Effie Olevia Williams
Effie Olevia Williams, 98, of Shawnee died Friday, June 25, at a local nursing home.

She was born Aug. 5, 1905, in Birmingham, Ala., to James William "Billy" Denham and Leola (Amason) Denham.

She married Clifton F. Williams on Aug. 5, 1969, in Shawnee.

She was a homemaker and worked for a short time at a nursing home in California.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Norma Lee Barnes; son, Harold Henry; two brothers and one sister.

Survivors include children, Rosie Bennett of Seminole, Johnnie Grove of El Reno, J. Bill Henry of Hurst, Texas, and Bob Henry of Amarillo, Texas; stepchildren, Thomas V. Williams, Delores Boudreaux, Myrtle Dupre and Clifton F. Williams Jr.; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other family.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Liberty Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bill Matthews and Phil Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Services are under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

William "Burt" Miller
William "Burt" Miller, 57, of Shawnee died Wednesday, June 23, at his residence.

He was born June 25, 1946, in New Bedford, Mass., to Col. Austin and Clem Miller. He graduated from Irvine High School in El Paso, Texas. He earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Texas at El Paso in 1968 and a master's degree from Oklahoma City University.

He was manager of computer services for Canadian Valley Electric.

He married Dee (Kenoyer) Miller on Oct. 11, 1969, in El Paso.

He entered the military at Fort Bliss, Texas, when his father pinned on his second lieutenant bars March 7, 1969. He served one year in Vietnam, earning three bronze stars, three with valor, along with the Meritorious Service Award. He retired from the reserves as a major in 1988.

He was instrumental in bringing soccer to Shawnee and Shawnee High School.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Dee Miller, of the home; son, Stephen Miller of Shawnee; mother-in-law, Elsie Kenoyer of Shawnee; brother, Austin E. "Bud" Miller of Richmond, Va.; sister, Sylvia Bambola of Florida, and numerous other relatives.

Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Walker Funeral Service Chapel, with the Rev. Robert Bray officiating. A private burial is planned.

Charles Howard Pine
Charles Howard Pine of Shawnee died Wednesday, June 23, at an Oklahoma City hospital. He was 85.

He was born Oct. 25, 1918, in Bluffs, Ill., to Grant Stanley Pine and Della (Hill) Pine. The family moved to Okmulgee in 1924, where he attended school through junior college. He lived in Shawnee most of his life, moving here in 1941.

He was a right-of-way procurer for oil and natural gas companies.

He married Betty Jane Roberts on Oct. 12, 1941, in Okmulgee.

While working at the Tulsa Boeing Plant, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force on Nov. 7, 1942. He served 14 months in the European Theater and was discharged Feb. 5, 1946.

He was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church and Lions Club.

Survivors include his wife, Betty R. Pine of Shawnee; daughter, Marilyn P. Moseley of Glen Carbon, Ill.; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy P. and Richard K. Robbins of Mill Valley, Calif.; grandsons, Zachary A. Robbins and Lucas H. Robbins; brother and sister-in-law, MacDonald and Maxine Pine of Springfield, Ill.; brother, Robert Pine of Houston, and many other relatives.

A private memorial service will be in Mill Valley, Calif.

Memorial donations may be made to the Emmanuel Episcopal Church or the American Lung Association. Arrangements are under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.

Wanda Mae Shipman
Wanda Mae Shipman, 84, of Shawnee died Tuesday at a local nursing home.

She is survived by two sisters, Jennie Isabel Blandin of Farmington, N.M., and Catherine Davis of Winfield, Kan.; three children, Vonceil Harmon of Oklahoma City, James Shipman of Oklahoma City and Suzanne Shipman of Tecumseh; and three grandchildren, Christina Shipman, Kelsey Van Horn and Corey McCage.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Golden Rule Nursing Home, with the Rev. Bill Shields officiating.

Nellie Jackson
Nellie Marie Shackelford Jackson died Saturday.

She was born June 9, 1909, in Seymour, Texas.

Nellie was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Milton Julius Jackson; sisters, Edrie Belle Myers, Jessie Phaby, Frankie Reid and Grace Schmitz; and brothers, Wilmer A., Aubrey W. and Ira J. Shackelford.

Surviving relatives include her two children, Fred Milton Jackson of DeSoto, Texas, and Carole Jeannette Newsom of Austin, Texas; son-in-law, Conrad "Fritz" Newsom; sister, Pearl Mills of Springdale, Ark.; grandchildren and their spouses, Fred Jackson Jr. of Maryville, Calif., Victoria Miller of Austin, Lincoln Miller and wife Tina of Cary, N.C., Jefferson Miller and wife Michelle of Richardson, and David Miller and wife Lisa of Austin; seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and two great-great-grandchildren. Several of the grandchildren are from the Shawnee area.

Jackson and her husband lived most of their married life in Chickasha, where they operated The Snow White Laundry for more than 20 years.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. today at Wilke-Clay-Fish Funeral Home in Austin, Texas, with the Rev. Rhoda Montgomery officiating. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday in Chickasha.

Freda Merl Junk
Freda Merl Junk, 88, passed away Saturday, June 23, surrounded by her family.

She is loved and deeply missed by her husband of 66 years, Kenneth Joseph Junk; son, Dan Junk; three daughters, Jo Mondier, Betty Cochran, Judy Riggs; 13 granddaughters; two great-granddaughters; four great-grandsons; and sister, Imogene Reeves.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today with a Rosary recited at 7 p.m. at Klein Funeral Home, 16131 Champion Forest Drive, Spring, Texas.

A funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 27, at Christ The Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 18511 Klein Church Road, Spring, Texas.

Visitation and Rosary will be held Friday, June 29, at 7:30 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home in Shawnee.

The Rite of Committal will be held at Calvary Cemetery, in Shawnee, 10 a.m. Saturday, June 30.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Calvary Cemetery Fund.

Paul Anthony Compton
Shawnee resident Paul Anthony Compton, 45, passed away Friday, June 22.

He was born Oct. 2, 1961, to John and Vivian (Goff) Compton in Lindsay, Calif.

Paul loved computers and music.

He was preceded in death by his mother and brother, Gerald Skinner

Survivors include his father, John Compton of McAlester; brother, Daniel Compton of McAlester; sister, Brenda Colbert; special friend, Aletha Middleton of the home; two dogs, Sadie and Candie; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A private family service will be held.

Lucille Krause
Shawnee resident Lucille Krause, 84, died Monday June 25, in Oklahoma City.

Service is pending under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.

Leo Amos Alexander
Konawa resident Leo Amos Alexander, 72, died Saturday, June 23.

Wake service will be held tonight at High Springs Indian Baptist Church in Konawa.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at High Springs Indian Baptist Church with the Rev. Dorsey Nero and the Rev. Houston Tiger officiating. Burial will follow at Vamoosa Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Konawa.

Cynthia Denise Chandler
Longtime Seminole resident Cynthia Denise Chandler, 45, died Sunday, June 24, at Select Specialty Hospital, Oklahoma City.

She was born Nov. 12, 1961, in Cushing to Samuel Laffoon and Rose Marie (Weinsauer) Kelner.

At the age of 6 years old, she moved from Eufaula to Seminole. She graduated in 1980 from Bowlegs High School and in 1991 she received her Bachelor of Science degree from East Central.

On Aug. 24, 1981, she married Raymond Chandler in Seminole.

Cynthia was an elementary school teacher for the last 17 years, teaching 13 years at Earlsboro School and four years at Strothers Schools.

She was a member of El Shaddai Temple in the Strothers area, Earlsboro Techers Association and Oklahoma Education Association.

Her life centered around her church, her family and her teaching of children.

Survivors include her husband, Raymond Chandler of the home; mother, Rosie Marie Kelner of Bowlegs; father Sam Laffoon of Shawnee; one son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Melissa Chandler of Seminole; one daughter and son-in-law, Kristen and Joshua White of Seminole; two brothers, Sam Laffoon Jr. of Oklahoma City and Daniel Laffoon of Shreveport, La.

No funeral service is planned at this time. Friends and family are encouraged to come by the funeral home and sign the guest book.
