Thomas "Tom" Garrett Calico

TAHLEQUAH - Thomas (Tom) Garrett Calico, was born July 18, 1920 in Tahlequah, to James Bedford and Ollie (Long) Calico. He passed away Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004, in Muskogee, at the age of 83.

Tom owned and operated Calico's Cafe in Tahlequah. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II. Tom enjoyed the outdoors and loved to coon hunt and fish. He was a member of the General Baptist Church of Tahlequah and the Elks Lodge and Veterans of Foreign Wars of Tahlequah.

Tom was preceded in death by his first wife, Eula (Anderson) Calico; his parents, J.B. and Ollie Calico; four brothers, Lem Calico, Gene Calico, Wallace Calico and Henry Calico.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy Calico, of the home; a daughter, Patricia (Calico) Morton of Tahlequah; a son, Jay T. Calico and his wife, Jorja, of Albuquerque, N.M.; nine stepchildren, Johnny Ballard, Loraina Eden, Anna James, Miller Ballard, Barbara Ziyada, Wendy Ballard, Debbie Davis, Alva Ballard and Chris Jones; three sisters, Dimple Woods and Cleva Woodard, both of Tahlequah, and Maxine Rogers of Tulsa; six grandchildren, Jayson Morton, Kristin Parker, Alicia Beasley, Justin Calico, Aaron Grant and Ashley Sisco; and five great-grandchildren, 24 step-grandchildren, 18 step-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be at the Tahlequah City Cemetery on Friday, Feb. 20, 2004, under the direction of Reed-Culver Funeral Home with Rev. Berneil Rogers officiating. Pallbearers will be Jayson Morton, Justin Calico, Jack Parker, Brian Beasley, Aaron Grant and Daniel Eden. Honorary pallbearers will include: Ritchie Gay, John Eden, Johnny Ballard, Miller Ballard, Alva Ballard and Chris Jones.

Richard Eugene Shaw

TAHLEQUAH -- Richard Eugene Shaw was born Jan. 4, 1965, in Van Buren, Ark. to Richard Leroy and Beverly (Patterson) Shaw. He passed away Monday, Feb. 16, 2004 in Tahlequah, at the age of 39 years.

Richard is survived by his wife Patricia of the home; his parents Richard Shaw and Beverly Nash; two brothers, Robert Wendell Shaw and James Darrell Shaw; four step-sons, Jamie Bruce Lee Smith, James Dean Smith, Patrick Wayne Brinley and Anthony Daniel Brinley.

Private family services will be held at a later date.

William Joseph Champlain Jr.

TAHLEQUAH -- William Joseph Champlain Jr., of Tahlequah, was born Feb. 6, 1936, and passed away Feb. 18, 2004, at Muskogee Regional Medical Center. He was the son of William Joseph Champlain Sr. and Vivian Beatrice Scott Champlain of Tahlequah.

He was preceded in death by a son, John Clayton Champlain; a stepson, Richard M. Sims; brothers, Ronald D. Champlain and Robert Champlain of Tahlequah; and a sister, Leatrice Champlain.

He is survived by wife Janie Marie New Champlain; son, William Jay Champlain; daughters, Cathryn Rene' Champlain Chadwell and Kendall Sue Champlain Merritt; stepdaughters, Robin L. Sims and Theresa M. Sims Erkaya; brothers, Thomas Champlain, Dale Champlain and James Champlain; sisters, Janice Champlain, Virginia Champlain and Lillian B. Champlain; and 19 grandchildren.

The family has planned private graveside services.

Reginald Jay Hart

LOCUST GROVE -- Services for Reginald Jay Hart, 53, will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Feb. 20, 2004, at Ballou Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Ballou Cemetery under the direction of Hart Funeral Home.

Reggie was born one of three children to Jay C. and Pauline (Hilb) Hart on Nov. 1, 1950, in Claremore, and passed from this life on Feb. 14, 2004, in Vinita.

Reggie attended Northeastern State University where he obtained his degree in literature. Reggie was passionate about reading and writing, and composed poetry and short stories. Reggie was also avid music fan of the Beatles and enjoyed listing to "oldies but goodies" music. He will be missed by all who loved him.

His grandmother, Maggie Martin in 1988; and his father, J.C. Hart in 1994; precede Reggie in death.

Reggie is survived by his mother, Pauline Vance-Hilb of Kanakee, Ill.; five sisters, Carlis Hart Willy of Tulsa, Sandy Lambert and husband Ron, Marlene Brant and husband Derek, Debbie Fozzard, and Cindy Korn all of Kanakee, Ill.; three brothers, Gary Hart of Tulsa, George Fozzard and wife Sheryl, and Jerry Fozzard all of Kanakee, Ill.; numerous cousins and uncles; as well as a host of friends and loved ones.

Clyde Loren Kerr

BRUSHY MOUNTAIN -- Graveside services for Clyde Loren Kerr, 78, of Tahlequah, will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 20. 2004, in the Brushy Mountain Cemetery, Muskogee. Honorary pallbearers are Henry Robinson, Kevin Skinner, and Robert Green. Interment is under the care of Green Country Funeral Home.

Born on Jan. 25, 1926, the son of Luther and Elmira Mullins Kerr, Clyde passed away on Feb. 17, 2004, at Tahlequah City Hospital. Clyde enjoyed talking on his CB radio. He liked to tinker and work on lawnmowers; he liked to be outside, especially fishing and camping.

Preceding him in death are his parents; his second wife, Mildred Kerr; grandson, Lloyd Bechtol; sister, Josephine Bechtol; and a brother, Beacher Kerr.

He is survived by his children: Betty J. Teaney of Boudinot, Barbara Stevens of Howe, and Jimmie Lee Kerr and Joanna Drywater of Tahlequah; their mother Bessie Teague; his grandchildren: Clyde "C.H." Bechtol, Riley Bechtol, April Teaney and Litha Craft; step-grandchildren, Anthony and Amanda Drywater; a brother, Fred Lindsey of Missouri; as well as a host of other relatives, friends and loved ones.

Joe Lee Terrapin

TAHLEQUAH - Joe Lee Terrapin was born to Lee and Sally (Cochran) Terrapin on July 12, 1963, in Tahlequah. He passed away on Feb. 17, 2004, at his home in Welling. Joe was an employee of Greenleaf Nursery at Park Hill.

Joe is survived by his parents; a daughter, Jessica; one sister, Nellie Terrapin; three uncles, Charlie Cochran, J. D. Cochran and Andy Cochran; four aunts, Lizzie Teehee, JoAnn Smith, Dollie May Jones and Callie Terrapin; and his cousins, Jennie Terrapin, Archie Terrapin, William Patrick, Jesse Jones, Henry McClain and Roseanna Jones and a host of friends and loved ones.

Services are to be held on Feb. 20, 2004, at Reed-Culver Funeral Home Chapel at 10 a.m. Burial will be at Barber Cemetery.

Ada Geneva Holden-Draper

TAHLEQUAH -- Services for Ada Geneva Holden-Draper, 80, of Tahlequah, will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 28, 2004, at the Hart Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Arlis Moon, of the Calvary Assembly of God, officiating. Musical selections will be performed by Joy James and J. C. Coons. Interment will follow at Blue Springs Cemetery under the direction of Hart Funeral Home.

Serving as pallbearers will be Watie Shade, Mitch Anderson, Howard Anderson, Cliff Downs, Ulf Erenius and Max King. Honorary pallbearers will be Harold Rainwater, Jeremy Holden, Brandon Holden and Chris Crane.

Geneva was born one of six children to Elisha and Effie (Cooper) Anderson on Jan. 31, 1924, in Tahlequah, and passed peacefully from this life on Feb. 24, 2004, in Tahlequah.

Geneva grew up and lived her entire life in Tahlequah. Upon graduating from high school, she attended Northeastern University, where she obtained her degree and later her master's degree in education. On June 7, 1943, she married her first husband Ray Holden. Together they raised a son, Ray Holden, in Tahlequah.

Geneva spent 43 years teaching at Westville and Sequoyah Elementary and Sequoyah High Schools. She loved her students and enjoyed opening their eyes to the world of knowledge.

An avid reader, she loved to read and spent quality time at the Tahlequah Public Library. When at home, she could be found accompanying her husband Ray as he tended their cattle and horses, and raising the most beautiful roses. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Tahlequah and taught Sunday school there for many years.

When Ray passed away in 1992, Geneva later married her second husband, George Draper, and lived in Arroyo Grande, Calif., with him from1993-2000, when she returned to Tahlequah to be closer to the family she loved. She cherished most the time she spent with her son, her three grandchildren and two very special great-grandsons. She will be greatly missed by all the lives she touched.

Geneva is preceded in death by her beloved parents; her husband Ray Holden; and second husband George Draper in 2000; and two loving brothers and one sister, Bud Anderson, Harrold Anderson, and Dorothy Anderson-Draper.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her son, Ray A. Holden and his wife Betsy of Tahlequah; three cherished grandchildren, Jeremy Holden and wife Debbie of Lewisville, Texas, Shannon and husband Chris Crane of Tahlequah, and Brandon Holden of Tahlequah; two very special great-grandsons, River Crane of Tahlequah and Hunner Holden Of Oklahoma City; one brother, Andy Anderson; one sister, Elva Anderson-Draper; many nieces, nephews, cousins; as well as a host of friends and loved ones.
