LELAND D. BARBY

BEAVER, Okla. -- Leland D. Barby, 63, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001, in Oklahoma City.

He was born Sept. 20, 1937, to Judge Otto C. and Anna (Hughes) Barby in Beaver.

He married Carole Sue Barby.

He graduated from Panhandle State University with a degree in animal husbandry.

He was a rancher in Beaver County.

He was a past master of Beaver Lodge No. 269 A.F. and A.M.; a 32nd degree Mason; a member of the Guthrie Scottish Rites Consistory; and a member of the India Shrine of Oklahoma City.

He was also a member of the National Cutting Horse Association, the Oklahoma Cattleman's Association, the National Quarter Horse Association, the Oklahoma Royalty Owner's Association and the National Cowboy Hall of Fame.

He was also a pioneer member of the No Man's Land Historical Society and an ambassador of the National Association of Royalty Owners.

His hobbies including riding horses, and he competed nationally in cutting horse competitions.

Survivors include two daughters, Dr. Amanda Lynn Bogie and husband, Dr. Charles Bogie III, Oklahoma City, and Melissa Paige Byers and husband, Dr. Matthew Byers, Sarasota, Fla.; and four grandchildren, Ryan and Brett Bogie and Alexandra and Cameron Byers.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Carlton Barby.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Christian Church in Beaver.

Private burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Oklahoma City.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Beaver County Memorial Hospital or to the charity of the donor's choice.

Hahn-Cook, Street and Draper Funeral Home in Oklahoma City is in charge of arrangements.

BONNIE A. HAYES

BEAVER, Okla. -- Bonnie Anna Laura Hayes, 88, died Friday, Aug. 24, 2001, in Oklahoma City.

She was born Sept. 2, 1912, to Carrie and Fred A. Dickinson in Frederick, Okla.

She married Wayne Howard Hayes Sept. 22, 1931, in Sapulpa, Okla. He preceded her in death.

She was a homemaker.

She had been a resident of Beaver for 43 years.

She was a member of the Faith Community Chapel in Beaver for more than 20 years.

Survivors include one son, Gerald "Jerry" Hayes, Independence, Mo.; two daughters, Leanna J. Brady, Oklahoma City, and Marcy Howard, Beaver; three sisters, LaFon Tharp, Oklahoma City, Freddie Ennis, Tallahassee, Fla., and Gene Thornton, Wichita; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m. today at the Faith Community Chapel in Beaver with Read Barby presiding.

Burial was at the Pioneer Cemetery in Beaver under the direction of Clark Funeral Service in Beaver.

DOMINGO C. ORTIZ

HOOKER, Okla. -- Domingo C. Ortiz, 86, died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2001, at his home in Hooker.

He was born Jan. 1, 1915, to Luis and Pomposa (Chavez) Ortiz in Lamar, Colo.

He married Tillie Vargas Sept. 28, 1946, in Lamar. She survives.

He farmed with his family in Hartman County.

He entered the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in the European Theater from 1942 to 1945.

He and his wife farmed in Granada, Colo., and in Albuquerque, N.M., before moving back to Granada.

They moved to Hooker in 1968, and he worked at Master Feeders for over 20 years and at Hooker Public Schools for 10 years.

After retirement, he worked for various area farmers until 1998.

He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hooker.

Survivors include one son, Corey Ortiz and wife, Wendy, Hooker; three daughters, Helen Sandoval and husband, Victor, Hooker,

Theresa Robles and husband, Joe, San Angelo, Texas, and Veronica Garcia and husband, Anthony, Liberal; five brothers, Bobby Ortiz, Granada, Frank Ortiz, Jarales, N.M., Cidro Ortiz, Kyle, S.D., Cristrino Oritz, Lamar, Colo., and Frank Ortiz, Laguna Hill, Calif.; four sisters, Minnie Waldron, Dodge City, Blasa Hartford, Cypress, Calif., Mary Martinez, Longmont, Colo., and Gloria Greear, Livingston, Mont.; six grandchildren, Victor, Chantry, Joseph, Cruz, Adrian and Crystal; and six great-grandchildren, Kyle, Skyler, Gavin, Marina, Raymond and Jasmine.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Tina Ortiz; three brothers, Perry Ortiz, Jesse Ortiz and Anthony Ortiz; and one sister, Nestora Lopez.

A rosary will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Guymon, Okla.

Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Guymon.

Burial will be at the Hooker Cemetery in Hooker.

Memorials are suggested to either the American Cancer Society or to the charity of the donor's choice, both in care of Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Box 745, Hooker, OK 73945.

JESSE INGLAND JR.

FORGAN, Okla. -- Jesse "Jack" Ingland Jr., 78, Forgan, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center St. Francis Campus in Wichita.

He was born Aug. 25, 1923, to Jesse E. and Nellie M. (Leaming) Ingland in Beaver County, Okla.

He attended Greenough High School in Greenough, Okla.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army.

He farmed for several years before moving to Liberal in 1946, where he owned and operated Jack and Jill Grocery on south Kansas Avenue for many years.

He returned to Forgan in 1973, where he was employed at Beaver State Park. He retired in 1988.

He was a member of the Fargo Lodge No. 300 in Liberal, where he served as Past Master, York Rite, Scottish Rite and the Wichita Consistory.

Survivors include one brother, Harvey Ingland, Liberal; five sisters, Darlene McCarter and husband, Burt, Forgan, Pat Hershey and husband, Dale, DeRidder, La., Helen Louderback, Liberal, Ruby Mae Norris and husband, Keith, Amarillo, Texas, and Bernice Spellings and husband, Jim, Merced, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and three brothers.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Forgan with the Rev. David Mercer presiding.

Burial will be at the Forgan Cemetery in Forgan.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at Miller Mortuary and from 11 a.m. until service time Thursday at the Forgan United Methodist Church.

The family suggests memorials to either the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association, both in care of Miller Mortuary, 908 N. Lincoln, Liberal, KS 67901.

GORDON L. GRICE

GUYMON, Okla. -- Gordon Lee Grice, 79, died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2001, at Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo, Texas, as the result of an automobile accident.

He was born Nov. 10, 1921, to

J.R. "Tom" and Anna M. (Jones) Grice four miles west of Guymon at the family homestead.

He married Lavon Forbes Feb. 18, 1941, at her family home north of Guymon. She died in December of 1988.

He had been a lifelong resident of the Guymon area.

He retired from farming and trucking in 1994.

He was a member of the No Man's Land Antique Power Association and the First Families of the Twin Territories of Oklahoma.

He was also a member of the Sunset Lane Baptist Church in Guymon.

In the 1970s, he and his wife went on two missionary journeys to Israel, South Africa, Ireland and Holland. He went on a third trip to England and Ireland.

His hobbies included renovating old tractors and attending and participating in tractor pulls.

Survivors include two sons, Rance Grice and wife, Janice, Kenton, Okla., and David Grice and wife, Gloria, Guymon; one daughter, Carolyn Blackwelder and husband, Albert, Hooker, Okla.; one brother, Charles Grice and wife, Lu, Dalhart, Texas; one sister, Anna Jean Danner, Guymon; 15 grandchildren, Faye Grice, Meg Grice, Gordon D. Grice, Mary Bond, Bettina Bryant, Mark Grice, Bart Blackwelder, Ben Blackwelder, Luke Grice, Jacob Blackwelder, Sarah Hacker, Hannah Grice, Esther Grice, John Grice and Paul Grice; 28 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; two infant daughters, Ruby Leila and Rose Anna; five brothers, Jim Grice, Mac Grice, Joe Grice, Ted Tebo and Melvin Tebo; six sisters, Mary Coy Bedee, Lizzie Ogan, Ida Brooks, Ella Booth Miller, Lucille Brittain and Ruby Kirkpatrick; and one great-granddaughter, Abilene Lavon Grice.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Sunset Lane Baptist Church in Guymon with Rance Grice and the Rev. Lloyd Riddles presiding.

Burial will be at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, located southeast of Hardesty, Okla.

The family suggests memorials to either the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery Fund or the Billy Graham Ministries, both in care of Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1112, Guymon, OK 73942.
