SSG (Retired) Evert B. Crow

Age 78, Lawton - Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday in the Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Steven Massey, officiating.

Sergeant Crow died Friday in a local hospital.

Visitation Sunday 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home

Burial with full military honors will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

He was born March 8, 1928 in Ninnekah, OK to Frank and Beatrice (Willoughby) Crow. He retired from the Army in December of 1968 with 23 years of service. He earned 2 Overseas Bars, Good Conduct Medal with 6th Award, and the National Defense Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster. He was a member of the VFW, DAV, AMVETS, and a Life Member of the American Legion. He married Faith Perry on March 8, 1967 in Wichita Falls, TX.

Survivors include his wife of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert Crow and Lori of Lawton; 2 daughters and a son-in-law, Deborah and Wayne Mudd of Lampasas, TX, and Betty Haskins of PA; 5 stepchildren, Robert Wright of Lawton, Kenneth Wright and his wife Linda, Ronald Wright and his wife Sherry, Karen Geiger and her husband Bernie all of PA, and Sharon Massey and her husband Richard of Midwest City, OK; 20 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; a sister, Tiny Nickolow; and 5 brothers, Gene Wayne, Don, Otis, Roy, and Dave Crow.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a son Lonnie Crow; a daughter, Priscilla Beesley; 3 brothers, Charles, Jim, and Albert Crow; and 2 sisters, Dean Ferguson and Cynthia Coxsey.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 3160 Britton Rd., Oklahoma City, OK, 73120.

Ethel E. “Kit” Keating

Age 98, Lawton - Graveside service will be 10:00 AM Friday at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Rev. Al Potts, Pastor, First United Methodist Church, officiating.

Mrs. Keating died Tuesday in a local care center.

Burial will be under the direction of Becker Funeral Home.

She was born on June 14, 1908 in Bloomington, Illinois to Oscar and Anna Erickson. She grew up in the Andover Children’s Home in Andover, Illinois after her mother died in 1914. She attended the Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing in Moline, Illinois. During World War II she was a civilian employee of the U.S. Navy in Chicago. She married LTC (Retired) Paul G. Keating in 1948 in Fort Sill’s Old Post Chapel. He died February 13, 1992. She was an artist and was a charter member of the Lawton-Fort Sill Art Council.

Survivors include her nephew, John Engstrom of Eastham, Massachusetts; her niece, Judy Murray of Olympia, Washington; and their families.

Her parents, husband, 3 sisters, Marie, Olga and her twin, Elsa, and a brother, Clifford, preceded her in death.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 2602 NW Ferris, Lawton, Oklahoma 73505 or to the Lawton-Fort Sill Art Council, PO Box 592, Lawton, Oklahoma 73502.

Loren W. Mayer

Age 79, Lawton - Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin.

Mr. Mayer died Monday in a local hospital.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Becker Funeral Home.

The family will meet at 9:30 AM Thursday at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.

He was born January 30, 1928 in Rochester, New York to Florence Mayer. He joined the Army in July of 1947 and retired in 1967 after serving over 20 years. He married Elizabeth Just on April 15, 1956 in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. He was a member of VFW Post #5263 in Lawton.

He is survived by his wife of the home; 3 siblings, Eleanor Thornton, John Connolly and Rosemary Cooper; and special friends, Mathew Gentry and Erna Trcka.

DeLouris “Dee” Powell

Age 68, Lawton - Services will be 10:00 AM Monday in the Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Rev. Dr. Daniel A. Martin, Chaplain, Hospice of Southwest Oklahoma, officiating.

Mrs. Powell died Thursday, September 6, 2007 at her home.

Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 – 5:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home.

She was born on November 5, 1938 in Detroit, Michigan to Milford W. and Inez (Perry) Johnson. She married Louis Powell in Lawton on December 24, 1955. She owned and operated Dee’s House of Charm from 1974 until 2007. She was a member of the Elk’s Doe’s, the VFW Auxiliary and the National Barrel Horse Association.

Survivors include her husband of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Vicki Rogers and Gary of Central High, and Sharon Perrigo and David of Conway, Arkansas; nine grandchildren, Courtney Shepard and her husband, Jim, Chad L. Rogers and his wife, Jennifer, Sara Hammond and her husband, Buddy, Laurie, Jason, Tyler, Riley, Brick and Mason Perrigo; three great grandchildren, Gracie Michelle Harris, McKain Hammond and McKayla Hammond; a sister, Betty Cates of Lawton; a brother and sister-in-law, Charles Johnson and Charlene of Lawton; and numerous other nieces and nephews.

Her parents and two brothers, Bobby and Douglas Johnson, preceded her in death.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Southwest Oklahoma, PO Box 2074, Lawton, Oklahoma 73502.

Gladys P. (Jackie) Maples

Age 100, Lawton - Funeral services will be 1:30 PM Thursday at Cameron Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Jones, pastor officiating.

Mrs. Maples died Monday in Lawton.

Burial will be in Waurika Cemetery in Waurika under the direction of Becker Funeral Home.

She was born June 4, 1907 in Bowie, Texas to George Washington and Rosa Etta (Miller) Ball. She married Hugh Maples on February 3, 1936 in Frederick. He died December 8, 1983. Mrs. Maples loved cooking, gardening and her flowers. She played dominos and bingo and enjoyed singing and going to church. She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Red Hat Society.

Survivors include two sisters, Neisha Foster and Lanell Powell, both of Madill, a brother, Harold Ball, Cummings, Georgia and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was like a mother to Robert and Charlene Maples.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1320 NW Homestead Drive, Suite D, Lawton, OK 73505.
She is preceded in death by four sisters and five brothers.

Vernon Klein

The funeral service will be held on Friday May 25, 2007 at 10:00 am in the First Baptist Church with Reverend Tom Willoughby, Associate Pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of the Becker Funeral Home.

Mr. Klein was born July 16, 1924 to Gottfried and Emma Schoenhals Klein in Shattuck, Oklahoma. He graduated from Shattuck High and attended Oklahoma State University. Mr. Klein was a veteran of World War II serving in the South Pacific and receiving a Purple Heart. He married Patricia G. Klein on August 7, 1948 in Sayre, Oklahoma.

Mr. Klein and his family moved to Lawton in 1954. He was founder and owner of a transportation firm and a distributor of heavy duty trucks, farm and construction equipment. Mr. Klein made numerous contributions to charitable and civic organizations. He served as a Deacon of First Baptist Church and past Chairman of the Deacon Body, a past Lieutenant Governor of Kiwanis for Oklahoma and Texas, a member of Kiwanis for over forty years and a past member of the board of the Museum of the Great Plains.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia G. Klein, three sons and daughters-in-laws; Thomas D. and Jean Klein of Vail, Colorado, Dick and Sally Klein of Lawton, Chuck and Stacy Klein of Clovis, California, one daughter, K. Suzanne Cummings and Brett Drewry of Lawton, ten grandchildren; Anneliese Belisle, Lindsay Klein, Tanna Cummings, Connor Klein, Carter Klein, Austin Klein, Sierra Klein, Collin Klein, Tristan Klein and Braxtan Klein, two great grandchildren, Jay Dostal and Will Belisle, a brother and sister-in-law, Roy L. and Mary Klein of Fallbrook, California, a sister-in-law, Anne Kerrick of Lawton and several nephews and nieces.

His parents, a son, James Vernon Klein, and great grandchild, Alex Dostal, preceded him in death.

KATHERINE (KAY) WADE CAREY

Age 65, Lawton, Graveside services will be at 10:00 am Friday in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Carey died Wednesday in Lawton.

Burial will be under the direction of the Becker Funeral Home.

She was born January 29, 1939 in Lawton to George Curtis and Lela Mae (Griggs) Wade. She was a 1958 graduate of Lawton High School. She and her sister, Margaret Akiona, operated the snack bar at Comanche County Memorial Hospital from 1960 until 1976 and owned and operated the snack bar at the Comanche County Court House from 1976 until 1991. She was a member of Central Baptist Church and the Pioneer Club.

Survivors include three sisters, Roberta Mitchell and husband Leon, Margaret Akiona and Pat McKelvey, all of Lawton; two nieces, Shelley Simonsen and Kim McKelvey, both of Lawton; a nephew, Marty McKelvey, Lawton; a two great nephews, Severin and Gunnar Simonsen and two great nieces, Emily and Riann McKelvey, all of Lawton.

Goldie K. Frost

Age 79, Lawton, Funeral Services will be at 1:30 PM Wednesday at the Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Lehew and Rev. Charles Baggett officiating.

Mrs. Frost died Monday, October 4, 2004 in Lawton.

Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

She was born July 11, 1925 in Marlow, Oklahoma to W. W. and Ellen Wylie Fleming. She married C. A. Frost on November 9, 1942 in Lawton. He died July 6, 1991. She spent most of her life in Lawton. She was the owner-operator of BO-KA Flowers until health forced her retirement in 1989. She was an active member and past president of Will Rogers Elementary PTA. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, where she served as church hostess and treasurer. She also taught the Women’s Bible Class for 20 years. She was a longtime softball coach.

Survivors include two sons; Ron and his wife Suzanne, Edmond, and David and his wife Rita, Lawton, a daughter; Carolyn Winburn and her husband Jim, Duncan, nine grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, a sister; Lorena George, Walsh, Colorado, a sister-in-law; Charlene Fleming, Lawton, and numerous nieces and nephews.
