Ima Lee Smith

Age 85, Duncan, Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Tuesday in the First Baptist Church, Elgin, with Rev. Kris Lamle, pastor officiating.

Mrs. Smith died Friday in a Duncan hospital.

Burial will be in the Elgin Memorial Lawn Cemetery under the direction of the Becker Funeral Home of Fletcher (formerly Robbins Funeral Home).

She was born June 13, 1919 in Quitman, Texas to Charlie Alexander and Lona Lee Deuson. She married Finis P. Smith on December 9, 1941 in Fletcher, Oklahoma. He died January 12, 1981. She and her husband owned Smith’s Garage in Elgin for 35 years. Mrs. Smith was a member of the First Baptist Church in Elgin and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include 3 children, Judy Boozer, Fred M. Smith and Larenda L. Clark and her husband Terry L., all of Duncan, Oklahoma; 7 grandchildren, Ralynda Wiersema, Fletcher, OK,; Melissa Renee Dalston, Comanche, OK; Cara Adams, Elgin, OK; Richard Smith, Lawton, OK; Jessica Lewis, Wichita, KS; Jennifer Clark, Lawton, OK and Laura Clark, Duncan, OK; 7 great grandchildren, Drew Wiersema, Lacey Wiersema, Zachary Dalston, Ashley Dalston, Wayde Morris, Alex Adams and Levi Brimm.

Her parents, 3 brothers, Lawrence, Leonard and Doyle Deuson and 2 sisters, Verna Mae Heilman and Mary Lou Morris preceded her in death.

Louise K. Story

Age 82 , Lawton - Graveside service will be at 4:00 pm Monday in the Highland Cemetery with Rev. Cliff Gravitt, officiating.

Mrs. Story died Thursday in Lawton.

Burial will be under the direction of the Becker Funeral Home.

She was born December 20, 1922 in Lawton to Roscoe C. and Sadie Louise Hansen Richardson. She lived in Lawton all of her life and had attended Lawton High School. She was married to Bud L. Story on May 3, 1947 in Lawton. He died December 16, 1996. She had worked for Autry Cleaners, which later became Speck Sanders and Friendly Cleaners, until her retirement. She had been a den leader with Cub Scouts.

Survivors include eight grandchildren, Shelly Lynn Story, Rockingham, North Carolina, David Astalos, Monroe, North Carolina, Tiffany Pool, Oklahoma City, Michael Story, Lawton, Buddy Lee Story, Olympia, Washington, Jennifer Story, Lawton, Constance Wallace, Cache, and Christopher Story, Lawton; eight great grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Baker, Lampasas, Texas.

A daughter, Patricia Ann Story, two sons, Tony Nelson Pool and Dennis Lee Story, seven brothers and one sister, preceded her in death.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Comanche County Unit of the American Cancer Society.

Donald W. Cox

Age 61, Meers - Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday at Cameron Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Jones, pastor officiating.

Mr. Cox died Wednesday in a local hospital.

Burial with military honors will in Walters Cemetery under the direction of the Becker Funeral Home.

He was born January 7, 1945 in Wichita Falls, Texas to Charles Warren and Helen Louise Cox. He married Paula Griffith on April 23, 1981. Mr. Cox served in the U.S. Marines as a helicopter pilot, where he had the honor of flying two presidents. He served one tour in Vietnam. He was the owner of Cox Valley Dairy in Meers. He was a volunteer firefighter in Meers and was a former president of the Meers Chamber of Commerce. He was also involved in the Tour de Meers. He received the Citizen of the Year Award in Lawton. Mr. Cox had worked at Paige Aircraft and had also worked for 29 years at Northrop-Grumman. He was currently working for Civil Service at Altus Air Force Base. He was a member of Cameron Baptist Church, where he taught 8th grade Sunday School.

Survivors include his wife, of the home, two daughters; Helen Louise Cox-Chedester and her husband Jason, and Amy Jo Goodin and her husband Sidney, all of Lawton, three sons; Donald R. Cox and his wife Shelly, Justin, Texas, Todd Paul Cox and his wife Tracy D., and Chad F. Griffith and his wife Dawn, all of Lawton, a brother; Frank Cox and his wife Glenda, North Carolina, a sister; Jeanette Ward and her husband Charles, Arkansas, and nine grandchildren; Chance Ballard, Sky Chedester, Dallas Goodin, Josh Goodin, Zane Goodin, Jesse James Cox, Cody Cox, Brooke Cox, and Paige Marie Griffith.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and a brother; Charles Ray Cox.

Doris M. Hill

Age 81, Wichita Falls, Texas - Funeral services will be at 1:30 pm Friday, June 30 in the Becker Funeral Home Chapel with Emmett Hayslip, Mountain Park, officiating.

Mrs. Hill died Sunday in Wichita Falls.

Burial will be in the Mountain Park Cemetery, Mountain Park, Oklahoma under the direction of the Becker Funeral Home of Snyder.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.

She was born March 11, 1925 in Kiowa County near the Cold Springs Community to Coy and Jewel Grantham, well established farmers in the area. She graduated from Mountain Park High School in 1942. On July 7, 1944 she married Harold Ray Hill and together they established a farm near Mountain Park where they lived until their land became part of the Tom Steed Lake Project. At that time, they bought a home between Mountain Park and Snyder. In 1995 she sold the farm and moved to eastern Oklahoma to be near her daughter Cathy Niebruegge. She was a long time member and pianist of the Mountain Park Baptist Church until she moved her letter to the Caney Baptist Church in Caney, Oklahoma. She later moved to the Wichita Falls, Texas area where she resided at Midwestern Health care Center to be close to her other daughter Janis Wilson.

Survivors include two daughters, Janis Wilson and her husband David of Iowa Park, Texas and Cathy Niebruegge of Atoka, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Joanna McGee and husband Rick and Jimmy Ray Wilson and wife Leslie all of Wichita Falls, Texas, Steven Wilson and wife Sheila of Rapid City, South Dakota and Stephanie Fremin and husband Joe of Walters, Oklahoma; five great grandchildren, first cousins, Betty Pearl Wilkerson and family of Manter, Kansas, Glen Grantham and family of San Diego, California, June Grantham and family of Mountain Park, Oklahoma and Gary Grantham and family of Lawton, Oklahoma. Special friends, Ms. Peggy McBride of Atoka, Oklahoma, Mandi Beasley and Susan Thomas of Wichita Falls, Texas and numerous relatives from California, Texas, Oklahoma and Colorado.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband

Edith Birdwell Zarling

Age 87, Lawton - Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Saturday, July 15, 2006 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church with The Rev. Dr. Stephen Hale, pastor and Les Banks, chaplain, Hospice of Southwest Oklahoma officiating.

Mrs. Zarling died Wednesday at her residence

Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of the Becker Funeral Home.

Edith was born October 7, 1918 in Blanchard, Oklahoma to Ben and Nettie Birdwell. The family moved from Blanchard to Fletcher, moving to the Birdwell Farm. She grew up and attended Mt. View Grade School and High School at Fletcher, she graduated in 1936. She then attended Cameron College for two years. She was employed by S.H. Kress Company, City National Bank and Fort Sill National Bank. She worked for Montgomery Ward as secretary for management, cashier and then as credit manager for 20 years. In 1958 she went to work for the Fort Sill Federal Credit Union. She Held the position as cashier, loan officer, assistant manager and was manager from 1974 to 1978 at which time she retired. She married Lt. William (Bill) Zarling on March 20, 1946 in Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He was a pilot and instructor in the Air Force. Their 54 years of married life was spent around Enid and Lawton. They had one daughter who died at birth. Lt. Col. William Zarling died January 21, 2000.

Edith was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and the Questors Sunday School Class. She was also active with the United Methodist Women’s Alpha Circle.

Survivors include a sister, Velma Rohrman of Evanston, Illinois; seven nieces and nephews, Douglas Rohrman and wife Susan of Kenilworth, Illinois, Dr. Daryl E. Birdwell and wife Laura of Lawton, Oklahoma, Dr. Harry Birdwell and wife Cindy of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Murray Birdwell and wife Jeanne of Fletcher, Oklahoma, Marjorie McCrary of Houston, Texas, Benita Bray and husband Gary of Rush Springs, Oklahoma and Judy King and husband Milton of Lindale, Texas; she is also survived by numerous great nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church; 910 NW 38th Street; Lawton, Oklahoma 73505 or to Hospice of Southwest Oklahoma; PO Box 2074; Lawton, Oklahoma 73502.

Maud Monzingo

Age 100, Lawton - Services will be at 10:00 am Friday in the Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Rev. John Cramer, Retired United Methodist Pastor, Lawton officiating.

Mrs. Monzingo died Wednesday at her home.

Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Becker Funeral Home.

She was born August 21, 1906 in Lawton, Oklahoma Territory to Bathis Isaiah and Mamie (Carroll) Crouch. She married E.J. Monzingo on December 13, 1930 in Walters, Oklahoma. He died December 27, 1977. Mrs. Monzingo retired from Montgomery Wards. After her retirement she worked at The Vogue. She was also a volunteer at Southwestern Medical Center for 15 years, having served 6120 hours. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church and the Lawton Pioneer Club for 10 years. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include three children, Ardena Clark of Moore, Oklahoma; Ed Monzingo and his wife Mary of Eufala, Oklahoma and Shirley Miller and husband John Paul of Lawton, Oklahoma; 11 grandchildren, Cindy Wood and Rick, Brent Clark and Connie, Scott Clark and Diana, Michael Clark and Tina, Pat Clark, Julie Monzingo, Sidney Monzingo, Carter Monzingo, Janet Taylor and husband Randy, Pat Miller and T.C., Paul Miller; 14 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren and numerous relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Jimmy and Pete Crouch

James Carl Anderson

Age 58, Lawton - A memorial service will be held at a later date in Iowa.

Mr. Anderson died Tuesday, October 3, 2006 at his home following a brief illness.

He was born February 22, 1948 in Atlantic, Iowa to Richard A. and Treva Carson Anderson. He attended school in Atlantic and graduated in 1964. He worked as an orderly at Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic before entering the Army in 1968. During his tour of duty in the Army, he served as a Medic in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1971. He then began work at the Cass County Maintenance Garage where he remained for 34 years rising to the position of foreman. In April 2005 he retired and moved to Lawton. He married Beverly Reed on May 30, 1980 in Griswold, Iowa. He was a member of the Remote Control Airplane Club and the Astrology Club both in Atlantic. He enjoyed working on all types of guns and target shooting.

He is survived by his wife, of the home, a daughter, Ellen Anderson, a step-daughter, Julie Francis, whom he raised, and her husband Darren and their children, Alec Ernce and Megan Francis, all of Lawton, a step-son, Jeffery Reed and his wife Jessica and their daughter, Isabella, all of Alexandria, Virginia, three brothers and one sister, all of Iowa and one brother of Colorado and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Kenneth and Robert Anderson and sister, Norman Christensen.

MSG (Retired) Harley E. Hubbard

Age 89, Lawton - Funeral services will be 1:30 PM Wednesday in the Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Rev. Tom Willoughby, Associate Pastor, First Baptist Church, officiating.

Sergeant Hubbard died Saturday at his home.

Burial with full military honors will be in Post Cemetery, Fort Sill.

He was born on August 13, 1917 in Bryan County, Oklahoma to William Parks and Jossie Adeline (Wilson) Hubbard. He graduated from Capitol Hill High School in Oklahoma City in 1937. After graduation, he and his older brother, Charlie, worked for a time on the Grand Coolie Dam in Washington State. In July of 1939, he joined the United States Army, and after basic training was stationed at Fort Sill. He remained stationed there from 1939 until his retirement and honorable discharge in 1960. He did one tour of duty overseas during World War II and one tour of duty in Korea during the Korean War. He served in the U.S. Army Material Department and Army Aviation.

On June 7, 1941, he returned to Oklahoma City to marry his high school sweetheart, Ruby Thornhill, at the Kentucky Avenue Baptist Church. On June 7, 2006, they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. While making their home at Fort Sill, and later in Lawton, they raised three daughters, Elizabeth, Charlotte and Kathy. Before his retirement from the military, he enjoyed his own television and radio repair shop in his garage. After his retirement, he worked as an electrical mechanical engineer for Geotec Observatory in the Wichita Mountains from 1960-1970 and the Cameron University maintenance department from 1970-1972. From there, he worked at Cache Road Square in maintenance from 1972 until his retirement in 1976.

He enjoyed many pastimes in his life; among them were model airplanes, skeet, woodworking, ham radio, antique cars, square dancing, clocks and small engine repair. He enjoyed working on lawnmowers for neighbors and friends. Even after he lost his sight, he would do small engine repair by touch and memory. There was very little he couldn’t fix and he always carried a screwdriver in his overalls. He was the first in Lawton to have both solar power and a wind generator. Several articles have been published in the Lawton Constitution about his wind generator and the electricity it produced.

He always liked doing for others and was always ready with a hammer or screwdriver or just muscle. He was a member of the Lawton Amateur Radio Club from 1953-1969, a past member of the Country Cousins Square Dancing Club and is a member of the Lawton Antique Auto Club.

Survivors include his wife of the home; three daughters, Elizabeth Schrader and her husband, MAJ (Retired) Gregg Schrader, of Walkersville, West Virginia, Charlotte Thompson of Austin, Texas, and Kathy Tipton and her husband, Mike, of Lawton; five grandchildren, Gregg Schrader, Jr. and his wife, Tracy, of Manassas, Virginia, Keta Schrader Kowalewski and her husband, Mark, of Manassas, Virginia, Kerry Thompson of Norman, Chelle Tipton Knapp and her husband, Chuck, of Augusta, Kansas, and Kara Tipton of Lawton; ten great grandchildren, Cydney and Nathan Schrader, Corey and Kyle Kowalewski, Michael, Joshua, Daniel and Lily Knapp, and Kaleb and Chloe’ Tipton; and six nephews, Stephen, Michael, Rodney and Allen Hubbard and David and Larry Degel.

His parents, a stepmother, Verna Delzell Hubbard; a brother, Charlie Hubbard; a sister and brother-in-law, Florence Florene Hubbard Degel and Robert Degel; and two nephews, Ronnie and Kenneth Degel, preceded him in death.
