Laverna Deatherage
McLoud resident Laverna Deatherage, 48, passed away at her home July, 25, in McLoud.

She was born Jan. 5, 1959, in Lubbuck, Texas, to Fred Gene and Fayetta (Kaskaske) Deatherage.

She was a certified nurse's assistant. Her children and grandchildren were the love of her life.

She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Tommy and LeRoy; and two sisters, Virginia and Dolly.

Survivors include her two daughters, Angel Cole and husband, Joseph, of McLoud and Luvey Deatherage of Tecumseh; one son, Fred White of McLoud; eight grandchildren, Dorian, Conrad, Daeley, Jordan, Jase, Logan, Kyron, and Kenzie; six brothers, Harold and Elizabeth Deatherage of Tecumseh, Randall Deatherage of Oklahoma City, Curtis and Janice Deatherage of Tecumseh, Lonnie Johnson of Shawnee, Victor Deatherage, J.R. and Christine Deatherage of Tecumseh; one sister, Eloise and Tom Cowsert of Freemont, Calif.

Memorial service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Truevine Ministry in Shawnee, corner of 9th and Philadelphia.

Louis H. Webb
Longtime Shawnee resident Louis H. Webb, 77, passed away Saturday, July 28, at his residence in Wilburton, Okla., of natural causes.

He was born Aug. 21, 1929, to Otho Webb and Thelma (Griffin) Webb in Pine Valley, Okla.

He married Goldean Inman May 5, 1951, in Shawnee.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a Carpenter.

He enjoyed studying his BIBLE and building his faith.

He was proceeded in death by his parents; wife; one son, Donald Webb; two grandchildren, Jamie Webb and Derek Webb; one brother, Herman; one sister, Barbara; and two brother-in-laws, Lester and Chester Nichols.

Survivors include sons, Steve Webb and Wileen of Moore, Jim Webb and Claudia of Wilburton; grandchildren, Donna, David, Jennifer, Donnie, and Skye; six great-grandchildren; and sister, Betty Bennett.

Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Arlington Cemetery in Midwest City. Burial will follow at Arlington Cemetery.

Charles A. "Buddy" Truesdell
Shawnee resident Charles A. "Buddy" Truesdell, 75, went to be with his savior Thursday, July 26, in a local hospital.

He was born July 7, 1932, to Charles and Odean Truesdell in Maud.

He attended Shawnee High School and then attended Oklahoma A&M.

He was married to Melita for 49 years until her death July 21, 2000. He then Married Fay.

Buddy retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone after more than 24 years of service.

He was a member of Central Church of Christ, 10th and Bell, he served as a Deacon and previously as a song leader. He was also a member of OK Chorale. He loved music, especially barbershop, but most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends, relishing in his children and grandchildren. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Melita; his parents; and infant son, Charles Myron.

Survivors include wife, Fay of the home; daughter, Kathie Kraker and husband, Steve, of Tulsa; son, Charles Truesdell and wife, Patti, of Oklahoma City; grandchildren, Jeff and Jenny Kraker, and Chad and Tiffany Truesdell; sister, Mary Fleming. He is also survived by a large extended family, Chris Reynolds and Colton of Shawnee, Lee and Wendy Reynolds, Walter and Whitney of Luling, Texas, Rene and Vern Peters and Savanna of Madill, Okla., Lori and James Wells, and Kayla and Krystal of Houston, Ark.

Service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Central Church of Christ, 10th and Bell, with Mr. Dwyane Dennis officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Eugene Theodore Vail
Shawnee resident Eugene Theodore Vail, a child of God, left his earthly body and entered Heaven Friday, July 27, at the age of 85.

He was born Aug. 8, 1921, to Emer and Clara Mary Vail in Wichita, Kan.

He attended school at St. Mary's Cathedral in Wichita for 13 years, graduating at the age of 16, after which he earned a Bachelor of Science degree from The University of Oklahoma and a Master of Biological Sciences from Oklahoma State University.

Prior to World War II he entered the Navy and was serving in Honolulu, Hawaii, being there when Pearl Harbor was bombed Dec. 7, 1941. The remaining war years were spent in the Pacific islands at flight bases on Guam and Midway islands. Opting to become career military, he served 20 years at Naval Air Stations and taught physics to trainees in Norman. He then taught high school biology and chemistry in Oklahoma City, before working for Social Security Administration in Muskogee, where he retired.

Eugene and his wife moved to Shawnee in March 2005.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Elizabeth Vada Vail; brother-in-law, Bill Combs; and a nephew, William (Billy) Combs.

To celebrate loving memories, Eugene leaves his wife, Lavonne; a son, Steve Vail and wife, Leslie; grandchildren, Levi and Lauren of Greeley, Colo.; sister-in-law, Bobbie and her husband, Embree Hulsey, of Shawnee; sister-in-law, Bertha Combs of Shawnee; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Service celebrating Eugene's life will be noon Tuesday at St. Benedict Church, Shawnee. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to Walker Funeral Service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests you make donations in Eugene's memory to a charity of your choice.

Geneva Black
Longtime Seminole resident Geneva Black, 85, died Friday, July 27.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Wade Robertson officiating. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Mission Cemetery, Tecumseh.

Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

James August Hughes
Seminole resident James August Hughes, 87, died Friday, July 27, at his home.

Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Norma Tate and the Rev. Allen Wood officiating. Burial will follow at Little Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Hope (Brock) Allen
Shawnee resident Hope (Brock) Allen, 66, died Saturday, July 28, at her home.

Service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Walker Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Larry Sparks Officiating. Burial will follow at Dale Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.

Robert Jones
Chandler resident Robert Jones, 69, died Friday, July 27.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at White Dove Cemetery, Sparks.

Arrangements are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service, Chandler.

Donald Edward Bromilow
Donald Edward Bromilow, caregiver to 67 foster children, died Sunday in Earlsboro. He was 81.

Bromilow was born Aug. 13, 1921, in Highland, Calif., to Lewis and Alice Bromilow.

On July 21, 1947, he married Helen Hambrick.

Bromilow was a truck driver and a member of Victory Temple Foursquare Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Lewis Bromilow; and his wife, Helen Bromilow.

He is survived by his children, Linda Stanley of Colton, Calif., Laura Bayles of Fontana, Calif., Louise Cambroto of Rialto, Calif., Carol West of Earlsboro, Craig Atherton of Cottonwood, Ariz., Nancy Franklin of Victorville, Calif., Paul Ackerman of Corona, Calif., and Ronnie Ackerman of Skagway, Ala.; 25 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Resthaven Memorial Park, with the Rev. Don Poe officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

Velma Lee Long
Former Ada resident Velma Lee Long of Pico Rivers, Calif., died Friday in Whittier, Calif. She was 80 years old.

A service will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ada. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Shawnee.

The family will receive friends 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Criswell Funeral Home in Ada.

Long was born Feb. 20, 1923, in North Rock Creek to Charles and Mary (McDanel) Loy.

She attended Shawnee schools. She played the clarinet in the Shawnee High School band when it played at a reception for Eleanor Roosevelt.

On Sept. 12, 1939, she married Wesley Carl Long in Oklahoma. The two moved to California and remained there until 1973, when they returned to Ada. A homemaker, she was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church before she returned to California in 1996.

She was a member of St. Hilary's Catholic Church in Pico Rivera, Calif., and taught catechism classes there.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1983 and an infant daughter in 1947.

Long is survived by two daughters, Carol Baxter of Mesquite, Nev., and Lynnda Howerton of Ada; three sons, Ronald Long of San Diego, Calif., Carl Long of Moore and Wesley W. Long of West Covina, Calif.; 12 grandchildren, Carla Pearson, Robert Baxter, James Baxter, Cindy Blackburn, Kathy Baxter, Aaron Long, Pamela Long, Brenda Long, David Long, Tiffany Vanschuyver, Clarissa Mitchell and Hillary Long; and 17 great-grandchildren.
