Charles O. Walls

TAHLEQUAH -- Charles Otis Walls passed from this life Monday, Oct. 4, 2004, in Tulsa, at the age of 79. He was born Aug. 4, 1925, in Davie County, N.C., to Dalton and Mary Susanna (Hudson) Walls.

Charles became orphaned at the age of 2, and was raised at the Mills Home in Thomasville, N.C. He attended Mills Home High School for 12 years, until he was drafted into the United States Navy one semester shy of graduation. Charles served his country in underwater demolition during World War II and the Korean Conflict and, later in life, he would earn his high school diploma. He married Billie Ruth (Gilmore) Miller March 27, 1976 in Tulsa.

Charles worked for Local Union 124 in sheet metal fabrication until his retirement and was a lifelong member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars 3707 in Tahlequah.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Woodrow Walls, who perished in the Oklahoma City bombing; and two sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Billie of the home; five daughters, Judy Legee, Genny Brunelli, Jackie Carlson, Tonda Roberts and Debbie Bryan; three sons, John Walls, Jim Walls and Jeff Walls; a brother, Harvey Walls; a sister; six grandchildren, Angel Winsett, Earl Beck, Alisha Banning, Wyatt Beck, Amy Roberts and James Winsett; and two great-grandchildren, Charles Winsett and Justin Winsett.

The family has entrusted the arrangements to Reed-Culver Funeral Home. Services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 8, 2004, at Reed-Culver Chapel.

Alton William Doss

WELLING -- Services for Alton William Doss, 77, will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Oct. 4, 2004, at the Hart Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Charles Duvall officiating. Interment will follow at the Proctor Cemetery under the direction of Hart Funeral Home. A formal visitation with the family will be held Sunday, Oct. 3, from 4-6 p.m.

Serving as pallbearers will be Robert Doss, Ronnie Doss, Lance Doss, Russell Vaughn, Jerry Cole and Joe Eastham. Honorary pallbearers will be Gavin Doss, Darren Doss, Ben Doss, Jody Eastham, and Jason Eastham.

Alton William Doss was one of nine children born to George L. and Millie B. Doss on Sept. 19, 1927, in Cherokee County and passed peacefully from this life on Oct. 1, 2004, in Welling.

Alton married Shirley on April 17, 1987, in Eureka Springs, Ark. Alton was a Teamster truck driver employed by Rocket Freightlines, and a member of the Local 516 Union Hall in Muskogee. He retired after 28 years of services. He started working for the City of Tahlequah and retired in 1990. He enjoyed his time with his family and friends, as well as his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Alton loved to go fishing, and loved to be outdoors attending his landscape gardens. Alton was of the Baptist faith and attended Barber Baptist Church. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Alton is preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Kathy Eastham in 2004; two brothers, Adrian and Dallas; one sister, Susie Owens; and one grandson, Brian Doss.

Alton is survived by his loving wife, Shirley, of 17 years; four children, Robert L. Doss and wife Kimberly of Kellyville, Ronald W. Doss and wife Michaela of Oklahoma City, Margie Cole and husband Jerry of Moody, and Lance Doss of Proctor; one stepson, Russell Vaughn of Tulsa; three brothers and two sisters; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins; as well as a host of friends and loved ones.

Freda Allene Cochran Powell

TAHLEQUAH -- Services for Freda Allene Cochran Powell of Palo Cedro, Calif., were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 2, at Reed-Culver Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Tahlequah City Cemetery under direction of Reed-Culver Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be her nephews, Steve Cochran, James Cochran, Bill Cochran, Don Cochran, Doyle Green Jr. and Dennis Karinen.

Freda Allene Cochran Powell went to be with her Lord on Sunday, Sept. 26, 2004, at Greystone Ranch Guest Home in Palo Cedro, Calif., at the age of 78. She was born July 16, 1929 at Welling, to Jess Byron and Georgia Lou (Latty) Cochran. She graduated from Tahlequah High School in 1944, and moved to California, where she spent most of her life.

She married Thomas Edward Powell Sr., Aug. 31, 1946, in Reno, Nev. Freda was employed at the Rough and Ready Naval Base, Stockton, Calif., until her retirement due to illness. She was a wonderful cook, loved to read, enjoyed crafts and sewing before her illness. She loved and enjoyed her great-granddaughter, Tierra.

Freda was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and one brother, Bill Cochran.

Freda is survived by one daughter, Dianna Cross and husband Chris of Douglas City, Calif.; one son, Thomas Edward (Eddie) Powell Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla.; three grandchildren, Kyley Cross, Forrest Cross and Byron Cross; one great-granddaughter, Tierra Cross; one brother, Dwight Cochran and wife Wanda of Tahlequah; two sisters, Pauline Green and husband Doyle of Tahlequah, and Carolyn Karinen and husband Dennis of Union, Mo.; one sister-in-law, Donna Cochran of Hulbert; two brothers-in-law, Jim and Wayne Powell of Tahlequah; and many nieces and nephews and loving friends. Freda was a brave, loving person and will be missed by all.

Deertrack Jones

TAHLEQUAH -- Services for Deertrack Jones, 62, will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004, at the Reed-Culver Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Fox Blackfox and Rev. Ed Jumper officiating. Burial will follow at Greenleaf Cemetery under the direction of Reed-Culver Funeral Home. A wake will be held in the home of Tina Hooper on Wednesday evening, Feb. 11.

Casket bearers will include Christopher Jones, Jonathan Jones, Ricky Jones, Steve Jones, Ronnie Jones Jr., Chad Jones, Uriah Bluebird, Larry Bluebird, David Bluebird and Jess Jones.

Deertrack Jones was born Feb. 10, 1941, in Tahlequah, to Reeder and Carrie (Candy) Jones. He passed away on Feb. 8, 2004, at his home in Tahlequah, at the age of 62. Deertrack was employed as a general laborer. He loved talking to people and loved children. He enjoyed playing softball, and was a member of the Cloud's Creek Church.

Deertrack was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Eliza Bluebird; a son, Harold Jones; and a grandson, Joseph Hooper.

He is survived by his sons, Gary Jones and wife Rose of Salina, Kevin Jones of Tahlequah, and Jonathan Jones of St. Louis, Mo.; his daughters, Tina Hooper and husband Joe of Tahlequah, and Kourtney Jones of Colcord; a sister, Louella Smith and husband Bennie of Everton, Ark.; five brothers, Leroy Jones of Peggs, Jerry Jones of Tahlequah, Levi Jones of Tahlequah, Ronnie Jones and wife Elizabeth of Tahlequah, and Charles Jones and wife Wanda of Tahlequah; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Jerry Leon Watson Sr.

TAHLEQUAH -- Services for Jerry Leon Watson Sr., 55, will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2004, at Reed-Culver Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Donald Nichols officiating. Burial will follow at Caney Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be Chris Watson, Junior Watson, Kevin Merideth, John Johnson, Brandon King and Eric Lopez.

Jerry Leon Watson Sr. was born July 7, 1948, in Tahlequah, to Marion and Delsie (Reed) Watson. He passed away Friday, Feb. 6, 2004, in Tulsa, at the age of 55. Jerry was a retired car lot owner.

Jerry was preceded in death by two daughters, Marsha Mosely and Ramona Jean Watson; and a sister, Barbara Owens.

Survivors include his wife Sherry (Curtis) Watson of Tulsa; four sons, Lucas Watson, Christopher Watson and wife Misty, Billy Watson, and Junior Watson and wife Pawnee; two stepsons, Steven Doornbos and Brandon King; a stepdaughter, Misty Curtis; five brothers, Leroy Montgomery, J.T. Watson, Datin Watson, John Lee Watson and Richard Watson; a sister, Shirley Martin; grandchildren, Sherry Ann Marie Watson, Tamara Christine Joy Watson, Nickalas, Maria, Zackery, Jerry Watson III, Kirkland, Sammy, Rachel, Shane and Ryan; and step-grandchildren, Kala, Brian Jr. and Lilly.

William Thomas Walls

TAHLEQUAH -- Memorial services for William Thomas Walls, 88, of Tahlequah, will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2004, at the Hart Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Jess French of Eldon Baptist Church officiating. Services are under the direction of Hart Funeral Home.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Click, Duane Click, Ronald Young and Jerry Click.

William Thomas Walls was born to Tom Oliver and Ida (Hayes) Walls on March 9, 1915, in DeSota, Kan., and passed peacefully from this life with his family at his side on Feb. 7, 2004, in Muskogee.

After enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1942, William married the love of his life, Geraldine Hooten, on March 23, 1943, in Shawnee. He serves as a technician fifth grade in the European Theater during World War II, until he received his honorable discharge in 1945.

William loved his farm and livestock, especially his cattle. When he wasn't working on the farm, he enjoyed a good fishing trip and working in his vegetable gardens. But most of all, he enjoyed his time with his family and friends.

He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 135 and VFW No. 3707 of Tahlequah. William was of the Baptist faith and attended Eldon Baptist Church. He will be truly missed by all who knew him.

William is preceded in death by his loving parents; three brothers, Raymond, Bob and Walter; and two sisters, Elva Smock and Emma Smock.

William is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Geraldine of the home; many nieces, nephews and cousins; as well as a host of friends and loved ones.
