Roy Stevens
Former Shawnee resident Roy Stevens died Monday, July 21, at the Southwest Medical Center in Oklahoma City. He was 84.

Service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Northridge Church of Christ. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Arrangements are under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

Oliedean V. Montgomery
Oliedean V. Montgomery of Moore died Monday at the age of 83.

Service will be 10 a.m. Thursday in the John M. Ireland Funeral Home Chapel in Moore. Burial will be at the Wanette Cemetery.

Violet Karcher
Violet Karcher, 92, Shawnee, died Saturday in a local nursing home.

Services will be 11 a.m. today at Resthaven Funeral Home. The Rev. Tom Harrison will officiate. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.

She was born Jan. 29, 1909, in Salem, Ark., the daughter of Egbert and Martha Jane (Dunham) Hedge. She attended school in Bristow.

On Sept. 19, 1926, she and Fred Karcher were married in Sapulpa.

Mrs. Karcher, a homemaker, had lived in Shawnee since 1942. She was a member of First Church of God, Shawnee, for more than 50 years. She was a volunteer for Pottawatomie County Election Board for a number of years.

Preceding her in death were her husband, parents, two sisters, two brothers and an infant daughter, Judith Ann Karcher.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Virgil L. and Delsa Karcher of Gilmer, Texas, James O. and Paulette Karcher of Shawnee and Freddie E. and Jill Karcher of Blanchard; two daughters and a son-in-law, Oleta M. Madden of Sapulpa and Donna K. and Bill Allen of Sallisaw; two sisters, Ella Stanton of Bakersfield, Calif., and Esther Hilterbran of Del City; 21 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

Grace Mahan
Grace Mahan, Seminole, died Sunday at a Seminole nursing home at the age of 96.

She was born May 12, 1905, in Wagner, which was then Indian Territory. She was the daughter of James Edward and Elizabeth (Venable) Mann.

On Dec. 1, 1928, she married John Roland Mahan.

She was the postmaster in Roland, Okla., until her marriage.

Mrs. Mahan, a homemaker, was a member of the First Baptist Church in Seminole.

Her husband and parents precede her in death.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Don Gilstrap of Howe, Texas; her sister, Jayne Said of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; grandchildren, Katherine Elizabeth Gilstrap and Patrick Mahan Gilstrap, both of Falkville, Ala.; one great-grandchild, and her caretaker, Flave Spanel of Seminole. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel, Seminole. Dr. Kelvin Moseley will officiate. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery.

Kermit Cleveland Vinzant
Kermit Cleveland Vinzant, 73, died Saturday at his McLoud home.

He was born Aug. 8, 1927, in Wayne County, Iowa, to Grover Cleveland and Mary Edith Vinzant.

On Sept. 30, 1960, he and Barbara Adams Basinger were married in Iowa.

Vinzant served in the U.S. Army as a medic and was a carpenter by trade.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Marcy Basinger; two grandchildren, Haley and Adam; a brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Ingrid Adams; a brother-in-law, James Adams; three sisters-in-law, Oneta Adams, Lorene Coleman and Marge Pinney, and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held Saturday in Lineville, Iowa. Asa Smith Funeral Service, Harrah, is in charge of arrangements.

Ebrahim Shamsollahi
Ebrahim "Abe" Shamsollahi died Friday at his Stillwater residence. He was 55.

He was born in Arak, Iran, on Feb. 3, 1946, the son of Mohammad and Nosrat (Naraghi) Shamsollahi. He attended schools in Arak. After completing his secondary education, he served in the Iranian military for two years.

He came to the United States in 1971 and studied pre-engineering at Southeastern State College in Durant. There, he met his future wife.

On Jan. 4, 1975, he and Jackie Panek were married in Durant.

The couple moved to Beaumont, Texas, where he received his master's degree in industrial engineering from Lamar University.

They returned in 1978 to Durant, where he worked at Peabody Gallion. In 1980, they moved to Tulsa, where he was an engineer at Crosby-McKissick.

The couple later resided in Sunnyvale, Calif., and Pensacola, Fla., where he was employed by the Marine Division of Westinghouse Corporation in the defense industry.

In 1986, the couple moved to Lake Tahoe, Nev., where they owned and operated a Texaco station and car wash. They remained there until 1990, when he established Sham's Press until his 1994 return to Oklahoma. At that time, he was a self-employed investment broker.

His brother, Essy, precedes him in death.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; seven brothers, Javad, Khalil, Jalil, Asgar, Akbar, Majid Shamsollahi and their wives of Arak, and Hamid Shamsollahi and his wife of Frankfurt, Germany; two sisters, Shalah and Nahid and their husbands of Arak, and nieces and nephews, Reza, Jeremy, David, Lahleh, Harmony, Denessa and Laticia.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Stillwater. The Rev. Joe Wilmoth will officiate. Burial will be at Fairlawn Cemetery, also in Stillwater.

John Jeffrey Anderson
John Jeffrey "Jeff" Anderson, Shawnee, died Friday in Shawnee at the age of 31.

He was born June 4, 1970, in Shawnee, the son of Ruth Dodson and Johnny Anderson. He attended Tecumseh and Shawnee High Schools, graduating in 1989.

He was a member of South Rock Baptist Church and was licensed through Oklahoma Horse Racing Commission.

Anderson was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Survivors include Shera (Scott) Anderson of the home; his son, John Jeffrey Anderson Jr; his mother, Ruth Dodson of Shawnee; his father and stepmother, Johnny and Debbie Anderson of Tecumseh; brother, Derek Anderson of Shawnee; a sister and brother-in-law, Haley and Nic Spencer of Shawnee; a stepsister and brother-in-law, Dana and Melvin Harris of Tecumseh, and several other relatives.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel. Kenny Kerbo will officiate. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.

The casket will be open at the funeral chapel until 1 p.m. and will not be opened after the service.

Rose Marie VanSchuyver
Rose Marie VanSchuyver, Wanette, died Saturday at a Purcell hospital at the age of 57.

She was born Oct. 21, 1943, in Norman, the daughter of AB and Marie Morrison Henderson, and grew up in Norman.

She had lived in the Wanette area for the past 31 years, having moved from Fall Brook, Calif.

In November, 1962, she and Harvey VanSchuyver were married in Gainesville, Texas.

Mrs. VanSchuyver, a homemaker, was a cook at Magna Vision. She was a Protestant.

Preceding her in death were her father; father-in-law, Troy VanSchuyver, sister, Judy Pierce, and brother, Alvin B. Henderson.

Survivors include her husband, of the home; mother, Marie Schwartz of Norman; son, Shawn of Dallas, Texas; two daughters and son-in-law, Shannon and Ronnie DeLozier of Sulphur, and Sina Compton of Norman; a brother and sister-in-law, James and Becky Henderson of Norman; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Janie and Jimmy Dietrich of Tulsa, JoAnn and Larry Bloomer of Norman and Linda and David Collins of Elmore City; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren, and a number of other relatives.

Memorial services were held Monday at Wadley's Funeral Chapel in Purcell. Earl Hood officiated.

Vera Mae Spurgin
Former Shawnee resident Vera Mae Spurgin, 78, Kansas City, Mo., died Sunday at a Lee's Summit, Mo., nursing home.

She was born May 31, 1923, in Macomb, the daughter of Linnie and Burl Harrison.

On May 4, 1946, she married Ernest N. Spurgin in Belton, Texas. They lived in Shawnee before moving to Wichita, Kan., in 1953.

She lived in Garland, Texas, for four years, after her retirement from Sedgwick County Public Works in Wichita, Kan. She was an accountant for 21 years and retired at the age of 68.

She had lived in Kansas City, Mo., for the past five years.

Preceding her in death were her husband, parents and two brothers, Roy Harrison and her infant brother, Burl Harrison.

Survivors include her two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyne and Jerry Hess of Garland, and Carla and Gene Leimkuhler of Lee's Summit; grandchildren and their spouses, Marci and Kevin Crews of Frisco, Texas; Michell Hess of Richardson, Texas; Darren and Jan Lewis of Kansas City, and Rob Lewis of Kansas City, and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at Langsford Funeral Home in Lee's Summit. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday at New Hope Baptist Church in Tecumseh.

Services will be 3 p.m. Thursday at New Hope Baptist Church. Burial will be at New Hope Baptist Cemetery.
