Mary Lee Crittenden

TAHLEQUAH -- Services for Mary Lee Crittenden, 72, of Tahlequah, will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday July 31, 2004, at the Hart Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jerry Knapper officiating. Interment will follow at the Tahlequah City Cemetery under the direction of Hart Funeral Home of Tahlequah.

Mary Lee Crittenden was born to William Lester and Effie Jane (Wilson) King on Nov. 15, 1931, in Fayetteville, Ark., and passed from this life on July 29, 2004, in Fayetteville, Ark.

Mary married Don "Chief" Crittenden in Oct. 19, 1956, in Fayetteville, Ark. In 1960, they moved to Tahlequah where they raised their three sons, Philip, Christopher and Kelly. Mary received her master's degree from Northeastern State University. She began her teaching career at Tenkiller Elementary School where she taught one year before teaching 30 years in the Hulbert Elementary Schools System. She was a member of the National Education Association, Oklahoma Education Association, and Hulbert Teacher Association. She was also a member of the River City Cloggers and a faithful member of the Tahlequah Bible Church of Tahlequah.

Her parents and one sister, Helen Virgina Spillers, precede Mary in death.

Mary is survived by her husband Don "Chief" Crittenden of Tahlequah; three sons, Philip and wife Julienne Crittenden of Tahlequah, Christopher and wife Sherry Crittenden of Cookson, and Kelly Don Crittenden of Tahlequah; one sister, Aleen Klaas of Cookson; four grandchildren, Jeremy Crittenden, Shelby Crittenden, Nick Crittenden and Conner Crittenden; many nieces, nephews; as well as a host of friends and loved ones.

James Fredrick Bunch

COOKSON - Memorial services for James Fredrick Bunch, age 70, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at the Hart Funeral Home Chapel with Mark Keeley officiating.

Serving as honorary pallbearers are John Sanders, Virgil Johnson, James "Pappy" Miller, Terry Homan, Dixie Homan, John Williams, Mike Sherman, Michael Ramirez and all his friends and fishing buddies at Caney Marina.

James Fredrick was born on Dec. 16, 1933, in Greenville, Miss., and passed from this life on July 24, 2004, in Tahlequah.

James graduated from Greenville High School. James then became an electrician.

In 1959, James began work at International Paper and retired 32 years later as the instrumentation foreman. In 1952, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy Reserve and served until 1960.

When he wasn't busy working, James could be found at his favorite fishing spot, waiting for the "big one." James loved life and everything about it. He loved to garden and raised beautiful plants; loved to go hunting; and really enjoyed a good barbecue. But he really enjoyed the time he spent with his many friends at Caney.

On July 17, 1981, James married his wife, Edith Irene Kennedy, in Missouri. They have made Cookson their home for the past five years. He was a member of the Quarter-Century Club at International Paper and was of the Presbyterian faith. James was a kind and gentle man who will be missed by all who knew him.

Both his parents precede James in death.

James is survived by his wife, Edith, of the home; three sons, James Jr., of Louisiana, Davis of Mississippi, and Dunbar of Mississippi; one sister, Dee of Kentucky; numerous grandchildren, as well as all the Caney Marina folks and his card playing buddies.

Luther Benton Kemp Jr.

FORT GIBSON -- Full military graveside services for Luther Benton Kemp Jr., 69, of Tahlequah, will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at the Fort Gibson National Cemetery under the direction of Freeman Harris Funeral Home of Tulsa.

Luther Kemp Jr. was born May 20, 1935, in Tulsa to Luther and Evonne Kemp, and died Sunday, July 25, 2004. He was a graduate of Will Rogers High School, Tulsa, and attended the University of Oklahoma, Norman. Kemp retired from the U.S. Air Force after serving one tour the Marines in Korea and two tours with the Air Force in Vietnam.

Kemp is survived by two sisters, Myra Duffell of Coweta and Suzie Springs of Rockport, Texas; two brothers, Perry Kemp of Tulsa and Joe Kemp of Oklahoma City; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Pat McCuistion

TAHLEQUAH - Patricia Joan McCuistion was born on Jan. 3, 1932 in Lincoln County, Okla., to Joe and Erie (House) Morgan. She passed from this life Saturday July 24, 2004, in Tahlequah at the age of 72 years.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Earl, of the home; a daughter, Judy Beck; a son, Jerry McCuistion; two brothers, Kenneth Morgan and Jerry Morgan; four grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 am Tuesday at Reed-Culver Chapel with Brother Randall Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Park Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will include, Steve Beck, Phillip Beck, Jerry Morgan, Dan Cavin, Tim Cavin and Miquel Becerra.

Dorothy Evelyn Smith

TAHLEQUAH -Dorothy Evelyn Smith passed from this life Friday, July 23, 2004, in Tahlequah at the age of 75 years.

She was born Oct. 12, 1928, in Briggs, Okla., to David and Geneva (Brown) Cobb.

Surviving Dorothy are her husband, Joseph Smith; two daughters, Billie Jo Downing and Carolyn Gale Elkins and her husband, Jay; two sons, Charles Paul Poteet and wife Kathy, and Billy James Leigh and wife Syenthea; four sisters, Irene Stephens, Betty Jones, Judy Jackson and Pauline Fry; two brothers, Leonard Cobb and Junior Cobb; 19 grandchildren, Billy, Tammy, Curtis, Serena, Ronnie, Dorothy (Bip), Tony, Don, Charlie, Johnny, Corina, Marissa, Charles, MiRanda, Tyler, Isaac, Clinton, Daniel and Michael; and 26 great-grandchildren.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Welma Sue Wright; and a brother, Buddy Cobb.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at the Reed-Culver Chapel with Rev. Ronnie Ford officiating. Interment will follow in Cobb Cemetery.

Pallbearers include, Gary Smith, Edwin Jasperson, Daniel Leigh, Clinton Leigh, John Goff and Charles Collins. Honorary pallbearers will include Billy Dunn, Ronnie Hobbs and Stevie Jones.

Blynn Ivan 'Sonny' Spears

TAHLEQUAH - Blynn Ivan "Sonny" Spears was born on Nov. 28, 1929 to Daniel Eli (D.E.) and Theta Lethal (Kile) Spears. He went to meet Jesus on Friday, July 23, 2004 in Tahlequah at the age of 74. Blynn graduated from Tahlequah High School in 1947 and attended Northeastern State College. He retired from the U. S. Postal Service as a Rural Route (Pony Express) Carrier in 1985 after 33 years of loyal service, of which he took one day of sick leave. Blynn owned and operated 2-S Saddle Shop for 25 years. He was a member of the Central Church of Christ. He enjoyed his life as a husband, father, sportsman and horseman. He was president of the Tahlequah Round-Up Club, a member of the American Quarter Horse Association, the American Paint Horse Association and the International Order of Odd Fellows. He was also a mentor for many 4-H members where he coached the Drill Team for many years.

Blynn is survived by his wife Margie Violet (Wilkey) Spears of 56 happy years. Also surviving Blynn are his children, James Edward Spears and wife Jackie of Tahlequah, John Alan Spears of Oakland, Calif., Patti Ayala and husband Jesse of Tahlequah; two grandchildren, Leah Rachelle Spears, of Fayetteville, Ark., and Craig Patrick Spears of Tahlequah; five step-grandchildren, Malinda Kaiser and husband Albert of Round Rock, Texas, Monica Soffera and husband Troy of Killeen, Texas, Melissa Robichaud of Austin, Texas, Breque Parnell of Fort Gibson, and Kaleb Parnell of Tahlequah; two great-grandchildren, Abrielle Kaiser of Round Rock, Texas, and Legan Robichaud of Austin, Texas; his brothers, Jack Spears of Tahlequah, Zach Spears of Okemah; a sister, Norma (Spears) Reeves of Austin, Texas; two very special "daughters", Tanya Moody of Copan, Sarah Brown of Pocatello, Idaho; and a special "grandson" Cory Brown of Pocatello, Idaho, and a host of nieces, nephews, many friends and loved ones.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday, July 26, 2004 at Reed-Culver Chapel with Dan Melhus officiating. Burial will follow at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Hulbert, Okla. under the direction of Reed-Culver Funeral Home. Pallbearers will include Kenny Adams, Mike Chastain, Tom Hix, David Spears, Kerry Spears and Ed Campbell. Honorary pallbearers will include Red Fuller, Jim Loftin, Rusty Carroll, Leo Stinnett, Bryan Hix, Mark Hix, G.V. Gulager, Randy Coles, Tom Speake, Hack Neff, Raymond Morrison and Randy Jones.
