William David Ruble

TAHLEQUAH -- Services for William David "Bill" Ruble will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 15, 2004, at the Hart Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Virgil Holcomb officiating. Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Council Hill Cemetery in Council Hill.

Bill Ruble was born one of three children to Paul and Charlotte (Hornett) Ruble-Hart on Sept. 24, 1938, in Tahlequah, and passed away May 9, 2004, in Orange, Calif., after reaching the age of 65 years, 7 months and 15 days.

He was born at Hastings Indian Hospital in Tahlequah, and graduated from Tahlequah High School, where he played on the football team. He was baptized in the First Baptist Church of Tahlequah on Nov. 7, 1948. After retiring in 2000, Bill spent much of his time with local friends and neighbors. His garage became a late afternoon and Saturday gathering place, complete with television, chairs, hot dogs, cigars and refreshments. The echo of their laughter and good times lingers.

To Bill, life was not so complicated. He had established clear priorities: Family and friends always came first. He was genuine, unassuming, honest, decent, unselfish and caring; and he possessed a delightful sense of humor. Those who knew him well also discovered his sensitivity and gentleness. Among his favorite things were the Oklahoma Sooner football team, and a little gray schnauzer named Cody who accompanied him daily to a local coffee shop.

He was loved and respected by all who knew him.
