Galian L. Wilson
Former Carney, Okla., resident Galian L. Wilson died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008, at the age of 85.

Service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Chandler.

Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service, Chandler.

Frances Roark Patterson
Tecumseh resident Frances Roark Patterson died Friday, Feb. 1, 2008, in Shawnee at the age of 92.

She was born Oct. 21, 1915, in Nebo, Okla., to Sherman Taylor and Vivian Frances (Fisher) Ham.

Born in Nebo, she was raised in the Arbuckle Mountains and taught in several locations before moving to Tecumseh in 1958.

She was a 1935 graduate of Fox High School. She then went to Central State Teaching College where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Education. In 1972 she received her Master's degree in Education at East Central University.

On April 29, 1939, she married Charlie Robert Roark in Duncan, Okla. He preceded her in death on June 11, 1977. She later married John T. Patterson on Dec. 6, 1986 in Tecumseh. He also preceded her in death on June 13, 2003.

Frances was a teacher, whose career spanned more than 36 years. She started teaching at Willow Point school near Duncan, where she met and later married Charlie Roark. They moved to a farm north of Marietta where she taught at Greenville and Meadowbrook. Later they moved to Barnsdall where she taught art and music. They then moved to Tecumseh in 1958 where she taught at Acme for three years before a 19 year stay at Barnard Elementary.

She was very active in the community, where she was a member of the First Baptist Church for 50 years, the Tecumseh Garden Club, and the BPW, where she was past president. She was a Grandparent Advocate of Central Oklahoma Juvenile Treatment Center.

Frances was a prolific writer, with her work published in several poetry anthologies and various newspapers. She loved to travel and has been to the Holy Land several times. She loved attending cowboy music and poetry festivals all over the country with her daughter Francine, Oklahoma's Cowboy Poet Laureate. She was always interested in new things and had been taking guitar lessons the last three years. She played the piano and was the first pianist at Eastside Baptist Church in Marietta.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; a sister, Blanche Poore, and a brother, Jerry Ham.

Survivors include her daughter, Francine Roark Robison; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Joyce Nutter of Lone Grove, Okla.; four grandchildren, Jeff Nutter, Joe Nutter, Janet Nutter and Joni Key; six great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Wright of Thousand Oaks, Calif., and Betty Bell of Marysville, Kan.; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, including Colleen Hunter of Norman.

Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church, Tecumseh, with Dr. Mack Roark officiating. Burial will be at Tecumseh Cemetery.

Joe Bill Lantrip
McLoud resident Joe Bill Lantrip died Thursday, Feb. 1, at his residence at the age of 79.

Joe was born Jan. 27, 1928, in Ione, Ark., to Delmar V. Lantrip and Avos (Savage) Lantrip.

On Dec. 31, 1948, he married Wilma Rose Johnton in Waldron, Ark.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1946 and the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952.

Joe worked as a truck driver for Transcon Freight Lines for 25 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #126 in McLoud and the Road Runners Club for Retired Drivers. He used the G.I. Bill to obtain a private pilot license.

Joe's children and grandchildren were the delight of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Bob Lantrip.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma Lantrip of the home; three sons, Stanley Lantrip of Norman, Steve Lantrip of Shawnee and Stacey Lantrip of Newalla; five grandchildren and several other family and friends.

Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Chapel of Walker Funeral Service with Dennis Stone officiating. Burial will be in Dale Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Service, Shawnee.

Flossie P. Watson
Flossie P. Watson, Beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother, went peacefully to be with her Lord on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2008.

She was born on Oct. 14, 1911, to the Rev. William Henry and Margaret Cole in Sayre, Okla., and was a long time resident of Shawnee, where she was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.

Flossie is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter; 11 brothers and sisters.

Flossie is survived by her son, Clifford Cole of Choctaw; four daughters, Marjorie Swift of Shawnee, Juanita McAnally and husband, Delrain, of Tulsa, Cassie Jackson and husband, Don, of Claremore, and Geraldine Watson of Wewoka; 11 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 25 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral Service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Chapel of Walker Funeral Service with the Rev. Clint Dawkins officiating. Interment will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery.

The Family would like to thank the staff of Tecumseh Sunset Estates for the loving care they gave Flossie.

Sarah Louise Cunningham Latimer
Longtime St. Louis, Okla., resident, Sarah Louise Cunnigham Latimer, 86, passed away Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008, in Shawnee.

She was born Aug. 31, 1921, to George Edward and Edith Evelyn (Shannon) Cunningham in Casey, Okla.

She moved to St. Louis at the age of 12 and attended St. Louis School.

On April 8, 1944, she married Vernon Latimer in Shawnee. Mr. Latimer preceded her in death on Sept. 18, 1993.

She was a homemaker and a lifelong Methodist. She attended St. Louis Baptist Church, where she served as the Nursery Attendant for more than 20 years.

She loved birds, flowers, and her favorite Longhorn, Mac. She loved children and had been a babysitter for many of the children in St. Louis.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; one brother, George Cunningham; and two sisters, Nadine Cunningham and Ella Mae Widick.

Survivors include two daughters and son-in-law, Linda and Dick Rennels of Canute, Okla. and Kay Smith of Shawnee; three sons, Jim Latimer of Baytown, Texas, Larry Latimer of Moore, and David Latimer of Little Rock, Ark.; grandsons, Aaron Rennels, Corey and his wife, Candice Rennels, Brandon Smith and Bradley Smith, and their father, John Smith; one great-grandson, Riley Rennels; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Randall and Bobby Sue Latimer of Borger, Texas.

Service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Louis Baptist Church with Glenn Peck officiating. Burial will be at Tecumseh Cemetery, under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh. The family requests that memorials be sent to St. .Louis Baptist Church.

Zella Laverne Milburn
Lawton resident Zella Laverne Milburn, 96, died Sunday, Feb. 4, in Lawton.

Zella was born March 26, 1910, in Stephens County to the Rev. M.F. and Emma (Clark) Milburn. She lived in and around Duncan for most of her life.

She graduated from Comanche High School in 1929 and then from Westminister Junior College in Tehuacana, Texas. She received her bachelor of science degree and mastersdegree from Central State University in Edmond.

Zella was a member of the Stephens United Methodist Church in Duncan for 52 years. In past years she had served as chairperson of the Council of Ministries as well as many other committees. She was a member of the Duncan United Methodist Women and served in many of it's offices. She also served on committees of the Lawton District and Oklahoma Conference of the United Methodist Women. In 2004, she established the Zella L. Milburn Scholarship Endowment Fund to benefit students of Duncan Stephens United Methodist Church.

Zella was a lover of children and youth. She began teaching Sunday school classes when she was a sophomore in high school. She taught all age levels; mostly elementary. She sponsored the Methodist Youth Fellowship for 24 years and 4-H Club for 27 years. Zella was a public school teacher; teaching at Stony Point in Comanche County; Oak College, west of Comanche in Stephens County; White Rock in Lincoln County; and Harrisburg and Empire in Stephens County. In 1970 she was chosen Stephens County Teacher of the Year. In 1974 she retired from the Empire School District after teaching third grade for 30 years. She was a member of the Stephens County and Oklahoma Retired Teachers Assocation. She was a member of Rock Creek Family Community and Education Club and was a volunteer for Christian Concerns for Duncan for a number of years. In 1999 Zella made her home in the Village on Lee in Lawton and became a member of the United Methodist Church in Lawton.

She was preceded in death by her parents and six brothers, Roy, Willie, Charlie, Mansel, Clarence, and Luther.

She is survived by one brother and sister in law, Marion F. (Jr.) and Linda Milburn of Tecumseh; three sisters, Jetta Doyle of Chickasha, Johnnie Booth of Lawton and Rosetta Penrod of Houston, Texas; three sisters-in-law, Mildred Milburn, of Duncan, Doris Milburn of Comanche, and Kathryn Milburn of Mustang; eleven nephews; twelve nieces; and numerous great-nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

A special visitation for family and friends will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Stephens United Methodist Church, Duncan, with the Rev. Ruth Atterberry, pastor, officiating and Kenley Milburn assisting. Burial will be at Duncan City Cemetery under the direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Oklahoma Methodist Circle of Care for Children and youth at 1501 NW 24th Street, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, 73506.

Wanda Lee Abel
Shawnee Wanda Lee Abel, 77, died Friday, Feb. 2, in Shawnee.

She was born Dec. 8, 1929, in Pottawatomie County, to Charlie and Fern Pauline (Bodkin) Coffman.

Wanda was married Oct. 23, 1947, in Fort Smith, Ark., to Oran Kenneth Abel.

She was a homemaker and a member of Temple Baptist Church. She also was a Campfire leader for 12 years and a Cub Scout leader for 3 years; a Master Gardner and a member of the Lilac Unit Garden Club.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, Kenneth Lee Abel; a sister, Peggy Lofton; and her parents.

Survivors include her husband Oran K. Abel Sr. of the home; daughter, Cleo Crothers of Shawnee; son and daughter-in-law, O. Ken and Jo Anne Abel Jr. of Shawnee; son, Keith Abel of Birmingham, Ala.; grandchildren, Amber and Matt Thompson of Edmond, Andrea Crothers, Oklahoma City, Greg Crothers, Oklahoma City, Kentrina and Derrick Wissman, Shawnee, Kennya and Sara Abel, Sherman, Texas, Cassie and Phillip Watkins of Centerton, Ark., Kevin Abel, Oklahoma City, Allisha and Ray Drahos, Garrettsville, Ohio, Haley and Duane Smith, Houston, Texas; Kayla and Steve Whiddon, McKinney, Texas, Austin Malchar, Plano, Texas; and Bryn Gordon, Shawnee; six great-grandchildren, Lindsay Wissman, Jordan Wissman, Katelynn Wissman, Oran Kenneth Abel, IV, Madison Whiddon and Macie Whiddon; six sisters, Juanita Nabors of Sulphur, Genevieve Lucas of Wiley, Texas, Helen Morris of DeSoto, Texas, Pat Robertson, Rimrock, Ariz., Arlene Atterberry of Terrell, Texas, and Cheryl Formansky of Wells Point, Texas; three brothers, Jim Coffman of Shawnee, Doug Coffman of Tecumseh, and Charles Coffman of Edmond.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, at Cooper Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Richard Zimmer of Rock Creek Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be at Little Cemetery.

Conard O. Springwater
Conard O. Springwater, 81, passed away Saturday, Feb. 3, in Shawnee.

He was born on Nov. 26, 1925, in Gans, Okla.

Conard was raised in Seminole where he graduated from Seminole High School. He went to Oklahoma Baptist University and Oklahoma University. He was a master mason for fifty years and was a Southern Baptist ordained Deacon.

He was born July 10, 1945, to Wanda Springwater.

Conard served in the U.S. Army during WWII, The Korean Conflict and European Theatre as a master sergeant and a squad leader with the 504th parachute company and the 82nd airborne division, E-company. He also was a platoon sergeant in the 120th Engineering Company, 45th infantry.

He worked for ten years at Southern California Edison Power Company where he was a broker/dispatcher. He retired after 27 years from the federal government as a Power Systems Broker working on government dams.

He received a distinguished career service award from the U.S. Dept. of Energy.

He and his wife received a distinguished leadership award in 1998 from Oklahoma Baptist University.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter; Connie Lynn Springwater Ludwig in November 1995; and two sisters Helen Hart and Ruth Roby.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda of the home; one brother, Bert Springwater of Shawnee; two grandchildren, Lawrence and Linda Ludwig of Colorado; and numerous, nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Swearingen Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.
