DENVER C. HARRINGTON

WOODWARD, Okla. ­ Denver C. Harrington, 66, a former Liberal resident, died Feb. 8, 2002, at the Woodward Regional Hospital in Woodward.

He was born Nov. 21, 1935, to

Denver P. and Lora (Campbell) Harrington in Liberal.

He attended the Liberal Public Schools.

He was a United States Air Force veteran and served during the Korean War. He served in the military from 1954 to 1958.

He married Mary F. Moore Aug. 27, 1963, in Ulysses. She survives.

He worked in the oil fields for several years for various companies until his retirement in 1990.

He was a member of the Woodward Moose Lodge No. 452, holding a Pilgrim Degree, the highest degree of the Moose Lodge. He was a life-member of the VFW in Liberal.

Survivors include his wife of the family home in Woodward; two sons, Arthur Lee Harrington and wife, Lori, Carthage, Mo., and Terry L. Harrington and wife, Dorene, Salina; five daughters, Karen Smith and husband, Steve, Mary Raylene Johnson and husband, Jack, and Tracy Chase and husband, Lewis Chase II, all of Woodward, and Carla Adams and husband, Terry, Dodge City, and Debbie Hansen and husband, Carl, of Colorado; 20 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First Christian Church in Woodward, with the Rev. Tim Mascarenas presiding.

Burial will follow at 3 p.m. at the Kismet Cemetery in Kismet.

Services are under the direction of the Zwanziger Funeral Home in Woodward.

ORE A. KRIEGER

ADAMS, Okla. -- Ore Arthur "Peewee" Krieger, 82, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, at his home in rural Adams.

He was born June 23, 1919, to Bert Edward and Lena Maude (Arters) Krieger in Hooker, Okla.

He married Loretta Gordon Sept. 25, 1951, in Hooker. She survives.

He grew up and attended school in Hooker.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a Pearl Harbor survivor.

He was a farmer all his life and worked for Beaver County, Okla., for eight years before retiring in 1981.

After retirement, he farmed for Leon and Joan Chuesburg until his illness in 2001. He often helped other farmers in the area.

His hobbies included dancing and fishing.

Other survivors include five daughters, LaQuetta Krieger and Sabrina Krieger, both of Liberal, Lori-Anne Baier and husband, Gerald, Deanna Applebee and husband, Raymond, and Lynn Overton and husband, Terry, all of Turpin; 16 grandchildren, including one granddaughter whom he helped raise, Heather Burns, Turpin; four great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Church of Christ in Hooker with Mr. John Maynard presiding.

Burial will be at Hooker Cemetery in Hooker.

Roberts Brothers Funeral Home in Hooker is in charge of arrangements.

JOHN L. MITCHELL

FORGAN, Okla. -- John Leslie Mitchell, 87, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, at Midland Memorial Hospital in Midland, Texas.

He was a former resident of Forgan and a retired farmer.

He had been a member of the Forgan Baptist Church for 58 years.

Survivors include his wife, Edna (Tiny) Mitchell, Midland; two sons, Leslie Mitchell, Oklahoma City, and Jim Mitchell, Beaver, Okla.; one daughter, Teresa Mitchell, Midland; two brothers, Lenos Mitchell, Duncan, Okla., and Cecil Mitchell, Forgan; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Forgan with Wayne Moore presiding.

Burial will be at Forgan Cemetery in Forgan.

Clark Funeral Service in Beaver is in charge of arrangements.

LUVENIA E. DEHARDE

HARDESTY, Okla. -- Luvenia Etter DeHarde, 95, Hardesty, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

She was born Dec. 5, 1906, to Joseph Gabe and Donia Viola (Fincher) Etter in Nocona, Texas.

She married Frank A. DeHarde June 12, 1936, in Nocona. He died July 15, 1970.

She and her family moved to a ranch between Chaning and Dalhart, Texas. In 1917 they moved to Hardesty, where she attended school at Range and Hartville schools. She attended high school in Goodwell, Okla.

She then attended Panhandle A&M College, where she received her two-year teaching certificate.

She taught one year at Range School near Hardesty.

Because her mother died at a young age, she and her sister, Mary, raised her brothers.

She attended the United Methodist Church and was a Sunday school teacher.

She and her husband lived in Hardesty, where she was the co-owner of DeHarde Brothers Garage.

Her hobbies included painting, crocheting, handwork and cooking, especially bread making and canning.

Survivors include three daughters, Glenda Eldridge, Emma Mae Eldridge and husband, Eldon, all of Hardesty, and Mary Winter and husband, Larry, Turpin, Okla.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, LaDonia DeHarde; three brothers, Melvin Etter, Cleon Etter and Frank Etter; and one sister, Mary Brown.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Hardesty United Methodist Church in Hardesty with the Rev. Jack Cornell and Judy Barnes presiding.

Burial will be at Hooker Cemetery in Hooker, Okla.

The family will greet friends from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Roberts Brothers Funeral Home in Hooker.

Memorials are suggested to either the United Methodist Church in Hardesty or Shriner's Children's Hospital, both in care of Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Box 745, Hooker, OK 73945.

IMOGENE HILL

HOOKER, Okla. -- Imogene Hill, 85, Hooker, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, at Wheatridge Park Care Center in Liberal.

She was born Dec. 20, 1916, to Dick and Lillie Mae (Seawright) Grounds in Hooker.

She married Irving Hill June 14, 1935, in Hooker. He survives.

She grew up in Hooker and attended Hooker schools.

She and her husband moved to a farm north of Hooker in 1939. The couple built their home there in the late 1970s.

She worked with her husband on the farm.

She played the piano, organ, guitar and accordion. She was a member of the "Music Makers," a group which entertained in Hooker and the surrounding area.

She attended the Nazarene Church in Hooker.

Her hobbies included cooking and painting.

Other survivors include two sons, Mark Irving Hill and wife, Elaine, and Bradley Eric Hill and wife, Donna, all of Hooker; three grandchildren, Garret Mark Hill and Eric Irving Hill, both of Hooker, and Katy Hill, Seattle, Wash.; one brother, D.J. Grounds and wife, Donna Jean, Puyallup, Wash.; and one sister, Marvella Massie and husband, Arthur, Tacoma, Wash.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Denver Grounds, Glenn Grounds and Clarence Grounds; and one sister, Beula Thrall.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Church of the Nazarene in Hooker with the Rev. Dr. David Hoffman presiding.

Burial will be at Hooker Cemetery in Hooker.

Memorials are suggested to either the Church of the Nazarene Family Life Center or the American Diabetes Association, both in care of Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Box 745, Hooker, OK 73945.

HOMER F. SHEPHERD

LAVERNE, Okla. -- Homer F. "Pete" Shepherd, 83, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, at the Woodward Hospital and Health Center in Woodward, Okla.

He was born April 18, 1918, to Mr. and Mrs. Walter F. Shepherd in Beaver County, Okla.

He married Barbara Nadine Campbell April 29, 1944. She preceded him in death.

He was a high school graduate, and was a farmer/rancher all his life.

Survivors include one son, Butch Shepherd, Follett, Texas; three daughters, Vi Thomas and Cindy Charbonneau, both of Woodward, and Becky Christensen, Thomas, Okla.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one special friend, Helen Laverentz; and numerous other relatives.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Fairview Methodist Church in Slapout, Okla., with the Brother Wes Peterman presiding.

Burial will be at Poplar Grove Cemetery in Harper County, Okla., under the direction of Clark-Wilkinson Funeral Service in Laverne.
