Elizabeth C. Routh
Former longtime Shawnee resident Elizabeth Clark Routh currently of Dallas, Texas, passed away peacefully Sunday, Feb. 3, 2008, in Dallas, Texas at Caruth Haven Retirement Home at the age of 94.

Elizabeth was born in Leonard, Texas.

She graduated from Leonard High School and received an associates degree from The College of Industrial Arts, (now Texas Women's University) in Denton, Texas, and was a school teacher in Trenton, Texas.

In 1941, with her son, she moved to Shawnee to attend Neff's Business College, owned by the H.D. Neff family, friends who had formerly lived in Whitewright, Texas. After completing her course work, she went to work for Adams Plumbing on South Beard as a book-keeper for $15 a week. In 1945, she began keeping books and doing secretarial work for R.J. Wissinger, who owned Modern Motors, Modern Tire and Appliance, and Modern Tractors; and Thomas Walsh, a longtime CPA and businessman in Shawnee.

Later in her career, she was a trust officer for three banks then in town. The American National, First State, and Federal National, finally retiring at age 80.

In addition to her responsibilities in the trust departments, she was an active representative for the banks in community affairs. Among her many civic activities, she served on Mayor Pierre Taron's Committee for the elderly and attended a Washington, D.C., meeting as the representative for Shawnee. She was ticket chairman for the National High School Rodeo Finals held in Shawnee and was a longtime fund raider for St. Gregory's College. As a member of St. Paul's Methodist Church, she was director of the children's department for several years and a member of the choir.

In 1999, she moved to Dallas to be closer to her family and has resided at Caruth Haven until her death.

She is survived by her son, Bill Routh and his wife, Sue, of Richardson, Texas; four grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Friday, Feb. 8, at the Caruth Haven Court chapel.

Everett G. O'Neal
Shawnee resident Everett G. O'Neal, 86, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008, at a local nursing home.

Service is pending and will be announced under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.

Monica Janean Martin
Catoosa resident Monica Janean Martin, 29, departed this life Friday, Feb. 9, in Catoosa, Okla.

She was a beloved daughter, sister, and mother.

On March 15, 1977 she was born in Oklahoma City to Jimmy C. and Linda A. (Webb) Bartlett.

She graduated from Prague High School with the class of 1995. Her family and friends will remember her for her contributions to the Prague High School Speech Team where she won numerous awards. Monica was a cosmetologist, a member of the Army National Guard in Kingfisher and a member of the First Baptist Church of Sparks.

She was preceded in death by her three grandparents.

Survivors include her daughters, Katelyn Duffy of Pittsfield, Mass., Kylie Duffy of Pittsfield, Mass., and Gracie Martin of Harrah; parents, Jimmy and Linda Bartlett of Sparks; sisters and brother-in-law, Leasha Strang of Salina, Kan. and Shanna and Scott Groves of Olathe, Kan.; grandfather, Larry Webb of Afton; nieces and nephews, Josh Mast, Weston Groves, Miranda Strang, Ainsley Groves.

Monica loved ones find reassurance knowing that she is with her Lord and Savior, Jesus. "Goodnight, Monica. We love you."

Service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Sparks with the Rev. Bill Mitchell officiating.

Burial will follow at Sixkiller Cemetery in Afton.

Mary Jo Copeland
Tecumseh resident Mary Jo Copeland, 78, died Thursday, Feb. 10, in Shawnee.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Tecumseh City Hall auditorium with the Rev. Marty Grubbs and Rev. Darrell Tiller officiating. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery.

Other information will be announced through Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Betty Jean Loper
Shawnee resident Betty Jean Loper, 77, died Friday, Feb. 11, in Shawnee.

Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Cummings Cemetery, Maud.

Information is pending and will be announced by Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Wilma L. Blaylock
Hot Springs National Park, Ark., resident Wilma L. Blaylock, 80, died Monday, Feb. 7, in Houston.

She was born Aug. 5, 1924, in Bigelow, Ark., to Melton Oscar and Rosey Holland Brown.

She was a member of the Walnut Valley Baptist Church in Hot Springs as well as the Order of the Eastern Star.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Otis Henry "Pete" Blaylock; parents; three brothers; and two sisters.

Survivors include sons, Toby "Otis" Blaylock of Shawnee, Terry D. Blaylock of Hot Springs, Ark.; daughter, Constance Lea Evans of Cypress, Texas; sisters, Willa Curtis of Hot Springs, Ark., and Bobbie Vaught of Denver, Colo., and Ila Ends of California; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Service will be 10 a.m. today at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home Chapel with Tim Forest officiating. Burial will be at Crestview Memorial Park in Hot Springs, Ark., under the direction of Caruth-Hale Funeral Home Inc.

Ruth Pratt
Shawnee resident Ruth Pratt, 96, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, at a local hospital.

She was born March 1, 1908, in Johnsonville to Jim and Lillie Mae (Runyan) Crouch.

She attended Byars Public Schools. She graduated in 1926. Pratt obtained a degree from East Central University in Ada. She taught in public schools in elementary and secondary education (English) for 41 years, 22 of which were in Shawnee.

On June 3, 1937, she married Chess Pratt in Ada. He preceded her in death in 1993 after 56 years of marriage.

She was a member of the Church of Christ since age 13 and taught Bible class for many years.

She moved to Byars at the age of 4 to live with her mother's sister, Naomi Runyan, who reared her and her sister, Gladys, when their mother died in 1914. She moved from Wanette to Shawnee in 1951.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, aunt and an infant son.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Phil and Odra Pratt of Norman and Stan and Betty Pratt of Shawnee; grandchildren, Tamara and David Prater of Edmond, Kendra and Don Martin of Edmond; Michael and Kim Pratt of Tecumseh and David Pratt of Elgin; step-grandchildren, Barbie Reed of Chelsea and Mary and Tyre Love of Shawnee; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; and many friends.

Visitation will be 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Walker Funeral Service.

Service will be 10 a.m. Monday at the chapel of Walker Funeral Service with Danny Fredman officiating assisted by Dwyane Dennis. Burial will be at Wanette Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.

Memorials may be made to Central Church of Christ.

Linda Jean Jones
Stroud resident Linda Jean Jones, 61, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008, in Stroud.

Visitation will be 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Parks Brothers Funeral Service Chapel.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. at Stroud Cemetery with the Rev. Joe Molencupp officiating.

Service is under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service, Stroud.

Mary Jo Copeland
Longtime Tecumseh resident and former mayor Mary Jo Copeland, 78, died Thursday, Feb. 10, in Shawnee.

She was born Jan. 3, 1927, in Tecumseh to James and Ina (Davis) Duggan. She was reared in Tecumseh and was a 1945 graduate of Tecumseh High School. She also graduated from the Chickasha College for Women with a bachelor of arts in home economics.

After completing her degree, she taught home economics and biology at Tecumseh High School. She also worked as a social worker with the State of Oklahoma Department of Human Services for more than 25 years.

On Nov. 8, 1948, she married Newton Copeland. He preceded her in death on July 10, 1983. She married Bob Ivy on May 24, 1995. He preceded her in death on July 19, 2000.

Copeland was the first and only female mayor for the city of Tecumseh. She completed Newton Copeland's term after his death, then served a full term of her own.

She was active in Tecumseh Frontier Days, Tecumseh Summer Youth Program, Campfire Girls and PTA. She was active statewide in foster care, adoption and troubled youth programs.

She also was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Jimmy Duggan.

She is survived by her daughter, Lt. Gov. Mary Fallin of Oklahoma City; one son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Rochelle Copeland of Shawnee; four grandchildren, Christina Fallin and Price Fallin, both of Oklahoma City, Brad Dean of Bethel and Kyle Copeland of Shawnee; one sister and brother-in-law, Barbara Morrow and Jack Hays of Tecumseh; and numerous other relatives.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Tecumseh City Hall auditorium with the Rev. Marty Grubbs and the Rev. Darrell Tiller officiating. Burial will be in Tecumseh Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Lois M. Jones
Tecumseh resident Lois M. Jones, 83, died Friday, Feb. 11, at a Tecumseh nursing home.

Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cummings Cemetery in Maud with Rev. Larry Sparks officiating. Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Georgia Scott
Georgia "Georgie" Scott died Saturday, Feb. 12. She was 91.

Service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Paden Holiness Church. Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service.

Mary Ann Smith
Mary Ann Smith, 53, died Friday, Feb. 11, in Norman.

Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Little Axe Baptist Church with the Rev. Sunny Stuart and RueDell Smith officiating. Burial will be at Brown Cemetery.

Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh is directing arrangements.
