Clara was born Feb. 9, 1922, in Cisco, Texas to John and Katie Blanken. When she was 8, their family moved to Shawnee and began operating Beard Street Cafe, where Clara was a cook and waitress, serving hungry customers six hamburgers for a quarter.

She later began working for Kresses in downtown Shawnee, and eventually worked in the service department at Sears.

She married Henry Grundmann Aug. 1, 1945, and they started their life together in a home near Earlsboro. They had six children, Nancy Kay, who passed only a day after she was born; Paul Henry, Martha Lois, who passed away as an infant; John David, Steven Robert and Diana Ruth. They were married for 62 years.

She and Henry operated Main Engine Service on Main Street in Shawnee from 1957 until 1966. Together, they also maintained Henry's family farm and tended to the many pecan trees on the property. She also loved traveling and camping with her friends, and was always prepared for all the meals and surprises that might come along on their adventures.
