Blanche Violet Taffe
Blanche Violet Taffe, 90, of Shawnee died Tuesday in a local nursing home.

She was born Nov. 10, 1911, in Chandlerville, Ill., the daughter of John Wesley and Lela Marguerite (Lasley) Doolittle.

Taffe was reared in and attended school in Peoria, Ill.

She was a homemaker, who married Harry Latham Taffe in 1936 in Covington, Ky.

She was a 50-year member of Eastern Star and a member of the American Baptist Church.

She lived in Shawnee since 1997.

Prior to that, she lived in Birmingham, Ala., and, for 40 years, in California.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers and a stepsister.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Debbie Taffe of Shawnee; a sister and brother-in-law, Irene and Dewey Youngman of Peoria; a grandson, Kevin Taffe of Shawnee; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dwyane Dennis officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.

Bonnie Evalee Beckett
Former longtime Seminole resident Bonnie Evalee Beckett, 87, died Monday, July 30, in Cleveland.

Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Highway Baptist Church with the Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating. Burial will follow at Little Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Dan Riley Starkey
Meeker resident Dan Riley Starkey, 64, died Tuesday, July 24, in Prague.

Service was held 11 a.m. Monday, July 30, at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home Chapel, Okmulgee, with the Rev. John Wesley Berry officiating.

Burial followed at the Okfuskee Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of McClendon-Winters Funeral Home, Okmulgee.

Mary Josephine Bond
Shawnee resident Mary Josephine Bond, 84, died Tuesday, July 31, at her home.

Visitation will be 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. today and 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday.

Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at the First Christian Church with the Rev. Milo Steffen officiating.

Burial will follow Fairview Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

James "Jamie" Bohn
Shawnee resident James "Jamie" Bohn died Monday, July 30, in his residence at the age of 63.

He was born Oct. 28, 1943, in Baltimore, Md., to James Andrew Bohn Jr. and Velma (Hoff). He graduated from the University of Maryland.

Jamie worked as the president of Stink Free Inc. in Shawnee. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a member and greeter at St. Benedict Catholic Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother, Robert Bohn.

Survivors include one brother, Mike Bohn and wife, Donna, of Strongsville, Ohio; sister, Linda Bohn of Tampa, Fla.; and step-father, Frank Jacobs of Tampa, Fla.

Service will be noon Friday at St. Benedict Catholic Church with Father Maurus Jaeb, O.S.B. officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Benedict Catholic Church, 632 N. Kickapoo, Shawnee, OK 74801.

Don H. Hendershot
Don H. Hendershot, 73, Dale, died Thursday, July 31, at his home.

He was born March 15, 1930, in Rush Springs to Roy and Goldie (Price) Hendershot.

He attended Vima Ridge until the eighth grade. He moved to Dale and graduated in 1948.

He worked in civil service at Tinker Air Force Base, retiring in 1985 after 33 years.

He married Leta Mauldin on Oct. 17, 1948, in Gainesville, Texas. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1948 to 1952 and was a member of the America Legion Post No. 16.

A resident of Dale since 1952, he was a member of Dale United Methodist Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents, one granddaughter, Sheena Parker, and one great-grandson, Taylor Parsons.

Surviving are his wife, Leta Hendershot, of the home; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Debbie Akins of Shawnee, Connie and Bud Akins of Dale, and Penny and John Claborn of Moore; seven grandchildren and spouses, April and Scott Livernois, Christy and Mike Parsons, Brock and Joe Etta Akins, Bryan Claborn, Summer Parker, Savannah Parker and Bryan and Jessica Akins; six great-grandchildren, one brother and sister-in-law, Ed and Mary Lou Hendershot; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Margaret and Jimmy Snyder and Dorothy and Donnie Palmer.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the chapel of Walker Funeral Service with the Rev. Russell Currie officiating. Burial will follow at Dale Cemetery.

Helen P. Skorkowsky
Harrah resident Helen P. Skorkowsky, 81, died Tuesday, July 31, in Midwest City, Okla.

Service will be 10 a.m. today at the Asa Smith Memorial Chapel, Harrah with the Rev. Gary Eubanks officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Lane Cemetery, Harrah.

Arrangements are under the direction of Smith~Parks Funeral Service, Harrah.

Tony Ray Williams
Lifelong Seminole resident Tony Ray Williams, 57, died Tuesday, July 31, at his home in Seminole.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Little Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Seminole Nation Honor Guard. Gary Dunson, Ted Underwood and George Mooney will be officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Gorman C. Sparks
Lifelong McLoud resident Gorman C. Sparks passed from this life on Friday, Aug. 3, in McLoud at the age of 81.

He was born Nov. 22, 1925, in Harrah to Ruben and Cora (Hurry) Sparks.

On Oct. 8, 1950, Gorman married Lois Tison in McLoud.

Gorman was a lifelong resident of the Harrah and McLoud area. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He attended Oklahoma State University, getting his degree in economics. He worked for the Oklahoma Tax Commission, for 27 years, retiring as the Assistant Director of the Motor Vehicle Division. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in McLoud, the McLoud Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club and Chaplain for the McLoud Masonic Lodge #126. Gorman enjoyed singing, playing the piano and guitar, playing with his grandkids and great-grandkids and he wrote a book.

Gorman was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Alton Curtis Sparks; three brothers and one sister.

Survivors include his wife, Lois Sparks of the home; three sons and one daughter-in-law, David W. Sparks of Wellston, Dennis W. Sparks of Harrah, and Douglas W. and Meranda Sparks of Newalla; daughter, Kathy Green, Edmond; sister-in-law, Lucille Nelson of Shawnee; ten grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of McLoud with the Rev. Bill Derrick officiating. Burial will follow at Dale Cemetery, Dale, Okla.

Aaron E. Anderson
Shawnee resident Aaron E. Anderson died Friday, Aug. 3, in a local hospital at the age of 91.

Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Sharon Baptist Church with the Rev. Clint Dawkins officiating. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.

Betty Reed Anderson
Longtime Maud resident Betty Reed Anderson, 67, died Friday, Aug. 3, at her home in Maud.

Viewing will be from noon until 7 p.m. today and 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. Monday thru Wednesday at Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home of Maud.

Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Maud with Greg Goss and the Rev. Bobby Shatto officiating. Burial will be at Cummings Cemetery in Maud under the direction of Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home.

Carolyn Sue Shivers
Prague resident Carolyn Sue Shivers died Saturday, Aug. 4, in Prague at the age of 63.

Service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at The Praise Center Assembly of God Church, Little, Okla. Burial will be in Little Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service of Prague.
