Charles Hamm
Shawnee resident Charles Hamm, 72, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2008, at his residence.

He was born March 20, 1935, in Castle, Okla., to Grady Hamm and Ida (Johnson) Hamm.

In 1951 he married Gertrude (Holt) in Las Vegas, Nev.

He served in the U.S. Navy for four years. He retired from Tinker Air Force Base as grounds supervisor. He enjoyed playing pool, reading, watching football, spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Bobby, Frank, and Elmer; and three sisters, Pauline, Palmer, Geneva Spear, and Loreen Shipman.

Survivors include his wife, Gertrude Hamm of the home; four children, Debra Meade and husband, Raymond, of Shawnee, Pamela Millier and husband, Pete, of Columbia, Mo., Charles Hamm Jr. and wife, Dawna, of Shawnee, and Gale Gilbert and husband, Rick, of Tulsa; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Hamm of Las Vegas; and several nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Chapel of Walker Funeral Service with the Rev. Darrell Whitten officiating. Burial will be at Castle Cemetery.

Emmett Wayne Wood
Shawnee resident Emmett Wayne Wood died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008, at his home.

Visitation will be noon until 8 p.m. today and 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. Thursday.

Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Sand Creek Eufaula Baptist Church in Wewoka with Houston Tiger officiating. Burial will be at Hawkins Family Cemetery, Wewoka.

Service is under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.

Winston Wilson
Former Chandler resident Winston Wilson, 90, died Thursday, Aug. 4, in Tulsa.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Monday at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Chandler with Chaplin Merle Newton officiating. Arrangements are being directed by Parks Brothers Funeral Service of Chandler.

Jesse Earl Norman
Okfuskee County resident Jesse Earl Norman passed away Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008, in Paden at the age of 79.

He was born Aug. 28, 1928, in Okfuskee County to Bruce and Willie Gertrude (Stout) Norman.

Mr. Norman had been a resident of Okfuskee County most all of his life having graduated from Mason High School.

He and Betty Ann Vavra were married Nov. 25, 1952, in Caldwell, Kan.

Mr. Norman worked as a farmer for many years and was also the owner of Norman's Feed in Welty. He enjoyed working outdoors, bailing hay, and cutting fire wood. Mr. Norman was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Paden.

He is survived by his two sons, Randy Norman and wife, Pam, of Paden and James Michael Norman also of Paden; one daughter, Rebecca Pennel and husband, Mark, of Paden; four grandchildren, Brandi Lynn Pennel, Miranda Leigh Norman, Billy Kyle Norman and wife, Linsey, and Jesse Kent Norman; and three great-grandchildren, Garrett Lee Norman, Libbie Ellen Smith, and Gavin Kent Norman.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Paden with the Rev. Terry Pittman officiating. Burial will follow at the Oakdale Cemetery in Paden.

Active pallbearers include Kyle Norman and Kent Norman, Nick and Kenny Allen, Leon Provaznik, Brent McGinnis, and Gene Evans.

Honorary bearers will be the Paden First Baptist Church adult men's Sunday School Class.

Service is under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Okemah.

Jenny Marie Chaffin
St. Louis, Okla. resident Jenny Marie Chaffin, 23, passed away Sunday, Jan.6, 2008, in Shawnee.

On June 23, 1984, she was born to James M. Chaffin and Tammy Jo Berry, in Shawnee.

She attended Weleetka Elementary school, Macomb Middle School and was a graduate of Graham High School.

She worked in childcare and enjoyed spending time with her friends and especially enjoyed riding horses with her friend, Nicole Cushman. Spending time with her family was important to her and she especially loved spending time with her children and her sister. Jenny also enjoyed working with computers.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Hazel Putman, Odie Putman and Frank Berry; her paternal grandfather, John Chaffin; paternal uncle, Jerry Chaffin; twin brothers, Colby and Casey Brooks; and step grandfather, John W. Brooks, III.

Survivors include her mother and step-father, Tammy Jo and Jason Brooks of St. Louis; her father, James Michael Chaffin of Okemah; sisters, Isabella Kay Brooks of St. Louis and Allison Cole Chaffin of Okemah; brother, James Chaffin of Okemah; sons, Everett Michael Porter of St. Louis and Adrian Blake Chaffin of Wetumka; special friends, Nate Parker and Pam Doty and numerous other relatives and friends.

Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with Brother Glenn Peck officiating. Burial will be at Mars Hill Cemetery.

William James "Bill" Goforth
Longtime Prague resident William James Goforth died Tuesday, July 10, in Prague at the age of 80.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague.

Floyd T. Northrip
Shawnee resident Floyd T. Northrip, 79, died Sunday, July 8, in Shawnee.

He was born Jan. 22, 1928, to R.A. Northrip and Edna Northrip. He was raised in California and moved back to Oklahoma in 1972.

Floyd belonged to Downtown Pentecostal Holiness Church in Shawnee.

He was preceded in death by his father, brother, and sister.

Survivors include his mother, Edna Northrip; sisters, Victoria Behnke of Oregon, Adell Thompson of California, Odell Barfield of Shawnee; many nieces and nephews.

There are no services scheduled.

Helen Laverne Hastings
Longtime Shawnee resident Helen Laverne Hastings, 81, died Monday, July 2, at Solara Hospital.

She was born on December 11, 1925, to William Frank and Arlene (Tucker) Allen in Comanche.

She married Walter Premo and they enjoyed 27 years together before he passed away in 1965. She then married Ruel "Ray" Hastings and they were married nine years.

She loved her family more than anything. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her life. She also enjoyed traveling.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Walter and Ray; sister, Betty Allen, and son-in-law, Jack Kroth.

Survivors include her children, Billy Jack Premo and wife, Peggy, of Midwest City, Dianna Wiersum and husband, Bruce, of Kenosha, Wis., and Barbara Kroth of Shawnee; Siblings, Billie Avery, Maxine Bean, Jimmy Allen, Patricia Allen, and Kay Tomlinson; Grandchildren, James and Scott Premo, Dana Wright, Nancy Wiersum, Sandra DiGirolamo, Kyla Custar, and Brian Kroth; great- grandchildren, Jessie and Rylie Premo, Stephanie and Alec DiGirolamo, Austin and Adyson Custar; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members. The family would like to give a special thanks to her physicians and the wonderful staff on the 2nd floor of Solara Hospital.

A private family service will be held.

Alyce L. Dawson
Shawnee resident Alyce Dawson, 62, passed away Friday, July 6, at her home following a lengthy illness.

She was born Sept. 16, 1944, in Hereford, Texas, to John T. and Vinita McClain.

Alyce was married in 1969 to Robert Dawson who is currently a professor at Oklahoma Baptist University.

She continued her career as an elementary school teacher in a number of school districts in both Texas and Oklahoma. She was a fourth grade teacher at Cross-Timbers in Tecumseh from 1986 to 2004. Alyce retired after 33 years of teaching in 2004. During her final year, she was honored by being named the teacher of the year and by being awarded the Lola C. Durham award for excellence in teaching for the second time.

Alyce was an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church where she taught fifth graders in Sunday School for more than 20 years. She retired only three weeks prior to her death. Her other interests included the Woman's Missionary Union of her church, her family, gardening, and sewing.

She was preceded in death by her parents and by a brother, Harold D. Moore of Wildorado, Texas.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Dawson of Shawnee; her children, Jeremy Dawson of Hollywood, Calif., and Alissa Dawson of Oklahoma City; four sisters, Darlene Truman of Amarillo, Texas, Joyce Lewellyn of Nampa, Idaho, Kathryn Montgomery, of Alpharetta, Ga., and Neta Harrell, of Mont Claire, Calif.; brother, Donald T. Moore, of Rio Piedras, Puerta Rico; a host of nieces and nephews.

Casket will be open for viewing until Thursday evening and will not be opened at services.

Her memorial service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Raley Chapel on the campus of Oklahoma Baptist University with Dr. Todd Fisher, pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be directed to Mission Shawnee, PO Box 1223, Shawnee, OK, 74802; or to Good Shepherd Chapel in care of Immanuel Baptist Church, 1101 E. Main, Shawnee.

Willa Faye Parsons
Longtime Seminole and Shawnee area resident Willa Faye Parsons, 80, passed away Sunday, July 8, at her home in Tulsa with her family by her side.

Mrs. Parsons was born August 2, 1926, at Wildhorse, Oklahoma, to Campbell Wallace and Janie Ruth (Farmer) Smith. She was raised in the Seminole and Shawnee areas before she moved to Tulsa in 1994.

She was married Nov. 6, 1946, in Pawhuska to Odis M. Parsons. He preceded her in death in 1993.

Willa Faye was a longtime manager for the Handy Dandy Convenience Store Chain in Tecumseh and Shawnee stores until her retirement.

She also was preceded in death by her parents, Campbell Wallace and Janie Ruth Smith, and seven brothers and sisters.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Jerry Baxter of Tulsa; one son and daughter-in-law, Darrell and Susan Parsons of Shawnee; grandchildren, Bob Baxter and Robbie Baxter of Tulsa, Ronnie and John Parsons of Seminole, and Emily and Amanda Parsons of Shawnee; great-grandchildren, Brandi and Brandon Baxter of Tulsa, and Ethan and Liberty Parsons of Seminole; and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside service are planned for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Little Cemetery, Seminole County.
