DOROTHA BEASLEY

GUYMON, Okla. -- Dorotha Gertrude Beasley, 90, longtime Guymon resident, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2001, at Memorial Hospital of Texas County in Guymon.

She was born Nov. 20, 1910, to Nile and Hazel Gertrude (Dorris) Roberts in Manchester, Grant County, Okla.

She and her family homesteaded west of Guymon in 1915.

She attended the Lone Star School.

She married Prentis Sargent "Cap" Beasley Sept. 8, 1940, in Miami, Texas. He died in 1997.

She and her husband made their home 9 miles south of Four-Corners. They moved to the original Beasley Ranch south of Hooker in 1957. They moved to their present ranch home, east of the Beaver River, in 1969, due to the construction on the Optima Dam.

She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene.

She was a homemaker.

Her hobbies included gardening.

Survivors include one daughter, Adeline Hensley and husband, Elmer, Loveland, Colo.; one son, Murry Beasley and wife, Sandra, Guymon; one step-son, Prentis Sargent Beasley II and wife, Shirley, Bluesprings, Mo.; one sister, Bertha Thies, Norman, Okla.; five grandchildren, Galya Barden, David Hensley, Wendell Beasley, Corcy Beasley and Jamie Beasley; two step-grandchildren, Wade Beasley and Joyce Grubb; 14 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; one son, Wendell Reeves in 1996; two sisters, Elsie Whittet and Goldie Claybrook; five brothers, Walter Roberts, Leslie Roberts, Ralph Roberts, Lonnie Roberts and Dale Roberts; and two grandsons, Ronnie Hensley and Steven Hensley.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. today at the Henson-Novak Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Terry Armstrong, pastor of the Church of the Nazarene, presiding.

Burial followed at Elmhurst Cemetery in Guymon.

A memorial has been established for the Panhandle Area Sheltered Workshop, PASW. Memorials may be sent in care of Henson-Novak Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1306, Guymon, OK 73942.

WALTER O. HUEBNER

TURPIN, Okla. -- Walter O. Huebner, 68, Turpin, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

He was born Oct. 7, 1932, to Walter G. and Elsa (Pfeifer) Huebner in Beaver, Okla.

He grew up in the Turpin community and graduated from Turpin High School in 1951.

He graduated from Panhandle State University in Goodwell, Okla., where he received a degree in industrial arts and minor degrees in math and science.

He lived in Elkhart, where he worked for Bultman's. Upon returning to Turpin, he was employed by Frantz Fabricators and farmed for many years.

His hobbies including helping others and the Turpin senior citizens.

Survivors include one sister, Emma Lou Hodges and husband, Albert Jr., Forgan, Okla.; four nephews, Alan Hodges and wife, Rhonda, Jerry Hodges and wife, Janet, Brent Hodges and wife, Jeri, and Mark Hodges and wife, Sharon; and several great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one niece.

Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Liberal Cemetery in Liberal.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Miller Mortuary in Liberal.

The family suggests memorials to either the Turpin Senior Citizens Center or to the Beaver County Nursing Home, both in care of Miller Mortuary, 908 N. Lincoln, Liberal, KS 67901.

VELLA M. LEES

HOOKER, Okla. -- Vella M. Lees, 80, Oklahoma City, formerly of Hooker, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001, at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City, Okla.

She was born Feb. 26, 1921, to Charlie and Lena (Welch) Montgomery in Campo, Colo.

She married Jack Lees Aug. 25, 1940, at her parent's home in Guymon. He survives.

She and her family moved to a farm north of Guymon, Okla., and she attended school in Guymon and graduated from Guymon High School in 1938.

She and her husband lived on the family farm until 1985 when they moved to Hooker.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hooker and the UMW.

Her hobbies included playing cards.

Other survivors include one son, Ray Lees and wife, Lisa, Oklahoma City; one daughter, Dana Garcia and husband, Benny, Shamrock, Texas; three brothers, Leon Montgomery, Fullerton, Calif., Earl Montgomery and wife, Klea, Socorro, N.M., and Bill Montgomery, Las Vegas; one brother-in-law, J.L. Johnson, Guymon; and seven grandchildren, Angie Garcia, Kim Garcia, Allison Lees, Alicia Lees, Matt Lees, Chase Dickens and Alexis Dickens.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Charlie Montgomery Jr.; and one sister, Marjorie Johnson.

Graveside services will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the Hooker Cemetery in Hooker with the Rev. Kim Domnick presiding.

Memorials are suggested to the Olive Warner Public Library in Hooker in care of Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Box 745, Hooker, OK 73945.

SYLVIA L. RHOADES

MANNFORD, Okla. -- Sylvia L. Rhoades, 88, died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2001, at Cimarron Pointe Nursing Home in Mannford.

She was born Feb. 10, 1913, to Neal L. and Willa (Webb) Schooley in Wellsford.

She married Lester Roland Rhodes July 17, 1932, at her mother's home near Hooker, Okla. He died Feb. 19, 1985.

She graduated from Tyrone, Okla., High School in 1930. She then attended Panhandle A&M in Goodwell, Okla. She received a bachelor's degree in education from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Okla., Aug. 3, 1954.

She taught at Sunny Slope near Hooker for one year.

She moved to Mannford in 1943, where she taught at Mannford public schools for 26 years. She retired in May of 1973.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mannford, where she taught Sunday school.

She was also a member of Eastern Star and the Mannford Historical Society, both in Mannford.

She moved to the Baptist Retirement Village in Cleveland until Dec. 1, 2000, and then to Cimarron Pointe Nursing Home.

Her hobbies included gardening, sewing, making quilts, reading, camping, fishing and traveling. She was also a member of the Keystone Coyote Camping Club.

Survivors include one son, Harold Glenn Rhoades and wife, Sharon, Royston, Georgia; one daughter, Willa Mae Gowdy, and husband, Dale, Cleveland; one brother, Harold Schooley, Elk City, Okla.; one sister, Vida Lyles, Hooker, Okla.; six grandchildren, Kim Sutton, Tulsa, Okla., Roland Gowdy, Owasso, Okla., Adam and Seth Rhoades, both of Kansas City, Mo., Lisa Williamson, Royston, and Scott Delany, Muncie, Ind.; and two great-grandchildren, Saron and Samuel Williamson, Royston.

Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001, at the First Baptist Church in Mannford with the Revs. Dale Gowdy and James Beck presiding.

Private family burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery in Mannford.

Mobley-Dodson Funeral Service in Sand Springs, Okla., was in charge of arrangements.

The family suggests memorials to either the Baptist Children's Home, 3800 N. May, Oklahoma City, OK 73112, or to Mannford Historical Society, Mannford, OK 74044.

GEORGIA L. CLANCY

TYRONE, Okla. -- Georgia L. Clancy, 84, Tyrone, died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, at Memorial Hospital of Texas County in Guymon, Okla.

She was born Dec. 3, 1916, to Elmer L. and Flossie (Turner) Vaughn in Dombey, Okla.

She married Lavern Clancy Aug. 7, 1938, in Tyrone. He died Feb. 28, 1972.

She moved to Liberal as a young girl and graduated from Liberal High School in 1935.

She was a practical nurse for Drs. Hilbig and McCreight for several years.

After her marriage, she moved northwest of Tyrone to farm with her husband, which they did for many years.

She was a member of the Methodist Church, a life member of the Rebekah Lodge and the Past Noble Grand Club, all of Tyrone.

Survivors include one son, Ronnie Clancy and wife, Dianne, Tyrone; one brother, Clint Vaughn, Benton; three sisters, Stella Bloomingdale, Wichita, Marie LaGue and husband, David, Kansas City, Mo., and Glenna Hollis and husband, Gary, Elk City, Okla.; one grandson, Mark Clancy and wife, Stephanie, Tyrone; and one great-grandson, Bryce Clancy, Tyrone.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the United Methodist Church in Tyrone with Dr. Benny Boling and the Rev. Kim Domnick presiding.

Burial will be at the Tyrone Cemetery in Tyrone.

Friends may call from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at Miller Mortuary in Liberal.

The family suggests memorials to the United Methodist Church in Tyrone in care of Miller Mortuary, 908 N. Lincoln, Liberal, KS 67905.

JAY D. SMITH

KNOWLES, Okla. -- Jay Dee Smith, 63, died Friday, Sept. 14, 2001, in Henderson, Nev.

He was born Nov. 21, 1937, to Theodore James and Maxine Frances (Caldwell) Smith in Rosston, Okla.

He had been a resident of Henderson since 1974.

He was a retired skycap for the airlines industry.

Survivors include his wife, Louise; one son, Kevin Smith, Henderson; two daughters, Deborah Purmal, Las Vegas, and Sabra Brewster, Laverne, Okla.; his mother, Woodward, Okla.; one brother, Dan Smith, Edmond, Okla.; three sisters, Melita Gieswin, Woodward, Okla., Barbara Hoefner, Ft. Worth, Texas, and Donna Weston, Bridgeport, N.Y.; four grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Beaver United Methodist Church in Beaver, Okla., with the Rev. Lynn E. Spencer presiding.

Burial will be at the Knowles Cemetery in Knowles.

Clark Funeral Service in Beaver is in charge of arrangements.
