JOYE T. "JACK" HENDRIX

HARDESTY, Okla. ­ Joye T. "Jack" Hendrix, 74, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

He was born April 13, 1926, to Frank Alfred and Willie Mary (Clemmer) Hendrix in Willow, Okla.

He married Rosa Lee Reed Feb. 9, 1947, in Waka, Texas. She survives.

He graduated from Spearman High School in Spearman, Texas, in 1944.

He had been a resident of Hardesty since 1959, after moving from Sunray, Texas.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II, and was manager of Perryton Equity Grain Elevator in Hardesty from 1959 until his retirement in 1986. He had also managed grain elevators in Waka, Perryton, Morris, Texas and Sunray.

He was a member of the Hardesty United Methodist Church in Hardesty.

Other survivors include three daughters, Cynthia DeArmond and husband, Billy, Spearman, Shanna Medeiros and husband, Danny, Liberal, and Rene Avent and husband, Boots, Stinnett, Texas; three brothers, Alfred Hendrix, Graham, Texas, Dan Dacus, Lee's Summit, Mo., and Ted Dacus, San Antonio; two sisters, Betty Welch, Wichita Falls, Texas, and Lee Marie Watson, Fairfield, Va.; six grandchildren, Clint DeArmond, Shanna Lee Kinney, Michelle Keith, Wil Avent, Wes Avent and Jody Avent; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Leo Dacus; and one sister, Eleanor Beth Novasad.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Hardesty United Methodist Church in Hardesty with the Rev. Don Calvert presiding.

A military burial will be at the Hartville Cemetery in Hardesty.

Memorials are suggested to the Hartville Cemetery Fund or the Hardesty United Methodist Church in care of Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1112, Guymon, OK 73942.

JERRY L. KARBER

BALKO, Okla. ­ Jerry Lynn Karber, 54, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, at the Ochiltree General Hospital in Perryton, Texas.

He was born Jan. 22, 1946, to Leonard Clarence and Mabel LaFaun (Gift) Karber.

He married Johnnie Fay Benton June 7, 1969, in Balko. She survives.

He graduated from high school and attended college for four years.

He had been a resident of Perryton since 1981.

Other survivors include his mother; one son, Jason K. Karber, Norfolk, Va.; two daughters, Jennifer L. Karber, Arlington, Texas, and Julee D. Karber, Perryton; three brothers, Sam Karber and Bob Karber, both of Balko, and Garry Karber, Perryton; one sister, Lula Benton, Enid, Okla.; six grandchildren; and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Balko Baptist Church in Balko with the Revs. Geary Martin and Joe Day presiding.

Burial will be at the Bethany Cemetery in rural Balko.

Clark Funeral Service in Beaver, Okla., is in charge of arrangements.

RONALD D. WAGNER

TEXHOMA, Okla. -- Ronald David Wagner, 65, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, at his home in Texhoma.

He was born Feb. 6, 1935, to George and Genevieve Wagner in Guymon, Okla.

He married Marie Welch May 30, 1954, in Clayton, N.M. She survives.

He grew up on his parents farm near Hardesty, Okla., and graduated from Hardesty High School.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from May of 1955 to Feb. of 1959. He then moved to the Wagner family farm.

He had been a resident of Texhoma since 1975.

He owned and operated Texhoma Auto Parts in Texhoma for several years, which they recently sold.

He and and his wife were chosen Parade Marshall and queen during Fiesta Day 2000 in Texhoma. He was the chairman of Texas County Farm Bureau for many years. He also worked with Boy Scouts.

He was a member of the Texhoma Fire Department for 20 years, having served as assistant chief, secretary and fire chief for 11 years. He was a state instructor for the fire department for 4 years.

He began and supported many projects in Texhoma, including the Fourth of July celebrations, the raising and lowering of the U.S. flag at the four corners of Highway 54 and Second Street, the Christmas decorations for the town, and baskets and toys for those less fortunate.

In 1992, he and his wife were given the Community Service Award by the Chamber of Commerce in Texhoma.

Survivors include two sons, Tony Wagner and wife, Lynn, Turpin, Okla., and Tim Wagner, Kansas City; three daughters, Tara Batman and husband, Dennis, Salina, Tammy Stodghill and husband, Bill, Guymon, Okla., and Theresa Gunn and husband, John, Peoria, Ariz.; and one sister, Margaret Wagner, Guymon.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Vigil services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Peters Catholic Church in Guymon with Dr. B.J. Dollins presiding.

Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the St. Peters Catholic Church with the Rev. Scott Adams presiding.

Burial will be at the Texhoma Cemetery in Texhoma, Texas.

Memorials are suggested to the Texhoma Fire Department, in care of Dawson Welch Funeral Home, P.O. Box 445, Texhoma, OK 73949.

ROMA L. PRATER

TYRONE, Okla. -- Roma L. Prater, 72, of Tyrone, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

She was born Nov. 6, 1928, to Bill and Nellie (Taylor) Peek in Hugoton.

She married Gene Prater March 5, 1949, in Perryton, Texas. He survives.

She had attended school in Hugoton and had lived in Liberal for a short time before moving to Tyrone, where she had been a resident for more than 40 years.

She was employed by Potter's Cafe and owned and operated City Cafe in Tyrone. She also worked for Beech Aircraft for 19 years and in the stockroom at Wal-Mart for 10 years.

Other survivors include two sons, the Rev. Bill Prater and wife, Katie, Liberal, and Rick Prater and wife, Candi, Liberal; two daughters, Jo Munson and husband, Harold, Edmond, Okla., and Dorothy Staley, Wichita; one brother, Claude Peek and wife, Ruth, Liberal; three sisters, Cleona Baldwin, Tyler, Texas, Fern Graber, Liberal, and Fay Mapili, LaHabra, Calif.; and 13 grandchildren, T.J. Prater, Tyler Prater, Tiffany Prater, Mindy Prater, Sid Prater, Lindsey Prater, Dalton Harrison, Mike Munson and wife, Christie, Donnie Munson, Jason Munson, Ryan Staley, Donald Staley and Gabriel Staley.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Merle Peek and Floyd Peek; one sister, Verna Tapp; and one daughter-in-law, Ginger Prater.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Fellowship Baptist Church in Liberal with the Rev. Bill Prater presiding.

Burial will be at the Liberal Cemetery in Liberal.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and 8-10 a.m. Wednesday at Miller Mortuary in Liberal.

Memorials are suggested to the Fellowship Baptist School, in care of Miller Mortuary, 908 N. Lincoln, Liberal, KS 67905.

GEORGE B. RAY

GUYMON, Okla. -- George Bernard Ray, 73, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, at his home in Spearman, Texas.

He was born Dec. 30, 1926, to Franklin and Mary Ray in Dombey, Okla.

He married Ida M. Collinsworth Oct. 3, 1948, in Hardesty, Okla. She survives.

He was a World War II veteran, having served in the United States Air Force.

He was employed by Panhandle Eastern Pipeline and Anadarko.

He had lived in Liberal, Aztec, N.M., Adams, Okla., and Hardesty before moving to Spearman in 1997.

He was a member of the Adams Mennonite Brethren Church in Adams.

Other survivors include three sons, Michael Ray and wife, Terry, Liberal, Monty Ray and wife, Mary, Aztec, and Steve Ray and wife, Debbie, Lewisville, Texas; one daughter, Cindy Ray Trent and husband, Danny, Hardesty; eight grandchildren, Kerry Ray, Randi Cannon, Travis Ray, Macey Ray, David Trent, Carmen Stark, Kandyce Ray and Kyndra Ray; and five great-grandchildren, Austin Ray Stark, Dylan Trent, Savanna Trent, Garrett Bradley Ray and Mia Stark.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Yvonne Ray; and two brothers, Earl D. Ray and Charles D. Ray.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Adams Mennonite Brethren Church in Adams with the Revs. John Flaming and Frank Hubert presiding.

Burial will follow at Hartville Cemetery in Hardesty.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or Hartville Cemetery in care of Henson-Novak Funeral Home, Box 1306, Guymon, OK 73942.

MARY E. SPEYERS

BEAVER, Okla. -- Mary Ethel Speyers, 93, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at Beaver County Nursing Home in Beaver.

She was born Jan. 5, 1907, to Sid and Lockie (Eldridge) Meyers in Oklahoma.

She married Buck Speyers in June of 1937. He died in 1968.

She had been a resident of Beaver for several years.

She was a member of the Methodist Church in Beaver and the Order of Eastern Star.

She was the Beaver County tag agent for several years.

Survivors include one niece, Hazel Watson, Darrouzett, Texas; and one nephew, Mike Speyers, Perryton, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Forgan Cemetery in Forgan.

Clark Funeral Service in Beaver is in charge of arrangements.

IMOGENE METCALF

HOOKER, Okla. -- Imogene Metcalf, 84, died Monday, Oct. 30, 2000, at her home in Hooker.

Funeral services are pending and will be announced by Roberts Brothers Funeral Home in Hooker.
