Bertha Mae Johnson
Bertha Mae Johnson, 70, of Shawnee passed away Monday at a local hospital.

She was born August 9, 1935, in Meeker to Everett and Velta (Rackley) Honeycutt.

She worked for the Shawnee Public School system and retired from Humpty Dumpty after 29 years.

She married William Johnson in December of 1986. She lived in Shawnee most of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband in 1999.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Larry Haffner of Shawnee; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Jerry Honeycutt and Ron and Sue Honeycutt, all of Shawnee; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Jamison Cemetery with Tom Park officiating.

Walker Funeral Service is directing arrangments.

Karen Cecelia (Selfridge) Richardson
Former Seminole resident Karen Cecelia (Selfridge) Richardson died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005 at Helena, Mont.

Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with the Rev.Carl Whitfied officiating.

Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole, is directing arrangements.

Burniece Estelene Petray
Burniece Estelene Petray, 69, of Seminole, died Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2005 at her home.

Service will be 11:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 16 at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Charles Bascue officiating. Burial will follow at Little Cemetery.

Arrangements under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.

Gloria Stasyszen
Tecumseh resident Gloria Stasyszen, 80, died Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2005 in Tecumseh.

Vigil will be 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday Sept. 17 at St. Benedict's Catholic Church.

Other information is pending and under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home in Tecumseh.

Esther "Patricia" Ferron
Long time Shawnee resident Esther "Patricia" Ferron, 96, went to be with our Lord on Tuesday, Sept. 13. She took the first step of this journey with her family at her bedside.

Patricia moved to Shawnee from New Jersey in 1982. She was an active volunteer at the Shawnee Senior Citizen Nutrition Center for some 20 years. She was known for creativity and warmth. She made sure a birthday was never missed by crafting monthly calendars proudly displayed at the Senior Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Arthur Sr., in 1994.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Dr. A.J. and Ruthann Ferron of McLoud; one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Eugene Aloi of San Diego, Calif.; grandchildren, A.J. and Elizabeth Ferron, Craig Ferron, Michelle and David Harris, Christopher and Amanda Ferron and Collette Aloi; six great-grandchildren, Nichole Ferron, Ashley Ferron, Joey Ferron, Kaytlyn Ferron, Krista Ferron and Hunter Harris.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. Friday at Resthaven Funeral Home, Shawnee. Graveside service celebrating her life will follow at 11 a.m. at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Gloria (Junk) Stasyszen
Gloria (Junk) Stasyszen died peacefully in her home Wednesday, Sept. 14, strengthened by prayer and by the presence of her husband, Bill, members of her family and her hospice care providers. Deeply rooted in her Catholic faith, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend, employee and volunteer.

Born in Shawnee on June 17, 1925, she lived most of her life northwest of Tecumseh. She attended New Hope School and graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1942.

She married Bill E. Stasyszen on October 15, 1949, at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Shawnee. She was a faithful member of the parish throughout her life. After becoming homebound, she maintained contact by reading the parish bulletin, visiting with parishioners in her home and prayerfully reading the scriptures used at daily Mass. She was a long-time member of the Catholic Daughters of America.

Mrs. Stasyszen completed a 29-year career at Tinker Air Force Base as an Items Management Specialist at the Air Logistic Center. During the course of her tenure of service she received numerous awards and citations for outstanding performance and excellence, including a Sustained Superior Performance Award before her retirement in 1985.

A successful life-long homemaker, she was well known for the wide variety of hand-crafted items she made such as quilts, afghans, clothing items and dolls. She donated many of these items for charitable fund-raising events benefiting St. Benedict Parish, the Lincoln County Relay for Life to support the American Cancer Society, the Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art and St. Gregory's University. She also enjoyed a positive spirit of competition at the Pottawatomie County Fair, at which she consistently garnered top honors for her handcrafts, home canning and baked goods.

A long-time volunteer leader for 4-H clubs, she served for many years as the organizational leader for the Tecumseh 4-H Club, was active with 4-H youth throughout Pottawatomie County and attended the Southeast Regional Leaders Conference at Rock Eagle, Ga., on numerous occasions.

An active member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Post 260 in Tecumseh, she was especially dedicated to the needs of disabled veterans, for whom she designed and made hundreds of quilted lap blankets which she donated to veterans' hospitals over the course of several years.

In retirement, she enjoyed extensive travel with her husband and many friends, visiting all 50 states and Canada.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Mattie Junk of Tecumseh; several siblings and her eldest son, Peter M. Stasyszen.

Gloria is survived by her loving husband, Bill; her sons and daughters-in-law, Bill II and Jonna Stasyszen of Shelbyville, Ky., Joe and Marla Stasyszen of Chandler, Rick and Monica Stasyszen of The Woodlands, Texas, Fr. Lawrence Stasyszen, OSB, of St. Gregory's Abbey in Shawnee, and Jeannita Stasyszen of Meeker; grandchildren and their spouses, Jandi and Karlen, Bill III, Jason and Andrea, Philip, Sarah and Nate, Dusty, Mark, Jeff, Alex and Emily; great-grandchildren, Noah, Aaron, Allison, Alex and Alicia; sisters, Frances Marr of Tecumseh and Bernice Foree of Bethany; many nieces and nephews.

The family is grateful for the dedicated service provided by Loving Care Home Health and Hospice.

A Vigil of Prayer for Gloria Stasyszen will be held 7 p.m. Friday at Cooper Funeral Home in Tecumseh. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Shawnee. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be directed to the Bill and Gloria Stasyszen Scholarship Fund at St. Gregory's University in Shawnee. For more information contact 405-878-5422.

Jewell Walker Adams
Jewell Walker Adams, 87, of Shawnee died Friday, March 4, at an Oklahoma City hospital.

She was born June 14, 1917. She graduated from Greenfield High School and attended Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. She married Lee Walker Sept. 16, 1935.

She was employed by Sears, Dr. Myron Hunt and retired as head deputy from the Pottawatomie County Assessor's Office in 1984.

She served as president of Bison Federal Credit Union for several years.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Biddie Brim and Loda Cotton; husband, Lee Walker; sister, Gladys McCully, and brothers, Harold Cotton and Emery Cotton.

Surviving are three children, Marilyn Richard and her husband, Larry, of Oklahoma City, Dwane Walker and daughters of Shawnee and Jane Walker Epperson and her husband, Paul, of Shawnee; twin sister, June Gwaltney of Shawnee; husband, Jim Adams of Shawnee; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Resthaven Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Robert Carl Williams
Shawnee resident Robert C. "Bob" Williams, 66, of Shawnee died Thursday, Feb. 24, at his home.

He was born April 19, 1938, near Paden to William H. and Laura E. (Green) Williams. He had been a resident of Shawnee since 1971.

He grew up in the Midway community, north of Paden, and attended Midway and Paden public schools. He completed his junior year of Paden High School in 1955 and later received a GED from Oklahoma City University. He attended Central State College in Edmond.

Williams served more than two years in the U.S. Army in Orleans, France. He was assigned to the 1984th Communications Group and worked as a teletype operator and shift leader. Williams returned to the United States in June 1958 and received an honorable discharge at Fort Chaffee, Ark.

He worked for Z&M Construction Company at Oklahoma City and later worked as a roughneck for Vierson and Cochran Drilling Co.

On June 8, 1959, he married Carolyn Sue Holman in Paden.

In 1959 he started work as a civilian employee at Tinker Air Force Base. He retired from Tinker Jan. 1, 1988, after more than 31 years.

Williams served as Little League baseball coach at Dale and served as an assistant and later a head coach of the Shawnee American Legion Baseball Team.

He attended Thompson Heights Church of Christ, Shawnee.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, James Williams; and two sisters, Charlotte Williams and Joyce Miles.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Williams of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Linda Williams of Shawnee; one daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Jim Hartman of Shawnee; three grandchildren, Robert Scott Williams of Roland, Zachary Blake Williams of Roland and Brady Wayne Williams of Shawnee; five brothers and three sisters-in-law, Jack Williams of Fruita, Colo., Gene and Shirley Williams and Billy Williams, all of Seminole, Max and Darlene Williams of Morris and Paul and Carolyn Williams of Stroud; six sisters and five brothers-in-law, Dorothy and Harvey Mayfield of Paden, Mary and Billy Davis of Prague, Jessie Vaughn of Norman, Carolyn and Larry Bigbie of Norman, Shirley and Bobby Goble of Oklahoma City and Sandra and Greg Gates of Plano, Texas; one aunt, Lucille Williams of Midwest City; and many other relatives and friends.

Service will be 10 a.m. Monday at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel with Larry Lewis and Terry Newell officiating. Burial will follow in the Prague Cemetery.

Dortha Jean Turner
Dortha Jean Turner, 81, of Shawnee died Friday, Feb. 25, at a local hospital.

She was born July 25, 1923, in Shawnee to Worth "Doc" Lester and Leona (Dorety) Lester.

Turner attended grade school at New Hope and graduated from Tecumseh High School.

She retired from Tinker Air Force Base.

She married Carroll Parsons and then Gene Turner.

Turner was a lifelong member of New Hope Baptist Church and lived in Shawnee all her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one husband.

Survivors include two sons, Gene and Judy Parsons of Shawnee and Steve and Jackie Parsons of Ardmore; five grandchildren, Shawn and Brandi Parsons, Brian and Amber Parsons, Kyle Parsons, Stephanie Parsons and Kevin Parsons; four great-grandchildren; one nephew, Jim Igleheart of Shawnee; sister-in-law, Geraldine "Chubby" Washburn of Shawnee; three brothers-in-law, Buck and his wife, Corrina Parsons, of Tecumseh, Raymond Moore and Bill Powell, both of Shawnee; and a number of other nephews and nieces.

Service will be 10 a.m. Monday at the chapel of Walker Funeral Service with the Rev. John Mixon officiating. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery.
