William Dwight Harber
William Dwight Harber, Christian husband, father and son, left this life Friday, Sept. 16, at his home.

He was born Feb. 20, 1931, in Seminole at The Harber Hospital to Claud and Ollie (Ball) Harber and delivered by Dr. Harber.

He graduated from Shawnee High School. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Oklahoma State University and a further degree from the Southern Methodist University Graduate School of Banking.

He was an officer at the American National Bank in Shawnee and was on the boards of directors of American National Bank and First National Bank of Seminole.

He married Nancy Kay Walton in 1954 in Oklahoma City and they made their home in Shawnee.

He served in the U.S. Army as an infantry officer for two years and then six years in the Reserve.

The family were longtime members of the Central Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, William Clay Harber.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Harber, of the home; sister-in-law, Karen Marasco, of El Paso, Texas, and a number of cousins.

Memorial donations may be made to Heartland Hospice of Shawnee.

Graveside service is 1 p.m. Tuesday at Resthaven Memorial Park with Robert Prator officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.

Billy June Mankin
Shawnee resident Billy "Nanny" June Mankin, 77, died Friday, Sept. 16, in an Oklahoma City hospital.

She was born April 19, 1928, in Lufkin, Texas, to Clinton and Annie Lewis.

She possessed a great talent for painting, free-hand art and calligraphy. In her later years, she enjoyed playing bingo. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be remembered, loved and truly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, three sisters and one son.

Survivors include her husband of 37 years, Alva Mankin, of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Annie Shurtleff of Tulsa and Alva and David Marsh of Shawnee; one son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Pam Mankin of Bixby; one sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and John Brown of Jayess, Miss.; five grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and many other loving relatives and friends.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Gaskill Funeral Chapel with Dr. Ed Moore officiating. Burial will be at Dale Cemetery.

Thelma Irene Clement
Tecumseh resident Thelma Irene Clement, 94, died Wednesday, April 11, at Sunset Estates.

Visitation will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday.

Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Arrangements under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

Rose Inez Brewer
Shawnee resident Rose Inez Brewer passed away Saturday, April 21, at the age of 56.

She was born Sept. 22, 1950, to Russell and Jewell Wren in Shawnee and has lived here all her life.

On May 15, 1971, she married Oscar Brewer in Macomb.

Rose was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Shawnee and enjoyed oil painting as she was known to be very artistic.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Russell and Jewell Wren.

Rose is survived by her husband, Oscar Brewer of the home; a daughter, Amber Brewer of Tecumseh; brother, Ray Wren of Shawnee; two sisters, Doris Mabry of Shawnee and Kathy Schneider of Manass, Va.; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Temple Baptist Church in Shawnee under the direction of Barnes and Johnson Funeral Home, Midwest City.

Emsley V. (Lee) Akin
Oklahoma City resident Emsley Verdane (Lee) Akin, 85, died July 5, in Midwest City Regional Hospital.

Lee was born Dec. 4, 1921, in Maud to Daniel R. Akin and Earsy Akin.

Lee Akin achieved a BS in business from Oklahoma City University in 1952. He joined the U.S. Navy in World War II and was called up to serve in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. His career also covered the Vietnam War period. He retired from the Air Force in 1969 with full honors.

In 1986, he retired from his position as the Deputy Director of the Oklahoma Civil Defense. He was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Midwest City and a 50 year member of Midwest City Lodge #532 of A.F & AM.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father and his older sister Stella.

Lee is survived by his wife, Martie; son, Daniel Akin' two daughters, Jerrlyn Akin and Victoria Miller; two brothers, Delbert and Leroy Akin; a granddaughter, Jennifer Lynch and a great-granddaughter, Hannah.

Visitation will be held on today and Monday with formal visitation 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Barnes and Johnson.

Service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesay at First Baptist Church of Midwest City with burial at Arlington Memorial Cemetery.

David E. Wright
Shawnee resident David E. Wright, 81, went to be with the Lord Friday, July 6, in Oklahoma City.

He was born Aug. 19, 1925, in Okemah to Willard and Helen (Rebman) Wright. David graduated from Allen High School in Allen, Okla.

On Aug. 19, 1952, he married Jean Burris in Allen.

David served in the U.S. Army and Air Force during World War II. He graduated from East Central University in Ada with a bachelor's in education. He then attended Southwestern Baptist Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. David pastored in Baptist churches in Texas and Oklahoma. He taught school in Edna, Texas, White Eagle, Wynona, Choctaw, and Bethel. David was a charter member of Campers on Misson, American Legion, VFW, D.A.V., OEANEA, and the North America Mission Board. He enjoyed gardening, camping, Lake Ministries, and spoiling his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Wright, of the home; two daughters, Sandy Briscoe and husband, Gary, and Tammie Petros, both of Shawnee; two grandchildren, Chelli Briscoe and Rhyan Petros; sister, Barbara Huff and husband, Brad; numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be noon to 8 p.m. today.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Craig and the Rev. Paul Carter officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Temple Baptist Church building fund.

Alvin "Slick" Napoleon
Former Seminole resident Alvin "Slick" Napoleon, 67, died Monday, July 2, in Grandview, Mo.

He was born June 16, 1940, in Seminole to Fred and Velma (Tellie) Napoleon. He attended Pleasant Grove Schools.

Born and reared in the Seminole area, he moved to Kansas City, Mo., in 1968, where he met and married Rosalyn Williams on April 16, 1992. They have lived in Grandview, Mo., for four years.

He was a machine operator for Corporate Express. His grandchildren were the focal point of his life, and he enjoyed his lawn and gardening, basketball and football.

Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother, Fred Napoleon Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Rosalyn Napoleon, of the home; four sons and one daughter-in-law, Alvin Napoleon of Kansas City, Troy Napoleon of Chickasha, Evan Napoleon of Norman and Roderick and Noel Brown of Port Arthur, Texas; two daughters and sons-in-law, Vonda and Jonathan McLoud of Oklahoma City and LaTosha and Ray Sanders of Kansas City; five brothers and their wives, Spencer and Betsy Napoleon, Theodore and Kathy Napoleon, John and Ruth Napoleon, Bobby and Kaye Napoleon and Willie and Linda Napoleon; seven sisters, Letha Rivers, Eudell Young, Deborah Teal, Helen Hall and her husband, Henry, Wyomia Reed, Hazel Keesee and her husband, Marvin, and Earnestine Gordon; seven grandchildren, DaMontra, Dalonte, Ebony, Chadric, Brittany, Toren and Raylen; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, Uncle Joe, cousins and friends.

Service will be 10 a.m. Monday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Lee Oliver officiating. Burial will be at Earlsboro Cemetery.

John Earl Fite Jr.
Shawnee resident John Earl Fite Jr., 83, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2007, at a local hospital.

The family will be at the funeral home Tuesday Evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. to visit and greet friends.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, at Immanuel Baptist Church with Dr. Todd Fisher and Kenneth Barnes officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.

Mattie Lucille Morris
Shawnee resident Mattie Lucille Morris, 92, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2007, in a Tulsa hospital.

Viewing will be from Monday, Dec. 31, 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and noon until 8 p.m. Tuesday , Jan 1.

There will be a private family burial will be held under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.

Geneva Wilson
Shawnee resident Geneva Wilson, 82, died Sunday, Dec. 31, at a local hospital.

Geneva was born March 27, 1924 in Cleveland County to Felix Creek and Mary Fire (Gipson) Creek.

She married Cecil Wilson and was a homemaker.

Geneva was a member of the Native American Church.

Preceding her in death were her husband, a daughter, and two sons.

Survivors include sons, Dewayne Mack, Alvin Wilson, Melvin Wilson, Calvin Wilson and Marvin Wilson; daughters, Mary Tiger, Wilma Colungo and Gladys Tiger; sisters, Eunice Sloat and Cynthia Blanchard; brother, Albert Creek; 16 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Service will be 10 a.m. today at Wilson Family Home with Donald White officiating. Burial will be at the Wilson Family Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.
