Charles P. Ross
Charles P. Ross of Norman,
Oklahoma, departed this earth on
Monday, February 10, 2003, five weeks
shy of his 93rd birthday. Funeral services
will be held Thursday at 10:00 a.m.,
February 13, 2003, at Havenbrook
Funeral Home in Norman with Reverend
Phil Fenn officiating. Burial will follow
at Norman IOOF Cemetery.
Mr. Ross was born on St. Patrick's Day,
March 17, 1910, in a one-room cabin
outside of Carrollton, Mississippi, to Andrew and Florence Ross.
Charles was one of nine children. At the age of 14 he left school,
the Mississippi Delta cotton fields and hopped a freight to
California to seek a better life. On November 25, 1933 he married
Betty Westervelt.
In 1935 they moved back to Oklahoma where he went to
work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. He attended the
University of Oklahoma, and in 1956 he went to work as a GS-13
supervisory electronic engineer for the Department of Air Force,
Southern Communication Area at Tinker Air Force Base, retiring
in 1974.
In 1988 his beloved wife, Betty preceded him in death.
Also preceding him were his parents, four brothers and three
sisters.
Charles is survived by two sons, Lanny and his wife, Janet
of Clinton, Oklahoma and John and his wife, Ann of Norman,
Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Karie Ross Dombrowski and
husband, Dave of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan; Jeffrey Ross and
wife, Amy of Clinton, Oklahoma, Lisa Ross Grobmyer and
husband, Jimmy of St. Petersburg, Florida, Jennifer Ross Taylor
and husband, Marc of Mansfield, Texas and Lindsay Ross Lee and
husband, Ian of Mansfield, Texas; and his nine great
grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister Bessie Pond of West
Palm Beach, Florida; a sister-in-law, Nan Westervelt of Norman,
Oklahoma and a Special Friend, Joy Massey of Norman,
Oklahoma. .
The family requests that contributions may be made to the
American Lung Association of Oklahoma at 3160 W. Britton Rd.

JoEva (Burton) SAND
SAND, JoEva (Burton) went peacefully
to be with her Lord on Friday, February
28, 2003, from her home of the last two
years at her middle daughter's residence
in Norman. She was embraced by love,
comfort and prayers, with her children at
her side. She struggled valiantly with
Alzheimer's disease for fourteen years
before finally giving up the fight. JoEva
was born August 2, 1922, in Minco,
married the love of her life, Harrold
Frederick (Shorty) Sand on July 17, 1940 in El Reno, OK. They
enjoyed forty-two years of marriage together before Harold passed
from his earthly life in October 1982.
She was also predeceased by her mother and father; sister,
Margaret Burton Jones, El Reno, OK; brother, Garold Burton,
Roswell, NM. and infant brother and sister Paul and Ila Pauline
Burton, Minco, OK. She is survived by four children; Sharon Sand
Stone and husband Cecil, Hermitage TN; Harold Sand and wife
Sharron, Wagoner OK; Gwen Sand Wharton and husband Bart,
Norman OK; and Jan Sand Melton and husband Phil, Henderson
TN; sister, Edna Burton Bowers, El Reno, OK; a loving legacy of
nine grandchildren; Cyndi Stone Holland (Ken), Scott Stone and
Jane, Randy Sand and Teresa, Lisa Sand Hornberger and Todd,
Jeff Briscoe and Kim, Malinda Tmog and Ross, Pam Wharton
Ledgerwood and Jim, Shari Wharton Calia, and Lisa Wharton
Mattich and Jeff; nineteen beloved great-grandchildren; Mitch and
Hailey Holland, Alana and Jenna Stone, Randy, Steven and Staci
Sand, Billy and Brennan Hutchens, Brian, Mitch and Amia
Homburger, Amber and Ryan Ledgerwood, Brett Wilson, Katrina
and Connor Calia, Natalie and Blake Mattich, and "granddaughter
by love", Jennifer Gibson; five sisters-in-law, which include her
"sisters of the heart", Lorena Swaffar and Phyllis Burton; and a
host of nieces, nephews and friends.
JoEva was employed by Penney Termite Company as
office manager for many years where she e-grandmother, sister
and aunt. She was a long-time member of Putnam City Baptist and
Millwood Baptist Church. Her faith and Christian values were
evident in her daily life to all that knew her. The family would
like to thank Dr. Tom Merrill and nurse Pam for adding love and
support to the professional care provided to their Mother. There
are no words to describe the love, care, devotion and spiritual
support we received from the wonderful team at Carter Hospice of
Oklahoma City; especially Nurse Liz, Chaplain Mary and Aide
Janice. Thank you for helping JoEva to maintain the highest
possible level of dignity, comfort, and quality of life. Particular
affection is in our hearts for special friends Lonnie Moore, Brenda

Magdalen Elizabeth Schaefer
Magdalen Elizabeth Schaefer, 75, of
Norman, Oklahoma, died Friday, February
14, 2003 in Norman, Oklahoma. A Vigil
will be held Monday, February 17, 2003, at
7:30 p.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church,
with Deacon Jeff Willard officiating. Mass
of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30
a.m., Tuesday, February 18, 2003 at St.
Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Edward
Menasco officiating. Interment will follow
at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Norman, Oklahoma.
Pallbearers will be George Jansing, Jon Jansing, Benny Jansing,
Larry Morris, Lynn Morris and Gene Alexander. Honorary
pallbearers will be George Schaefer and Greg Jansing. Services are
under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman,
Oklahoma.
Mrs. Schaefer was born September 28, 1927 in Norman, OK,
to Ben D. and Lena Frances Hoffelder Jansing. She married Donovan
John Schaefer in Norman on April 11, 1953. She worked as a medical
secretary for Dr. Fred C. Buffington, Dr. Hal Belnap, Dr. Jerry Lue,
Dr. J. Kin Pirtle and Dr. Gary Livingston. She enjoyed needlepoint,
sewing and fishing. They went to Ontario, Canada each year to fish.
She also enjoyed her pet dog, Maxwell. Mrs. Schaefer was a member
of the Golden Agers Group at St. Joseph Catholic Church. She lived
in Norman all her life.
Mrs. Schaefer was preceded in death by her parents, Ben D.
and Lena Frances Hoffelder Jansing; sister, Clara Ann Jansing
Russell; brother, Earl; and Juanita Jansing. Survivors include her
husband, Donovan, of the home, a son, Alan D. Schaefer and wife,
Kimberly D., of Norman, OK; a sister, Helen C. Jansing Morris and
husband, Lonnie, of Norman; a brother, Bernard D. Jansing and wife,
Frances, of Norman; and a brother-in-law, James L. Russell of
Norman.

Loreta Ann Waller
Loreta Ann Waller, 86, of Norman,
Oklahoma died Friday, February 21, 2003
in Norman. Funeral Services will be held
at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 25, 2003
at McFarlin Memorial United Methodist
Church in Norman, Oklahoma with
Reverend Phil Fenn officiating. Burial will
follow at the Nowata Memorial Cemetery
in Nowata, Oklahoma. The family will be
available to welcome family and friends
from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Monday evening, February 24, 2003
at Havenbrook Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be John Davis and
James Moore and grandsons, Jonathan Stapp, Josh Moore, Jeremy
Davis and William Waller. Services are under the direction of
Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman.
Mrs. Waller was born July 18, 1916 to H. J. and LuCreta Hill
Deardorff in Jasper, Missouri. In 1926, the family moved to the
Nowata area of Oklahoma, where Loreta attended school. She
graduated from high school in 1936 and completed her college
education at Northeastern State College in Tahlequah, Oklahoma.
Loreta married William A. Waller on December 29, 1939 in
Claremore, Oklahoma. She started her teaching career in Nowata and
along with her husband, Bill, taught at a number of schools
throughout the state. She moved to Norman in 1960 from Buffalo
Valley, Oklahoma. In 1960, Loreta began teaching first grade at John
Adams Elementary School in Norman. She continued to start first
graders on the road to knowledge in the same classroom for 24 years,
retiring in 1984, with a total of 42 years in teaching. She was a
lifelong Methodist, a proud fifty year member of Eastern Star and was
active in the teaching sorority, Kappa Kappa Iota.
Mrs. Waller was preceded in death by her husband, William
A. Waller and by her brother, Jerome Deardorff. She is survived by
a sister, Alma Lee Shell, of Topeka, Kansas; daughter, Sherrye Moore
and her husband, James, of Norman; sons, Billy K. Waller, of Davis
and Roger D. Waller, of Norman; daughter, Sandy Davis and her
husband, John, of Norman; step-daughter, Madella White and her
husband, David, of Sullivan, Missouri; grandchildren: Shelley Ivey,
Rebecca and Josh Moore; Jonathan Stapp, Sarah and Jeremy Davis;
Courtney, Lindsey, William, Ashley, Hayley and Kelsey Waller;
great-grandchildren: Shawney and Brandon Ivey; Paige Moore and
