IRA J. WHITE

HOOKER, Okla. -- Ira J. White, 86, died Monday, Oct. 30, 2000, at his home in Hooker.

He was born May 13, 1914, to Wiley and Myrtle (Gore) White on the family homestead southwest of Hooker.

He married Arline Hatfield in 1939. She preceded him in death.

He attended school in Buffalo, Okla., PAI, Okla., and Hooker, where he graduated in 1932.

After graduation, he worked with his brother, Herb White at White's Auto Service.

In 1942, he was the first married man drafted into the United States Navy from Texas County. He was stationed in San Diego. While there, he and other Hooker residents who had been stationed in San Diego held get-togethers and picnics while the men trained for war or worked in the aircraft industry.

While in the U.S. Navy, he went overseas to Saipan. He was discharged in 1945 and returned to Hooker.

He again worked with his brother at White's Auto Service. He also farmed for many years and worked for Mapco, from which he retired in 1979. Only recently did he retire from farming.

His hobbies included taking his children camping and fishing at Red River, N.M.

He was a member of the Methodist Church in Hooker. He was a regular helper and attendee of the annual Ground Hog supper at the church.

He also played Bingo and served as caller at the American Legion in Hooker. He helped with military burials, presented flags to surviving family members and marched and carried a rifle for Memorial Day services at the Hooker Cemetery in Hooker.

Survivors include two sons, Donald White and wife, Teruko, and Dale White and wife, Julia, all of Hooker; daughter-in-law ArVel White, Hooker; four grandsons, Ed White and wife, Gina, Yukon, Okla., Sean White and wife, Jennifer, Lake Charles, La., Terance White, Liberal, and Sammy White and wife, Jennifer, Yokosuka, Japan; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Herbert White; a sister, Nilla; an infant son, Robert; and twin sons, Leslie and Lisle.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Hooker with the Rev. Kim Domnick and Brother Ron Mimms presiding.

Burial will be at the Hooker Cemetery in Hooker.

Memorials are suggested to the Royal Ranch in Knowles, Okla., in care of Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, P.O. Box 745, Hooker, OK 73945.

INEZ M. CLUBB

BALKO, Okla. -- Inez M. Clubb, 89, of Balko, died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, at the Woodward Memorial Hospital in Woodward.

She was born Nov. 11, 1911, to Walter Abe and Roxie (Powers) Clubb in Beaver County, Okla.

She married Winifred Malcomb Clubb Feb. 7, 1934, in Beaver, Okla. He died July 5, 1982.

She had been a lifelong resident of Beaver County.

She was a housewife and belonged to various demonstration clubs.

Survivors include one son, Neal Clubb, Balko; one daughter, Betty Roberts, Woodward; one sister, Lela McKeever, Elmwood, Okla.; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Balko Apostolic Faith Church with the Revs. Jim Fox and Edwin Waterbury presiding.

Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Balko under the direction of Clark Funeral Service in Beaver.

GOLDIE A. GANTT

HOOKER, Okla. -- Goldie A. Gantt, 92, died Saturday, August 5, 2000, at the Dunaway Manor in Guymon, Okla.

She was born April 4, 1908, to Edward Murphy and Katie Elizabeth (Stouder) Herald in Lincoln County, Okla.

She married Archie O. Judd Feb. 5, 1926, in Guymon. He died March 28, 1937. She then married Henry Creel Gantt July 5, 1938, in Liberal. He died Dec. 14, 1954.

She was a resident of Dunaway Manor in Guymon for the past six years, and was a longtime Hooker resident.

She worked for Sears Variety Store in Hooker for a brief period. She was the bookkeeper for Bollinger Chevrolet in Hooker for two years and in 1957 she went to work for the Southern Union Gas Company, retiring in 1973.

She was an active member of the Hooker Church of Christ and helped plan and provide funeral dinners for the congregation for several years.

Survivors include one son, Alvin Judd and wife, Marjorie, Emporia; one daughter, Jean Newburn, Hooker; two step-sons, Ryal Gantt, Sun City, Ariz., and Dwyatt Gantt, St. Louis, Mo.; two step-daughters, Winifred Robertson, Houston, and Billie Jane McDonald, Tulare, Calif.; three grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Roy, Clarence, Everett, Walter and Floyd; and one son-in-law, Doyle Newburn.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Hooker Church of Christ, Hooker, with John Maynard and Neville Buchanan presiding. Burial will follow at the Hooker Cemetery, under the direction of the Roberts Brothers Funeral Home in Hooker.

Memorials are suggested to the Hooker Cemetery Fund or the donor's choice, in care of the Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Box 745, Hooker, OK 73945.

LEM RAFF

Lem Raff, 87, of Hooker, Oklahoma, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2001, at his home.

Lemuel Everett Raff was born October 18, 1913, on the family farm near Durham, Oklahoma. He was the son of Charles Peter and Gladys Woodard Raff. This is the area where he grew up and attended rural school.

In 1935, Lem moved to Hooker to live with his grandmother, Louisa Raff and he worked for the Rock Island Railroad. He also worked for Skip Skillings as a mechanic as well as many farmers. He worked one year for the WPA, building bridges and roads in the Hooker area.

On July 4, 1938, in Cheyenne, Oklahoma, Lem was united in marriage to Blanche Tabler. In 1946, he began work for the City of Hooker, retiring in 1979 after 33 years of service as the City Superintendent.

Lem attended the Church of the Nazarene in Hooker.

Those preceding him in death are his son Howard; three brothers,

Russell, Kenneth and Carl; ad two sisters, Elmina and Annie Rose.

Survivors include is wife, Blanche of the home; son, Sam and Bonnie Raff of Liberal, Kansas; three grandchildren, Gary and Neta Raff of Overland Park, Kansas, Debra and Allen Sullivan of Belle Chase, Louisiana, and Linda and Barry Haynes of Bedford, Texas; three brothers, Bill and Nell Raff of Burns Flat, Oklahoma, Floyd and Wilma Raff of Hooker, and Lloyd and Betty Raff of Lompoc, California; two sisters, Viola Moore of LaHabra, California, and his twin sister, Lillie Humphrey of Dalhart, Texas; daughter-in-law, Elvera Raff of Hooker; and sister-in-law, Rosie Raff of Hooker, along with 13 nieces and nine nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 2, 2001, at the Church of the Nazarene in Hooker with Rev. Dr. Dave Hoffman, Pastor officiating. Interment will be in the Hooker Cemetery with Roberts Brothers Funeral Home in Hooker in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be given to the Hooker Cemetery Fund and may be left at the Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Box 745, Hooker, OK 73945.

JACK W. HEAD

ALVA, Okla. ­ Jack Wilmar Head, 73, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, in Alva.

He was born April 28, 1927, to William C. and Georgia Blanch (Churchwell) Head in Headrick, Okla.

He married Frances Stewart in 1958, in Alva. She survives.

He served 18 months in the U.S. Navy in SAn Diego, Calif., as a firefighter.

After military service, he returned to Alva, and graduated from high school at Alva Junior College.

He went on to receive a bachelor of arts degree from Southwestern State University, a master's degree from Phillips University, and an education specialist degree from Western State University in Gunnison, Colo.

He was an educator and basketball coach in western Oklahoma, and superintendant of schools for 25 years of his 36-year career.

He coached all sports in all grades, and drove the school bus to ball games.

He taught business, history, and directed plays. He taught at Lake Valley, Okla., Richmond, Okla., Crawford, Okla., and Tangier, Okla.

He was principal and coach at Fargo, Okla., and superintendent at Cheyene Valley, Okla., Baker, Okla., Gate, Okla., and Vilas, Colo.

He was superintendent at Tyrone, Okla., the last eight years of his career. He retired in 1985 and moved to Alva.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 44 years.

He enjoyed spending time with his family.

Other survivors include two sons, Bill Head and wife, Amy, Genoa, Colo., and Tom Head and wife, Lisa, Limon, Colo.; one daughter, Brenda Hertel and husband, Michael, Cave Creek, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Aaron, Bethany, Aubrey, Candice and Jordan Head; numerous other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant sister, Lucille Irene Head.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Marshall Funeral Home Chapel with Father Dave Imming presiding.

Cremation has already taken place.

Memorials are suggested to the Share Medical Center Hospice in care of Marshall Funeral Home, 230 Flynn St., Alva, OK 73717.

LEVENE GUSTIN

HOOKER, Okla. -- Levene Gustin, 76, died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at his home in Hooker.

He was born Aug. 21, 1924, to Wheeler Amos and Agatha Ann (Schaapveld) Gustin west of Hooker.

He attended school in both Hooker and Adams, Okla., and graduated from Hooker High School.

After graduation, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps. He served with the 1st Marine, 5th Battalion, in the South Pacific during World War II.

He returned to Hooker following the war and moved to Washington, Colorado and California.

He was employed as a missile engineer at Boring, Martin-Marietta, Beech and FEC/ITT.

He was a member of the VFW, Elk's Lodge, Moose Lodge and the American Legion. He served as the game warden for Texas County, Okla., for a short time.

His hobbies included hunting, fishing and cooking.

Survivors include two sons, Levene Gustin Jr. and wife, Becky, Venus, Texas, and Joe Gustin, Oklahoma City; four daughters, Janet Kirksey and husband, Harold, Hooker, Marilyn Allen and husband, Steve, Shawnee, Okla., Brenda Herrera and husband, Gilbert, and Levena Benites and husband, David, all of Lompoc, Calif.; one brother, Eugene Gustin and wife, Frances, Eureka Springs, Ark.; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Amos Gustin and Wilber Gustin; and two sons, Wilber Gustin and Michael Gustin.

Services will be held in California at a later date.

Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association in care of Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, P.O. Box 745, Hooker, OK 73945.
