Anna Y. Brooks
Anna Y. Brooks, 86, of Norman died Tuesday, January 7th , at
Norman Regional Hospital. Visitation will be held at
Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman, on Thursday, January
9th from 700 to 900 p.m. Services will be held on Monday,
January 13th at Lafferty Funeral Home in West Union, Ohio
with burial at Locust Grove Cemetery. Local arrangements are
under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman.
Mrs. Brooks was born November 11, 1916, in Seaman, Ohio,
the daughter of William E. Rhoades and Inez (Milligan)
Rhoades. She grew up in southern Ohio where she met her
future husband, Vernon H. Brooks at a baseball game. They
were married March 11th , 1942 in Paris, Kentucky. Following
World War II, they moved to Dayton, Ohio where Vernon
worked for the Frigidaire Corporation and she was a
homemaker. They lived in Dayton and a suburb, Kettering, for
some 40 years. In 1989, a few years after her husband's
death, Anna moved to Norman to reside near her son.
Mrs. Brooks was preceded in death by her parents, husband,
and brother, Harold L. Rhoades. She is survived by her son,
Robert L. Brooks, his wife Pamela, and three grandchildren,
Erin, Colin, and Kelsie.

John L. Bumgarner
John L. Bumgarner, 80, of Norman, Oklahoma, died Monday, January
20, 2003 in Norman, Oklahoma. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M.,
Wednesday, January 22, 2003 at McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church in
Norman, Oklahoma with Reverend Cal Brannon officiating. Interment will follow
at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Norman, Oklahoma. Services are under the
direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman, Oklahoma
Mr. Bumgarner was born January 29, 1922 in Norman,
Oklahoma, to John Lee and Leona Stogner Bumgarner. He grew up
in Norman and graduated from Norman High School. He graduated
from the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelors in History, later
receiving a Masters in Education Administration also from the
University of Oklahoma. Mr. Bumgarner married Sadie Margaret
Covington on February 15, 1946. During World War II, he served
with the United States Army Air Force. He started teaching at
Pleasant Grove Schools near Seminole, Oklahoma for one year and
returned to Norman. Mr. Bumgarner served for a number of years as
principal at McKinley Elementary and was principal for twelve years
at West Jr. High. He then returned to McKinley and served as
principal until his retirement in May 1982. He was a charter member
of the Norman Sooner Lions. He was also a member of the
Oklahoma Education Association and the National Education
Association. Mr. Bumgarner was a member of McFarlin Memorial
United Methodist Church in Norman, serving as the Chairman of the
Board of Directors of the Kindergarten at McFarlin. Mr. Bumgarner
loved playing golf and was an avid O.U. fan.
Mr. Bumgarner was preceded in death by his parents, and two
sisters, Betty Lou Chase and Helen Kammerlocher. Survivors
include his wife, Sadie of the home; two daughters, Mary June Joseph
and husband, Joe of Satellite Beach, FL and Linda Lippe and
husband, Dennis of Austin, TX; one sister, Mary Ann Jahnke and
husband, H.R. of Henderson, Nevada; two brothers, Robert
Bumgarner and wife, Sharon of Phoenix, AZ and Phillip Bumgarner
and wife, Cathey of Bradenton, FL; and four grandsons, Joseph
Joseph III, Aaron John Lippe, Tyler Joseph Lippe and Calvin James
Lippe.
The family has designated the music program at McFarlin

James John Doherty
James John Doherty, 65, of Norman, Oklahoma, died
Thursday, January 2, 2003 in Norman, Oklahoma. Visitation will be
from 9:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Monday, January 6, 2003 at
Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman. Memorial Services will be
held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, January 7, 2003 at St. Joseph Catholic
Church Parish Center Chapel in Norman with Deacon Jeff Willard
officiating. Graveside service will follow at 1:00 P.M. at the Ft. Sill
National Cemetery in Elgin, Oklahoma with full military honors.
Pallbearers will be Ed Perry, Dennis McNally, Phil McNally, Glen
Wanzer, Leon Crowley and Chris Doherty. Honorary Bearers will be
the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard. Services are under the direction of
Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman, Oklahoma.
Mr. Doherty was born August 1, 1937, in Hermosa Beach,
California, to Robert E. and Margaret McGlynn Doherty. Jim
graduated from Junipero Serra High School in Gardena, California.
He received a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from
Loyola University in Los Angeles, California. He was a veteran of
the United States Air Force, serving his country for twenty-one years.
Jim served one tour in Vietnam flying reconnaissance missions in the
RF-4C.
Mr. Doherty was preceded in death by his parents and one
brother, Robert E. Doherty, Jr. Survivors include his wife, Patricia of
the home; two sons, Brian of Norman, OK and Patrick of Houston,
TX; and a sister, Michelle O’Brien and husband, Hugh, of Torrance,
CA.

Darryl Wayne Elms
Darryl Wayne Elms, 42, died Thursday, Jan. 9 in Norman.
Services will be held Monday, January 13 at 2 p.m. at Havenbrook
Funeral Home in Norman with the Rev. Cal Brannon officiating.
Burial will be at the Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Norman.
Havenbrook Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Mr. Elms was born Jan. 26, 1960, in
Norman, to Don and Shirley (Moody) Elms. He was a lifelong Norman
resident and attended Norman Public Schools. Mr. Elms was
an auto mechanic by trade and worked for Brown's Garage for
many years. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting
and fishing.
Mr. Elms was preceded in death by his father, Don Elms.
Mr. Elms is survived by his mother, Shirley Elms; brother, Terry
Elms and his wife Donette of Norman; sisters, Tina Day and
her husband Bruce of Nichols Hills, Autumn Brown and her
husband Kendall of Edmond; maternal grandmother, Mae Paul
of Purcell; four nieces, one nephew, and many other family
members.
Bearers will be Larry Terry, Rick Logan, Russell Logan, Merrl
Shingler, John Sager, and Les Sager.

Michael David Fitzgerald
Michael David Fitzgerald, 51, of Norman, died Saturday,
January 4, 2002 in Norman, Oklahoma. Memorial Services will be
held at 3:00p.m., Wednesday, January 8, 2003 at the Havenbrook
Funeral Home Chapel in Norman, with Mr. John Gifford officiating.
Services are under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of
Norman.
Mr. Fitzgerald was born May 17, 1951 in Edmond, Oklahoma
to Tom and Vella Mae Moore Fitzgerald. He grew up in Ardmore,
Oklahoma where he was raised by his grandmother, the late, Minnie
Dillard Franklin. He attended Ardmore Public Schools and also
attended Murray State College in Tishomingo, Oklahoma. Afterward,
he attended the University of Oklahoma in Norman, where he studied
Special Education and received Summa Cum Laude and was a
member of the Golden Key Honor Society. Michael married Carolyn
Pruitt on March 27, 1970 in Gainsville, Texas. He moved to Norman
form Ardmore in 1975. He played in the band “Xcentrix”, as lead
guitarist, was a computer consultant and an oil and gas broker.
Mr. Fitzgerald was preceded in death by his father-in-law,
Daniel Byrd Pruitt. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn, of the home;
one son Michael Cord Fitzgerald and fiancée, Joanne Reed, of
Norman, Oklahoma; one daughter, Carrie Mechelle Leonard and
husband, Jason of Norman, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Corbin
James Leonard and Colin Jake Leonard of Norman, Oklahoma and
mother-in-law, Mary Pruitt of Ardmore, Oklahoma.
