ULAH M. BLACKWELDER

HOOKER, Okla. -- Ulah Mae Blackwelder, 81, a lifelong Hooker resident, died Thursday, June 7, 2001, at Memorial Hospital of Texas County in Guymon, Okla.

She was born Jan. 17, 1920, to Albert and Ida Fox on the family homestead west of Hooker and south of Old Buffalo School.

She married Lawrence M. Blackwelder Aug. 16, 1940. He preceded her in death.

She attended the rural Buffalo school and then moved to Hooker and graduated salutatorian of her senior class at the age of 16.

She attended Panhandle State University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in English and a minor in home economics.

She and her husband lived and farmed west of Hooker.

She did work in missions with the First Baptist Church in Hooker and Panhandle Baptist Association. She was a Sunday school teacher, training union teacher, WMU leader, GA leader and director at Oklahoma Baptist Statewide Missions.

Her hobbies included gardening and doing 4-H and FFA projects with her children.

Survivors include two sons, Bruce Blackwelder and wife, Kaye, and Albert Blackwelder and wife, Carolyn, all of Hooker; one daughter, Gail Gordon and husband, Don, Hooker; 23 grandchildren, Brent and Renee Blackwelder, Dearland, Texas, Brandy Blackwelder, League City, Texas, Dana and David Davis, Liberal, Stephanie and Chris Liebman, Hardesty, Okla., Bart and Irene Blackwelder, Kansas City, Mo., Bettina and T.J. Bryant, Waukomis, Okla., Ben and Robbie Blackwelder, Guymon, Okla., Jacob and Katie Blackwelder, Isabell, Chandra and Scott Case, Manhattan, Kelly and Brent Miller, Frankfort, Germany, Codie Phelps, Oklahoma City and Caleb Phelps and Sean Phelps, Hooker; 35 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, John Fox and Fred Fox; and one sister, Irma Lowry.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Hooker with Brother Ron Mimms presiding.

Burial will be at the Hooker Cemetery in Hooker.

Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church of Home Missions in care of Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Box 745, Hooker, OK 73945.

ELSIE M. JACOBS

HOOKER, Okla. ­ Elsie Marie (Thomas) Jacobs, 64, died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at her home in Hooker.

She was born Feb. 26, 1937, to Mac and Angela Thomas in Garden City.

She married Robert "Bob" James Jacobs Feb. 23, 1955, in Clayton, N.M. He died Dec. 25, 1998.

She and her husband moved from Lakin to Hooker in 1961.

She was a homemaker, a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and a member of TOPPS Club.

She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hooker.

Survivors include two sons, Kenneth "Jake" Jacobs and wife, Marilee, and David Jacobs and wife, Maria, all of Hooker; one daughter, Veronica "Vicky" Jacobs, of the home; three brothers, Mack Thomas, Amarillo, Texas, Jimmy Dean Stout, Henderson, Colo., and John Thomas, Cheyenne, Okla.; two sisters, Donna Huff, Ft. Hills Ranch, Calif., and Sandra Colon, Canon City, Colo.; eight grandchildren, Kenlee Jacobs, Ottumwa, Iowa, Shawn Jacobs, Skye Jacobs and Shannon Jacobs, all of Guymon, Okla., Kimberly Jacobs and Leslie Jacobs, both of Hooker, Mikel Smothermon, Hamilton, Ohio, and Megin Miller, El Paso, Texas; and four great-grandchildren, Adina Smothermon and Xavier Smothermon, both of Hamilton, Laura Buttry and Dylan Miller, both of El Paso.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, John Anthony; and one grandson, Kasey Duane Jacobs.

A Rosary service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hooker with Deacon Paolo Dulcamara presiding.

Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hooker with Father Scott Adams presiding.

Burial will be at the Hooker Cemetery in Hooker.

Memorials are suggested to to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church or to the Hooker Ambulance Association, both in care of Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Box 745, Hooker, OK 73945.

RAYMOND MASCHMEIER

TURPIN, Okla. -- Raymond G. Maschmeier, 74, Turpin, died Monday, June 4, 2001, at Via Christi St. Francis Campus in Wichita.

He was born Jan. 5, 1927, to Charles and Carolina (Weideman) Maschmeier in rural Beaver County, Okla.

He had been a lifetime resident of Beaver County.

He was an expert marksman in the U.S. Army.

He farmed for many years with his family and Gene Franz. He was also a carpenter, and later he was employed as a heavy equipment operator by Beaver County District No. 3. He retired in 1997.

His hobbies included hunting and raising hunting dogs.

Survivors include one sister, Edna Woods, Turpin, whom he lived with for the past 16 years; nieces and nephews, Sharon Woods, JoAnn Woods Wiggens, Belva Freeman Hickey, Roberta Freeman Kepley, Charles Freeman, Johnnie Maschmeier, Annette Maschmeier Ille, Lou Ellas Maschmeier Regier, Cara Beth Maschmeier Clinesmith, Teresa Maschmeier Williams, and Orville Isaacs; sisters-in-law, Mary Ellen Maschmeier and Velma Maschmeier; and numerous great, great-great and great-great-great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John Maschmeier and Charles Maschmeier; two sisters, Carrie Maschmeier Pelton and Ella Maschmeier Freeman; two nephews, Nemo Freeman and Robert Maschmeier; one nice, Shirley Woods; and two great-nieces.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Liberal with Pastor Andrew Wehling presiding.

Burial will be at Liberal Cemetery in Liberal.

Friends may call from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 8-11 a.m. Friday at Miller Mortuary in Liberal.

The family suggests memorials to the Alexis Wiggins Friendship Fund in care of First National Bank in Elkhart or in care of Miller Mortuary, 908 N. Lincoln, Liberal, KS 67901.

RENA "VIRGINIA" CROUSE

GUYMON, Okla. -- Rena "Virginia" Crouse, 73, died Saturday, June 2, 2001, at her home in Guymon.

She was born Dec. 29, 1927, to Bertram and Rena (Derves) Hanna in Breckenridge, Texas.

She married John L. Crouse in Noble, Ill. He died June 16, 1977.

She had been a resident of Guymon since 1990.

She was a housewife.

Survivors include two sons, Gregory Crouse, Nashville, Tenn., and Jeffery Crouse, Stuttgart, Germany; one daughter, Jennifer Yoder, Elkhart; one brother, Bill Hanna, Houston, Texas; two sisters, Bessie Johnson, West Columbia, Texas, and Mary Skelton, Noble; and three grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Elkhart Cemetery in Elkhart, with the Rev. Ken Van presiding.

Burial will take place in the Elkhart Cemetery.

Friends may call from 9-10 a.m. Tuesday at the Harrell Funeral Home in Elkhart.

Memorials are suggested to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital in care of Harrell Funeral Home, 514 Kansas Avenue, Elkhart, KS 67950.

CLAIRE K. (HALL) CORDES

FORGAN, Okla. -- Claire K. (Hall) Cordes, 94, died Friday, June 1, 2001, at the Beaver County Nursing Home in Beaver.

She was born Aug. 6, 1906, to Samuel and Lillian (Stedke) Kanaga in Ness County.

She attended public school in Ness County before establishing herself as a licensed cosmetologist in Ness City. She later traveled widely as a salesperson for many years.

She married Elmer Lee Hall Dec. 23, 1930, in Ness City. He died June 14, 1951.

She married Walter Herman Cordes May 26, 1958. He died March 26, 1969.

She moved to Beaver County in 1935. She lived in the Greenough Community and moved to Forgan in 1958.

She was the deputy county assessor for Beaver County for 25 years. She retired in 1981, but continued for many years on a part time basis.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Forgan, and the Greenough Farm Womens Club.

Survivors include three sons, Samuel Earl Hall and wife, Gloria, Salem, Ore., Richard Lee Hall and wife, Beverly, Forgan, and Jerry Elmer Hall and wife, Burnell, Forgan; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; two sisters; one step-son, Durward; and one grandson.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Forgan, with the Revs. Mike Mackey, Paul Nachtigal and Wayne Moore presiding.

Burial will follow at the Liberal Cemetery in Liberal.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. until service time Tuesday, at the First Baptist Church in Forgan.

The family suggests memorials to the First Baptist Church or to the Beaver County Nursing Home, both in care of Miller Mortuary, 908 N. Lincoln, Liberal, KS 67905.

CLETA PEARL LOOMIS

LAVERNE, Okla. -- Cleta Pearl Loomis, 73, died Saturday, June 2, 2001, at Mercy Health Center in Oklahoma City.

She was born April 11, 1928, to Thomas Alonzo and Mary Neona (Robinette) Wiles in Laverne.

She attended school in Laverne.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Women's Missionary of Assembly of God.

She married Charles Wesley Loomis Feb. 27, 1947, in Ashland. He survives.

Other survivors include one son, Eldon Earl Loomis and wife, Tina, Beggs, Okla.; one daughter, Barbara Blevins and husband, Geary, Pierceville, Okla.; two sisters, Ruby Patterson, Tonkawa, Okla., and Marie Skinner, Liberal; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Vernon "Butch" Loomis in 1999; one brother, Glenn Wiles in 1993; one sister, Violet Kinser in 2000; and one infant grandchild, Debbie Jo Blevins in 1972.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Assembly of God Church in Laverne, with the Revs. Wes Peterman and Jim Fox presiding.

Burial will follow at the Laverne Memorial Cemetery in Laverne.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at the Myatt-Seeger Funeral Home in Laverne.

Memorials are suggested to the Assembly of God Women's Missionary's in care of the Myatt-Seeger Funeral Home, P.O. Box 909, Laverne, OK 73848.
