Salomon

Sabas Salomon, 90, Altus, died Sunday, April 18, 2004 at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, 2004 in the Memorial Chapel at Kincannon Funeral Home with Pastor Joe Tovar officiating. Burial will follow serviced at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home.

Sabas was born December 5, 1913, in Gonzalez, Texas to Juan and Alberta Salomon. He married Pauline Lopez in Orange Grove, Texas. To this union 12 children were born. Sabas worked for many years as a farm laborer to provide for his family. Sabas loved baseball and played for a minor league ballclub in Texas. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and singing. He was a member of the Templo Sinai Spanish Assembly of God Church in Altus for many years. He will be dearly missed.

He is preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Juan Salomon and son, David Salomon.

He leaves to cherish his memory forever his lovely wife of 66 years, Pauline Salomon of Altus; 10 children, Victor Solomon and wife Francis of Martha, Tony Maldonaldo and wife Gloria of Altus, Raymond Salomon of Altus, Cruz Salomon and wife Kay of Sulpher, Elodia Revilla of Altus Paul Salomon and wife, Rosalinda of Altus, Joe Salomon and wife, Linda of Sulpher, Luis Ybarra and wife Adelina of Duke, Juanita Revilla of Altus and Isaias Revilla and wife, Eloisa of Blair; 57 grandchildren; 103 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Shumaker

Thelma Shumaker, 91, of Altus died Sunday, April 18, 2004, at Grace Living Center in Altus. Shumaker was born Nov. 10, 1912, in Eldorado to Frank and Kate Easley and graduated from Midway High School. She married Dillon H. Shumaker on Jan. 14, 1936, in Altus. He preceded her in death on June 20, 1967.

Shumaker was a member of the Eldorado Church of the Nazarene and the Eldorado Historical Society. She enjoyed traveling, quilting, painting, music and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by one son, Milton Shumaker and wife Barbara of Eldorado; one daughter, Yvonne Pepper and husband Lavere of Johnson, Kan., three grandchildren, Allyn Pepper and and wife Karen of Yukon, Raylon Shumaker and wife Michelle of Eldorado, Kristi Mikles and husband, Kevin of Wiesbaden, Germany, six great-grandchildren, Keil and Kendra Pepper of Yukon, Katelynn, Kriston and Kelby Schumaker of Eldorado and Amy Mikles of Wiesbaden, Germany; one sister, Katherine Freeman of Altus;. and two brothers, Gordon Easley of Alma, Ark., and Lawton Easley of Van Horn, Texas.

Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 20, 2004, at the Eldorado Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

The family received friends Monday, April 19, 2004 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Eldorado Chapel.

McElroy

Martha McElroy died Monday, April 19, 2004, in Texas. Services pending with Lowell-Tims.

Palmer

Glenn Palmer, 56, died at Oklahoma Veterans Hospital in Oklahoma City on April 15, 2004. He was born July 28, 1947, to Sabastan and Lillian Busby Palmer.

He served in the United States Army four years during the Vietnam War. Glenn was also an active member of the National Guard until he retired. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He leaves to cherish his memories one son, Carl M. Palmer of Kansas City, Kan.; four brothers, Richard of Mangum, Samuel of Oklahoma City, Henry of Dallas, Alvin of Lawton; and sisters, Edna of Augusta, Ga., Melidean, Yular, Thelma, Angela and Lisa of Lawton.

Services will be held at St. Johns Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Mangum at 1 p.m., Wednesday, April 24, 2004. Rev Reggie Hamilton will officiate. Greer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Mangum.

Chastain

Reola Chastain, 78, of Warren died Monday, April 19, 2004, at her home. Funeral arrangements are pending with Kincannon Funeral Home.

Ward

Wayne Ward, 73, died Friday, April 16, 2004, at Harmon Memorial Hospital in Hollis. Services were Monday, April 19, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Hollis. with Pastor Jim Westmoreland officiating. Burial followed at Dodson Cemetery in Dodson, Texas. Visitation with the family was from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday, April 18, 2004 at Stewart Funeral Service in Hollis. Services were under the direction of Stewart Funeral Service.

Ward was born Sept. 25, 1930 to Herman and Ruth Ward in Oklahoma City. He married Patricia Lee Jones on August 13, 1949 in Los Angeles. Wayne had worked as a sandblasting contractor before moving to Hollis in May 1997. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and enjoyed helping with Falls Creek and Falls Creek Bible Study and the Bow The Knees Presentation. His favorite pastimes were hunting, building bunks and singing.

Ward is survived by his wife Patricia Ward of Hollis; two daughters, Patricia Janel Widera of Long Beach, Calif., and Linda Denise Schiavone of Alta Loma, Calif.; one son, Bruce Wayne Ward of Pacomia, Calif.; sister, Ida Fay Riddle of Dodson, Texas; two brothers, Fred Lee Ward of Lancaster, Penn., and Paul Eugene Ward of Upland; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren all of Southern California.

Ward was preceded in death by his parents Herman and Ruth Ward.

The family request that in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Falls Creek Project of First Baptist Church, Hollis, OK 73550.

Drury

Leona (Cargill) Drury, 98, of Altus died Friday, April 16, 2004, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Graveside services were scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, April 19, 2004, at the Restlawn Cemetery with Bill Osborne officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home.

Drury was born Jan. 4, 1906 in Eldorado to the late John and Jenny Maude (Head) Cargill. She lived with her parents, six brothers and three sisters in the Eldorado, Olustee, Elmer and Porter High areas. On Jan. 5, 1922, she married the late Nolan Drury. To this union were born three children, seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren.

Leona was a lifelong Jackson County resident. Leona graduated the eighth grade in Eldorado and then was put to work on the family farm. After her marriage to Nolan they farmed and raised their family in the Olustee area. In 1947, they opened and operated the laundry in Olustee and continued to farm. In 1950, they sold their land and business and moved to Blair where they farmed. In late 1950, Leona went to work at Navajo Laundry to help subsidize their income. She worked there until 1978 when she retired. Outside her work, she became a member of the Oklahoma Home, Community and Education Club in Blair. She was an active member for more than 55 years and was club secretary for 15 years. She called it her Farm Women's Club. She was an active member of the Church of Christ in Blair and later in Altus. In 1978, she became active at Jackson County Hospital as an auxiliary volunteer and remained in that capacity until her husband became ill and she stayed at home to care for him. Her greatest joy in life was the church and her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, six brothers, three sisters, two sons, Eldon and Troy Drury and one grandson, Charles Drury.

She is survived by her daughter, Gloria Porter of Altus; her grandchildren, Ira Nolan Drury and wife, Gail, of Dallas, Nyeeta (Drury) Smith and husband, Darryl, of Altus, Troy Brant Drury and wife, Kathy, of Chickasha, Terry Drury and wife, Diane of Blair, Daleon Drury of Moore and Rocky Copeland of Oklahoma City and one brother, Sterling Cargill of Oxnard, Calif.

Wrabel

Myrna Wrabel died Saturday, April 17, 2004. Services are pending with Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

Naeher

Stephan G. Naeher, 90, of Altus died Friday, April 16, 2004. Services are pending with Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

Salomon

Sabos Salomon, 90, of Altus died Sunday, April 18, 2004. Services are pending with Kincannon Funeral Home.

Helton

Homer Lee Helton, 81, died Friday, April 16, 2004, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. He was born May 15, 1922, in Altus to Walter Counts Helton and Nettie Prudence (Scraper) Helton.

On July 24, 1943, in Altus, Homer and Norma Jean Shook were united in marriage.

He worked for Yates Implement and farmed in the Jackson County area for many years. After retirement he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

He is lovingly survived by his wife, Jean Helton of the home in Altus, one son, Kenneth Helton and his wife Jo of Altus, three daughters, Neoma Linares and husband Eddie of Port Neches, Texas, Nelda Linares and husband Henry of Aberdeen, S.D., Cathy Baker and husband Kennith of Rapid City, S.D. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Larry Linares, Kerry Linares, Stacie Wasem, Suzi Frost, Dawn Cupps, Duane Baker, Jared Helton and Whitney Fauth and ten great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Harley Helton, and one sister, Bernice Lakin.

Family will receive friends from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

Funeral service for Homer Helton is scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday, April 19, 2004 in the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Tom Bailey and Bill Osborne officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

Tinsley

Vernon Edmond Tinsley was born in Mangum on June 14, 1927 to OE Carl and Bessie Lee (Rush) Tinsley. He graduated in 1945 from Altus High School. He served in the Army Air Force and was stationed in the Aleutian Islands. He met Joyce Elayne Briscoe at the skating rink in Altus and they were married on July 3, 1949.

Vernon surrendered his life to Christ as a young adult and began his ministry in 1958 at Hope Baptist Church in Hollis. He went from there to Lone Oak Baptist Church neat Sayre then to First Baptist McCloud and from there to Wallace Avenue Baptist Church in Shawnee. He then began a ministry in full time evangelism and ended his many years of full time preaching at Trinity Baptist Church in Altus. One of Vernon's favorite hobbies was playing golf and he played many rounds with many friends throughout his lifetime.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Leo Tinsley, Mildred Morris, Lois Newman and Elmer Tinsley.

Vernon was survived by his loving and devoted wife and caregiver, Joyce and his children and their spouses, Don and Deborah Hardy of Oklahoma City, Alan and Pam Tinsley of Walsenburg, Colo., Mike and Jan Harris of Edmond, and Scott and Connie Tinsley of Tulsa. His grandchildren, Sarah Miller, Bethany Tinsley, Autumn Tinsley, Macy Wilson, Trinity Tinsley, John Harris and Emily Hardy and one great-granddaughter, Nicole Miller. He is also survived by three step granddaughters and four great-grandchildren.

Vernon's ministry and witness continued throughout his life even after his retirement. He never complained during his lengthy illness but instead continued to attend church and tell people how God had blessed his life. The verse, Hebrews 12:1, "Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us...." accurately describes how his life was lived.

Services for Vernon will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 19, 2004 at Lowell-Tims Chapel with Reverend Jerry Wells and Reverend Gerald Lunsford officiating. Interment will follow in the Hess Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. Memorials can be made to Trinity Baptist Church Building Fund in Vernon Tinsley's name. The family will be receiving guests at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home on Sunday afternoon from 3 - 5 p.m.

Drury

Leona Drury, 98, of Altus died Friday, April 16, 2004, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, April 19, 2004, at Restlawn Cemetery in Altus under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home.

Davison

Wanda L. Davison, 68, of Altus, died Wednesday, April 14, 2004, at Jackson Memorial Hospital. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. Tributes may be made at www.lowell-tims.com.

Davison was born Nov. 4, 1935, in Woonsocket, S.D., to Andy Anderson and Bertha (Tipton) Anderson. She was a previous member of the Altus chapter of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed bowling, loved to travel and camp, and loved spending time with her family and friends. She attended the Methodist Church.

Davison was preceded in death by her father and one grandson, Jimmie Davison.

She is lovingly survived by her husband William Davison of Altus; her mother Bertha Jones of Altus; two sons, William C. Davison and wife Iris of Altus, and Wayne Davison and wife Chong Suk Davison of Huntsville, Ala.; two sisters, Sharon Vaughn and husband Waylan of South Dakota, and Ruby Patterson of San Antonio, Texas; one brother, Leroy Jones of California; and one grandson, Benjamin Davison of Stillwater.

Tinsley

Vernon Tinsley, 76, of Altus, died this morning at English Village Manor Nursing Home. Services are pending with Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
