Helen E. Taylor
Tecumseh resident Helen Taylor, 94, died Saturday in Tecumseh.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Wesley United Methodist Church of Shawnee. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home. Visitation will begin Monday at 1 p.m.
Further arrangements will be announced.
Wayne K. "Pete" Brashers
Davenport resident Wayne K. "Pete" Brashers, 75, died Wednesday, Aug. 29.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Christian Church, Davenport.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service, Chandler.
Jean Hudgins-Smith
Davenport resident Jean Hudgins-Smith, 73, died Tuesday, Aug. 31, in Davenport.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Davenport Cemetery with the Rev. Mike Mitchell officiating.
Parks Brothers Funeral Service of Chandler is in charge of arrangements.
Beulah Alice Deatherage
Shawnee resident Beulah Alice Deatherage, 95, died Friday, Aug. 31, at a local nursing home.
She was born Feb. 5, 1912, in Talco, Texas, to George Washington Blalock and Sarah (Flanagan) Serbonner.
Beulah was married Nov. 12, 1927, in Tecumseh to Luther Marvin Deatherage.
She was a housewife and homemaker and a member of Order of Eastern Star.
Beulah was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and 9 siblings.
Survivors include her six children, Marvin Deatherage of Seminole, Don Deatherage and wife, Julia, of Shawnee, Maxine Alexander and husband, Jack, of San Antonio, Texas, Marcene Massey and husband, Eugene, of Shawnee, Lou Benton and husband, Lee, of Oklahoma City, and Deanie Wells and husband, David, of Shawnee; 16 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Lorene Blalock of Vacaville, Calif.; many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Viewing will be from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday.
Service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Chapel of Walker Funeral Service with the Rev. Keith Thomas officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery.
The casket will not be opened after the service.
Dana Lee Starns
Edmond resident Dana Lee Starns, 48, passed away Thursday, Aug. 30, at her home with her family by her side.
Dana spent nearly 28 years as a civil servant at Tinker Air Force Base, but her true passions were her God, her family, and her animals.
She is preceded in death by her father, Garland Spicer.
Survivors include her husband, Larry; son, Jason and wife, April; daughter, Kristie and husband, Steve; her mother, Alice; two sisters, Becky and husband, Johnny, and Sherry; brother, Robert and wife, Laurie; eight grandchildren; numerous other family members and friends.
Service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church of Edmond.
Dana had asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Free To Live- Edmond or to the LifeLegacy Foundation.
Arrangements are under the direction of Corbett Funeral and Cremation Service, 807 W. Wilshire Blvd., Oklahoma City, 73116.
Dorothy Winifred Heins Weigant
Shawnee resident Dorothy Winifred Heins Weigant, 88, died Saturday, Sept. 1, at a local nursing home with her family by her side.
She was born Feb. 10, 1919, on the family farm in Sweet Springs, Mo., to Otto Peter Heins and Laura (Bauer) Heins.
Winnie served as a governess to the children of a Kansas City publisher and traveled widely, enjoying big band swing music and learning to play Hawaiian guitar.
During the early years of World War II she met her future husband, Dean Martin Weigant. They were married in 1942 and settled in Shawnee after the war to raise their family.
St. John Lutheran Church, in Shawnee, was a major part of Winnie's life. She worshiped, quilted, rejoiced, laughed and wept at various gatherings over the 62 years that she lived in Shawnee. She continued to participate, as she could, even while in the nursing home for the last two years of her life.
Winnie and her late husband, Dean, were both active in scouting. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother, and Dean served as Scout Master for many years at St. John Lutheran Church. Dean Weigant Park is one block from their former home on Leo Street in Shawnee. She enjoyed hiking, camping, gardening, sewing, painting, and reading.
Winnie was preceded in death by her husband; parents; four of her eight siblings, Ralph Heins, Iola H. Brouk, Marjorie H. Watts, and Esther H. Sears; and by her oldest daughter, Linda W. Burnham.
She is survived by her children, Michael Weigant of Choctaw, Marie W. Wiederkehr of El Paso, Texas, Patricia Weigant of Chapel Hill, N.C., and James Weigant of Aurora, Colo.; sisters, Ellanora H. Bokelman of Oak Grove, Mo., Laura Jean H. Herdman of Lake Lottawana, Mo., Lillian H. Kottman of Grain Valley, Mo., and Harold Heins of Fiskdale, Mass.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Viewing will be 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. today at Walker Funeral Service, 201 E. 45th Street, in Shawnee, and from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, 215 W. Wallace, Shawnee, as the casket will remain closed at the service.
Service will be 2 p.m. today at St. John Lutheran Church with the Rev. Karen Fowler-Lindemulder officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park, 5001 E. Highland, Shawnee.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, to St. John Lutheran Church or to the charity of the donor's choice.
Ruth Lowan (Cowsert) Hutchins Hart
Longtime former Konawa resident Ruth Lowan (Cowsert) Hutchins Hart passed away Monday, Sept. 3, at Colonial Estates Nursing Home, in Shawnee, at the age of 81.
She was born Dec. 6, 1925, in Konawa to Lyman Elbert and Emma Evaline (Key) Cowsert.
She graduated from Konawa High School and was the Salutatorian of her class in 1943. She held a close bond with her classmates, meeting with them at every school reunion until this year because of poor health.
After graduation, Lowan worked at the Dixie Store, Roy Stephes Garage as a bookkeeper, Oklahoma Natural Gas Company for five years as a bookkeeper and teller, Oklahoma State Bank, in Konawa, as a teller and as a bookkeeper at the Quality Materials rock quarry west of Sasakwa. In 1967, she went to work as a teller at First National Bank, in Konawa, and retired from there in 1988. At that time she stated "For 60 years, a member of the Cowsert family has been on Broadway in Konawa serving the public." Her father, Lyman, had had a furniture store and was a barber in Konawa prior to his death in 1961.
Lowan met her first husband, Edgar Carl Hutchins, while working at Oklahoma Natural Gas and they were married in the home of her parents June 9, 1950. To this union, one son, Edgar Carl "Ed" Hutchins Jr. was born. Carl preceded her in death in 1973.
She later married James E. Hart in February 1983 in Tecumseh. She and James moved to Shawnee before her retirement in 1988. Except for a short period when she and James moved back to Konawa, she spent the remainder of her life after retirement in Shawnee.
Lowan was a member of First United Methodist Church, in Konawa, for over 50 years and considered it her church home even after she moved to Shawnee. She also was a member of the Order of Eastern Star for almost 50 years and greatly enjoyed her work in that organization and with the women associated with it.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; two brothers, William and John Cowsert; two sisters, Florence Disch and Mary Lou Scoggins; and four infant brothers and sisters.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Ed and Denise Hutchins of Shawnee; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Morgan and her husband Matthew, Christina Payne and her husband Ryan, and Nick Hutchins; three great-grandchildren, Anna and Madison Terrell and Luke Morgan; one sister, Annie Mae Biege and her husband John; brother-in-law, Newton Scoggins; sister-in-law, RosaLee Cowsert; and several nieces and nephews.
Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel, in Konawa, with Pastor Johnny Stephens officiating. Burial will follow at Konawa Cemetery.
Cleta Joy Swarb
Tecumseh resident Cleta Joy Swarb, 74, passed away Saturday, Sept. 1, in a local hospital.
She was born Nov. 6, 1932, in Tecumseh, to Jimmy Lee Fulton and Virgie (Shirey) Fulton.
She graduated from Tecumseh High School.
She married Kenneth Swarb. Cleta was a supply supervisor for Kojack and retired from Shawnee Regional Hospital as a receptionist.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Tecumseh. She enjoyed traveling, casino trips and fishing.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two brothers, Billy Wayne and Jimmy Fulton.
Survivors include one daughter, Chanda Redding and Steve of Shawnee; two granddaughters, Brandy Isaacs and John of Norman and Stephanie Hall and John of Quantico, Va.; three great-grandchildren, Kylie and Cohl Bryce and Izabelle Hall; one sister, Paula Koontz; close friend, Charles Ketchie, Beth and Randy Garton and family; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel of Walker Funeral Service. Burial will follow at Brown Cemetery.
Barbara Ann (Jackson) Darr
Lifelong Seminole area resident Barbara Ann (Jackson) Darr, 54, died Friday, Aug. 31, at Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City.
Service will be 2 p.m. today at Highway Baptist Church, north of Little with the Rev. Scott Lenaburg officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.
Thomas Monroe Daughty
McLoud resident Thomas Monroe Daughty, 73, died Tuesday, Aug. 25, in McLoud.
Service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at McLoud Church of Christ. Burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery.

Willard B. Johnson
Longtime Earlsboro resident Willard B. Johnson, 60, died Tuesday, Aug. 28, at Norman Regional Hospital.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. today at Earlsboro Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.
