Lillian Cathryn Kaufman

TAHLEQUAH-Services for Lillian Cathryn Kaufman, age 87, of Tahlequah, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 8, 2004 at the Hart Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Charles Keim of Southside Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at the Tahlequah City Cemetery under the direction of Hart Funeral Home.

Serving as Kaufman's pallbearers will be Jason Rhodes, David Blankenship, Carl Consalvi, Andrew Blankenship, Michael Blankenship and Todd Brink. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Tahlequah City Fire Department.

Lillian Cathryn Kaufman was born one of six children to Jim and Mattie (Conley) Thomas on July 10, 1916 in Yonkers, Okla. and passed peacefully from this life on March 5, 2004 in Tahlequah.

Lillian attended school and later college at Northeastern State University. While attending college, she met and married the love of her life, Louis Kaufman on October 25, 1936, in Tahlequah. To this loving marriage, three children were born; two sons, Louis Jr. and James; and a daughter, Carolyn. Lillian enjoyed gardening, whether it was flowers or vegetables. She also loved quilting, crocheting and knitting. But most of all, her family came first. Lillian cherished the time with her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the Southside Baptist Church in Tahlequah. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Lillian is preceded in death by both parents, her beloved husband, Louis in 1992, her son Louis S. Kaufman Jr. in 1990, two brothers, Ray Thomas and Jim Thomas, and a sister, Alta Richards.

Lillian leaves to cherish her memory her two children, James "Jim" and wife Kay Kaufman of Tahlequah, and Carolyn Rhodes and husband Jack of Chouteau, Okla.; a daughter-in-law, Gail Kaufman, of Tahlequah; two special sisters, Myrtle Lang and Marjorie Rogers, both of Pryor, Okla.; five adored grandchildren, Lori and husband David Blankenship, of Belton, Mo., Dana and husband Carl Consalvi, of Owasso, Okla., Jason and wife Abi Rhodes, of McAlester, Okla., Bobby and wife Jennifer McNabb, of Chouteau, and Jacqueline Rhodes of Oklahoma City; seven special great-grandchildren, Andrew, Michael, Jacob, Sierra, Ashlan, Austin and Kade; many nieces, nephews, cousins, as well as a host of friends and loved ones.

Edith Mae Wolfe Cantrell

HULBERT - Graveside services for Edith Mae Wolfe Cantrell, 101, original enrollee of the Dawes Commission, of Hulbert, will be 2 p.m. Monday, May 10, 2004, in the Holland Cemetery. Rev. Bill Parker will officiate. Interment has been entrusted to Green Country Funeral Home.

Edith was born July 12, 1904, in Proctor, Okla., Indian Territory the daughter of John and Inez Reese Wolfe. She departed this life on May 7, 2004, at Tahlequah, Okla. She was an original enrollee of the Dawes Commission, and had worked in the health field as a private duty nurse. Edith is preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Flo Lowrey, and a sister, Lydia Weatherford.

Edith is survived by her son Dennis H. "Dick" Garison, three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives, friends, and loved ones.

Mickey Adams

TAHLEQUAH -- Memorial services for Mickey Adams will be held on at 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 24, 2004, at the Tahlequah First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) with Rev. Nancy Pitman officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Hart Funeral Home of Tahlequah.

Honorary pallbearers will be Sam Hart, Andy Cunningham, Jackie Dobbins, Allan Nevel, Larry Cone, Herman Augerhole, Billy Bob Dougherty and Joe Garrett. These were Mickey's "Boys."

Mickey was born one of seven children to Thomas Riley and Eula Dale (Martin) Thomason on July 14, 1927, in Hinton. Mickey attended and graduated from Hinton High School. Mickey married the love of her life, James Avery "Doc" Adams, on Oct. 16, 1949, in Hinton. To this union four children were born. Mickey worked at the Hinton Hospital until the birth of their first child, Sandy. They spent 13 months in Germany with Doc.

Mickey was an avid bowler, loved the Atlanta Braves, and enjoyed going to the horse races, as well as playing the nickel slot machines. An excellent cook, her family will always remember her campfire stew and biscuits. But to Mickey, there was nothing sweeter than attending all the activities her children and grandchildren participated in. Mickey was a member of BPOE Does and American Legion Women's Auxiliary.

Mickey is preceded in death by her daughter and son-in-law, Necie and Jim Young; her first great-grandson, Walker Hix; her parents; three brothers; two sisters; and one nephew.

Mickey was a wife of 54 and one-half years to Doc; mother to Sandy Hix and husband Sherman of Rose, Steve Adams and wife Cheryl of Pryor, and Tom Adams and wife Judy of Tahlequah. She was "Grandma" to Tracie Hix of Tulsa, Mike Hix and wife Mandy of Rose, Randy Hix and wife Leane of Rose, Amanda Romine and husband Steve of Muskogee, Josh Adams of Tahlequah, Shannon Hamby and wife Barbara of Welling, Stephanie Johnson and husband James of Tahlequah, Chrisi Calloway of Tahlequah, Jey Young of Tahlequah, Hunter Young of Rose, and Averi Adams of Pryor. Mickey was the proud great-grandmother of Jake Johnson, Travis Thilges, Alex Hix, Jax Johnson, Chloe Calloway, Dustin Hamby, Layne Eastham, Payton Hix, Steve Romine Jr., and Ethan Calloway. Mickey was also special mom and friend to Bonnie Wells of Rose.

Mickey is also survived by a sister, Wilma Cales and husband Merle of Bolivar, Mo.; two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Felix and husband Robert of Oklahoma City, and Louise Thomason of Farmington, N.M.; and several nieces and nephews; as well as many other friends and loved ones.

Mary N. Colbert

TAHLEQUAH - Graveside services for Mary N. Colbert, 71, Tahlequah, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 7, 2004 at Pettit Cemetery, Keys. Branson Perry will officiate. Services are entrusted to Stephens Memorial Chapel.

Mrs. Colbert was born Sept. 17, 1932, in Tahlequah. She passed away on June 3, 2004 at her home in Barber, Okla.

Mary had lived in Tahlequah since 1965. She was a homemaker and was married to Robert Lee Colbert, who preceded her in death in 1987. Mary enjoyed gardening and fishing and also liked going to local casinos.

She is survived by two sons, Bobby Colbert, of Wagoner, Okla., Christopher Colbert, of Dallas; one daughter, Debbie Burchette, of Springdale, Ark.; four grandchildren, Adam, Brent, Sarah, Lauren; three brothers, Henry Ballard, Clyde Ballard, both of Tahlequah, Ed Ballard, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and one sister, Nina Wing, of Tahlequah. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Steve and Elsie Ballard; one sister, Rosie, and one brother, Raymond.

Thomas Eugene "Gene" Sweet

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Services for Thomas Eugene "Gene" Sweet were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 5, 2004, at Bill Eisenhour N.E. Chapel in Oklahoma City, with interment at Arlington Memory Gardens.

Thomas Eugene "Gene" Sweet passed away June 2, 2004, in Midwest City. He was born June 3, 1915, to James and Rebecca (Sanders) Sweet in Gainesville, Mo. He was discharged from the U.S. Naval Service on Feb. 26, 1946, where he served as a Sea Bee. He retired from Sneeds Nursery after 34 years of service in the commercial nursery industry.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, George; and sisters, Elsie Christie and Elizabeth Taylor.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Joan of the home; the mother of his children, Josephine Sweet; his daughters, Patricia Philliber and Rita Aguilera of Moore, and Rebecca Viney of Pittsburgh, Kan.; his son, James Thomas of Spencer; his brothers, Edgar, Oliver and Alva; his sister, Beatrice Agee; numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews, great-grandchildren and one great, great-grandchild.

If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Rebecca Sanders Sweet Scholarship Fund. Checks may be made payable to PSU Foundation, 401 E. Ford, Pittsburgh, Kan., 66762.

John D. Whitt

FORT SMITH, Ark. -- John D. Whitt, 87, of Fort Smith, Ark., passed away Thursday, June 3, 2004, in a Tulsa Hospital. Memorial services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Monday, June 7, 2004, at Central Presbyterian Church in Fort Smith. The family will have a private interment in the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith, under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Monday after the memorial service at Central Presbyterian Church.

Honorary pallbearers will be Lynn Roberts, Rod Naucke, Robert Tedder, Storm Nolan, Kane Whitt, Matthew Whitt and Connnor Whitt.

John Whitt was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, where he served as chairman of the child development center, was an ordained elder and deacon, clerk of the session, treasurer and trustee. He was a leader and volunteer of the Boy Scouts of America, member of the Fort Smith Rotary, avid fisherman, a dedicated golfer, model railroad builder and artist.

Whitt was originally from McAlester, where he attended Oklahoma Military Academy. He attended Tulane University in New Orleans. After serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater in World War II, and earning an honorable discharge as master sergeant/sergeant major in 1945, he began working as accountant for Public Service Company in Tulsa, where he met his wife, Mary Dyer. He served as news editor for KSWM radio in Joplin, Mo., and moved to Fort Smith where he joined Donrey Media Group and rose to the position of general manager for KFSM television. He assisted Hernreich Broadcasting in putting KHBS-TV on the air, and served as manager of the station before resigning in 1974 to join his sons in Morgan Building Supply.

Whitt was preceded in death by his parents, Judge Oliver and Irma Whitt.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Nell Dyer Whitt of the home; sons, Michael Whitt and wife Charlotte of Little Rock, Ark., Chris Whitt of Fort Smith, Ark., and David Whitt and wife Jan of Fort Smith, Ark.; three grandchildren, Storm Nolan, Kane Whitt and Matthew Whitt, all of Fort Smith, Ark.; and one great-grandchild, Connor Whitt of Little Rock, Ark.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Central Presbyterian Church, 2901 Rogers, Fort Smith, Ark., 72901.
