Elizabeth Jean (Betty) Doty Lawhon
Elizabeth Jean (Betty) Doty Lawhon, 90, died Sunday, July 8, in Oklahoma City.

She was born September 3, 1916, in Oklahoma City to Olin and Ada Doty, who were charter members of Wesley United Methodist Church.

Elizabeth was married Aug. 11, 1934, to John Lewis Lawhon. They spent most of their married life in Shawnee where they raised three daughters.

Her husband, and at various times all three daughters, were employed by the Shawnee News-Star in Shawnee. After John's retirement in 1978, they returned to their childhood home in Oklahoma City. Elizabeth was an active member of the Methodist church. During her lifetime she attended Wesley, St. Luke's, and Village Methodist in Oklahoma City and St. Paul's Methodist in Shawnee. As well as being a homemaker she was an active mother to her daughters by participating in PTA, Camp Fire Girls, and the Shawnee Mother's Club. She worked outside the home for the first time at age 46. She retired from Hershey Foods in Oklahoma City in 1981.

After returning to Oklahoma City, following John's retirement, she was active in several bridge clubs, book clubs and enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, John Lewis Lawhon, deceased in 1998 at the age of 86; her parents; and a grandson, Dale Patrick Parker.

She is survived by three daughters, Barbara Jean Parker of Oklahoma City, Suzanne and Bob Jobe of Muskogee, and Mary Jane Lawhon and Paul Cornett of Bailey, Colo.; sister Ruth Van Dun of Oklahoma City; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and three great- great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at Smith and Kernke Funeral Home, 1401 NW 23rd.

Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Wesley United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park.

Memorial gifts may be made to Full Life Hospice, L.L.C., 4500 N. Lincoln Blvd, Oklahoma City, OK 73105.

Arrangements are under the direction of Smith and Kernke funeral Directors of Oklahoma City.

Hazel Jones
Shawnee resident Hazel Jones, 86, died Sunday, July 8, at her home.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Walker Funeral Service Chapel with Bro. Bill Matthews officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.

Betty "Lulu" Johnson
Longtime Seminole resident Betty "Lulu" Johnson died Sunday, July 8, at Seminole Medical Center at the age of 72.

Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Little Cemetery with Bruce Benson and Nita Morland officiating.

Service under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Clarence Owen
Chandler resident Clarence Owen, 89, died Tuesday, July 3.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 21, at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Chandler. Arrangements under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service of Chandler.

Eric Nathan Cosby
Eric "Nathan" Cosby was called home by our Father Saturday, July 7, in the pediatric intensive care unit at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa after a 15 month battle with cancer.

He was gifted to his mama July 23, 1991, in El Paso, Texas. He was chosen by his daddy April 30, 2003, in the office of the Honorable Judge Jan Dreiling. On July 17, 2004, Nathan was "Born Again" after being led to the alter by his best friends, Matt Allen and Kyle Jaquess.

He was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandfather, Virgil Eugene "Old Man Papa" Fletcher and his maternal great-grandmother Zelva Leah "Ma Dear" Anderson; and cousin Neal Warner Anderson.

Nathan is survived by his parents, Monty and Leah Cosby; two brothers, Bryan Cosby of Pawhuska and Travis Cosby of the home; two sisters, Tara Price of Barnsdall and Taylor Cosby of the home; paternal grandfather Bruce Cosby and his wife, Jerri of West Monroe, La.; paternal grandmother, Susie Starr and her husband, Brite of Grainola, Okla.; maternal grandparents, Ferrell and Karen Fletcher of Shawnee; maternal great-grandmother, Anna Mae Fletcher of Yukon; maternal great-grandfather, Arnold "Andy" Jackson and his wife, Dottie of Shawnee.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in the First Baptist Church in Barnsdall with Bro. Brian Long officiating. Interment will be in the Ethel Reece Cemetery under the direction of Stumpff Funeral Home in Barnsdall

Friends may donate to the Nathan Cosby Fund at the Barnsdall State Bank, P. O. Box 529, Barnsdall, Okla., 74002.

Dixie Wagner
Shawnee resident Dixie Wagner, 70, died Monday in Shawnee.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Rock Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Zimmer officiating. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery.

The family will meet friends at the funeral home from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Other information is pending and will be announced Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Loel T. Bryan
Former Bowlegs and Shawnee area resident Loel (Grisso) (Terry) Bryan, 91, died May 31 in Winchester, Va.

Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Terry McKeown of Winchester and Kay Terry Jaeschke of Deale, Md.; one son, Gerald Donald Terry of Sarasota, Fla.; one brother, Lloyd Wesley Grisso of Moab, Utah; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Graveside services were held Tuesday at Fort Lincoln Cemetery in Gladensburg, Md., under the direction of Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, in Winchester, Va.

Memorials may be made to a favorite church or charity.

Evelyn Kaye Thompson
Evelyn Kaye Thompson, 51, of Harrah died Sunday in Idabel.

Survivors include her husband, Joe Thompson of Harrah; her mother, Leona Flynn of Apache; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sherrie and Kenny Boston of Harrah and Kimberly and Donald Sutton of Midwest City; three brothers, Herman Dennington of Gold Hill, Ore., Donald Dennington of Apache and Delbert Dennington of Apache; three grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Asa Smith Memorial Chapel in Harrah. Burial will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Byars Cemetery in Byars. Services are under the direction of Smith~Parks Funeral Service of Harrah.

James Earnest Campbell
Former Maud resident James "Sonny" Earnest Campbell, 72, Ponca City, died Sunday in Ponca City.

Survivors include a son, Richard Campbell of Ponca City; two brothers, Charles Campbell of Burbank, Calif., and Joe Campbell of Little Rock, Ark.; and two granddaughters.

Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Cummings Cemetery in Maud with the Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating. Services are under the direction of Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home in Maud.

Lois Newell
Lois "Taylor" Newell, 92, of Wilson and former resident of the Wanette/Pearson area, died Monday in Wilson.

Survivors include daughters, Viola Ferguson of Wilson, Midge Freytag of Plano, Texas, Nancy Newell of Ventura, Calif., and Ann Newell of Lewisville, Texas; sons, Bob Newell of Gordonville, Texas, David Newell of Denton, Texas, Johnny Newell of Springer and Billie Newell of Ardmore; brother, Joe Taylor of Norman; 27 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Service will be 10 a.m. today at the chapel of Alexander Funeral Home in Wilson with the Rev. Ronnie Turner officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. today at Wanette Cemetery.

Service is under the direction of Alexander Funeral Home of Wilson.

Ralph Wade Edmundson
Ralph Wade Edmundson, 82, of Shawnee died Monday at a local hospital.

He was born July 7, 1921, in Shawnee to Herbert Spencer and Cora Florence (Houchin) Edmundson.

He graduated from Shawnee High School and lived in Shawnee all his life, except for six years when he lived in Holdenville in the 1960s.

Edmundson operated a dairy farm until 1960 and then ran a restaurant in Holdenville for four years. He moved back to Shawnee and worked in the public school system as a janitor and bus driver before retiring.

On July 29, 1942, he married Christine Bybee in Shawnee.

He had been a member of Immanuel Baptist Church since 1950.

Edmundson was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter in 1945 and one sister.

Survivors include his wife, Christine Edmundson of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Robbie and Dennis Partlow of Yukon and Linda and Jim Russell of Shawnee; one son, Edward Edmundson of Las Cruces, N.M.; two brothers, Arthur Blaine Edmundson of Stillwater and Alfred Edmundson of Reno, Nev.; one sister, Edith Sweden of Stillwater; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the chapel of Walker Funeral Service with the Rev. Sam Hendry officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Walker Funeral Service of Shawnee.

Ruth G. Ellis
Stroud resident Ruth Genevieve (Hawsey) Ellis, 73, died Friday at her home.

Survivors include two sons, Richard Kirby Ellis, Lakeland, Fla. and Paul Kelly Ellis of Stroud; three daughters, Kathryn Horn of Germany and Linda Ellis and Elizabeth Ellis, both of Stroud; two brothers, Rex Hawsey of Lakeland, Fla., Billy Ray Hawsey of Thontosassa, Fla.; three sisters, Edna Fay Mann of Winter Haven, Fla., Mary Miller of Thontosassa, Fla., and Barbara Howard of Wesley Chapel, Fla..; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Louis Catholic Church of Stroud with the Rev. David Lafferty officiating. Burial will follow in the Stroud Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service of Stroud.

Alma Ola Shaw
Alma Ola Shaw, 80, of Fort Gibson died Saturday in a Tulsa Hospital.

She is survived by three daughters, Debra Downey of Fort Gibson and Carla Dixon and Darla Kelley, both of Konawa; two foster daughters, Christine Camp and Debbie Wheeler; a foster son, Amen Camp; 20 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Konawa Cemetery with the Rev. Kelly Payne officiating. Services are under the direction of Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home in Konawa.

Vauna Lee Dykeman
Vauna Lee (Skaggs) Dykeman, 69, of Stroud died Sunday in Tulsa.

She is survived by her husband, Howard of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Richard C. and Holly Dykeman of Lake Clear, N.Y., Jimmy H. and Tammy Dykeman of Depew and Douglas M. and Joyce Dykeman of Sand Springs; two daughters and sons-in-law, Vicki and Lee McGlothin of Wagoner and Tammy and Carson Wolff of Stroud; a brother, Dorman Skaggs of Bristow; and eight grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. today at the First Freewill Baptist Church in Bristow with the Rev. Gene Jackson officiating. Burial will follow at Stroud Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Stroud.

Hazel Annabelle Clark
Hazel Annabelle Clark, 82, of Konawa died Sunday at a local hospital.

She is survived by a son, Clemence B. Clark of Wynne, Ark.; three daughters, Wanda Lee Crenshaw and Donna Kay Clark, both of Konawa, and Virginia Lansdell, of Ashdown, Ark.; a brother, Louis Kennedy of Van Nuys, Calif.; four sisters, Flossie Engle of Resida, Calif., Effie Smith of DeQueen, Ark., Vi Littrell of Idabel and Zelma Crosby of Ventura, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. today at Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Pam Shirk officiating. Services are under the direction of Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home in Konawa.
