Shawnee resident Violet Mae Fruit, 91, died Saturday, Jan. 13, at a local nursing home.

Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Immanuel Baptist Church with burial at Fairview Cemetery.

Walker Funeral Service will announce further arrangements.

Floyd Luther Linn
Lifelong Seminole resident Floyd Luther Linn, 74, died Sunday, Jan. 14, at Pioneer Nursing Home, Seminole.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Maple Grove Cemetery, V.A. Section, Seminole.

Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole is directing arrangements.

Kathrine Eyline (Cox) Hobbs
Lifelong Harrah resident Kathrine Eyline (Cox) Hobbs, 77 died Friday, Jan.12, at Harrah Nursing Home.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, at Asa Smith Memorial Chapel, Harrah, with Chaplain Ray Wade officiating.

Larry Neil Byford
Lifelong Claremore resident Larry Neil Byford, 60 died Friday, Jan. 12, in Tulsa.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, at Time Chapel, Stroud, with the Rev. Brad Halkins officiating. Burial will be at Stroud Cemetary under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home.

Wallace B. Harjo
Former resident of Seminole County Wallace B. Harjo, 47, died Thursday, Jan. 4, in Broward County Florida.

Wake service was held Monday, Jan. 15, at the Swearingen Funeral Chapel.

He will be taken to the Strother Community Center at 4 p.m. today for an all night service.

Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Strother Indian Community Center in the Strother Community, Northeast of Seminole, with Mike Harjo and Dorsey Nero officiating.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Violet Mae Fruit
Shawnee resident Violet Mae Fruit, 91, died Saturday, Jan. 13, in a local nursing home.

She was born Nov. 6, 1915, in Coalgate, Okla., to George Whit Wyatt and Pearl Ellen (Spangler) Wyatt.

She attended and graduated from Shawnee High School with the class of 1934.

On Feb. 1, 1942, she married Lawrence David Fruit in Shawnee. He passed away in 1991.

Violet was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church for more than 60 years. She worked in the church nursery for 49 years. She also taught Sunday School for toddlers and served as the Benevolence Chairman. She was named Senior Woman of the Year in 2000.

Violet came to know the Lord at an early age and served Him faithfully. She loved children and touched many lives as she worked in the church nursery and kept children in her home. She was a special Christian wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and a friend to many.

Preceding her in death were her parents; three brothers; two sisters; two infant daughters; and a son-in-law, Steven Weeks.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Richard Geyer of Shawnee, Vinita and Tommy Penuel of Shawnee; grandchildren, Brian and Laura Weeks of Norman, Christina and Mark Austin of Seminole, Jill Penuel of Norman, Joel and Josh Penuel of Shawnee; great-grandchildren, Patrick and Steven Austin of Seminole and Jacen Weeks of Norman; brother-in-law, Bob Nelson of Shawnee; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Immanuel Baptist Church with Dr. Larry Adams and Dr. Todd Fisher officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.

Memorials may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church Building Fund, 1101 E. Main, Shawnee.

Carolyn Jean Bowden (Bronson)
Carolyn Jean Bowden (Bronson) 42, passed away Sun. Jan. 14, at a local hospital.

She was born in Torrence, Calif. Oct. 10, 1964. She moved to Oklahoma in 1976. Carolyn attended and graduated from Strothers High School.

Carolyn enjoyed basketball and music.

She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Edward Bowden Sr.

Survivors include her son, Dillon Bronson of Meeker; her mother, Ella Mae Bowden of Shawnee; one sister and brother-in-law, Jenny and Billy Wolfe of Eufala, and three brothers and sisters-in-law Eddie and Marie Bowden of Shawnee, Randy and Angie Bowden of Shawnee, Gary and Deresa Claybrook of Moore, and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Service will be 1 p.m Friday at Resthaven Funeral Home Shawnee, Okla. with the Rev. Perry Nelson officiating. Burial will take place at Pottawatomi Cemetery.

Viewing will be from 8 a.m to 5 p.m Thursday at Resthaven Funeral Home.

Betty Jo Cranford
Shawnee resident Betty Jo (Welch) Cranford, 73, died of natural causes Saturday, Jan. 13, at Unity Health Care.

She was born Feb. 6, 1933, in Shawnee to Leonard Welch and Florence (Miles) Welch.

On Oct. 31, 1949, she married Floyd Cranford. They enjoyed 57 wonderful years of marriage.

Betty was a homemaker. She enjoyed camping, riding motorcycles, deer hunting, reading her Bible and going to church. She attended Shawnee Beauty College.

She was a longtime member of Evangelistic Center Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Leonard and Florence Welch; a sister, Delores Whitecotton; a great-grandson, Zackery Deathridge; and a great-granddaughter, Heaven Noel Phillips.

Survivors include her husband, Floyd Cranford of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Sherrie and Larry McDaniels; son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Sharon Cranford; five grandchildren, Melanie Deathridge, Crystal Cranford, Amber Rohrick and husband Steve, David Phillips and wife Elizabeth, Jolyn Klaus and husband Roger; 11 great-grandchildren, Derrick Deathridge, Kirstie and Kalah Gilmore, Lacey and Ashton Rohrick, Dalton Phillips, Ethan, Trae, Landon and Lauren Phillips and Trace McDaniels; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Gaskill Funeral Chapel.

Service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Evangelistic Center with Pastor Mickey Keith and Pastor Mark McIntosh officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.

Ruby D. Davis
Former Shawnee resident Ruby D. Davis, 88, died Sunday, Jan. 14, at Edmond Medical Center.

She was born Nov. 13, 1918, in Russellville, Ark., to Martin Andrew Chilton and Mary Elizabeth (Sims).

Ruby came to Oklahoma at the age of two in a covered wagon. She lived on the family farm near Wewoka before moving to Shawnee.

She attended Shawnee High School and graduated from nursing school at City Hospital in Shawnee.

Ruby worked at Baxter Hospital, then at A.C.& H. as a surgical nurse for more than 20 years and later at Shawnee Regional Hospital.

She was married Aug. 15, 1936, to J.D. Davis. They were married more than 61 years before his death.

Ruby attended Central Church of Christ and Northridge Church of Christ in Shawnee. After retirement she enjoyed cooking meals for others and visiting with friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three sisters, Jessie, Jewell and Mary

Survivors include one son, Don Q. Davis and wife, Linda, of Georgetown, Texas; one daughter, Marlene D. Neal and husband, Victor, of Edmond; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Davis, Amy Ottmers and husband, Daryl, Joel Baker and wife, Sarah, and Leah Baker; five great-grandchildren, Kara, Madisyn, Liam, Kaelyn and Ryan; numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Viewing will be today and Thursday.

The family will be at Walker Funeral Service from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday to receive friends.

A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Quail Springs Church of Christ in Edmond with Bill Wolf officiating.

Edith Armitage
Meeker resident Edith Armitage, 90, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, at Meeker Nursing Center.

Service is pending with Parks Brothers, Chandler.

E. Gertrue Larch-Miller
Shawnee resident E. Gertrue Larch-Miller, 84, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2007 at her home.

She was born Dec. 24, 1922, in Ardmore to Frank and Dollie (McNeely) Thompson.

Gertie moved to Shawnee at a young age and was a graduate of Shawnee High School class of 1940.

She had worked in the office of the Aldridge Hotel and during World War II she supported the war effort by moving to California to work as a bookkeeper in the shipyards.

Upon returning to Shawnee, she married Burke Joseph Larch-Miller on Feb. 2, 1947.

She was a longtime employee of Commercial Brick Corporation. Gertie was an active member of St. Benedict Catholic Church. She also was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and the Salvation Army Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husband, B.J. Larch-Miller Jr; her parents, Frank and Dollie Thompson; sister, Geraldine Dutton, and a newphew, Russell Dutton.

Survivors include her son, Mark Larch-Miller of Shawnee; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and William Hudson of Midwest City and Linda and William Garwood of Herndon, Va.; two grandchildren, Shelby and her husband Josh Lane of Midwest City and Wesley Hudson of Midwest City; step-grandchild, William Hudson II of Lawton; one great-grandchild, Gunner Lane of Midwest City; one brother, C.L. Thompson and his wife Irene of Rockford, Ill.; nieces and nephews, Denise Rooker and Frank Dutton of Shawnee, Mike Larch-Miller of San Diego, Calif., Inis Bloomster and Paul Thompson of Rockford, Ill.; brother-in-law, George Larch-Miller and his wife Joan of San Diego, Calif., and longtime friends, Cynthis and Dennis Hardin.

Visitation will be 6 p.m.-8 p.m. today at Walker Funeral Chapel.

Service will be noon Friday at Saint Benedict Catholic Church with Father Maurus Jaeb, O.S.B., officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.
