to Opal (Hardy) Ronsick and Earl Chadwell.

She graduated high school in Arkansas City and attended college at St. Gregorys. She also graduated from Famous Artist in Connecticut and taught art classes.

She and her husband operated a Tool & Dye Shop in Seminole. She was a member of Northridge Church of Christ and enjoyed puppet ministry and worked as a volunteer "pink lady" at Seminole Hospital. Most of all, she enjoyed teaching young artist.

She is preceded in death by her parents, two husbands Carroll Kemper and Russell Braman; sister, Phyllis Jean Hess and a granddaughter, Marty Jo Kinnamon McGovern.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Bobby Kinnamon of Shawnee; grandson, Joel L. Kinnamon of Pleasanton, Calif., great-grandson, Craig Simpson of Bethany; brother Jack Ronsick of Asheboro, N.C.; three nieces and three nephews and their families; and two step- daughters, Mona Gilstrap and Shirley Schmitz.

A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, at Walker Funeral Service Chapel with Cliff Craig officiating.

Arrangments are under the direction of Walker Funeral Service in Shawnee.
