Lew Wisdom

Age 82, Lawton - Funeral services will be 12:30 pm Wednesday in the Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Rev. Wayne Schoonover, pastor, Liberty Heights Chapel, officiating.

Mr. Wisdom died Sunday at a local hospital.

Family will receive friends Tuesday at the funeral home from 6-8 pm.

Burial with Masonic Rites and Military Honors will be at Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, OK under the direction of Becker Funeral Home.

He was born April 29, 1924 in Thalia, TX to Andrew Burton “A.B.” and Lillie Dora (Giraudin) Wisdom. He was a graduate of Thalia High School. He served in the Army Air Corps in World War II. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant while serving in the Pacific Theater. He owned and operated Wisdom Sewing Machine until his retirement in 2003. He was a member of the Masonic Blue Lodge of Thalia, TX, the Knights Templar of Vernon, TX, and the Lawton Shrine Club and Oriental Band Unit. He married Dorothy J. Willis on March 10, 1944 in Bryan, TX.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jim and Cindy Wisdom of Lawton, and Mickey Wisdom of Escondido, CA; daughter, Laura Rusch of Houston, TX; 4 grandchildren, Jamie and Aaron Pennington, Luke Wisdom, and Lew Wisdom; 3 great grandchildren, A.J. Pennington, Courtney Pennington, and McKinsey Wisdom; and a brother, Jake Wisdom of Thalia, TX.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Sandra Philley; and 5 brothers.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Transportation Fund, India Shrine Center, 3601NW 36th St., Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, 73112.

Theresa P. Enko

Funeral service for former Lawton/Fort Sill resident Theresa P. Enko, 86,will be at 1:30 PM Thursday in the Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Rev. James D.M. Stafford, Pastor of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church officiating.

Mrs. Enko died Saturday at her residence in El Paso, TX.

Burial will be in Post Cemetery, Fort Sill, OK.

*** The family will greet friends Wednesday evening from 6pm to 8pm at the funeral home. ***

She was born January 27, 1920 in Burlington, Vermont to Lawrence E. and Lillian (Basilere) Westbrook. She married CSM Edward Enko on March 20, 1939 in Colchester, Vermont. He preceded her in death on April 10, 1997. They were long time residents of Lawton and Fort Sill, OK. Theresa was active in the American Red Cross at Reynolds Army Hospital, Fort Sill for many years. She is a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary 1192.

Mrs. Enko is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Doris Hall of Burlington, VT and Veronica Oliver and her husband Stanley of Phoenix, AZ, her sons CW4 (Retired) Rodney E. Enko and his wife Isabel of El Paso, TX, Michael E. Enko and his wife Cheryl of Clermont, FL, and William (Chuck) Enko of Clermont, FL. Nine grandchildren, Rodney E. Enko II, Mary-Theresa Aird, Annaliesa Mason, Melissa Enko, Christina Snow, Tiffany Enko, MSG Calvin Brocksmith, Kerwin Brocksmith and Pamela Cline. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren.

Ruby Mae Biggs

Age 89, Fletcher - Services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday in the First Christian Church, Cyril, with Don Ray Williams and Rev. Kirk Smethers, officiating.

Mrs. Biggs died Tuesday, January 23, 2007 in Fort Worth, Texas.

Burial will be in the Fletcher Cemetery under the direction of Becker Funeral Home of Fletcher (Formerly Robbins Funeral Home).

Ruby was born May 21, 1917 in Clinton, Arkansas, to Lyon and Lessie Roach. Her parents moved to the farm 2 ½ miles west of Fletcher when she was seven years old. Living with a relative, she graduated from high school in Chickasha. She married Thurman E. “Pott” Biggs on December 24, 1935 in Lawton. They lived in Cyril for 25 years and moved back to the family farm in 1965 where they remained until her recent illness.

During World War II she worked in Thurman’s place in the chemical lab at Apco Refinery and later worked at the Anadarko Clinic, the Cyril Clinic, Jones Drug Store and Bud’s Grocery. She was a member of Eastern Star and First Christian Church, Cyril, and also participated in numerous community activities.

She shared her talents of gardening and cooking generously with family and friends and will be remembered for her warm, caring personality.

She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Thurman E. "Pott" Biggs, ofthe home, two daughters and sons in law, Sue and Joe King, Fort Worth, Texas, and Betty and Jesse McMichael, Athens, Texas; four grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

MSG (Retired) Earnest Paul Roscoe

Age 88, Lawton - Graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the Post Cemetery, Fort Sill, with Rev. Bob Jones, Pastor, Cameron Baptist Church, officiating.

Sergeant Roscoe died Monday in Lawton.

Burial with full military honors will be in the Post Cemetery, Fort Sill, under the direction of the Becker Funeral Home.

He was born August 4, 1918 in Eustace, Texas, to Alex P. and Katy Canova Roscoe. He grew up in Texas and enlisted in the U.S. Army on August 8, 1935. He was a veteran of World War II and was retired from the Army on June 1, 1962 at Fort Sill. Following his retirement he worked for Civil Service at Fort Sill.

He married Sylvia Hensley on January 3, 1953 at Wichita Falls, Texas. She preceded him in death on August 9, 2003. He had been a member of Cameron Baptist Church since 1959. He had served as a Sunday school teacher for the men’s and boy’s classes as well as chairman of the usher committee and as a church receptionist. During his younger years he worked as a minor league umpire.

He is survived by a daughter, Glenda Marie McDougall, Lawton; a brother, Richard Roscoe, Texas; two sisters, Kathy Jackson and Barnez Clark, both of Texas; five grandchildren, Sherri Wilkerson, Rhonda Manning, Mark Adams, Paula Rocha and Robby Robson; 15 great grandchildren.

Three brothers preceded him in death.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cameron Baptist Church Building Fund, 2621 SW C Avenue, Lawton OK 73505.

Harold “Hal” Fox

Age 79, Lawton - Services will be 10:00 AM Saturday in the First Baptist Church with Dr. William F. Watkins, Associate Pastor, officiating.

Mr. Fox died Wednesday at his home.

Burial will be at 2:00 PM in the Yukon Cemetery, Yukon, under the direction of the Becker Funeral Home.

He was born on December 27, 1927 in Olustee to Hadley and Beatrice (Brown) Fox. He married Clydena Stout in Rockwall, Texas on July 4, 1948. He was a retired insurance agent. He was a member and a greeter at First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary D. and Jean M. Fox of Sequin, Texas; two grandchildren, Haley Ann Fox and Benjamin Hadley Fox, both of Seguin, Texas; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Calvin Fox and Virginia of Oakhurst, California and Carbrie Fox and Pat of Clovis, California; a sister-in-law, Martha Coit and her husband, Rex, of Ninnekah; and numerous nieces and nephews.

His parents, a brother, Larry Fox, and a sister, Patty Lou Stevens, preceded him in death.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, 501 SW ‘B’ Avenue, Lawton, Oklahoma 73501 or to the American Cancer Society, 1320 NW Homestead Drive, Lawton, Oklahoma 73505.

MSG (Retired) John L. Ables

Age 66, Lawton - Services will be 1:00 PM Monday at Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin with Rev. Lloyd Grubbs, pastor of Trinity Assembly of God officiating.

Sgt Ables died Thursday.

Burial with full military honors will be under the direction of Becker Funeral Home.

He was born August 2, 1941 in Moro, Arkansas to Robert W. and Janell (Reece) Ables. He married Christel Bier in Mainz, Germany. Sgt Ables was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He served tours in Germany and Italy and retired from the Army after twenty years of service. He was a member of Trinity Assembly of God and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5263.

Survivors include his wife, of the home, a son, Robert W. Ables and his wife Connie, Ponca City, three grandchildren, Christel Laungrand, Germany, Laura Lee, Fayetteville, North Carolina and John Ables, Ponca City, four great grandchildren, two brothers, Curtis Ables and his wife Dorothy, Marianne, Arkansas and Bill Ables and his wife Nancy, Van Buren, Arkansas, three sisters, Alice Singleton, Batson, Texas, Claudia Arnold and her husband Dudley, Nederland, Texas and Robbie Rust and her husband Paul, Van Buren, Arkansas and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Donald Wayne Ables.

MAJ (Retired) Neil L. Laughy

Age 69, Lawton - Services will be 1:30 PM Friday in the Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Rev. Becky Baxter-Crowell, Pastor, Aldersgate United Methodist Church, officiating.

Major Laughy died Tuesday in a local hospital.

Inurnment with full military honors will be at 2:00 PM Saturday in the Veteran’s Field of Honor at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

He was born on February 12, 1938 in Franklin, New Hampshire to C.D. and Hesper A. (Lawrence) Laughy. He graduated from Franklin High School in 1956 and married Barbara May Wallace in Franklin on February 28, 1959. He served in the US Army and was a Senior Parachutist and jumpmaster with the 82nd Airborne Division and participated in 52 combat air assaults with the 1st Air Cavalry in Vietnam. He received numerous awards including the Bronze Star Medal with valor device and four oak leaf clusters, Purple Heart with oak leaf cluster, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal with valor device and silver oak leaf cluster, Army Commendation Medal with valor device and two oak leaf clusters, Good Conduct Medal (3rd Award), Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry (3rd Award), National Defense Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with six service stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 device, and the U.S. Presidential Unit Citation with oak leaf cluster.

He retired from the US Army and earned his Master’s Degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1976. He retired in 2000 from civil service at Fort Sill, where he worked as a Nationally Certified Counselor at the Harry S. Truman Education Center. He received the Meritorious Civilian Service Medal, Superior Civilian Service Medal and the Commanders Award for Civilian Service. As a counselor for the State of Oklahoma, he received the Award of Merit and served two terms as President of the Great Plains Chapter of the Oklahoma Public Employees Association. He and Barbara operated At the Buzzer Sports Photos since 1996 and he was a volunteer Lawton Police Sentinel from 2003 until his death. He organized and managed the Lawton Tornadoes Women’s Professional Football Team, competing nationally from 1977 through 1979. He served two four-year terms on the National Board of Directors for the Military Educators and Counselors Association. He was a member and a program presenter for the American Counseling Association and was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors include his wife of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon Simpson and Tim of Vancouver, Washington; three sons, David Laughy and his wife, Tammy, and Steven Laughy, all of Lawton, and Timothy Laughy and his wife, Jamie, of San Antonio, Texas; and ten grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Gerry Laughy and Pam of West Palm Beach, Florida.

His parents preceded him in death.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
