MARY YOUNG

HOOKER, Okla. -- Mary Young, 96, Abilene, Texas, formerly of Hooker, Okla., died Sunday, March 26, 2000, at Spring Season Nursing Home in Abilene.

She was born June 3, 1903, to William Edward and Jessie Mae (Durham) Acker in Checotah, Okla.

She moved with her family, by covered wagon, to New Mexico. When she was 8, they moved, again by covered wagon, to Hooker.

She married James Hirom Young Aug. 26, 1922, in Liberal. He died Sept. 21, 1959.

She worked for many families in the Hooker area.

She lived in Hooker until 1996, when she moved to Abilene to be near her daughter, Jewell.

She was a member of the Hooker Church of Christ and was baptized Oct. 4, 1959, by Clifton Stark. She was a hard worker and a faithful Christian.

Her hobbies included quilting and crocheting.

Survivors include her son, Ray Young and wife, Lee, Edmond, Okla.; two daughters, Jewell Halford and husband, Jim, Abilene, Texas, and Roberta Page and husband, Billy, Burleson, Texas; one half-brother, Lloyd Acker, Liberal; one half-sister, Rosie Raff, Hooker; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Eugene; a daughter, Wilma Bates; and a grandson, Samuel Page.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m today at Hooker Church of Christ, with Neville Buchanan, John Maynard and Evan Eggleston officiating.

Burial was at Hooker Cemetery under the direction of Roberts Brothers Funeral Home of Hooker.

EDNA L. ELLISON

DALLAS -- Edna L. Ellison, 89, Dallas, Texas, died Monday, March 27, 2000, at the Doctor's Hospital in Dallas.

She was born March 17, 1911, to Fred and Margaret E. (Bower) Windsor in Lorena, Okla.

She married Clifford S. Long in 1931 in Turpin, Okla. He died in 1938.

She married Jess Ellison in 1946 in Meade. He died in 1955.

She graduated from Turpin High School and attended Panhandle State University for several years.

She had lived in Beaver, Okla., where she was Beaver County Court Clerk. She moved to Dallas in 1956.

She was a member of the Church of God in Dallas.

Survivors include one son, Dale Long and wife, Nancy, Oklahoma City; one daughter, Loree Champiomont, Dallas; one brother, Chester Windsor, Liberal; two sisters, Minnie Hiatt, Wichita, and Ethel Pittman and husband, Erlis, Spearman, Texas; two grandchildren, Michael and Randal Long; and two great-grandchildren, Michel Harvey and Kelsey Long.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m Friday at Bethel Church of God, Turpin, with the Rev. Stanley Lehnert presiding.

Burial will be at Floris Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday and 8-11 a.m. Friday at Miller Mortuary, Liberal.

J.A. GILES JR.

TYRONE, Okla. -- J. A. Giles Jr., 64, Tyrone, formerly of Satanta, died Tuesday, March 28, 2000, at Beaver County Nursing Home in Beaver, Okla.

He was born April 30, 1935, to Julius A. and Velma Antnett (Greg) Giles in Breckenridge, Texas.

His family moved to Satanta when he was 8.

He served his country in the U.S. Army. He was manager of a service station.

Survivors include one son, Steven Giles, Fair Grove, Mo.; two daughters, Brenda Warren, Tyrone, and Karen Tharp and husband, Bill, Springfield, Mo.; two brothers, Orval "Bud" Giles, Fort Worth, Texas, and Clyde Giles, Satanta; four sisters, Margerie Hagerman, Ulysses, Mary V. Day, Liberal, Roberta Lewis, Montezuma, and Anita Brown, Sublette; five grandchildren, Amy, Angela and Alisha Warren and E.J. and Jamie Tharp.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Aubra Giles; and one sister, Jettie Lea Giles.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Dudley Township Cemetery, Satanta.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at Haskell County Funeral Home, Sublette.

Memorials are suggested to the family, in care of Haskell County Funeral Home, Box 607, Sublette, KS 67877.

SARA PENNER

TURPIN, Okla. -- Sara Penner, 87, Turpin, Okla., died Saturday, April 1, 2000, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

She was born Oct. 3, 1912, at Turpin, Okla., to Henry and Justina (Goertzen) Plett.

She attended Greenough School and the Meade Bible Academy. She went to the Capitol Beauty School in Omaha, Neb., and the Washington School of Art, Washington, D.C.

She married Herbert Penner June 6, 1942, in Turpin.

She was a lifelong Turpin community resident. She farmed with her husband until his death March 18, 1993.

She was an accomplished artist, painting in oils. She was a dedicated wife and mother.

She was baptized June 7, 1931, on her confession of faith in Jesus Christ, and for many years she served in various capacities in the church.

Survivors include one son, Philip Penner, Liberal; one daughter, Sharon Orenne Friesen and husband, Alan, Calgary, Alberta, Canada; two grandsons, Scott and Shawn Friesen, Calgary; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Miller Chapel in Liberal, with Harry Jost, Ervin Buller and Lesley Hunt presiding.

Burial will be at the Liberal Cemetery.

Friends may call from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 8 a.m. until service time Wednesday at Miller Mortuary.

PEARL LAHOMA MUSSMAN

GUYMON, Okla. -- Pearl Lahoma Mussman, 88, lifelong Guymon resident, died Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at Baptist St. Anthony's Hospice in Amarillo, Texas.

She was born April 11, 1911, to William Thomas and Mamie Elizabeth (Stallings) Cooper in Midwell, Okla.

She married Fred Albert Mussman Dec. 25, 1930, in Guymon. He died March 4, 1963.

She was a homemaker and a mother. She was an active member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness and served in the church ministry until her late 70s. She had been a resident of Dunaway Manor for the past four years.

Survivors include 10 sons, Henry Mussman and wife, Sharon, Hooker, Okla., David Mussman, Fort Worth, Texas, Loren Mussman and wife, Edna, Amarillo, Texas, Larry Mussman and wife, Darlene, San Jose, Calif., Richard Mussman and wife, Carol, San Jose, Lee Mussman and wife, Kathy, San Jose, Dareld Mussman and wife, Beverly, Joplin, Mo., Jerald Mussman and wife, Michele, Amarillo, Texas, Dwight Mussman and wife, Jo Ann, Atlanta, Texas, and Stan Mussman and wife, Andrea, San Jose; five daughters, Mary Ann Mussman, Guymon, Ida Mae Hitchcock and husband, Cecil, Hooker, Dorothy Johnson and husband, Morris, Andover, Emmy Garcia and husband, Frank, Arvada, Colo., and Cathy Shannon and husband, Jim, Scottsdale, Ariz.; one niece, Margaret Barber, Guymon; 35 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a newborn daughter, Ethel; five sisters, Minnie, Mamie, Ida, Annie and Gladys; and three brothers, James, Roy and Ralph.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Guymon Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness, with Jim Dooley and Chad Brazell presiding.

Burial will be at Elmhurst Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Baptist St. Anthony's Hospice, in care of Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1112, Guymon, OK 73942.

IRMA R. LOWRY

HOOKER, Okla. -- Irma R. Lowry, 87, Hooker, Okla., died Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at her home.

She was born Sept. 28, 1912, to Albert Freiderick and Ida Sue (Scott) Fox in Marion. She moved with her parents and two brothers to the Hooker area, where she attended the Buffalo School.

During high school, she boarded at Dick Mason's Rooming House. She graduated with the Hooker High School class of 1930.

She married Ray Quay Lowry Aug. 11, 1933. They made their home and farmed in the Hooker area. He died April 11, 1998.

She enjoyed working with the public as she worked for Mike Grey and Al Chill.

She was on the Optima Election Board and served longer than any other member at that time.

She enjoyed cooking and baking, and she worked on the United Methodist Church food committee. She was active in the PTA and her children's school activities.

Along with the Range community, she helped provide 100 quilts yearly for Cal Farley Boys' Ranch.

She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge.

Survivors include her son, George Lowry and wife, Kay, Hooker, Okla.; one daughter, Irma Jean Eufinger and husband, Bob, Oklahoma City, Okla.; one sister, Ulah Mae Blackwelder, Hooker; one granddaughter, Marquita Carroll and husband, Art, Taos, N.M.; and two great-grandchildren, Michael James and Adalynn Katrina Carroll.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two brothers, John and Fred Fox.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church, Hooker, with the Rev. Donald Calvert of the Hardesty United Methodist Church officiating.

Burial will be at the Hooker Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Cal Farley Boys' Ranch or the Hooker Cemetery Fund, and may be left in care of Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Box 745, Hooker, OK 73945.

RAYMOND W. BECKER

TURPIN, Okla. -- Raymond W. Becker, 77, Turpin, died Thursday, April 27, 2000, at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Okla.

He was born Oct. 12, 1922, to Cornelus and Agnes (Wiens) Becker in Beaver County, Okla.

Following the death of his father, he and his brother started farming at a young age. He remained a farmer for the rest of his life.

He was a member of the Turpin Mennonite Church and served as treasurer for several years.

He married Edna E. Buller Nov. 24, 1961, in Turpin. She survives.

Other survivors include two sons, John Koehn and wife, Susie, Topeka; and Jerry Becker and wife, Mary, Owasso, Okla.; one daughter, Pat Ratzlaff and husband, Ken, Bangor, Mich.; one

brother, Aldo Becker, Newton; 10 grandchildren, Rathen, Mischa, Joanna and Jennie Becker, Mitzie Manes, Keith Koehn, Kelly Nixon, Randy Williamson, and Nathan and Kent Ratzlaff; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Turpin Mennonite Church, with the Rev. Stanley Lehnert presiding.

Burial will be at the Turpin Mennonite Cemetery.

Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. Sunday at Miller Mortuary and from 9 a.m. to service time Monday at the church.

The family suggests memorials to Turpin Mennonite Church, in care of Miller Mortuary, 908 N. Lincoln, Liberal, KS 67905.
