WALDO W. WILLS

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Waldo Wallace Wills, 87, died Sunday,

Aug. 12, 2001, at Oklahoma Christian Retirement Community in Oklahoma City.

He was born Nov. 18, 1913, to Dell and Beatrice Wills in Kinsley.

He married Dorothy Ellen Wills in 1939. She survives.

He graduated from high school in Plains and earned a bachelor's degree at Friends University in Wichita.

He was a navigator for United Airlines during World War II. He transported supplies to the Pacific out of San Francisco, and he returned injured service men back to the U.S.

After the war, he was district manager at State Farm in California. Later, he managed the family farm in Kansas.

He and his wife moved to Oklahoma City after retiring in 1977.

He was a member of Church of the Servant.

Other survivors include one son, Wayne Wills and wife, Linda, Argyle, Texas; one daughter, Dianne Meacham and husband, Denver W. II, Edmond, Okla.; one sister, Wilma Manka, Nashville; three grandchildren, Derek and Damon Hammond, both of Dallas, and Kelly Gonzalez and husband, Carlos, Fort Worth, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother-in-law, Ellis Manka; and one granddaughter, Ashley Danielle Hammond.

Memorial services were at 3 p.m. today at Hahn-Cook Chapel in Oklahoma City.

Memorials are suggested to either Vista Care Hospice Foundation, 4045 N.W. 64th St., Ste. 210, Oklahoma City, OK 73116; Oklahoma Christian Retirement Community, 906 N. Boulevard, Edmond, OK 73034; or to the donor's choice.

KATHY A. REGAN

GUYMON, Okla. -- Kathy Ann Regan, 50, formerly of Adams, Okla., died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001, at RHD Hospital in Dallas.

She was born Dec. 22, 1950, to Kenneth and Velma (Martens) Fast in Liberal.

She married Robert Regan Nov. 23, 1973.

She grew up in the Adams community and attended Adams Grade School. She graduated from Hooker High School in Hooker, Okla., in 1969.

She received a bachelor's degree in

music education from Oklahoma State University and a master's degree in education from Northern Arizona University.

She taught elementary music in Phoenix for many years before moving to Dallas in 1986.

She was on the faculty at the Good Shepherd Episcopal School in Dallas, where she taught Early Childhood Enrichment, Primmer and Fine Arts.

She was a member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Dallas.

Survivors include her mother of Guymon; one son, John Robert Regan of the home; three sisters, Jone Friesen and husband, Roland, Tulsa, Okla., Donna Johnson and husband, Wayne, Guymon, and Virginia Deeds and Gary Littlepage, both of Dallas; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father on Dec. 19, 1999.

Graveside services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Adams Mennonite Brethren Cemetery in Adams.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Guymon with the Rev. James A. Jacobson presiding.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today at Henson-Novak Funeral Home in Guymon.

Memorials are suggested to the Good Shepherd Parent's Organization for the John Regan Trust in care of Henson-Novak Funeral Home, Box 1306, Guymon, OK 73942.

ALBERT HERBEL

HOOKER, Okla. -- Albert Herbel, 81, Hooker, died Tuesday, June 12, 2001, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

He was born April 28, 1920, to George and Lydia (Steinert) Herbel on the family farm west of Hooker.

He married Helen M. Hoeme Oct. 5, 1946, in Hooker. She survives.

He attended Buffalo School, St. John's Parochial School and Optima High School in Optima, Okla.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served from 1942 to 1945 in the U.S. Air Force. He served in Australia, New Guinea and the Phillipines.

He was a long-time member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Hooker, where he served as treasurer, trustee, Sunday school teacher and usher.

He once was employed as a mechanic at Hofferber trucking. He opened his own business, Herbel Machine Shop and Trucking, in 1954.

He also partnered with C.J. Hammack to open Hooker TV Cable in 1957.

He opened Hooker's first ready-mix concrete plant in 1962, and his business became Herbel Concrete and Steel Erectors Inc.

He sold his share of the of the local cable company in the early 1970s. In 1999, he sold the concrete portion of his business but continued to work.

He served on the Hooker City Council for 12 years.

Other survivors include one son, Richard G. Herbel, Oxford, Mich.; one daughter, Sheila Blankenship, Hooker; one daughter-in-law, Barbara Herbel, Englewood, Colo; three sisters, Leona Dorsch of Muskogee, Okla., Marie Bruton, Jefferson City, Mo., and Pauline Lane, Hooker; three grandchildren, Emily and Katie Herbel, both of Englewood, and Ian Blankenship of Hooker; and many nieces,

nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Charles A. "Chuck" Herbel; one sister, Viola Hofferber; and four brothers-in-law, Jay Bruton, Dave Dorsch, Alex Hofferber and Ed Lane.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hooker with the Revs. Christopher M. Boehnke and Mark Wescoatt presiding.

Burial will be at the Hooker Cemetery in Hooker.

Memorials are suggested to the St. John's Lutheran Church or to the charity of the donor's choice, both in care of Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Box 745, Hooker, OK 73945.

ULAH M. BLACKWELDER

HOOKER, Okla. -- Ulah Mae Blackwelder, 81, a lifelong Hooker resident, died Thursday, June 7, 2001, at Memorial Hospital of Texas County in Guymon, Okla.

She was born Jan. 17, 1920, to Albert and Ida Fox on the family homestead west of Hooker and south of Old Buffalo School.

She married Lawrence M. Blackwelder Aug. 16, 1940. He preceded her in death.

She attended the rural Buffalo school and then moved to Hooker and graduated salutatorian of her senior class at the age of 16.

She attended Panhandle State University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in English and a minor in home economics.

She and her husband lived and farmed west of Hooker.

She did work in missions with the First Baptist Church in Hooker and Panhandle Baptist Association. She was a Sunday school teacher, training union teacher, WMU leader, GA leader and director at Oklahoma Baptist Statewide Missions.

Her hobbies included gardening and doing 4-H and FFA projects with her children.

Survivors include two sons, Bruce Blackwelder and wife, Kaye, and Albert Blackwelder and wife, Carolyn, all of Hooker; one daughter, Gail Gordon and husband, Don, Hooker; 23 grandchildren, Brent and Renee Blackwelder, Dearland, Texas, Brandy Blackwelder, League City, Texas, Dana and David Davis, Liberal, Stephanie and Chris Liebman, Hardesty, Okla., Bart and Irene Blackwelder, Kansas City, Mo., Bettina and T.J. Bryant, Waukomis, Okla., Ben and Robbie Blackwelder, Guymon, Okla., Jacob and Katie Blackwelder, Isabell, Chandra and Scott Case, Manhattan, Kelly and Brent Miller, Frankfort, Germany, Codie Phelps, Oklahoma City and Caleb Phelps and Sean Phelps, Hooker; 35 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, John Fox and Fred Fox; and one sister, Irma Lowry.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Hooker with Brother Ron Mimms presiding.

Burial will be at the Hooker Cemetery in Hooker.

Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church of Home Missions in care of Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Box 745, Hooker, OK 73945.
