Dora M. Finley
Shawnee resident Dora M. Finley, 90, died Wednesday, Aug. 11, in Shawnee.

She was born Feb. 3, 1914, in Prague to William Rice (W.R.) Standlee and Maudie Braziel Standlee.

Finley worked as a sheet metal mechanic at McDonald Douglas in Oklahoma City during World War II.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, William "Bill" Standley, Earnest Standley, Tom Standlee and Clifford Standlee; and sister Dorothy Riggney.

She is survived by her brother, Glen and wife, Wilma, Standlee of Meeker; sister, Elzora Kelley of Norman; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Church of Christ, 10th and Shawnee, with Dwayne Standlee and Vernon Markwell officiating. Burial will be at Rossville Cemetery. Gaskill Funeral Home of Shawnee is directing arrangements.

MyCkinzie Nikole-Renee Patterson Detherage

Tecumseh resident MyCkinzie Nikole-Renee Patterson Detherage, 3, passed away Thursday, Aug. 9, in a local hospital.

She was born July 13, 2004, to Josh Detherage and Melissa Patterson in Shawnee.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Charla Patterson; great-grandparents, James Finch, George O'Berry, Bill Patterson and Glen Kyle.

Survivors include her parents, Josh Detherage and Melissa Patterson of the home; one brother, Malachi Detherage of the home; grandparents, Trevor and Sherry Patterson of Tecumseh, Brandy and Rodney Detherage of Tecumseh; great-grandparents, Sandy "Nanny" Finch of Tecumseh; Pansy Patterson-Kyle of Tecumseh; Sharron Schneider of Colorado Springs, Colo., Marsh O'Berry of Tacoma, Wash.; great-great-grandparents, Lorene and Claude Kyle of Farmersville, Calif.; Jerry and Barbara Wyatt of Rockport, Texas, Peggy Finch of Tecumseh; aunts and uncles, Jordan Detherage, Michelle and Michael Sweeten and Mitchell Patterson; other aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives and friends.

Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Chapel of Walker Funeral Service with the Rev. Ken Kerbo and the Rev. Leroy Kerbo officiating. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery.

A Memorial fund will be set up in MyCkinzie's name at BancFirst to help the family with funeral expenses.

Ruby G. Karnes
Shawnee resident Ruby G. Karnes, 94, passed away Friday, Aug. 10, in Shawnee.

She was born Oct. 28, 1912, to Harvey and Nellie Ellis in Colgate.

She married Daniel Karnes in April 1941. Following her marriage, she and her husband made their home in Dale.

He preceded her in death Dec. 23, 1966.

She worked in the cafeteria of Shawnee and Dale public schools for many years. She was a member of the Dale Church of Christ and spent many summers cooking at church camps, where she was known by all as "Grandma Ruby".

Also preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers; two sisters; and a granddaughter, Gina Casey.

Survivors include her daughter, Linda Melin of the home; son, John Karnes of the home; many grandchildren and their spouses, Klesha Noland and her companion, Doug Anderson, of Prague, Brandi and Tommy Lemons of Newcastle, Janna and Larry Warren of Shawnee, Jennifer and JW Karnes of Stratford; great-grandchildren and their spouses, Nellie Thompson and her companion, Sam Washburn and Eric Begley, all of Shawnee, Stevie Begley of Prague, Jackie Begley of Edmond, Misti Casey of Tecumseh, Tymber Casey of Shawnee, Ethan Melin, William Melin, and Crystal Lemons all of Newcastle, Hannah and Chabon Anderson of Prague; great-great-grandchildren, Samantha, Lauren, Grace, Faith, Jeremiah, Mackenzie, Jeanna, Jeremy, Tyler, Cameron and John; and two sisters, Doris Toner and Alta Kelsey both of California.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Cooper Funeral Chapel.

The Rev. Hervey Lewis Lazenby Jr.
Longtime Hyde Park resident the Rev. Hervey Lewis Lazenby Jr., 90, passed away Monday, Aug. 6.

Rev. Lazenby was born in Shawnee Feb. 14, 1917, to Hervey Lewis Lazenby and Bonnie Bishop Lazenby.

He graduated from Shawnee High School in 1935, Austin College in Sherman, Texas in 1939, and Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary in 1942.

While at seminary, Rev. Lazenby met and courted Mattie Downman Smyth. He proposed to her under the moonlight tower in Hyde Park. They were married July 21, 1942, in Austin. They had one son, Kerry Lewis Lazenby.

In 1972, Rev Lazenby returned from preaching in neighboring states to ministry in Austin. He was actively involved in Hyde Park Presbyterian Church, Wilshire Presbyterian Church, and most recently, Genesis Presbyterian Church. Rev. Lazenby was Parish Associate until his death. Sept. 24, 2006, marked the 64th anniversary of his ordination.

After retirement from the ministry, Rev. Lazenby worked at UT's Gregory Gym Store and Jester Dormitory from 1972 until 1988.

Volunteering and local theater were two of Rev. Lazenby's loves. He spent years working at Austin History Center in the biographical files department, eventually totaling over 7000 hours. Rev. Lazenby was recognized as outstanding volunteer several times in his 14 years at the Austin History Center. Mayor Will Wynn proclaimed Nov. 9, 2006, as "Hervey Lewis Lazenby, Jr. Day".

During the 1980's, Rev. Lazenby volunteered with the Hyde Park Homes Tour on Father's Day weekend. He enjoyed dressing up and telling stories of yesteryear as visitors rode the trolley from home to home.

Clown ministries, local theater, and hand bell choir took Rev. Lazenby's time in the 1980's and 1990's. He enjoyed visiting children in costume and making them laugh. He is remembered for playing the judge in "To Kill a Mockingbird" at Mary Moody Nothem Theater at St. Edward's University. At Capitol City Playhouse, Rev. Lazenby played the part of the aged grandfather in "Night of the Iguana". One of the funniest plays Rev. Lazenby was involved with was "Daddy's Dying, Who's Got the Will?" where he played Daddy. In the early 1990's, he enjoyed playing in the hand bell choir at Wilshire and Genesis Presbyterian Churches.

One of Rev. Lazenby's greatest distinctions was being the oldest member of the University of Texas Alumni Band. He took great pride in being able to march with the band on Alumni Band Day at DKR Royal Memorial Stadium. Rev. Lazenby continued playing his beloved clarinet and marching with the band until 83 years of age.

His longtime companion, Holly, an orange tabby, misses her owner. She turned up as a stray at the church 10 years ago on Christmas. Hence the name Holly.

Rev. Lazenby was preceded in death by his wife and son.

Rev. Lazenby is lovingly remembered by his daughter-in-law, Patricia Lazenby of Liberty, Texas; honorary daughter, Helen Bruner of Austin; brother, James Lazenby of Oklahoma; cousin, Virginia Lazenby of Georgetown; cousin, Mary Elizabeth Spaulding of Oklahoma; honorary grandchildren, Robyn and Harold Stanley and their children Lucretia, Maxim and Glynnis of Austin, Amy Burleson and her children Victoria and Jacquelyn of Leander, Texas, Brian and Jill Bruner and their children Brianne, Baylee, Grace, Candon, Alexandria and Christian of Jarrell, Texas.

Rev. Lazenby had scores of friends, too many to name, who will cherish his memory.

Honorary pallbearers are Brian Bruner, Harold Stanley, Bill Weathers, Robert Cooper, Gene Volcik, Don Harper, and Mary Haynes.

A memorial service conducted by good friend and minister the Rev. Gail Snodgrass will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at Genesis Presbyterian Church, 1507 Wilshire Blvd. in Austin, Texas.

Memorials in Rev. Lazenby's honor may be made to Austin History Center Association, Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, Genesis Presbyterian Church, or Longhorn Alumni Band Scholarship Fund.

Radonna Marcine (Littlehead) Blanchard
Shawnee resident Radonna Marcine (Littlehead) Blanchard, 52, passed away Sunday, August 12, at an Oklahoma City hospital.

Radonna was born Dec. 27, 1954, to Edward and Cecelian (Butler) Littlehead in Pawnee.

Radonna attended Earlsboro schools and graduated from Earlsboro high school.

She married John "Mike" Blanchard in Shawnee May 25, 1974, they enjoyed 33 years of marriage.

Radonna was a homemaker who enjoyed spending time with grandchildren and family and being outdoors. She was an animal lover especially horses.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Radonna leaves many loving memories with her family, husband, Mike; daughter, Edlyn Blanchard Marquez; granddaughters, Marissa and Melyssa Marquez; sisters, Verlayne Littlehead Wilson and Clarissa Littlehead; brothers, Edward Littlehead, Jr., Cecil Littlehead, and Ronald Littlehead; many nieces and nephews; grandchildren, and other loving relatives.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Davita Dialysis Center and Dr. Cynthia Redding in Shawnee for the care they provided Radonna for the past seven years.

Tribal Rites will be today at the Sac and Fox community building in Stroud. Burial will follow 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Clark Family Cemetery in Shawnee.

Pierce Paul Garrison
Shawnee resident Pierce Paul Garrison, 90, died Saturday, Aug. 11, at his residence.

He was born March 18, 1917, in Avant, Okla., to Pierce Peter Garrison and Tina Bell Hurley.

Pierce was a graduate of Shawnee High School.

He was married Aug. 25, 1940, in Seminole to Hazel Peterson.

Pierce served in the U.S. Marine Corp during World War II. He worked for Sun Oil Company for many years in which he traveled to and from Port Isabel, Texas, where he enjoyed fishing. Upon retirement he and his wife spent several years at their Port Isabel home until they decided to come home to Shawnee where they have spent the past 26 years. During these years he enjoyed gardening. Neighbors enjoyed his stories about the dust bowl, his life growing up and his fishing stories. He will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Rita Williams.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel Garrison of the home; and close neighbors, Milton and Joann Dickson of Shawnee.

Service will be 10 a.m. today at Resthaven Funeral Chapel with Chaplain Larry Norris officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Hester Ann Bowen
Clarksville, Ark., resident Hester Ann Bowen, 95, died Saturday, Aug. 11, in Clarksville.

Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Martin and the Rev. William Hickman officiating. Burial will follow at with burial at Williams, Ozark, Ark., under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home.

Christine Harker
Shawnee resident Christine Harker, 68, passed away Sunday, August 12, at her residence.

She was born Sept. 16, 1938, to Herbert and Odeta Roberts in Franklin County, Ky.

She retired in 2000 as a seamstress having worked at Roundhouse in Shawnee, Wrangler in Seminole, and Guy James Manufacturing in Oklahoma City.

She was active in Sunday school and the quilting group at Immanuel Baptist.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Michael Harker of the home; three sons, Paul Perkins and wife, Loraine, of Mesa, Ariz., Audie Perkins of Oklahoma City, David Perkins and wife, Kristen, of Moore; six grandchildren, Elizabeth, Melissa, Joshua, Zachary, Mark, and Jordan; Sister, Della Fowler and husband, Donald, of Aransas Pass Texas; and two step-sons, Matthew Harker of Rose, Okla., John Harker of Oklahoma.

Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Chapel of Walker Funeral Service with the Rev. Sam Hendry officiating. Burial will follow at McLoud Cemetery.
