LEWIS CARL MORGAN

GUYMON, Okla. -- Lewis Carl Morgan, 80, longtime Guymon resident, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, at the Veterans Administration Nursing Home in Amarillo, Texas.

He was born Oct. 25, 1919, to Newton Henry and Stella (Harrod) Morgan 10 miles north of Hooker, Okla.

He attended school at Dade Country School, Round Top, and graduated from Elkhart High School in June 1941. While in high school, he played football and was the drum major of the band.

In August 1941, he joined the Army Air Corps. He was a B-17 radioman and tail gunner. His plane was shot down over Germany. he was a prisoner of war for one year , was liberated in May 1945, at which time he returned to Elkhart. He was awarded the Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars.

He married Phyllis Carter Sept. 2, 1945, in Ulysses. She survives.

He was a meat cutter for Ideal Food Stores and the Big B in Guymon. He also held the position of state meat inspector and worked in the meat lab of Panhandle State University.

He was a 50-year member of Masonic Lodge, a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, the "Mighty Eight" 8th Air Force and the P.O.W. organization.

He was an avid golfer and had accomplished two holes-in-one.

He was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Guymon.

Survivors also include one daughter, Carla Morgan, Liberal; one son, Max Morgan and wife, Sharon, Johnstown, Colo.; one son-in-law, Randy Parker, Elkhart; grandchildren, Bryan Morgan and wife, Kari, Noble, Okla.; Chad Parker and wife, Jenny, Elkhart, Bryce Morgan and wife, Tammy, Denver, Chase Parker and wife, Julie, Elkhart, Darci and Danielle Morgan, Johnstown, Colo., and Deborah Morgan, Guymon; and eight great-grandchildren, Kyle, Alex, Austin, Deke, Rylee, Rhett, Leroy and Brittany.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Cathy Jo (Morgan) Parker; three brothers; two sisters; and mother-in-law, Violet (Carter) White.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Guymon, with the Rev. Don Chase officiating.

Private interment will be Monday afternoon in Elkhart Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Ronald McDonald House, in care of Henson-Novak Funeral Directors, P.O. Box 1306, Guymon, Okla. 73942.

MAUDE M. MCCLAIN

BEAVER, Okla. -- Maude Marie McClain, 94, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, in Stigler, Okla.

She was born Sept. 20, 1907 to William Edward and Janie (Jones) Bass in Thomas, Okla.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Main Street Baptist Church in Stigler.

Survivors include one son, Leon Jacobs and wife, Elda, Whitefield, Okla.; two granddaughters, Sharon Raven and husband, Glenn, Beaver, and Stacey King and husband, Don, Pocola, Okla.; three grandsons, Terry Jacobs and wife, Carole, Midland, Texas, Randy Jacobs and wife, LaRonda, Hackett, Ark., and Tim Jacobs and wife, Janie, Hooker, Okla.; 14 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Beaver.

Burial will follow at the Mt. View Cemetery in Elmwood, Okla.

Services are under the direction of Clark Funeral Service in Beaver.

I. GERALDINE BRUCE

NORMAN, Okla. -- Iris Geraldine Bruce, 93, former Liberal resident, died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, at Norman Regional Hospital in Norman.

She was born July 11, 1906, to Johnnie J. and Fannie (Hensley) Bowers in the Dombey community, seven miles east of Adams, Okla.

She married Euty Farice Bruce Sr. Oct. 20, 1926, in Liberal. He died in 1972.

She and her family lived near Tyrone, Okla., until 1964, when they moved to Liberal. She had lived in Oklahoma with a daughter, Gwendolyn Webb, since 1988.

She was a homemaker and a devoted mother and grandmother. She was a member of the Church of Christ for 73 years.

Her hobbies included crocheting, gardening, flowers, cooking, traveling and spending time with her family.

Survivors include four sons, James Bruce and wife, Lois, Dumas, Texas, Farice Bruce Jr. and wife, Genie, Liberal, Glendel Bruce and wife, Monna Rae, Abilene, Texas, and Jon Bruce and wife, Sharon, Cache, Okla.; two daughters, Gwendolyn Webb and husband, Kermit, Norman, Okla., and Sharon Dent and husband, Richard, Liberal.

Other survivors include 19 grandchildren, Kae Kerr, Fort Collins, Colo., Connie Dale, Boston, Mass., Randa Bruce-Gonzalez, San Antonio, Texas, Philip Bruce and Leslie Bruce, Abilene, Texas, Royce Bruce, San Francisco, Calif., Doug Bruce, Houma, La., Bryan Bruce, Amarillo, Texas, Doyle Bruce, Fort Worth, Texas, Myron Bruce, Evans, Colo., Karen Lindsey, Madison, Ala., Heather Gould, Mesquite, Texas, Jonathan Webb, Norman, Okla., Ben Bruce, Henderson, Tenn., Bob Bruce and Brad Bruce, Cache, Okla., and Pam Bruce, Holly McCarter and Ryan Dent, Liberal; 24 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, three sisters-in-law, Imogene Bowers, Oklahoma City, Okla., Thelma Bowers, Hooker, Okla., and Mozelle Bruce, Liberal.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Myrl Bowers and Mark Bowers, and two sisters, Nancy Bowers and Bonnie Bowers.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Western Avenue Church of Christ in Liberal, with Minister Doyle Bruce, a grandson, presiding.

Burial will be at Restlawn Cemetery.

Friends may call from until 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesday at Kitch Funeral Home in Liberal. The family will be present to receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

The family suggests memorials to The Old Landmarks Hour or Southwest Kansas Christian Academy, in care of P.O. Box 1255, Liberal, KS 67905.

MURIEL HANSON

GUYMON, Okla. -- Muriel Hanson, 87, died Saturday, Feb. 20, 2000, at Memorial Hospital of Texas County in Guymon, Okla.

She was born Aug. 19, 1912, to John T. and Agnes Pearl (Brown) Rigg in Syracuse.

She married Harry Bush. He preceded her in death May 1962.

She moved from Salem, Ark., to Guymon in the early 1990s.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Salem Presbyterian Church and member of No Mans Land Senior Citizens.

Survivors include six children, Marion Carter, Guymon, John Bush, Sacramento, Calif., Jean Pippert, Scranton, Murray Bush, Wichita, Gale Pelser, Satanta, and Beulah Tucker, Perrin, Texas; 22 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two brothers.

Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Satanta Cemetery, Satanta, with the Rev. Jim Maynard of Calvary Baptist Church, Guymon, officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home, Guymon.

MYRTLE L. SCHNEIDER

CHICKASHA, Okla. -- Myrtle L. Schneider, 93, died Friday, March 3, 2000, at the Grady County Hospital in Chickasha.

She was born Aug. 13, 1906, to James and Dollie (Broyles) Willis in Union, W.Va.

She married Ted Lofland June 16, 1926, in Liberal. He died in 1975. She married Earl Schneider Aug. 4, 1941, in Liberal. He died in 1987.

She was a resident of Liberal for 70 years before moving to Chickasha. She was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and the Sunshine Circle, both of Liberal.

Survivors include four sons, Ted Lofland Jr., Chickasha, James F. Lofland, Tulsa, Okla., Norman L. Lofland, Macu, China, and Vernon Eugene Lofland, Las Vegas; two step-sons, Joe Schneider, Waddell, Ariz., and Glen Schneider, Rigby, Idaho; one step-daughter, Genevieve Morrison, Ephrata, Wash.; one sister, Alice E. Lofland, Las Cruces, N.M.; 19 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. today at the Kitch Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Pat DeZort presiding. Burial will follow at the Liberal Cemetery in Liberal.

Friends may from 1 p.m. until service time today.

EVELYN CAROL COWAN

BALKO, Okla. -- Evelyn Carol Cowan, 59, died Tuesday, March 7, 2000, at the Ochiltree County Hospital Hospice.

She was born Dec. 12, 1940, to Dale Claude and Bertha Aline (Baxter) Peters in Liberal.

She married E. Dewayne Cowan, Aug. 1, 1967, in Perryton, Texas. He survives.

She graduated from high school, attended a two-year certification college and became a registered nurse. She worked as a registered nurse until her children were born and then she became a full-time homemaker.

She was a member of Gray Community Church for over thirty years, a member of the Boyd Home Demonstration Club, a past club leader of the Balko 4H, and was a Balko FFA Mom from 1986 to 1994.

Other survivors include two sons, Byron Cowan, Cleveland, Texas, and Daron Cowan, Ulysses; one grandson, Tanner, and several other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, at the Balko Baptist Church, with Evelyn Stone and Joe Day presiding.

Burial will be at Bethany Cemetery under the direction of Clark Funeral Service, Beaver, Okla.

GENE DAVIS

BEAVER, Okla. -- Gene Davis, 73, died Friday, March 10, 2000, in Abeline, Texas.

He was born June 20, 1926, to Walter Merritt and Effie May (Johnson) Davis near Elmwood, Okla.

He married Norma Fuller, Aug. 1, 1948, in Beaver, Okla. She survives.

He graduated from Beaver high school in 1943. He attended Oklahoma A&M, Stillwater, Okla. and then entered the service serving in the Southwest Pacific with the 164th infantry. He received the Presidential Unit Citation -- the Combat Infantry Badge, that he was most proud of. He was discharged Nov. 17, 1946 at Fort Sam, Houston, Texas.

He began his banking career in 1948 with the First National Bank in Beaver and, eight years later, moved to Abeline, Texas to work in the First State Bank. He was a 1965 graduate of the Southwestern School of Banking at SMU in Dallas.

He was a member of the Pioneer Drive Baptist Church since 1956. He was also a member of the West Abilene Kiwanis, the Athletic Committee of the Abilene Chamber of Commerce, a past board member of the West Texas Fair, the Abilene Rotary Club, a past president of the Taylor County Tuberculosis Association, a past treasurer of the United Way, a past president of the Abilene Chapter of American Institute of Banking and treasurer of the Abilene Area Square and Round Dance Association. He became the president of the Olton State Bank in 1990. He retired in July of 1993.

Other survivors include four daughters, Sherry Breidenbach, Abilene, Maxine Davis, Grapevine, Texas, Trudy Davis, Garland, Texas, and Marcy Gardner, Weatherford, Texas; a good friend he loved as his daughter, Janie Carradine, Grapevine; four sisters, Irene Crabb, Newton, Vera Morrison, Wichita, Vida Scraper, Hiawatha, and his twin, Geneva Morrison, Wichita; five grandchildren; and several other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Beaver United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Breon presiding.

Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Clark Funeral Home in Beaver.

The family suggests memorials to Hendrick Hospice Care, P.O. Box 1922, Abeline, Texas 79604; American Lung Association of Texas, P.O. Box 26460, Austin, Texas 78755-0460, or the donor's favorite charity.
